“Okay, so I know you can’t drink BUT I know what will cheer you up,” Eric bellowed.

  “What’s that?”

“I spiked all the ladies’ drinks with Viagra,” he admitted.

“E! What? Is there Viagra for women?”

  “Yes, kinda…well, sorta.”

  “Like everyone?”

“Well not you, silly, but yes, everyone else.”

  “Emma?”

  “Yep.”

  “Emily, Debbie and my mom?”

  “Ahh yep.”

He held out his palm and I high fived him before he ran back to the dance floor and joined them like the crazed lunatic he was, he wrestled the microphone off Adriana who was doing a rendition of Borderline. He announced the entertainment was here and, uncomfortably, I was forced to be center of attention. I wasn’t surprised one bit when strippers strutted their goods around me. These bulked up, hot (and I mean HOT) guys dressed in their fire gear. Holy shit, they were hot; not as hot as my man but I swear I could see Eric’s drool hit the ground. Nikki was bouncing around like she had ants in her pants. Emma was long gone; often she would yell out comments like “fuck you Michael and your mafia whores!” Gosh, I so needed to find out what the hell that was about.

Emily was whistling really loud and Debbie and my mom grabbed champagne, each drinking straight from the bottle.

At this point I wanted to grab my confiscated cell to text Lex and say I had nothing to do with this, but knowing Rocky, there was probably pussy galore parading in front of them right now, so I didn’t feel so bad.

Eric was in man heaven, groping the stripper’s butt who surprisingly didn’t flinch at Eric’s touch. Okay, so that kinda killed my buzz; they were gay. Bulls and Jen didn’t seem to care, though, and they were at it hammer & tongs, tugging on the g-strings trying to peek inside. They soon grew impatient and the strippers went the full monty. So here’s the thing: a naked man is standing in front of you, and much like the giant elephant in the room, you can’t help but look at it. Times that by three and I swear I felt like I was in a zoo. I could have sworn they were looking at me, the penises, that is. Is that even a word? Plural penis? God, I felt so dirty.

Bulls was rubbing her body up against the blond stripper, his semi-hard cock impossible to ignore. A loud bang forced me to look away. What the hell? Rocky had fallen to the ground in the backyard outside the pink cubby house and the shadows of what looked like others disappeared into the dark. He yelled her name and she laughed at a very pissed off Rocky. I knew somewhere Lex stood watching us; I didn’t know where, but I felt him. His stare on me, I knew he wouldn’t show his face, but if Rocky was here then so was he. I smiled because I wished that if he was looking at me right now he could sense how much I missed him and how the next two hours seemed like a lifetime away. Behind the big oak tree I saw him, his silhouette and his gaze permanently fixed on mine. I winked, and watched as the silhouette of my beautiful man relaxed.

“I wish I had what you had,” Emma sighed as she stood beside me, looking at the stars.

“What’s going on, Em? Michael busting your chops?”

“Nope, the opposite. He doesn’t bust my chops about anything. He has his other skanks to worry about.”

I put my arm around her, trying to ease her pain. Men sucked.

“I’m sorry, Em, I didn’t realize Michael was like that. Plenty more cock in the coop.”

She giggled “Did Eric teach you that?”

“Who else,” I giggled as well.

  …

“You nervous?” Adriana asked as she fixed my train.

Was I? No. I was reeling from the fact that in less than twenty minutes I would see Lex again “Not a single bit.” I beamed.

Adriana announced she was finally done. Standing back, she watched me. Barely above a whisper, all I heard was “there are no words” as I watched her wipe a falling tear from her face. “Mascara, Adriana,” I gently scolded. She laughed, dabbing her eyes with a tissue.

  “It’s showtime,” she sang.

The girls planned a simple wedding, according to Jen. No bridesmaids or groomsmen and a simple, short ceremony. The only thing I had to do (which I couldn’t have wanted any more at this moment) was to walk down the aisle with my dad.

My dad held out his arm as he whispered, “Charlie, you sure about this?”

Without taking a single breath I responded, “Never been so sure of anything in my entire life, Dad.”

He patted my arm, a slight build-up of tears in his eyes. I was so ready. The violins started, it was my cue and here on the cliff top that was our place, a new memory was about to begin. As I turned the corner I saw him, my dark angel, waiting patiently for me. His emerald green eyes shone so bright, brighter than any light I had seen, and so without any hesitation, both my heart and feet started to walk towards him, finding their way into the light.

  Chapter 21

  Lex

In life, we strive for perfection. Whether it is emotional, physical or material - time and time again we are reminded that perfection is only momentary. Our natural instinct is to crave something greater, explore our want, our thirst, or our desire to find something superior. As humans, our brains are programmed to think this way, but tonight at the stroke of midnight my brain was reprogrammed because perfection was walking down the aisle toward me, like an angel of purity in all its beauty. Her smile radiated; a few more feet and she would finally be beside me.

Mark kissed her cheek before handing her to me and then, as I expected, as I craved, the jolt. Electrifying every single part of me, a constant reminder that only she had the power to make me feel this. I knew without a single doubt that she felt it, too, and I knew I shouldn’t have done it but I leaned in and kissed her lips, caught up in the moment. “Charlotte, you are beautiful,” I whispered softly against her lips. The celebrant interrupted us and there under the pale moonlight, three minutes past midnight, I said the words.

“Charlotte Olivia Mason. I promise to cherish you and love you, unconditionally for the rest of our lives. I vow that every breath I take, every beat of my heart, belongs to you and only you.” I slid the ring on her finger, once again kissing it before she spoke.

“Alexander Matthew Edwards, I take you to be my constant friend and my loving partner. I promise to be faithful and devote myself to you, only you and our marriage. I give you my hand, my heart, the air that I breathe. For as long as we both shall live.” She slid the ring on my finger, again.

I didn’t wait for the words, I kissed her. Five hours apart had felt like a lifetime and now in front of our family and friends, we were officially Mr. and Mrs. Edwards. There was a loud roar, whistling and clapping amongst our nearest and dearest. A soft violin piece played in the background and without warning a burst of thunder rolled in on the horizon, but Charlotte didn’t flinch one bit. She used to be terrified of that sound, never giving me an explanation as to why.

“How come the thunder didn’t scare you?”

“Because I have you to protect me.” She smiled and placed her arms around me as we continued to lose ourselves in each other, our lips unable to unlock until Rocky said we needed to stop because it was bordering on pornographic. We pulled away as the music started and right there on our spot we danced to what was once our song.

“I love this song.” Charlotte rested her head on my shoulder.

“I know...I wasn’t sure if…” She interrupted me by placing her finger against my lips.

“I don’t care what happened after. No one can ever erase that moment in time when we sat side by side playing the piano and singing. Whatever the hell happened after, I don’t care. That moment stuck with me, that song stuck with me and, Lex, it is our song. It’s not tainted and thank you, for choosing it today for us to dance to.” She was eerily calm, a perfect calm, and I felt my body relax, allowing myself to enjoy this dance with my wife.

The girls had planned a simple ceremony followed by an even simpler reception here on the cliff top. Our loved ones surrounded us as they took to each other and danced beside us. It would be followed by cutting the cake, my speech, then straight to our honeymoon where I got to enjoy Charlotte for a month. A month of fucking my beautiful wife all day, all night. Now that was heaven.

During our dance people congratulated us, but I managed to hold onto Charlotte tight because my fucking boner was standing out like an eyesore. Eric, the fucking idiot, was obviously amused by it all. I had the right mind to kidnap him and have women rub their pussies all up in his face just to teach him a lesson. The throbbing pain was unbearable and I needed a release, but how awful it would be if I was caught jerking off at my own wedding? For some reason the others didn’t have a problem. In fact, I couldn’t spot the others apart from Rocky, who looked pretty smug. I suspected he’d had his release already. Smug motherfucker.

I motioned for Charlotte to come with me and she did without asking a thousand questions. I took her down the path, but along the way I heard rustling in the bushes followed by a giggle. I stopped and placed my fingers against my mouth, motioning for Charlotte to be quiet so we could hear who it was.

  “Andrew…right there…”

  OH FUCK NO!

I grabbed Charlotte’s arms with force as she giggled, knowing all too well that the idea of my parents having sex was the biggest nightmare of all time, but somehow the general was so pumped with Viagra that his saluting was relentless. As I lead her down the path I found the isolated cave and pulled her inside.

Against the rock wall, I smashed my lips against hers. “Lex, we have everyone waiting…”

“Don’t worry about them, Rocky has it covered. I need to fuck you now, as my wife. I promise to make sweet love to you when we get back to our hotel room but right now I need to fuck you.” There was no objection, I lifted her dress and plunged into her, the sound of her small cry echoing in the cave.

“I saw you with the firefighters…Charlotte, it made me so fucking jealous. This, the way I am fucking you, is to show you that you belong to me. Obsessed together forever, we said the words. I am obsessed with you, every move you make, every stare at another man. I am watching.”

She didn’t say a word, only pulled me in tighter and begged for more.

“And did you see me touch the firefighter? Did you see me look at his cock?” she asked teasingly.

Oh, she fucking knew what she was doing. I grabbed her ass, gripping it so tight that I knew my nails were digging into her; I couldn’t get in deep enough. Calm the fuck down, don’t hurt the baby.

“Yes I did, and I wanted to rip you off that stage. You are my wife, my wife…” my words warned her in exactly 5 seconds I would blow. 5…4…3…2…1.

It ripped through me brutally and with so much force that I felt my legs shaking, struggling to keep my balance and gripping onto the wall for support. I could feel her clench around me, my body jerking, and my cock now sensitive to any movement. We stood there for a moment catching our breaths until Charlotte admitted she knew about the Viagra.

“Charlotte, I can guarantee even without it I would have fucked you into oblivion. Oh, and have I already told you that you look beautiful tonight?”

“Yes, but only like a hundred times. I may need to hear it again to be sure.”

“Hmmmm I married such a smart mouth… Charlotte Edwards, you look beautiful.”

“That’s better, and you, my husband, look like sex on a stick. I’m sorry, you know you look handsome but this tux is making me insanely horny. There I said it. Inappropriate for wedding speak, but hey, that’s me.”

“I think our lack of consideration for the sacred wedding celebration was displayed minutes ago and I am more than happy to remind you again, should you need.”

“Now, that’s the Viagra talking,” she giggled.

We head back and as we resume activities, Rocky is quick to pull me aside. He sniffed my collar like some fucking weirdo. “Dude, I said ten minutes. What took you so long to blow?” Rocky complained. “I had to do a rendition of Chicago and Barry Manilow.”

“And the crowds are still here?” I asked sarcastically.

  “Dude, you smell like pussy.”

I was ready to smack him in the face when Charlotte dragged her mother over to meet me. She cleared her throat and Maria waited patiently for my full attention. “I know you’ve met before under different circumstances, but Mom, I want to introduce you to my husband, Lex Edwards, AND before you start sending him bad karma or shit like that, remember he is the father of our baby as well. So there,” she said matter-of-factly.

To be polite I leaned over to kiss her hello but exactly like the first time we met she placed her hand over my cheek. I stood there waiting, trying my best to be respectful, but the resentment towards her was hard to ignore for she was the one that spun her lies about Charlotte moving on. If it wasn’t for that, who knows what might have been? Maybe I wouldn’t have wasted seven years wandering the earth like a nomad. She sensed my bitterness towards her, almost pulling her hand away immediately. Her face looked disheartened and she must have known she fucked with the universe big time by the words she had said to Adriana and I.

Charlotte was called by Kate and reluctantly she left, but not without whispering “Let it go,” to me as she walked away. How could I let it go? This woman fucking angered me.

“Cometemos errores cuando estamos tratando de proteger a la persona que amamos.”

Was she trying to defend herself? She knew, this woman had some sort of gift. Shit that I normally didn’t believe in, but how on earth did she know what I was thinking at that moment?

“We do make mistakes when we are trying to protect the ones we love. I should know that since I spent seven years trying to repair mine,” I answered bitterly.

“Then you must understand how I feel,” Maria implored.

“I’m trying. That’s the best I can do.”

  “I see things, Alex...”

  “Lex,” I correct her.

“You are still Alex in her eyes. You may think you have this new persona but Charlotte still sees you as Alex. The one she fell in love with. This ‘Lex’ you speak of? He is only capable of hurting her. He became a man lost in a world of deceit and self-destruction. Perhaps you need to look at yourself, find who you really are,” she warned.

“You fucking think I would hurt Charlotte again?” Who the fuck did this woman think she was!

  “I don’t think, I know.”

  “Well you’re fucking wrong, ok?”

“This gift has been passed down from my great aunt. Its force is strong and unbeknown to me at times, the vision is there, blinding me and warning me to inform those in its path.”

“I don’t believe your shit, Maria. I don’t care that you’re Charlotte’s mother. Sounds to me like you’re jealous of your daughter because she found something you couldn’t. Don’t fucking poison her mind. Leave her alone and let her make her own decisions.”

“I’m not here to poison her mind. Her path has been decided upon. You, on the other hand, still have the chance to change yours.” They were her parting words before she walked away.

Unable to mask my anger towards her, I was unaware that Mark was standing beside me. He placed his hand on my shoulder, patting it.

“Kid, don’t listen to her nonsense. Nothing’s decided, what stuff like that does is implant a vicious seed in your head. I’ve had years of hearing that rubbish, I should know,” he rambled.

It was too late; her words were seeping into my conscious, slowly planting that seed. Was I capable of hurting Charlotte again? How? I knew that I couldn’t exist without her so the thought of pushing her away inflicted pain upon myself. This wasn’t what I wanted to be thinking about on my wedding day. Shake it off, Lex; jealousy is an ugly trait and that’s all this was.

I scanned the area, looking for Charlotte, needing her touch to reassure me at this moment that it was just us for a lifetime. She was standing beside BJ and Eric, laughing and carefree as BJ draped his arm over her. He was a sly bastard and without even thinking I moved towards them.

“Mate, why haven’t you introduced me to your lovely Mrs. yet? I had to hunt her down myself, and I tell ya what, this one sure is a keeper,” he laughed holding onto her tight… too tight for my liking.

“BJ, you’re only saying that cos I gave you a run for your money,” Charlotte chastised.

“You’re a top bird, Charlie. Now tell me where I can find my good friend, Kate. She did a runner on me.”

“How about you keep your dick in your pants and away from Kate?”

I burst out laughing and pulled Charlotte’s arm to me. BJ let go and pouted, rambling on about Kate being a cold-blooded bitch until Charlotte put him in his place. That’s why I loved her.

“Kate’s never mentioned you, BJ. Surely if she had I’d know your length and girth by now,” Eric jested.

  “Eric...” I warned.

Our conversation was interrupted as Adriana pulled me aside. “Are you ready?”

I nodded, it was speech time. I didn’t have to write anything down on a piece of paper. I was going to wing it, that’s how much confidence was behind the words I was about to speak. As she called for attention from the crowd, my dad whispered something in her ear, forcing her look at me and ask me to hold on. My dad planned to speak, much to my discontent. He cleared his throat and began.

“I am a man of few words but I hope that the words I say carry depth. This day was inevitable for anyone who knew Charlie and Lex seven years ago.” He looked at my mother, she smiled and he carried on.

“Charlie, you came into my life as a little girl, and became best friend to my daughter. Life threw some curveballs and here you are, standing as the strongest woman I am honored to know. You became my daughter thirteen years ago and today only celebrated that milestone.” Charlotte held onto my mother and grabbed a tissue, the two of them wiping their faces. My dad paused, his voice quivering slightly.
