[17] And it came to pass in her hard labour, that the midwife said to her, Be of good courage, for thou shalt also have this son.
[18] ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ ἀφιέναι αὐτὴν τὴν ψυχήν – ἀπέθνῃσκεν γάρ – ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Υἱὸς ὀδύνης μου· ὁ δὲ πατὴρ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὸν Βενιαμιν.
[18] And it came to pass in her giving up the ghost (for she was dying), that she called his name, The son of my pain; but his father called his name Benjamin.
[19] ἀπέθανεν δὲ Ραχηλ καὶ ἐτάφη ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ Εφραθα [αὕτη ἐστὶν Βηθλεεμ].
[19] So Rachel died, and was buried in the way of the course of Ephratha, this is Bethleem.
[20] καὶ ἔστησεν Ιακωβ στήλην ἐπὶ τοῦ μνημείου αὐτῆς· αὕτη ἐστὶν στήλη μνημείου Ραχηλ ἕως τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας.
[20] And Jacob set up a pillar on her tomb; this is the pillar on the tomb of Rachel, until this day.
[21] Ἐγένετο δὲ ἡνίκα κατῴκησεν Ισραηλ ἐν τῇ γῇ ἐκείνῃ, ἐπορεύθη Ρουβην καὶ ἐκοιμήθη μετὰ Βαλλας τῆς παλλακῆς τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἤκουσεν Ισραηλ, καὶ πονηρὸν ἐφάνη ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ.
[21] And it came to pass when Israel dwelt in that land, that Ruben went and lay with Balla, the concubine of his father Jacob; and Israel heard, and the thing appeared grievous before him.
[22] Ἦσαν δὲ οἱ υἱοὶ Ιακωβ δώδεκα.
[22] And the sons of Jacob were twelve.
[23] υἱοὶ Λειας· πρωτότοκος Ιακωβ Ρουβην, Συμεων, Λευι, Ιουδας, Ισσαχαρ, Ζαβουλων.
[23] The sons of Lea, the first-born of Jacob; Ruben, Symeon, Levi, Judas, Issachar, Zabulon.
[24] υἱοὶ δὲ Ραχηλ· Ιωσηφ καὶ Βενιαμιν.
[24] And the sons of Rachel; Joseph and Benjamin.
[25] υἱοὶ δὲ Βαλλας παιδίσκης Ραχηλ· Δαν καὶ Νεφθαλι.
[25] And the sons of Balla, the hand-maid of Rachel; Dan and Nephthalim.
[26] υἱοὶ δὲ Ζελφας παιδίσκης Λειας· Γαδ καὶ Ασηρ. οὗτοι υἱοὶ Ιακωβ, οἳ ἐγένοντο αὐτῷ ἐν Μεσοποταμίᾳ τῆς Συρίας
[26] And the sons of Zelpha, the hand-maid of Lea; Gad and Aser. These are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Mesopotamia of Syria.
[27] Ἦλθεν δὲ Ιακωβ πρὸς Ισαακ τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ εἰς Μαμβρη εἰς πόλιν τοῦ πεδίου [αὕτη ἐστὶν Χεβρων] ἐν γῇ Χανααν, οὗ παρῴκησεν Αβρααμ καὶ Ισαακ.
[27] And Jacob came to Isaac his father to Mambre, to a city of the plain; this is Chebron in the land of Chanaan, where Abraam and Isaac sojourned.
[28] ἐγένοντο δὲ αἱ ἡμέραι Ισαακ, ἃς ἔζησεν, ἔτη ἑκατὸν ὀγδοήκοντα·
[28] And the days of Isaac which he lived were an hundred and eighty years.
[29] καὶ ἐκλιπὼν ἀπέθανεν καὶ προσετέθη πρὸς τὸ γένος αὐτοῦ πρεσβύτερος καὶ πλήρης ἡμερῶν, καὶ ἔθαψαν αὐτὸν Ησαυ καὶ Ιακωβ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ.
[29] And Isaac gave up the ghost and died, and was laid to his family, old and full of days; and Esau and Jacob his sons buried him.
CHAPTER 36
[1] Αὗται δὲ αἱ γενέσεις Ησαυ [αὐτός ἐστιν Εδωμ]·
[1] And these are the generations of Esau; this is Edom.
[2] Ησαυ δὲ ἔλαβεν γυναῖκας ἑαυτῷ ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων τῶν Χαναναίων, τὴν Αδα θυγατέρα Αιλων τοῦ Χετταίου καὶ τὴν Ελιβεμα θυγατέρα Ανα τοῦ υἱοῦ Σεβεγων τοῦ Ευαίου
[2] And Esau took to himself wives of the daughters of the Chananites; Ada, the daughter of Ælom the Chettite; and Olibema, daughter of Ana the son of Sebegon, the Evite;
[3] καὶ τὴν Βασεμμαθ θυγατέρα Ισμαηλ ἀδελφὴν Ναβαιωθ.
[3] and Basemath, daughter of Ismael, sister of Nabaioth.
[4] ἔτεκεν δὲ Αδα τῷ Ησαυ τὸν Ελιφας, καὶ Βασεμμαθ ἔτεκεν τὸν Ραγουηλ,
[4] And Ada bore to him Eliphas; and Basemath bore Raguel.
[5] καὶ Ελιβεμα ἔτεκεν τὸν Ιεους καὶ τὸν Ιεγλομ καὶ τὸν Κορε· οὗτοι υἱοὶ Ησαυ, οἳ ἐγένοντο αὐτῷ ἐν γῇ Χανααν.
[5] And Olibema bore Jeus, and Jeglom, and Core; these are the sons of Esau, which were born to him in the land of Chanaan.
[6] ἔλαβεν δὲ Ησαυ τὰς γυναῖκας αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας καὶ πάντα τὰ σώματα τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα τὰ ὑπάρχοντα καὶ πάντα τὰ κτήνη καὶ πάντα, ὅσα ἐκτήσατο καὶ ὅσα περιεποιήσατο ἐν γῇ Χανααν, καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἐκ γῆς Χανααν ἀπὸ προσώπου Ιακωβ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ·
[6] And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and all his possessions, and all his cattle, and all that he had got, and all things whatsoever he had acquired in the land of Chanaan; and Esau went forth from the land of Chanaan, from the face of his brother Jacob.
[7] ἦν γὰρ αὐτῶν τὰ ὑπάρχοντα πολλὰ τοῦ οἰκεῖν ἅμα, καὶ οὐκ ἐδύνατο ἡ γῆ τῆς παροικήσεως αὐτῶν φέρειν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τοῦ πλήθους τῶν ὑπαρχόντων αὐτῶν.
[7] For their substance was too great for them to dwell together; and the land of their sojourning could not bear them, because of the abundance of their possessions.
[8] ᾤκησεν δὲ Ησαυ ἐν τῷ ὄρει Σηιρ [Ησαυ αὐτός ἐστιν Εδωμ].
[8] And Esau dwelt in mount Seir; Esau, he is Edom.
[9] Αὗται δὲ αἱ γενέσεις Ησαυ πατρὸς Εδωμ ἐν τῷ ὄρει Σηιρ,
[9] And these are the generations of Esau, the father of Edom in the mount Seir.
[10] καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν υἱῶν Ησαυ· Ελιφας υἱὸς Αδας γυναικὸς Ησαυ καὶ Ραγουηλ υἱὸς Βασεμμαθ γυναικὸς Ησαυ.
[10] And these are the names of the sons of Esau. Eliphas, the son of Ada, the wife of Esau; and Raguel, the son of Basemath, wife of Esau.
[11] ἐγένοντο δὲ υἱοὶ Ελιφας· Θαιμαν, Ωμαρ, Σωφαρ, Γοθομ καὶ Κενεζ·
[11] And the sons of Eliphas were Thaeman, Omar, Sophar, Gothom, and Kenez.
[12] Θαμνα δὲ ἦν παλλακὴ Ελιφας τοῦ υἱοῦ Ησαυ καὶ ἔτεκεν τῷ Ελιφας τὸν Αμαληκ· οὗτοι υἱοὶ Αδας γυναικὸς Ησαυ.
[12] And Thamna was a concubine of Eliphaz, the son of Esau; and she bore Amalec to Eliphas. These are the sons of Ada, the wife of Esau.
[13] οὗτοι δὲ υἱοὶ Ραγουηλ· Ναχοθ, Ζαρε, Σομε καὶ Μοζε· οὗτοι ἦσαν υἱοὶ Βασεμμαθ γυναικὸς Ησαυ.
[13] And these are the sons of Raguel; Nachoth, Zare, Some, and Moze. These were the sons of Basemath, wife of Esau.
[14] οὗτοι δὲ ἦσαν υἱοὶ Ελιβεμας θυγατρὸς Ανα τοῦ υἱοῦ Σεβεγων, γυναικὸς Ησαυ· ἔτεκεν δὲ τῷ Ησαυ τὸν Ιεους καὶ τὸν Ιεγλομ καὶ τὸν Κορε. –
[14] And these are the sons of Olibema, the daughter of Ana, the son of Sebegon, the wife of Esau; and she bore to Esau, Jeus, and Jeglom, and Core.
[15] οὗτοι ἡγεμόνες υἱοὶ Ησαυ· υἱοὶ Ελιφας πρωτοτόκου Ησαυ· ἡγεμὼν Θαιμαν, ἡγεμὼν Ωμαρ, ἡγεμὼν Σωφαρ, ἡγεμὼν Κενεζ,
[15] These are the chiefs of the son of Esau, even the sons of Eliphas, the first-born of Esau; chief Thaeman, chief Omar, chief Sophar, chief Kenez,
[16] ἡγεμὼν Κορε, ἡγεμὼν Γοθομ, ἡγεμὼν Αμαληκ· οὗτοι ἡγεμόνες Ελιφας ἐν γῇ Ιδουμαίᾳ· οὗτοι υἱοὶ Αδας.
[16] chief Core, chief Gothom, chief Amalec. These are the chiefs of Eliphas, in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Ada.
[17] καὶ οὗτοι υἱοὶ Ραγουηλ υἱοῦ Ησαυ· ἡγεμὼν Ναχοθ, ἡγεμὼν Ζαρε, ἡγεμὼν Σομε, ἡγεμὼν Μοζε· οὗτοι ἡγεμόνες Ραγουηλ ἐν γῇ Εδωμ· οὗτοι υἱοὶ Βασεμμαθ γυναικὸς Ησαυ.
[17] And these are the sons of Raguel, the son of Esau; chief Nachoth, chief Zare, chief Some, chief Moze. These are the chiefs of Raguel, in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Basemath, wife of Esau.
[18] οὗτοι δὲ υἱοὶ Ελιβεμας γυναικὸς Ησαυ· ἡγεμὼν Ιεους, ἡγεμὼν Ιεγλομ, ἡγεμὼν Κορε· οὗτοι ἡγεμόνες Ελιβεμας. –
[18] And these are the sons of Olibema, wife of Esau; chief Jeus, chief Jeglom, chief Core. These are the chiefs of Olibema, daughter of Ana, wife of Esau.
[19] οὗτοι υἱοὶ Ησαυ, καὶ οὗτοι ἡγεμόνες αὐτῶν. οὗτοί εἰσιν υἱοὶ Εδωμ.
[19] These are the sons of Esau, and these are the chiefs; these are the sons of Edom.
[20] Οὗτοι δὲ υἱοὶ Σηιρ τοῦ Χορραίου τοῦ κατοικοῦντος τὴν γῆν· Λωταν, Σωβαλ, Σεβεγων, Ανα
[20] And these are the sons of Seir, the Chorrhite, who inhabited the land; Lotan, Sobal, Sebegon, Ana,
[21] καὶ Δησων καὶ Ασαρ καὶ Ρισων· οὗτοι ἡγεμόνες τοῦ Χορραίου τοῦ υἱοῦ Σηιρ ἐν τῇ γῇ Εδωμ.
[21] and Deson, and Asar, and Rison. These are the chiefs of the Chorrhite, the son of Seir, in the land of Edom.
[22] ἐγένοντο δὲ υἱοὶ Λωταν· Χορρι καὶ Αιμαν· ἀδελφὴ δὲ Λωταν Θαμνα.
[22] And the sons of Lotan were Chorrhi and Haeman; and the sister of Lotan, Thamna.
[23] οὗτοι δὲ υἱοὶ Σωβαλ· Γωλων καὶ Μαναχαθ καὶ Γαιβηλ, Σωφ καὶ Ωμαν.
[23] And these are the sons of Sobal; Golam, and Manachath, and Gaebel, and Sophar, and Omar.
[24] καὶ οὗτοι υἱοὶ Σεβεγων· Αιε καὶ Ωναν· οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ Ωνας, ὃς εὗρεν τὸν Ιαμιν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ὅτε ἔνεμεν τὰ ὑποζύγια Σεβεγων τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ.
[24] And these are the sons of Sebegon; Aie, and Ana; this is the Ana who found Jamin in the wilderness, when he tended the beasts of his father Sebegon.
[25] οὗτοι δὲ υἱοὶ Ανα· Δησων· καὶ Ελιβεμα θυγάτηρ Ανα.
[25] And these are the sons of Ana; Deson — and Olibema was daughter of Ana.
[26] οὗτοι δὲ υἱοὶ Δησων· Αμαδα καὶ Ασβαν καὶ Ιεθραν καὶ Χαρραν.
[26] And these are the sons of Deson; Amada, and Asban, and Ithran, and Charrhan.
[27] οὗτοι δὲ υἱοὶ Ασαρ· Βαλααν καὶ Ζουκαμ καὶ Ιωυκαμ καὶ Ουκαν.
[27] And these are the sons of Asar; Balaam, and Zucam, and Jucam.
[28] οὗτοι δὲ υἱοὶ Ρισων· Ως καὶ Αραμ. –
[28] And these are the sons of Rison; Hos, and Aran.
[29] οὗτοι ἡγεμόνες Χορρι· ἡγεμὼν Λωταν, ἡγεμὼν Σωβαλ, ἡγεμὼν Σεβεγων, ἡγεμὼν Ανα,
[29] And these are the chiefs of Chorri; chief Lotan, chief Sobal, chief Sebegon, chief Ana,
[30] ἡγεμὼν Δησων, ἡγεμὼν Ασαρ, ἡγεμὼν Ρισων. οὗτοι ἡγεμόνες Χορρι ἐν ταῖς ἡγεμονίαις αὐτῶν ἐν γῇ Εδωμ.
[30] chief Deson, chief Asar, chief Rison. These are the chiefs of Chorri, in their principalities in the land of Edom.
[31] Καὶ οὗτοι οἱ βασιλεῖς οἱ βασιλεύσαντες ἐν Εδωμ πρὸ τοῦ βασιλεῦσαι βασιλέα ἐν Ισραηλ.
[31] these are the kings which reigned in Edom, before a king reigned in Israel.
[32] καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Εδωμ Βαλακ υἱὸς τοῦ Βεωρ, καὶ ὄνομα τῇ πόλει αὐτοῦ Δενναβα.
[32] And Balac, son of Beor, reigned in Edom; and the name of his city was Dennaba.
[33] ἀπέθανεν δὲ Βαλακ, καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἀντ αὐτοῦ Ιωβαβ υἱὸς Ζαρα ἐκ Βοσορρας.
[33] And Balac died; and Jobab, son of Zara, from Bosorrha reigned in his stead.
[34] ἀπέθανεν δὲ Ιωβαβ, καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἀντ αὐτοῦ Ασομ ἐκ τῆς γῆς Θαιμανων.
[34] And Jobab died; and Asom, from the land of the Thaemanites, reigned in his stead.
[35] ἀπέθανεν δὲ Ασομ, καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἀντ αὐτοῦ Αδαδ υἱὸς Βαραδ ὁ ἐκκόψας Μαδιαμ ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ Μωαβ, καὶ ὄνομα τῇ πόλει αὐτοῦ Γεθθαιμ.
[35] And Asom died; and Adad son of Barad, who cut off Madiam in the plain of Moab, ruled in his stead; and the name of his city was Getthaim.
[36] ἀπέθανεν δὲ Αδαδ, καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἀντ αὐτοῦ Σαμαλα ἐκ Μασεκκας.
[36] And Adad died; and Samada of Massecca reigned in his stead.
[37] ἀπέθανεν δὲ Σαμαλα, καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἀντ αὐτοῦ Σαουλ ἐκ Ροωβωθ τῆς παρὰ ποταμόν.
[37] Samada died; and Saul of Rhooboth by the river reigned in his stead.
[38] ἀπέθανεν δὲ Σαουλ, καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἀντ αὐτοῦ Βαλαεννων υἱὸς Αχοβωρ.
[38] And Saul died; and Ballenon the son of Achobor reigned in his stead.
[39] ἀπέθανεν δὲ Βαλαεννων υἱὸς Αχοβωρ, καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἀντ αὐτοῦ Αραδ υἱὸς Βαραδ, καὶ ὄνομα τῇ πόλει αὐτοῦ Φογωρ, ὄνομα δὲ τῇ γυναικὶ αὐτοῦ Μαιτεβεηλ θυγάτηρ Ματραιθ υἱοῦ Μαιζοοβ.
[39] And Ballenon the son of Achobor died; and Arad the son of Barad reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Phogor; and the name of his wife was Metebeel, daughter of Matraith, son of Maizoob.
[40] Ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν ἡγεμόνων Ησαυ ἐν ταῖς φυλαῖς αὐτῶν κατὰ τόπον αὐτῶν, ἐν ταῖς χώραις αὐτῶν καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν αὐτῶν· ἡγεμὼν Θαμνα, ἡγεμὼν Γωλα, ἡγεμὼν Ιεθερ,
[40] These are the names of the chiefs of Esau, in their tribes, according to their place, in their countries, and in their nations; chief Thamna, chief Gola, chief Jether,
[41] ἡγεμὼν Ελιβεμας, ἡγεμὼν Ηλας, ἡγεμὼν Φινων,
[41] chief Olibema, chief Helas, chief Phinon,
[42] ἡγεμὼν Κενεζ, ἡγεμὼν Θαιμαν, ἡγεμὼν Μαζαρ,
[42] chief Kenez, chief Thaeman, chief Mazar,
[43] ἡγεμὼν Μεγεδιηλ, ἡγεμὼν Ζαφωιμ. οὗτοι ἡγεμόνες Εδωμ ἐν ταῖς κατῳκοδομημέναις ἐν τῇ γῇ τῆς κτήσεως αὐτῶν. Οὗτος Ησαυ πατὴρ Εδωμ.
[43] chief Magediel, chief Zaphoin. These are the chiefs of Edom in their dwelling-places in the land of their possession; this is Esau, the father of Edom.
CHAPTER 37
[1] Κατῴκει δὲ Ιακωβ ἐν τῇ γῇ, οὗ παρῴκησεν ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ, ἐν γῇ Χανααν.
[44] And Jacob dwelt in the land where his father sojourned, in the land of Chanaan.
[2] αὗται δὲ αἱ γενέσεις Ιακωβ· Ιωσηφ δέκα ἑπτὰ ἐτῶν ἦν ποιμαίνων μετὰ τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ τὰ πρόβατα ὢν νέος, μετὰ τῶν υἱῶν Βαλλας καὶ μετὰ τῶν υἱῶν Ζελφας τῶν γυναικῶν τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ· κατήνεγκεν δὲ Ιωσηφ ψόγον πονηρὸν πρὸς Ισραηλ τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν.
[2] And these are the generations of Jacob. And Joseph was seventeen years old, feeding the sheep of his father with his brethren, being young; with the sons of Balla, and with the sons of Zelpha, the wives of his father; and Joseph brought to Israel their father their evil reproach.
[3] Ιακωβ δὲ ἠγάπα τὸν Ιωσηφ παρὰ πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ, ὅτι υἱὸς γήρους ἦν αὐτῷ· ἐποίησεν δὲ αὐτῷ χιτῶνα ποικίλον.
[3] And Jacob loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was to him the son of old age; and he made for him a coat of many colours.
[4] ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι αὐτὸν ὁ πατὴρ φιλεῖ ἐκ πάντων τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ, ἐμίσησαν αὐτὸν καὶ οὐκ ἐδύναντο λαλεῖν αὐτῷ οὐδὲν εἰρηνικόν.
