“Okay.” I flopped back against the pillow. “Well, if I’m getting a spanking anyway, why on earth would I go through the work of undressing myself? It’s so much more fun to let you do it.”
He opened his mouth as if he had something to say, and then laughed. “Keep sassing me, woman, and we’ll add a belt to the program.”
“Promises, promises.” I giggled as he yanked me closer, dragging me across the sheets. I’d already kicked off my regular boot when we got here, but he made short work of my sock before working on my orthopedic boot. I’d shown him how to take it off and put it on, so I wasn’t worried about that part. I considered not lifting my butt when he started to pull off my jeans but figured that would just make my booted leg sore if he had to jostle me too much.
My underwear came off with the jeans, and he immediately tossed everything aside. He gently put my boot back on before gripping my top and all but ripping it over my head, taking my bra with it.
“Someone is horny,” I said, chuckling.
“Someone is getting a spanking,” he growled, scooping me into his arms. Again, even as he tried to be stern, there was a gentleness to him that I loved. He was a big guy compared to me with a hard, lean body and thighs you could bounce a quarter off. Yet, every time he touched me, even when he was fucking the hell out of me, a tenderness came through I doubted many people saw. And I loved it.
He sank down in a chair by the fireplace with me in his lap and then nudged me to my feet.
“Because of that damn boot, I can’t manhandle you the way I want to. So lie over my lap and don’t make me ask twice.”
I hopped on one foot, trying to lie down as gracefully as possible, but there was nothing graceful about having a booted leg, and I would have toppled onto the ground if he hadn’t caught me. We both snorted with laughter, and I raised my hands helplessly.
“If your goal in this was sexy, I think I failed you.”
He carefully lifted me and put me face down on his lap. “Baby doll, you without clothes is all the sexy I need.” He ran a hand along the curve of my ass, fingers so light it tickled a little. Honestly, it felt lovely. I enjoyed his touch far too much, even nonsexual touches, like when he cupped the side of my face sometimes before kissing me. Other times, when we finished making love, he’d hold me close and stroke his hand up and down my back. That was my favorite.
Until now.
His hands on my backside held a different kind of naughtiness to it, especially now as he teased me into a relaxed state. I knew something more intense was coming, but I trusted him.
Trust.
A word I’d been sure I would never use with another man.
Yet here I was, all up in my feelings for this incredible hunk of a hockey player.
The first slap against my cheek wasn’t hard, but it startled me.
“Easy,” he said quietly. “And don’t tense up. It hurts more that way.”
“How hard are you going to spank me?” I asked, trying to peer over my shoulder at him, but I was at an impossible angle and the boot felt like it weighed me down.
“We’ll see,” he said. “Until you’re soaking wet for me, or you ask me to stop.”
“Mmm, okay.” I let my body kind of mold over his legs. I wasn’t exactly comfortable, and my leg throbbed a bit in this position, but I wanted this. I wanted anything and everything he was willing to give me.
The next few smacks were also light, always followed by a gentle soothing caress afterward. When he slid a finger along my slit, I moaned.
“You’re already wet,” he whispered, pressing the tip of his finger inside of me.
Then he slapped me harder, the sting making me wince.
Each subsequent smack got harder until I cried out. “Oh, Decker, no more. It hurts.”
“You’ve been such a good girl,” he said in that gruff voice I loved so much. “Now you’re going to get a reward.”
Before I could respond, he lifted me to my feet and carried me to the bed. “Open wide, baby doll.”
My legs fell open, and he dropped between them. “Look how wet you are… You liked getting spanked.” The tip of his tongue slipped between my folds, and all I could do was moan. He licked and suckled my most intimate parts, taking delicate pieces of skin between his teeth and then sliding his tongue inside of me. He was an oral master, getting me off multiple times every time he did it, and a familiar tingle told me I was close. He’d sucked my clit into his mouth and put two fingers inside of me. I arched up, desperate for release, and when he curved his fingers, I shot off with a howl of pleasure.
It was like I’d been saving up all my orgasms for him because every damn time he got me off was harder and more intense than the last. I couldn’t breathe as pleasure practically vaulted me off the bed.
“Come again, baby doll,” he whispered. Before I realized what he was doing, one wicked finger penetrated my arse, and he bit down on my clit. This time the vibrations that shot through me were shockwaves of ecstasy mingled with a faint burning in my arse. I didn’t understand the disparate sensations, but my body was exploding with pleasure, and my guttural screams were probably bouncing off the snowbanks outside the cabin.
“Oh, yeah…” Decker’s raspy voice brought me back to reality. “You’re going to scream even louder when I fuck your ass.”
I might have made a strangled sound of protest.
But maybe not.
Mostly I was limp and lifeless, my vision still blurred, and my body shivering in the aftermath of something I couldn’t even try to describe in my current state.
“Decker.”
Had I said that aloud or in my head?
“Yeah, baby doll?”
“Can we do it again?”
“We will.” He was rolling on a condom. Then he lowered himself between my spread legs and slid into me.
After my two recent orgasms, my flesh was overly sensitive and I gasped, pushing at his chest.
“Shh.” He kissed my forehead and cheeks. “Relax. Settle in. We’re going to take our time.”
“But I should be pleasuring you,” I whispered.
“Oh, believe me, you are.”
“You know what I mean.”
He lightly kissed my lips. “I do. But we’re saving that until you’re ready to beg for it.”
“Beg for it?” I frowned. “You want me to beg to suck your dick? Is that a thing? Or do you plan to torture it out of me?”
He rumbled out a laugh. “No torture necessary. Some women get off on it. Others tolerate it. You’re going to beg to do it. And I’m not going to let you until you do. Then you’re going to swallow me right down your throat.”
I groaned just thinking about it.
“When I shoot off you’re going to choke and gag, and then swallow every drop before begging me to come in your tight, little, virgin asshole.”
Oh, he was cleverly naughty. His filthy words filled me with need, getting me aroused all over again. The discomfort between my legs morphed into sheer need, and I leaned up, nipping his lower lip with my teeth.
“You know just how to get me going, don’t you?” I demanded.
“I do.” He started to move. “Now squeeze that wet pussy around my cock while I fuck you good and hard.”
“I love when you talk this way,” I whispered, hoping desperately my face wasn’t red.
“Do you?” He slowed down for a moment, his eyes finding mine as he brought up one hand to run his knuckles along my cheek. “Because I can get way dirtier. A little name calling, the C-word… but I want to make sure you know it’s all about the sex. I wouldn’t say those types of things to you otherwise.”
“Don’t forget, though I’m a bit of a mutt I’m still British, and we’re not as fussy about the C-word as you Americans are. Cunt.” I snorted through a laugh as I enunciated. “Fuck my wet, juicy cunt, big boy.”
He laughed too. “Be careful what you wish for, beautiful.”
Then he did just that.

The next two days were two of the best of my entire life. Between breakfast in bed, the couple’s massage, and gourmet dining, I forgot about everything except Eden. Her sassy mouth, sharp wit, and sweet laughter made me feel whole for the first time. The sex was out of this world. The more I showed her, the more she wanted to try. This morning I’d wrapped my fingers around her throat while I fucked her from behind and she’d practically sobbed in protest when I’d removed my hand. She was as wild as I was, and I was here for it.
Every damn time we made love she stole another piece of my heart, and I knew the time was coming to tell her about Kristy.
I’d married her because we’d thought we had no other choice, and at eighteen it had seemed like marriage—the real kind, with someone you wanted to spend your life with—was eons away. I’d never imagined finding someone like Eden at this stage of my life. I was only twenty-four. I’d thought I had a decade before I’d be ready to fall in love.
But here we were, five weeks or so since the day we’d met, and I wanted to throw myself at her feet and beg her to give me the time I needed to sort out my situation.
“Are we going to the lodge for that spirit tasting thing?” Eden asked, standing in the doorway of our cabin.
She looked good enough to eat in tight, platinum-colored ribbed leggings and a deep emerald tunic with a plunging neckline. Her jacket was over her arm, and she waved an impatient hand. “Aren’t women supposed to be the ones who take forever to get ready?”
“I was eating your pussy like six minutes ago,” I said, pretending to scowl.
She rolled her eyes. “It’s been at least half an hour, don’t be a baby. Let’s go.”
“It’s cold,” I said, grabbing my leather jacket. “I thought you wanted to stay in bed?”
“Yes but getting shit-faced before we come home and letting you fuck me some more sounds like fun too. We haven’t had drunk sex yet.”
“Well, by all means.” I followed her to the door. “Hang on, forgot my phone, and I want to take pictures of you getting shit-faced.”
“Blah blah, I’m ignoring you.” She disappeared out the door as I grabbed my phone off the nightstand.
A second later I heard her scream and a thump.
“Eden!” I ran to the door and found her at the bottom of the steps. “Fuck!” I jumped down, squatting beside her. “You okay? Eden? Babe, talk to me.”
“Lost my balance,” she whispered, lifting her hand to rub the back of her head. “I think I hit my head.”
“Oh, shit. Okay, I got you.” I quickly lifted her in my arms and carried her back inside. I put her on the nearest chair and called the front desk, telling them we’d had an accident. They said they would send someone to look at it and determine if she needed to go to a hospital, as well as bring a first aid kit.
As soon as I hung up, I ran to the bathroom to grab a towel and put it against the back of her head.
“I’m so bloody clumsy,” she whispered, tears filling her eyes.
“You’re on crutches,” I said gently. “I wish you’d waited for me.”
“It’s just three steps, and I did them yesterday.” She pulled the towel away from the back of her head; it was covered in blood.
“You might need stitches, babe.”
She burst into tears. “I don’t want to go to another hospital.”
“Okay, shh.” I squatted down on my haunches in front of her. “I’m going to take care of you, okay? But we need to make sure you don’t need stitches. Come on, don’t cry.”
“I’ve ruined our trip, and now I have to call my father to tell him why I’m going to charge what will probably be several thousand dollars on my credit card.”
“You don’t have to call your dad,” I said, putting the towel back against her head. “I’ll take care of everything. Okay? Hey, look at me. Everything is fine. We don’t have to call your dad. I can handle it.”
Someone from the resort came to the door, and after assessing the cut on the back of her head they called someone to drive us to a local clinic instead of the hospital. It would probably only need a few stitches, but it was better to get them instead of risking infection since it would be hard to have a bandage on the back of her head.
Eden cried again, burying her face in my shoulder as we waited for someone from the resort to drive us to the clinic.
“It’s okay,” I soothed, holding her tightly. “It’s just a couple of stitches. Not a big deal. You know how many stitches I’ve had over the years?”
“You’re a hockey player! I’m just stupid.”
“Hey.” I lifted her chin, peering into her eyes. “You’re not stupid. You’re on crutches and lost your balance. Don’t talk about yourself like that.”
“I just can’t believe I’ve fallen again.”
“You didn’t fall when you broke your ankle—you were dropped. There’s a difference.”
“Don’t let them shave my head,” she said, starting to cry all over again.
“I won’t. I promise.” I hated seeing her cry and would have done almost anything to trade places with her.
The protector in me always lurked beneath the surface, but with Eden it was right here, out in the open for everyone to see. Including her.
Could she see it?
My feelings?
My need to take care of her?
The fact that I’d fallen in love with her?
It was a long afternoon, but in the end, Eden didn’t get stitches, just a few of those butterfly bandage things after they’d cleaned the wound. It was deep but small, and they’d told her not to wash her hair for a few days and maybe to see her own doctor when we got home. She’d fallen asleep when we got back to our cabin, and I’d ordered something to eat, hoping the aromas would rouse her.
She got out of bed looking so delightfully tousled I couldn’t help but smile.
“There you are. How are you feeling? Any headache or anything?”
“No.” Her smile was soft as she hobbled over to me. Instead of sitting in the chair opposite me, she got on my lap and nestled into my chest. “The cut is sore to the touch, but nothing else.”
“I’m glad.” A feeling of contentment washed over me. Even after our crazy afternoon I was happy to be sitting here in a cabin in the mountains with my girl on my lap, a fire roaring in the fireplace, and maybe a nice bottle of wine since they’d said they didn’t think she had a concussion. I’d eventually get restless and bored if we lived here full-time, but right now I couldn’t think of anywhere else I could want to be. Or anyone else I wanted to be with.
“I’m sorry you got hurt today,” I told her softly, trailing my lips across her cheek. “But I hope you’re still happy you came away with me.”
“I’m so happy to be here with you,” she said. “I’d like to stop having accidents around you, but otherwise, everything is perfect. You’re perfect.”
Guilt washed over me.
I was far from perfect, and we still hadn’t talked.
This didn’t feel like a good time to do it either.
She was tired and half-asleep in my arms. She’d had a traumatic afternoon, her second since coming to the States, and I wanted her memories of our first trip together to be good ones. If I dropped the “I’m married but it’s not what you think” bombshell on her tonight, it could potentially ruin it for both of us.
“I’m not perfect,” I told her. “But I’d like to think I’m trying.”
“No one is literally perfect. I think it comes down to being perfect for each other, you know? You get me, and I think I get you. Or at least I’m starting to. We’re still so new, but is it weird that I feel like I’ve known you a lot longer than five weeks or whatever it’s been?”
“I feel the same way. It’s been fast, but it doesn’t feel that way to me either. It’s been very organic.”
“Organic. I like that word.”
“You hungry, baby doll? You seem tired?”
“I’m a little hungry. But I’m too comfortable to move right now.”
“Okay. You let me know when you’re ready.” I kissed the top of her head.
We sat there like that for about fifteen minutes, and her slow, steady breathing told me she’d dozed off again. I slowly got to my feet with her in my arms and carried her to the bed. I tucked her in and took a moment to just look at her.
Eden was beautiful. That was a given. But she was so much more than that. It was hard to put into words. Adjectives like smart and funny were a cliché, and Eden was no cliché. She was educated and well-traveled, so there was always something interesting to talk about. She didn’t know a lot about hockey but had made it a priority to learn, which meant a lot to me even though it wasn’t mandatory in my book. The sex was incredible, but there was an added level of intimacy because of what it made me feel on the inside instead of just the physical part.
She was the whole damn package.
And I was going to lose her if I wasn’t careful.
My phone buzzed, and I reached for it with a sigh.
My brother.
Just what I needed.
JOHN: I’m going to be in town the week of the tenth. I see there are two games that week. Do you have a preference which one I come to?
DECKER: Nope. You can come to both if you want. Are you going to bring guests?
JOHN: I don’t think so. Most of my colleagues don’t know my brother plays hockey.
Oh, nice.
DECKER: All right. I’ll get you tickets for both games, and if you change your mind about bringing someone, let me know.
JOHN: Excellent. See you next week.
I closed the text program and put the phone down.
Now I had a whole new set of problems.
How the hell was I going to keep John and Eden apart while simultaneously making sure none of my teammates said anything about my having a girlfriend? As far as John knew, I was happily married to my childhood best friend. Everyone assumed she commuted back and forth to Vegas to see me, and we made a handful of perfunctory appearances in Michigan in the off-season.
