[12] καὶ νῦν ὀμόσατέ μοι κύριον τὸν θεόν, ὅτι ποιῶ ὑμῖν ἔλεος καὶ ποιήσετε καὶ ὑμεῖς ἔλεος ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρός μου
[12] And now swear to me by the Lord God; since I deal mercifully with you, so do ye also deal mercifully with the house of my father:
[13] καὶ ζωγρήσετε τὸν οἶκον τοῦ πατρός μου καὶ τὴν μητέρα μου καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφούς μου καὶ πάντα τὸν οἶκόν μου καὶ πάντα, ὅσα ἐστὶν αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἐξελεῖσθε τὴν ψυχήν μου ἐκ θανάτου.
[13] and save alive the house of my father, my mother, and my brethren, and all my house, and all that they have, and ye shall rescue my soul from death.
[14] καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῇ οἱ ἄνδρες Ἡ ψυχὴ ἡμῶν ἀνθ’ ὑμῶν εἰς θάνατον. καὶ αὐτὴ εἶπεν Ὡς ἂν παραδῷ κύριος ὑμῖν τὴν πόλιν, ποιήσετε εἰς ἐμὲ ἔλεος καὶ ἀλήθειαν.
[14] And the men said to her, Our life for yours even to death: and she said, When the Lord shall have delivered the city to you, ye shall deal mercifully and truly with me.
[15] καὶ κατεχάλασεν αὐτοὺς διὰ τῆς θυρίδος
[15] And she let them down by the window;
[16] καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Εἰς τὴν ὀρεινὴν ἀπέλθετε, μὴ συναντήσωσιν ὑμῖν οἱ καταδιώκοντες, καὶ κρυβήσεσθε ἐκεῖ τρεῖς ἡμέρας, ἕως ἂν ἀποστρέψωσιν οἱ καταδιώκοντες ὀπίσω ὑμῶν, καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἀπελεύσεσθε εἰς τὴν ὁδὸν ὑμῶν.
[16] and she said to them, Depart into the hill-country, lest the pursuers meet you, and ye shall be hidden there three days until your pursuers return from after you, and afterwards ye shall depart on your way.
[17] καὶ εἶπαν οἱ ἄνδρες πρὸς αὐτήν Ἀθῷοί ἐσμεν τῷ ὅρκῳ σου τούτῳ·
[17] And the men said to her, We are clear of this thy oath.
[18] ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς εἰσπορευόμεθα εἰς μέρος τῆς πόλεως, καὶ θήσεις τὸ σημεῖον, τὸ σπαρτίον τὸ κόκκινον τοῦτο ἐκδήσεις εἰς τὴν θυρίδα, δι’ ἧς κατεβίβασας ἡμᾶς δι’ αὐτῆς, τὸν δὲ πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα σου καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου καὶ πάντα τὸν οἶκον τοῦ πατρός σου συνάξεις πρὸς σεαυτὴν εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν σου.
[18] Behold, we shall enter into a part of the city, and thou shalt set a sign; thou shalt bind this scarlet cord in the window, by which thou hast let us down, and thou shalt bring in to thyself, into thy house, thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all the family of thy father.
[19] καὶ ἔσται πᾶς, ὃς ἂν ἐξέλθῃ τὴν θύραν τῆς οἰκίας σου ἔξω, ἔνοχος ἑαυτῷ ἔσται, ἡμεῖς δὲ ἀθῷοι τῷ ὅρκῳ σου τούτῳ· καὶ ὅσοι ἐὰν γένωνται μετὰ σοῦ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ σου, ἡμεῖς ἔνοχοι ἐσόμεθα.
[19] And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall go outside the door of thy house, his guilt shall be upon him, and we shall be quit of this thine oath; and we will be responsible for all that shall be found with thee in thy house.
[20] ἐὰν δέ τις ἡμᾶς ἀδικήσῃ ἢ καὶ ἀποκαλύψῃ τοὺς λόγους ἡμῶν τούτους, ἐσόμεθα ἀθῷοι τῷ ὅρκῳ σου τούτῳ.
[20] But if any one should injure us, or betray these our matters, we shall be quit of this thine oath.
[21] καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμα ὑμῶν οὕτως ἔστω· καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτούς.
[21] And she said to them, Let it be according to your word; and she sent them out, and they departed.
[22] καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν καὶ ἤλθοσαν εἰς τὴν ὀρεινὴν καὶ κατέμειναν ἐκεῖ τρεῖς ἡμέρας· καὶ ἐξεζήτησαν οἱ καταδιώκοντες πάσας τὰς ὁδοὺς καὶ οὐχ εὕροσαν.
[22] And they came to the hill-country, and remained there three days; and the pursuers searched all the roads, and found them not.
[23] καὶ ὑπέστρεψαν οἱ δύο νεανίσκοι καὶ κατέβησαν ἐκ τοῦ ὄρους καὶ διέβησαν πρὸς Ἰησοῦν υἱὸν Ναυη καὶ διηγήσαντο αὐτῷ πάντα τὰ συμβεβηκότα αὐτοῖς.
[23] And the two young men returned, and came down out of the mountain; and they went over to Joshua the son of Naue, and told him all things that had happened to them.
[24] καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς Ἰησοῦν ὅτι Παρέδωκεν κύριος πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ἐν χειρὶ ἡμῶν, καὶ κατέπτηκεν πᾶς ὁ κατοικῶν τὴν γῆν ἐκείνην ἀφ’ ἡμῶν.
[24] And they said to Joshua, The Lord has delivered all the land into our power, and all the inhabitants of that land tremble because of us.
CHAPTER 3
[1] Καὶ ὤρθρισεν Ἰησοῦς τὸ πρωί, καὶ ἀπῆραν ἐκ Σαττιν καὶ ἤλθοσαν ἕως τοῦ Ιορδάνου καὶ κατέλυσαν ἐκεῖ πρὸ τοῦ διαβῆναι.
[1] And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and departed from Sattin; and they came as far as Jordan, and lodged there before they crossed over.
[2] καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας διῆλθον οἱ γραμματεῖς διὰ τῆς παρεμβολῆς
[2] And it came to pass after three days, that the scribes went through the camp;
[3] καὶ ἐνετείλαντο τῷ λαῷ λέγοντες Ὅταν ἴδητε τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ τοὺς ἱερεῖς ἡμῶν καὶ τοὺς Λευίτας αἴροντας αὐτήν, ἀπαρεῖτε ἀπὸ τῶν τόπων ὑμῶν καὶ πορεύεσθε ὀπίσω αὐτῆς·
[3] and they charged the people, saying, When ye shall see the ark of the covenant of the Lord our God, and our priests and the Levites bearing it, ye shall depart from your places, and ye shall go after it.
[4] ἀλλὰ μακρὰν ἔστω ἀνὰ μέσον ὑμῶν καὶ ἐκείνης ὅσον δισχιλίους πήχεις· στήσεσθε, μὴ προσεγγίσητε αὐτῇ, ἵν ἐπίστησθε τὴν ὁδόν, ἣν πορεύεσθε αὐτήν· οὐ γὰρ πεπόρευσθε τὴν ὁδὸν ἀπ’ ἐχθὲς καὶ τρίτης ἡμέρας.
[4] But let there be a distance between you and it; ye shall stand as much as two thousand cubits from it. Do not draw nigh to it, that ye may know the way which ye are to go; for ye have not gone the way before.
[5] καὶ εἶπεν Ἰησοῦς τῷ λαῷ Ἁγνίσασθε εἰς αὔριον, ὅτι αὔριον ποιήσει ἐν ὑμῖν κύριος θαυμαστά.
[5] And Joshua said to the people, Sanctify yourselves against to-morrow, for to-morrow the Lord will do wonders among you.
[6] καὶ εἶπεν Ἰησοῦς τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν Ἄρατε τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης κυρίου καὶ προπορεύεσθε τοῦ λαοῦ. καὶ ἦραν οἱ ἱερεῖς τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης κυρίου καὶ ἐπορεύοντο ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ λαοῦ.
[6] And Joshua said to the priests, Take up the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and go before the people: and the priests took up the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and went before the people.
[7] καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Ἰησοῦν Ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ ἄρχομαι ὑψῶσαί σε κατενώπιον πάντων υἱῶν Ισραηλ, ἵνα γνῶσιν, καθότι ἤμην μετὰ Μωυσῆ, οὕτως ἔσομαι καὶ μετὰ σοῦ.
[7] And the Lord said to Joshua, This day do I begin to exalt thee before all the children of Israel, that they may know that as I was with Moses, so will I also be with thee.
[8] καὶ νῦν ἔντειλαι τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν τοῖς αἴρουσιν τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης λέγων Ὡς ἂν εἰσέλθητε ἐπὶ μέρους τοῦ ὕδατος τοῦ Ιορδάνου, καὶ ἐν τῷ Ιορδάνῃ στήσεσθε.
[8] And now charge the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, As soon as ye shall enter on a part of the water of Jordan, then ye shall stand in Jordan.
[9] καὶ εἶπεν Ἰησοῦς τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισραηλ Προσαγάγετε ὧδε καὶ ἀκούσατε τὸ ῥῆμα κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν.
[9] And Joshua said to the children of Israel, Come hither, and hearken to the word of the Lord our God.
[10] ἐν τούτῳ γνώσεσθε ὅτι θεὸς ζῶν ἐν ὑμῖν καὶ ὀλεθρεύων ὀλεθρεύσει ἀπὸ προσώπου ἡμῶν τὸν Χαναναῖον καὶ τὸν Χετταῖον καὶ τὸν Φερεζαῖον καὶ τὸν Ευαῖον καὶ τὸν Αμορραῖον καὶ τὸν Γεργεσαῖον καὶ τὸν Ιεβουσαῖον·
[10] Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and will utterly destroy from before our face the Chananite, and the Chettite and Pherezite, and the Evite, and the Amorite, and the Gergesite, and the Jebusite.
[11] ἰδοὺ ἡ κιβωτὸς διαθήκης κυρίου πάσης τῆς γῆς διαβαίνει τὸν Ιορδάνην.
[11] Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passes over Jordan.
[12] προχειρίσασθε ὑμῖν δώδεκα ἄνδρας ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ, ἕνα ἀφ’ ἑκάστης φυλῆς.
[12] Choose for yourselves twelve men of the sons of Israel, one of each tribe.
[13] καὶ ἔσται ὡς ἂν καταπαύσωσιν οἱ πόδες τῶν ἱερέων τῶν αἰρόντων τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης κυρίου πάσης τῆς γῆς ἐν τῷ ὕδατι τοῦ Ιορδάνου, τὸ ὕδωρ τοῦ Ιορδάνου ἐκλείψει, τὸ δὲ ὕδωρ τὸ καταβαῖνον στήσεται.
[13] And it shall come to pass, when the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord of the whole earth rest in the water of Jordan, the water of Jordan below shall fail, and the water coming down from above shall stop.
[14] καὶ ἀπῆρεν ὁ λαὸς ἐκ τῶν σκηνωμάτων αὐτῶν διαβῆναι τὸν Ιορδάνην, οἱ δὲ ἱερεῖς ἤροσαν τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης κυρίου πρότεροι τοῦ λαοῦ.
[14] And the people removed from their tents to cross over Jordan, and the priests bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord before the people.
[15] ὡς δὲ εἰσεπορεύοντο οἱ ἱερεῖς οἱ αἴροντες τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης ἐπὶ τὸν Ιορδάνην καὶ οἱ πόδες τῶν ἱερέων τῶν αἰρόντων τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης κυρίου ἐβάφησαν εἰς μέρος τοῦ ὕδατος τοῦ Ιορδάνου – ὁ δὲ Ιορδάνης ἐπλήρου καθ’ ὅλην τὴν κρηπῖδα αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ ἡμέραι θερισμοῦ πυρῶν – ,
[15] And when the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord entered upon Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord were dipped in part of the water of Jordan; (now Jordan overflowed all its banks about the time of wheat harvest:)
[16] καὶ ἔστη τὰ ὕδατα τὰ καταβαίνοντα ἄνωθεν, ἔστη πῆγμα ἓν ἀφεστηκὸς μακρὰν σφόδρα σφοδρῶς ἕως μέρους Καριαθιαριμ, τὸ δὲ καταβαῖνον κατέβη εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν Αραβα, θάλασσαν ἁλός, ἕως εἰς τὸ τέλος ἐξέλιπεν· καὶ ὁ λαὸς εἱστήκει ἀπέναντι Ιεριχω.
[16] then the waters that came down from above stopped; there stood one solid heap very far off, as far as the region of Kariathiarim, and the lower part came down to the sea of Araba, the salt sea, till it completely failed; and the people stood opposite Jericho.
[17] καὶ ἔστησαν οἱ ἱερεῖς οἱ αἴροντες τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης κυρίου ἐπὶ ξηρᾶς ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ Ιορδάνου· καὶ πάντες οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ διέβαινον διὰ ξηρᾶς, ἕως συνετέλεσεν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς διαβαίνων τὸν Ιορδάνην.
[17] And the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood on dry land in the midst of Jordan; and all the children of Israel went through on dry land, until all the people had completely gone over Jordan.
CHAPTER 4
[1] Καὶ ἐπεὶ συνετέλεσεν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς διαβαίνων τὸν Ιορδάνην, καὶ εἶπεν κύριος τῷ Ἰησοῖ λέγων
[1] And when the people had completely passed over Jordan, the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying,
[2] Παραλαβὼν ἄνδρας ἀπὸ τοῦ λαοῦ, ἕνα ἀφ’ ἑκάστης φυλῆς,
[2] Take men from the people, one of each tribe,
[3] σύνταξον αὐτοῖς λέγων Ἀνέλεσθε ἐκ μέσου τοῦ Ιορδάνου ἑτοίμους δώδεκα λίθους καὶ τούτους διακομίσαντες ἅμα ὑμῖν αὐτοῖς θέτε αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ στρατοπεδείᾳ ὑμῶν, οὗ ἐὰν παρεμβάλητε ἐκεῖ τὴν νύκτα.
[3] and charge them; and ye shall take out of the midst of Jordan twelve fit stones, and having carried them across together with yourselves, place them in your camp, where ye shall encamp for the night.
[4] καὶ ἀνακαλεσάμενος Ἰησοῦς δώδεκα ἄνδρας τῶν ἐνδόξων ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ, ἕνα ἀφ’ ἑκάστης φυλῆς,
[4] And Joshua having called twelve men of distinction among the children of Israel, one of each tribe,
[5] εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Προσαγάγετε ἔμπροσθέν μου πρὸ προσώπου κυρίου εἰς μέσον τοῦ Ιορδάνου, καὶ ἀνελόμενος ἐκεῖθεν ἕκαστος λίθον ἀράτω ἐπὶ τῶν ὤμων αὐτοῦ κατὰ τὸν ἀριθμὸν τῶν δώδεκα φυλῶν τοῦ Ισραηλ,
[5] said to them, Advance before me in the presence of the Lord into the midst of Jordan, and each having taken up a stone from thence, let him carry it on his shoulders, according to the number of the twelve tribes of Israel:
[6] ἵνα ὑπάρχωσιν ὑμῖν οὗτοι εἰς σημεῖον κείμενον διὰ παντός, ἵνα ὅταν ἐρωτᾷ σε ὁ υἱός σου αὔριον λέγων Τί εἰσιν οἱ λίθοι οὗτοι ὑμῖν;
[6] that these may be to you continually for an appointed sign, that when thy son asks thee in future, saying, What are these stones to us?
[7] καὶ σὺ δηλώσεις τῷ υἱῷ σου λέγων Ὅτι ἐξέλιπεν ὁ Ιορδάνης ποταμὸς ἀπὸ προσώπου κιβωτοῦ διαθήκης κυρίου πάσης τῆς γῆς, ὡς διέβαινεν αὐτόν· καὶ ἔσονται οἱ λίθοι οὗτοι ὑμῖν μνημόσυνον τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισραηλ ἕως τοῦ αἰῶνος.
[7] then thou mayest explain to thy son, saying, The river Jordan was dried up from before the ark of the covenant of the Lord of the whole earth, when it passed it: and these stones shall be for a memorial for you for the children of Israel for ever.
[8] καὶ ἐποίησαν οὕτως οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ, καθότι ἐνετείλατο κύριος τῷ Ἰησοῖ, καὶ λαβόντες δώδεκα λίθους ἐκ μέσου τοῦ Ιορδάνου, καθάπερ συνέταξεν κύριος τῷ Ἰησοῖ ἐν τῇ συντελείᾳ τῆς διαβάσεως τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ, καὶ διεκόμισαν ἅμα ἑαυτοῖς εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν καὶ ἀπέθηκαν ἐκεῖ.
[8] And the children of Israel did so, as the Lord commanded Joshua; and they took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, (as the Lord commanded Joshua, when the children of Israel had completely passed over,)and carried these stones with them into the camp, and laid them down there.
[9] ἔστησεν δὲ Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἄλλους δώδεκα λίθους ἐν αὐτῷ τῷ Ιορδάνῃ ἐν τῷ γενομένῳ τόπῳ ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας τῶν ἱερέων τῶν αἰρόντων τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης κυρίου, καί εἰσιν ἐκεῖ ἕως τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας.
[9] And Joshua set also other twelve stones in Jordan itself, in the place that was under the feet of the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord; and there they are to this day.
[10] εἱστήκεισαν δὲ οἱ ἱερεῖς οἱ αἴροντες τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης ἐν τῷ Ιορδάνῃ, ἕως οὗ συνετέλεσεν Ἰησοῦς πάντα, ἃ ἐνετείλατο κύριος ἀναγγεῖλαι τῷ λαῷ, καὶ ἔσπευσεν ὁ λαὸς καὶ διέβησαν.
