[14] And David said to Gad, On every side I am much straitened: let me fall now into the hands of the Lord, for his compassions are very many; and let me not fall into the hands of man.
[15] καὶ ἡμέραι θερισμοῦ πυρῶν, καὶ ἔδωκεν κύριος ἐν Ισραηλ θάνατον ἀπὸ πρωίθεν ἕως ὥρας ἀρίστου, καὶ ἤρξατο ἡ θραῦσις ἐν τῷ λαῷ, καὶ ἀπέθανεν ἐκ τοῦ λαοῦ ἀπὸ Δαν καὶ ἕως Βηρσαβεε ἑβδομήκοντα χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν.
[15] So David chose for himself the mortality: and they were the days of wheat-harvest; and the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel from morning till noon, and the plague began among the people; and there died of the people from Dan even to Bersabee seventy thousand men.
[16] καὶ ἐξέτεινεν ὁ ἄγγελος τοῦ θεοῦ τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ εἰς Ιερουσαλημ τοῦ διαφθεῖραι αὐτήν, καὶ παρεκλήθη κύριος ἐπὶ τῇ κακίᾳ καὶ εἶπεν τῷ ἀγγέλῳ τῷ διαφθείροντι ἐν τῷ λαῷ Πολὺ νῦν, ἄνες τὴν χεῖρά σου· καὶ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου ἦν παρὰ τῷ ἅλῳ Ορνα τοῦ Ιεβουσαίου.
[16] And the angel of the Lord stretched out his hand against Jerusalem to destroy it, and the Lord repented of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough now, withhold thine hand. And the angel of the Lord was by the threshing-floor of Orna the Jebusite.
[17] καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς κύριον ἐν τῷ ἰδεῖν αὐτὸν τὸν ἄγγελον τύπτοντα ἐν τῷ λαῷ καὶ εἶπεν Ἰδοὺ ἐγώ εἰμι ἠδίκησα καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ ποιμὴν ἐκακοποίησα, καὶ οὗτοι τὰ πρόβατα τί ἐποίησαν; γενέσθω δὴ ἡ χείρ σου ἐν ἐμοὶ καὶ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρός μου.
[17] And David spoke to the Lord when he saw the angel smiting the people, and he said, Behold, it is I that have done wrong, but these sheep what have they done? Let thy hand, I pray thee, be upon me, and upon my father’s house.
[18] καὶ ἦλθεν Γαδ πρὸς Δαυιδ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἀνάβηθι καὶ στῆσον τῷ κυρίῳ θυσιαστήριον ἐν τῷ ἅλωνι Ορνα τοῦ Ιεβουσαίου.
[18] And Gad came to David in that day, and said to him, Go up, and set up to the Lord and altar in the threshing-floor of Orna the Jebusite.
[19] καὶ ἀνέβη Δαυιδ κατὰ τὸν λόγον Γαδ, καθ’ ὃν τρόπον ἐνετείλατο αὐτῷ κύριος.
[19] And David went up according to the word of Gad, as the Lord commanded him.
[20] καὶ διέκυψεν Ορνα καὶ εἶδεν τὸν βασιλέα καὶ τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ παραπορευομένους ἐπάνω αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Ορνα καὶ προσεκύνησεν τῷ βασιλεῖ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν.
[20] And Orna looked out, and saw the king and his servants coming on before him: and Orna went forth, and did obeisance to the king with his face to the earth.
[21] καὶ εἶπεν Ορνα Τί ὅτι ἦλθεν ὁ κύριός μου ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς τὸν δοῦλον αὐτοῦ; καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ Κτήσασθαι παρὰ σοῦ τὸν ἅλωνα τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι θυσιαστήριον τῷ κυρίῳ, καὶ συσχεθῇ ἡ θραῦσις ἐπάνω τοῦ λαοῦ.
[21] And Orna said, Why has my lord the king come to his servant? and David said, To buy of thee the threshing-floor, in order to build an altar to the Lord that the plague may be restrained from off the people.
[22] καὶ εἶπεν Ορνα πρὸς Δαυιδ Λαβέτω καὶ ἀνενεγκέτω ὁ κύριός μου ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ κυρίῳ τὸ ἀγαθὸν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτοῦ· ἰδοὺ οἱ βόες εἰς ὁλοκαύτωμα, καὶ οἱ τροχοὶ καὶ τὰ σκεύη τῶν βοῶν εἰς ξύλα.
[22] And Orna said to David, Let my lord the king take and offer to the Lord that which is good in his eyes: behold, here are oxen for a whole-burnt-offering, and the wheels and furniture of the oxen for wood.
[23] τὰ πάντα ἔδωκεν Ορνα τῷ βασιλεῖ, καὶ εἶπεν Ορνα πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Κύριος ὁ θεός σου εὐλογήσαι σε.
[23] Orna gave all to the king: and Orna said to the king, The Lord thy God bless thee.
[24] καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς Ορνα Οὐχί, ὅτι ἀλλὰ κτώμενος κτήσομαι παρὰ σοῦ ἐν ἀλλάγματι καὶ οὐκ ἀνοίσω τῷ κυρίῳ θεῷ μου ὁλοκαύτωμα δωρεάν· καὶ ἐκτήσατο Δαυιδ τὸν ἅλωνα καὶ τοὺς βόας ἐν ἀργυρίῳ σίκλων πεντήκοντα.
[24] And the king said to Orna, Nay, but I will surely buy it of thee at a fair price, and I will not offer to the Lord my God a whole-burnt-offering for nothing. So David purchased the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
[25] καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν ἐκεῖ Δαυιδ θυσιαστήριον κυρίῳ καὶ ἀνήνεγκεν ὁλοκαυτώσεις καὶ εἰρηνικάς· καὶ προσέθηκεν Σαλωμων ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον ἐπ’ ἐσχάτῳ, ὅτι μικρὸν ἦν ἐν πρώτοις. καὶ ἐπήκουσεν κύριος τῇ γῇ, καὶ συνεσχέθη ἡ θραῦσις ἐπάνωθεν Ισραηλ.
[25] And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered up whole-burnt-offerings and peace-offerings: and Solomon made an addition to the altar afterwards, for it was little at first. And the Lord hearkened to the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
III Kings
CHAPTER 1
[1] Καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Δαυιδ πρεσβύτερος προβεβηκὼς ἡμέραις, καὶ περιέβαλλον αὐτὸν ἱματίοις, καὶ οὐκ ἐθερμαίνετο.
[1] And king David was old and advanced in days, and they covered him with clothes, and he was not warmed.
[2] καὶ εἶπον οἱ παῖδες αὐτοῦ Ζητησάτωσαν τῷ κυρίῳ ἡμῶν τῷ βασιλεῖ παρθένον νεάνιδα, καὶ παραστήσεται τῷ βασιλεῖ καὶ ἔσται αὐτὸν θάλπουσα καὶ κοιμηθήσεται μετ’ αὐτοῦ, καὶ θερμανθήσεται ὁ κύριος ἡμῶν ὁ βασιλεύς.
[2] And his servants said, Let them seek for the king a young virgin, and she shall wait on the king, and cherish him, and lie with him, and my lord the king shall be warmed.
[3] καὶ ἐζήτησαν νεάνιδα καλὴν ἐκ παντὸς ὁρίου Ισραηλ καὶ εὗρον τὴν Αβισακ τὴν Σωμανῖτιν καὶ ἤνεγκαν αὐτὴν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα.
[3] So they sought for a fair damsel out of all the coasts of Israel; and they found Abisag the Somanite, and they brought her to the king.
[4] καὶ ἡ νεᾶνις καλὴ ἕως σφόδρα· καὶ ἦν θάλπουσα τὸν βασιλέα καὶ ἐλειτούργει αὐτῷ, καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς οὐκ ἔγνω αὐτήν.
[4] And the damsel was extremely beautiful, and she cherished the king, and ministered to him, but the king knew her not.
[5] Καὶ Αδωνιας υἱὸς Αγγιθ ἐπῄρετο λέγων Ἐγὼ βασιλεύσω· καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑαυτῷ ἅρματα καὶ ἱππεῖς καὶ πεντήκοντα ἄνδρας παρατρέχειν ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ.
[5] And Adonias the son of Aggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king; and he prepared for himself chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him.
[6] καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκώλυσεν αὐτὸν ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ οὐδέποτε λέγων Διὰ τί σὺ ἐποίησας; καί γε αὐτὸς ὡραῖος τῇ ὄψει σφόδρα, καὶ αὐτὸν ἔτεκεν ὀπίσω Αβεσσαλωμ.
[6] And his father never at any time checked him, saying, Why hast thou done thus? and he was also very handsome in appearance, and his mother bore him after Abessalom.
[7] καὶ ἐγένοντο οἱ λόγοι αὐτοῦ μετὰ Ιωαβ τοῦ υἱοῦ Σαρουιας καὶ μετὰ Αβιαθαρ τοῦ ἱερέως, καὶ ἐβοήθουν ὀπίσω Αδωνιου·
[7] And he conferred with Joab the son of Saruia, and with Abiathar the priest, and they followed after Adonias.
[8] καὶ Σαδωκ ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ Βαναιας υἱὸς Ιωδαε καὶ Ναθαν ὁ προφήτης καὶ Σεμει καὶ Ρηι καὶ οἱ δυνατοὶ τοῦ Δαυιδ οὐκ ἦσαν ὀπίσω Αδωνιου.
[8] But Sadoc the priest, and Banaeas the son of Jodae, and Nathan the prophet, and Semei, and Resi, and the mighty men of David, did not follow Adonias.
[9] καὶ ἐθυσίασεν Αδωνιας πρόβατα καὶ μόσχους καὶ ἄρνας μετὰ λίθου τοῦ Ζωελεθ, ὃς ἦν ἐχόμενα τῆς πηγῆς Ρωγηλ, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πάντας τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντας τοὺς ἁδροὺς Ιουδα, παῖδας τοῦ βασιλέως·
[9] And Adonias sacrificed sheep and calves and lambs by the stone of Zoelethi, which was near Rogel: and he called all his brethren, and all the adult men of Juda, servants of the king.
[10] καὶ τὸν Ναθαν τὸν προφήτην καὶ Βαναιαν καὶ τοὺς δυνατοὺς καὶ τὸν Σαλωμων ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐκάλεσεν.
[10] But Nathan the prophet, and Banaeas, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he did not call.
[11] Καὶ εἶπεν Ναθαν πρὸς Βηρσαβεε μητέρα Σαλωμων λέγων Οὐκ ἤκουσας ὅτι ἐβασίλευσεν Αδωνιας υἱὸς Αγγιθ; καὶ ὁ κύριος ἡμῶν Δαυιδ οὐκ ἔγνω.
[11] And Nathan spoke to Bersabee the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonias the son of Aggith reigns, and our lord David knows it not?
[12] καὶ νῦν δεῦρο συμβουλεύσω σοι δὴ συμβουλίαν, καὶ ἐξελοῦ τὴν ψυχήν σου καὶ τὴν ψυχὴν τοῦ υἱοῦ σου Σαλωμων·
[12] And now come, let me, I pray, give thee counsel, and thou shalt rescue thy life, and the life of thy son Solomon.
[13] δεῦρο εἴσελθε πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Δαυιδ καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγουσα Οὐχὶ σύ, κύριέ μου βασιλεῦ, ὤμοσας τῇ δούλῃ σου λέγων ὅτι Σαλωμων ὁ υἱός σου βασιλεύσει μετ’ ἐμὲ καὶ αὐτὸς καθιεῖται ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου μου; καὶ τί ὅτι ἐβασίλευσεν Αδωνιας;
[13] Haste, and go in to king David, and thou shalt speak to him, saying, Hast not thou, my lord, O king, sworn to thine handmaid, saying, Thy son Solomon shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then does Adonias reign?
[14] καὶ ἰδοὺ ἔτι λαλούσης σου ἐκεῖ μετὰ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἐγὼ εἰσελεύσομαι ὀπίσω σου καὶ πληρώσω τοὺς λόγους σου. –
[14] And behold, while thou art still speaking there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and will confirm thy words.
[15] καὶ εἰσῆλθεν Βηρσαβεε πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα εἰς τὸ ταμίειον, καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς πρεσβύτης σφόδρα, καὶ Αβισακ ἡ Σωμανῖτις ἦν λειτουργοῦσα τῷ βασιλεῖ.
[15] So Bersabee went in to the king into the chamber: and the king was very old, and Abisag the Somanite was ministering to the king.
[16] καὶ ἔκυψεν Βηρσαβεε καὶ προσεκύνησεν τῷ βασιλεῖ. καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεύς Τί ἐστίν σοι;
[16] And Bersabee bowed, and did obeisance to the king; and the king said, What is thy request?
[17] ἡ δὲ εἶπεν Κύριέ μου βασιλεῦ, σὺ ὤμοσας ἐν κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ σου τῷ δούλῃ σου λέγων ὅτι Σαλωμων ὁ υἱός σου βασιλεύσει μετ’ ἐμὲ καὶ αὐτὸς καθήσεται ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου μου.
[17] And she said, My lord, thou didst swear by the Lord thy God to thine handmaid, saying, Thy son Solomon shall reign after me, and shall sit upon my throne.
[18] καὶ νῦν ἰδοὺ Αδωνιας ἐβασίλευσεν, καὶ σύ, κύριέ μου βασιλεῦ, οὐκ ἔγνως·
[18] And now, behold, Adonias reigns, and thou, my lord, O king, knowest it not.
[19] καὶ ἐθυσίασεν μόσχους καὶ ἄρνας καὶ πρόβατα εἰς πλῆθος καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ Αβιαθαρ τὸν ἱερέα καὶ Ιωαβ τὸν ἄρχοντα τῆς δυνάμεως, καὶ τὸν Σαλωμων τὸν δοῦλόν σου οὐκ ἐκάλεσεν.
[19] And he has sacrificed calves and lambs and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king’s sons, and Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander-in-chief of the host; but Solomon thy servant he has not called.
[20] καὶ σύ, κύριέ μου βασιλεῦ, οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ παντὸς Ισραηλ πρὸς σὲ ἀπαγγεῖλαι αὐτοῖς τίς καθήσεται ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου τοῦ κυρίου μου τοῦ βασιλέως μετ’ αὐτόν.
[20] And thou, my lord, O king, — the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, to tell them who shall sit upon the throne of my lord the king after him.
[21] καὶ ἔσται ὡς ἂν κοιμηθῇ ὁ κύριός μου ὁ βασιλεὺς μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔσομαι ἐγὼ καὶ ὁ υἱός μου Σαλωμων ἁμαρτωλοί. –
[21] And it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and Solomon my son shall be offenders.
[22] καὶ ἰδοὺ ἔτι αὐτῆς λαλούσης μετὰ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ Ναθαν ὁ προφήτης ἦλθεν.
[22] And behold, while she was yet talking with the king, Nathan the prophet came. And it was reported to the king,
[23] καὶ ἀνηγγέλη τῷ βασιλεῖ Ἰδοὺ Ναθαν ὁ προφήτης· καὶ εἰσῆλθεν κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ προσεκύνησεν τῷ βασιλεῖ κατὰ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν.
[23] Behold, Nathan the prophet is here: and he came in to the king’s presence, and did obeisance to the king with his face to the ground.
[24] καὶ εἶπεν Ναθαν Κύριέ μου βασιλεῦ, σὺ εἶπας Αδωνιας βασιλεύσει ὀπίσω μου καὶ αὐτὸς καθήσεται ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου μου·
[24] And Nathan said, My lord, O king, didst thou say, Adonias shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?
[25] ὅτι κατέβη σήμερον καὶ ἐθυσίασεν μόσχους καὶ ἄρνας καὶ πρόβατα εἰς πλῆθος καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας τῆς δυνάμεως καὶ Αβιαθαρ τὸν ἱερέα, καὶ ἰδού εἰσιν ἐσθίοντες καὶ πίνοντες ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπαν Ζήτω ὁ βασιλεὺς Αδωνιας.
[25] For he has gone down to-day, and has sacrificed calves and lambs and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king’s sons, and the chiefs of the army, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and they said, Long live king Adonias.
[26] καὶ ἐμὲ αὐτὸν τὸν δοῦλόν σου καὶ Σαδωκ τὸν ἱερέα καὶ Βαναιαν υἱὸν Ιωδαε καὶ Σαλωμων τὸν δοῦλόν σου οὐκ ἐκάλεσεν.
[26] But he has not invited me thy servant, and Sadoc the priest, and Banaeas the son of Jodae, and Solomon thy servant.
[27] εἰ διὰ τοῦ κυρίου μου τοῦ βασιλέως γέγονεν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο καὶ οὐκ ἐγνώρισας τῷ δούλῳ σου τίς καθήσεται ἐπὶ τὸν θρόνον τοῦ κυρίου μου τοῦ βασιλέως μετ’ αὐτόν; –
[27] Has this matter happened by the authority of my lord the king, and hast thou not made known to thy servant who shall sit upon the throne of my lord the king after him?
[28] καὶ ἀπεκρίθη Δαυιδ καὶ εἶπεν Καλέσατέ μοι τὴν Βηρσαβεε· καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ἐνώπιον τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἔστη ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ.
[28] And king David answered and said, Call me Bersabee: and she came in before the king, and stood before him.
[29] καὶ ὤμοσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ εἶπεν Ζῇ κύριος, ὃς ἐλυτρώσατο τὴν ψυχήν μου ἐκ πάσης θλίψεως,
[29] And the king swore, and said, As the Lord lives who redeemed my soul out of all affliction,
[30] ὅτι καθὼς ὤμοσά σοι ἐν κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ Ισραηλ λέγων ὅτι Σαλωμων ὁ υἱός σου βασιλεύσει μετ’ ἐμὲ καὶ αὐτὸς καθήσεται ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου μου ἀντ ἐμοῦ, ὅτι οὕτως ποιήσω τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ.
