[31] Cast away from yourselves all your ungodliness wherein ye have sinned against me; and make to yourselves a new heart and a new spirit: for why should ye die, O house of Israel?
[32] διότι οὐ θέλω τὸν θάνατον τοῦ ἀποθνῄσκοντος, λέγει κύριος.
[32] For I desire not the death of him that dies, saith the Lord.
CHAPTER 19
[1] Καὶ σὺ λαβὲ θρῆνον ἐπὶ τὸν ἄρχοντα τοῦ Ισραηλ
[1] Moreover do thou take up a lamentation for the prince of Israel,
[2] καὶ ἐρεῖς Τί ἡ μήτηρ σου; σκύμνος· ἐν μέσῳ λεόντων ἐγενήθη, ἐν μέσῳ λεόντων ἐπλήθυνεν σκύμνους αὐτῆς.
[2] and say, Why is thy mother become a whelp in the midst of lions? in the midst of lions she has multiplied her whelps.
[3] καὶ ἀπεπήδησεν εἷς τῶν σκύμνων αὐτῆς, λέων ἐγένετο καὶ ἔμαθεν τοῦ ἁρπάζειν ἁρπάγματα, ἀνθρώπους ἔφαγεν.
[3] And one of her whelps sprang forth; he became a lion, and learned to take prey, he devoured men.
[4] καὶ ἤκουσαν κατ’ αὐτοῦ ἔθνη, ἐν τῇ διαφθορᾷ αὐτῶν συνελήμφθη, καὶ ἤγαγον αὐτὸν ἐν κημῷ εἰς γῆν Αἰγύπτου.
[4] And the nations heard a report of him; he was caught in their pit, and they brought him into the land of Egypt in chains.
[5] καὶ εἶδεν ὅτι ἀπῶσται ἀπ’ αὐτῆς καὶ ἀπώλετο ἡ ὑπόστασις αὐτῆς, καὶ ἔλαβεν ἄλλον ἐκ τῶν σκύμνων αὐτῆς, λέοντα ἔταξεν αὐτόν.
[5] And she saw that he was driven away from her, and her hope of him perished, and she took another of her whelps; she made him a lion.
[6] καὶ ἀνεστρέφετο ἐν μέσῳ λεόντων, λέων ἐγένετο καὶ ἔμαθεν ἁρπάζειν ἁρπάγματα, ἀνθρώπους ἔφαγεν·
[6] And he went up and down in the midst of lions, he became a lion, and learned to take prey, he devoured men.
[7] καὶ ἐνέμετο τῷ θράσει αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰς πόλεις αὐτῶν ἐξηρήμωσεν καὶ ἠφάνισεν γῆν καὶ τὸ πλήρωμα αὐτῆς ἀπὸ φωνῆς ὠρύματος αὐτοῦ.
[7] And he prowled in his boldness and laid waste their cities, and made the land desolate, and the fullness of it, by the voice of his roaring.
[8] καὶ ἔδωκαν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ἔθνη ἐκ χωρῶν κυκλόθεν καὶ ἐξεπέτασαν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν δίκτυα αὐτῶν, ἐν διαφθορᾷ αὐτῶν συνελήμφθη·
[8] Then the nations set upon him from the countries round about, and they spread their nets upon him: he was taken in their pit.
[9] καὶ ἔθεντο αὐτὸν ἐν κημῷ καὶ ἐν γαλεάγρᾳ, ἦλθεν πρὸς βασιλέα Βαβυλῶνος, καὶ εἰσήγαγεν αὐτὸν εἰς φυλακήν, ὅπως μὴ ἀκουσθῇ ἡ φωνὴ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη τοῦ Ισραηλ. –
[9] And they put him in chains and in a cage, and he came to the king of Babylon; and he cast him into prison, that his voice should not be heard on the mountains of Israel.
[10] ἡ μήτηρ σου ὡς ἄμπελος, ὡς ἄνθος ἐν ῥόᾳ ἐν ὕδατι πεφυτευμένη, ὁ καρπὸς αὐτῆς καὶ ὁ βλαστὸς αὐτῆς ἐγένετο ἐξ ὕδατος πολλοῦ.
[10] Thy mother was as a vine and as a blossom on a pomegranate tree, planted by water: her fruit and her shoot abounded by reason of much water.
[11] καὶ ἐγένετο αὐτῇ ῥάβδος ἰσχύος ἐπὶ φυλὴν ἡγουμένων, καὶ ὑψώθη τῷ μεγέθει αὐτῆς ἐν μέσῳ στελεχῶν καὶ εἶδεν τὸ μέγεθος αὐτῆς ἐν πλήθει κλημάτων αὐτῆς.
[11] And she became a rod for a tribe of princes, and was elevated in her bulk in the midst of other trees, and she saw her bulk in the multitude of her branches.
[12] καὶ κατεκλάσθη ἐν θυμῷ, ἐπὶ γῆν ἐρρίφη, καὶ ἄνεμος ὁ καύσων ἐξήρανεν τὰ ἐκλεκτὰ αὐτῆς· ἐξεδικήθη καὶ ἐξηράνθη ἡ ῥάβδος ἰσχύος αὐτῆς, πῦρ ἀνήλωσεν αὐτήν.
[12] But she was broken down in wrath, she was cast upon the ground, and the east wind dried up her choice branches: vengeance came upon them, and the rod of her strength was withered; fire consumed it.
[13] καὶ νῦν πεφύτευκαν αὐτὴν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ἐν γῇ ἀνύδρῳ·
[13] And now they have planted her in the wilderness, in a dry land.
[14] καὶ ἐξῆλθεν πῦρ ἐκ ῥάβδου ἐκλεκτῶν αὐτῆς καὶ κατέφαγεν αὐτήν, καὶ οὐκ ἦν ἐν αὐτῇ ῥάβδος ἰσχύος. φυλὴ εἰς παραβολὴν θρήνου ἐστὶν καὶ ἔσται εἰς θρῆνον.
[14] And fire is gone out of a rod of her choice boughs, and has devoured her; and there was no rod of strength in her. Her race is become a parable of lamentation, and it shall be for a lamentation.
CHAPTER 20
[1] Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἔτει τῷ ἑβδόμῳ ἐν τῷ πέμπτῳ μηνὶ δεκάτῃ τοῦ μηνὸς ἦλθον ἄνδρες ἐκ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων οἴκου Ισραηλ ἐπερωτῆσαι τὸν κύριον καὶ ἐκάθισαν πρὸ προσώπου μου.
[1] And it came to pass in the seventh year, on the fifteenth day of the month, there came men of the elders of the house of Israel to enquire of the Lord, and they sat before me.
[2] καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων
[2] And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
[3] Υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, λάλησον πρὸς τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους τοῦ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτούς Τάδε λέγει κύριος Εἰ ἐπερωτῆσαί με ὑμεῖς ἔρχεσθε; ζῶ ἐγὼ εἰ ἀποκριθήσομαι ὑμῖν, λέγει κύριος;
[3] Son of man, speak to the elders of the house of Israel, and thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord; Are ye come to enquire of me? As I live, I will not be enquired of by you, saith the Lord.
[4] εἰ ἐκδικήσω αὐτοὺς ἐκδικήσει; υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, τὰς ἀνομίας τῶν πατέρων αὐτῶν διαμάρτυραι αὐτοῖς
[4] Shall I utterly take vengeance on them, son of man? testify to them of the iniquities of their fathers:
[5] καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτούς Τάδε λέγει κύριος Ἀφ ἧς ἡμέρας ᾑρέτισα τὸν οἶκον Ισραηλ καὶ ἐγνωρίσθην τῷ σπέρματι οἴκου Ιακωβ καὶ ἐγνώσθην αὐτοῖς ἐν γῇ Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἀντελαβόμην τῇ χειρί μου αὐτῶν λέγων Ἐγὼ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν,
[5] and thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord;
From the day that I chose the house of Israel, and became known to the seed of the house of Jacob, and was known to them in the land of Egypt, and helped them with my hand, saying, I am the Lord your God;
[6] ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἀντελαβόμην τῇ χειρί μου αὐτῶν τοῦ ἐξαγαγεῖν αὐτοὺς ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου εἰς τὴν γῆν, ἣν ἡτοίμασα αὐτοῖς, γῆν ῥέουσαν γάλα καὶ μέλι, κηρίον ἐστὶν παρὰ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν.
[6] in that day I helped them with my hand, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into the land which I prepared for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, it is abundant beyond every land.
[7] καὶ εἶπα πρὸς αὐτούς Ἕκαστος τὰ βδελύγματα τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν αὐτοῦ ἀπορριψάτω, καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἐπιτηδεύμασιν Αἰγύπτου μὴ μιαίνεσθε· ἐγὼ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν.
[7] And I said to them, Let every one cast away the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the devices of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.
[8] καὶ ἀπέστησαν ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησαν εἰσακοῦσαί μου, τὰ βδελύγματα τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν αὐτῶν οὐκ ἀπέρριψαν καὶ τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα Αἰγύπτου οὐκ ἐγκατέλιπον. καὶ εἶπα τοῦ ἐκχέαι τὸν θυμόν μου ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς τοῦ συντελέσαι τὴν ὀργήν μου ἐν αὐτοῖς ἐν μέσῳ γῆς Αἰγύπτου.
[8] But they revolted from me, and would not hearken to me: they cast not away the abominations of their eyes, and forsook not the devices of Egypt: then I said that I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my wrath upon them in the midst of Egypt.
[9] καὶ ἐποίησα ὅπως τὸ ὄνομά μου τὸ παράπαν μὴ βεβηλωθῇ ἐνώπιον τῶν ἐθνῶν, ὧν αὐτοί εἰσιν ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν, ἐν οἷς ἐγνώσθην πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν τοῦ ἐξαγαγεῖν αὐτοὺς ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου.
[9] But I wrought so that my name should not be at all profaned in the sight of the Gentiles, in the midst of whom they are, among whom I was made known to them in their sight, to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
[10] καὶ ἐξήγαγον αὐτοὺς ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἤγαγον αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν ἔρημον
[10] And I brought them into the wilderness.
[11] καὶ ἔδωκα αὐτοῖς τὰ προστάγματά μου καὶ τὰ δικαιώματά μου ἐγνώρισα αὐτοῖς, ὅσα ποιήσει αὐτὰ ἄνθρωπος καὶ ζήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς.
[11] And I gave them my commandments, and made known to them mine ordinances, all which if a man shall do, he shall even live in them.
[12] καὶ τὰ σάββατά μου ἔδωκα αὐτοῖς τοῦ εἶναι εἰς σημεῖον ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον αὐτῶν τοῦ γνῶναι αὐτοὺς διότι ἐγὼ κύριος ὁ ἁγιάζων αὐτούς.
[12] And I gave them my sabbaths, that they should be for a sign between me and them, that they should know that I am the Lord that sanctify them.
[13] καὶ εἶπα πρὸς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Ισραηλ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ Ἐν τοῖς προστάγμασίν μου πορεύεσθε. καὶ οὐκ ἐπορεύθησαν καὶ τὰ δικαιώματά μου ἀπώσαντο, ἃ ποιήσει αὐτὰ ἄνθρωπος καὶ ζήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς, καὶ τὰ σάββατά μου ἐβεβήλωσαν σφόδρα. καὶ εἶπα τοῦ ἐκχέαι τὸν θυμόν μου ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τοῦ ἐξαναλῶσαι αὐτούς.
[13] And I said to the house of Israel in the wilderness, Walk ye in my commandments: but they walked not in them, and they rejected mine ordinances, which if a man shall do, he shall even live in them; and they grievously profaned my sabbaths: and I said that I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.
[14] καὶ ἐποίησα ὅπως τὸ ὄνομά μου τὸ παράπαν μὴ βεβηλωθῇ ἐνώπιον τῶν ἐθνῶν, ὧν ἐξήγαγον αὐτοὺς κατ’ ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῶν.
[14] But I wrought so that my name should not be at all profaned before the Gentiles, before whose eyes I brought them out.
[15] καὶ ἐγὼ ἐξῆρα τὴν χεῖρά μου ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τὸ παράπαν τοῦ μὴ εἰσαγαγεῖν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν γῆν, ἣν ἔδωκα αὐτοῖς, γῆν ῥέουσαν γάλα καὶ μέλι, κηρίον ἐστὶν παρὰ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν,
[15] But I lifted up my hand against them in the wilderness once for all, that I would not bring them into the land which I gave them, a land flowing with milk and honey, it is sweeter than all lands:
[16] ἀνθ’ ὧν τὰ δικαιώματά μου ἀπώσαντο καὶ ἐν τοῖς προστάγμασίν μου οὐκ ἐπορεύθησαν ἐν αὐτοῖς καὶ τὰ σάββατά μου ἐβεβήλουν καὶ ὀπίσω τῶν ἐνθυμημάτων τῶν καρδιῶν αὐτῶν ἐπορεύοντο.
[16] because they rejected mine ordinances, and walked not in my commandments, but profaned my sabbaths, and went after the imaginations of their hearts.
[17] καὶ ἐφείσατο ὁ ὀφθαλμός μου ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς τοῦ ἐξαλεῖψαι αὐτοὺς καὶ οὐκ ἐποίησα αὐτοὺς εἰς συντέλειαν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ.
[17] Yet mine eyes spared them, so as not to destroy them utterly, and I did not make an end of them in the wilderness.
[18] καὶ εἶπα πρὸς τὰ τέκνα αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ Ἐν τοῖς νομίμοις τῶν πατέρων ὑμῶν μὴ πορεύεσθε καὶ τὰ δικαιώματα αὐτῶν μὴ φυλάσσεσθε καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἐπιτηδεύμασιν αὐτῶν μὴ συναναμίσγεσθε καὶ μὴ μιαίνεσθε·
[18] And I said to their children in the wilderness, Walk not ye in the customs of your fathers, and keep not their ordinances, and have no fellowship with their practices, nor defile yourselves with them.
[19] ἐγὼ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν, ἐν τοῖς προστάγμασίν μου πορεύεσθε καὶ τὰ δικαιώματά μου φυλάσσεσθε καὶ ποιεῖτε αὐτὰ
[19] I am the Lord your God; walk in my commandments, and keep mine ordinances, and do them;
[20] καὶ τὰ σάββατά μου ἁγιάζετε, καὶ ἔστω εἰς σημεῖον ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ ὑμῶν τοῦ γινώσκειν διότι ἐγὼ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν.
[20] and hallow my sabbaths, and let them be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God.
[21] καὶ παρεπίκρανάν με καὶ τὰ τέκνα αὐτῶν, ἐν τοῖς προστάγμασίν μου οὐκ ἐπορεύθησαν, καὶ τὰ δικαιώματά μου οὐκ ἐφυλάξαντο τοῦ ποιεῖν αὐτά, ἃ ποιήσει ἄνθρωπος καὶ ζήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς, καὶ τὰ σάββατά μου ἐβεβήλουν. καὶ εἶπα τοῦ ἐκχέαι τὸν θυμόν μου ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τοῦ συντελέσαι τὴν ὀργήν μου ἐπ’ αὐτούς·
[21] But they provoked me, and their children walked not in my commandments, and they took no heed to mine ordinances to do them, which if a man shall do, he shall even live in them, and they profaned my sabbaths: then I said that I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to accomplish mine anger upon them.
[22] καὶ ἐποίησα ὅπως τὸ ὄνομά μου τὸ παράπαν μὴ βεβηλωθῇ ἐνώπιον τῶν ἐθνῶν, ὧν ἐξήγαγον αὐτοὺς κατ’ ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῶν.
[22] But I wrought so that my name might not be at all profaned before the Gentiles; and I brought them out in their sight.
[23] καὶ ἐξῆρα τὴν χεῖρά μου ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τοῦ διασκορπίσαι αὐτοὺς ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν καὶ διασπεῖραι αὐτοὺς ἐν ταῖς χώραις,
[23] I lifted up my hand against them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the Gentiles, and disperse them in the countries;
[24] ἀνθ’ ὧν τὰ δικαιώματά μου οὐκ ἐποίησαν καὶ τὰ προστάγματά μου ἀπώσαντο καὶ τὰ σάββατά μου ἐβεβήλουν, καὶ ὀπίσω τῶν ἐνθυμημάτων τῶν πατέρων αὐτῶν ἦσαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτῶν.
[24] because they kept not mine ordinances, and rejected my commandments, and profaned my sabbaths, and their eyes went after the imaginations of their fathers.
[25] καὶ ἐγὼ ἔδωκα αὐτοῖς προστάγματα οὐ καλὰ καὶ δικαιώματα ἐν οἷς οὐ ζήσονται ἐν αὐτοῖς.
[25] So I gave them commandments that were not good, and ordinances in which they should not live.
[26] καὶ μιανῶ αὐτοὺς ἐν τοῖς δόμασιν αὐτῶν ἐν τῷ διαπορεύεσθαί με πᾶν διανοῖγον μήτραν ὅπως ἀφανίσω αὐτούς.
[26] And I will defile them by their own decrees, when I pass through upon every one that opens the womb, that I may destroy them.
[27] Διὰ τοῦτο λάλησον πρὸς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Ισραηλ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτούς Τάδε λέγει κύριος Ἕως τούτου παρώργισάν με οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν ἐν τοῖς παραπτώμασιν αὐτῶν, ἐν οἷς παρέπεσον εἰς ἐμέ.
[27] Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord: Hitherto have your fathers provoke me in their trespasses in which they transgressed against me.
