As all the men who’d been serving had been trying to not hurt her, her aggressiveness had been borderline assault.

Her chest lifting from her harsh breathing, holding up another dish that would soon turn into weapon she glared at Grant. “Take me back!” she demanded angrily, her eyes flashing. “I don’t care who you are! Take me back!”

Growling, Grant felt his patience reaching its snapping point. “…Listen-,” “No, you listen!” She snapped, lifting her chin even as Grant loomed over her. She poked him in the chest with the bowl, “You will take me back to Ahmose, or I’m going to slam this pretty little bowl into the side of your head!”

His eyes widening at her show of bravery, Grant felt a bit of his anger simmer down. And retreating he gave her his back, “…Calm down, little tiger. When your man comes for you we’ll let you out.”

He didn’t flinch when the bowl smashed into the corner of the doorway, before he shut the door. The smashing sound of the bowl was followed by growl of anger that would do a real tiger proud.

Shaking his head, he gave pat to the guardsman shoulder before continuing up the main floor. Entering the coms room, he met Altons glance.

Alton seeing his humor quirked a questioning brow, “What’s funny?”

“Our captive, she’s a handful.” He pointed to a healing cut on his face, “She’s not happy with her quarters.”

Spotting this Alton shook his head, turning his focus back to the glowing board in front him. He was surprised that they hadn’t yet been attacked. But it could be she’d just become the Elders match. But he wouldn’t relax till he had the Elder on his doorstep and could learn what he could from him. Too many graves of their kind had been disrupted and bodies stolen, and who ever had been doing it had to be stopped.

Narrowing his eyes, Alton patiently waited.

The minute Ahmose finished speaking with the Criminisi, before him he reopened the channels with his Emorisa he immediately felt a spike of ice shoot through his arm. Her fear felt like a sickness, and he was immediately flooded with the sensation of anger and frustration, also her terror at the idea that those who’d taken her, would use her to get him.

Rising, he caused Hawk and his brother Mino to stop talking midsentence. Their eyes focusing on him, both males stiffened at his look of fury,

Rising, Hawk asked him what was wrong.

Ahmose, seeing in his mind’s eye the face of the one who’d tried to take his Emorisa previously growled. “An interloper has taken that which he shouldn’t,” Refocusing on the two men, he announced, “I must leave.”

Before either man could stop him, he turned away disappearing right before their eyes.

Mino and Hawk looked at each other, before Mino simply shook his head.

The structure was made of solid stone, it rose giant, grey and ugly in the center of the large field. A single rode led to it and away, otherwise the structure seemed impenetrable.

It was as if the one who wanted entry wasn’t one of ancient race that had one point had been considered a god.

Light cracked against the side once more, as Ahmose sought entry, the barrier surrounding the structure fluxed with a bright white light challenging the golden spark from Ahmose. Gritting his teeth, he forced his will, but the barrier only seemed to melt before it hardened. Pushing back against the yellow light.

A whistle caught his attention, his golden gaze jerked up to meet the taunting gaze of the interloper. He grinned at him, his blonde hair loose and sans leather jacket. He lifted the hand Ahmose had cut off, “Hi.”

His grin faltered when a spike of light slammed into the barrier, caught in the nanosecond that Ahmose had shot it towards him. He tilted his chin up, seeming to acknowledge Ahmose’s ability.

“Impressive, but if you want to get past this baby,” he motioned the floating wisp of white light. “You’re going to have to put this on,” he lifted a band of iron colored metal. He waved it back and forth, “Otherwise not only will you be stuck out there, but you’re Amouri will be stuck in here.” He lifted the band lightly, his eyes holding a wicked glint. “It’s up to you. Want to play safe or…”

He trailed off pursing his lips.

Ahmose sorely wished to crush his neck, but if what he said was true he would spend an entire day trying to break the force field that protected this building. Wasting the energy, he could be using to rescue Rachael. Baring his teeth, he lowered his hand the buzzing yellow light dissipating immediately.

“Good, ancient,” the taunting males voice made his skin itch.

He flickered, before appearing by Ahmose’s side clapping the band onto Ahmose’s arm. He flickered away avoiding the punch Ahmose had thrown at his face. “Tsk, tsk and here I thought you’d lost your bite.”

Ahmose stared at him stonily, not saying anything as the man hopped back and forth. Appearing then disappearing like a child.

“Follow me,” he called as he continued towards the white barrier that opened a slit large enough for the two of them to enter.

Having little choice, he did, and felt the sensation of walking through a waterfall. The white light had been misting, moving and conforming like water. The vision of the large structure was replaced with a white building, where people milled about each focused on their specific tasked. Ahmose was impressed, these people had a Kehmet’s of great power here.

Those who walked around glanced at Ahmose, but he could see no flicker of surprise or fear. Each sent him a nod of respect, seeing this Ahmose also noticed the flecks of gold in their eyes. Children of Kehmets, and the blood here wasn’t weakened, most of those here had to have been birthed from an Emorisa.

“Here,” the annoying one, had lead them to what appeared to be the main entrance way. Where a male with silvery eyes, met Ahmose stare boldly. He was handsome as all Kehmet males were, but something about him spoke of ice and mountains.

He greeted Ahmose, putting his hand out. “Alton, clan of Wolfe.”

Grasping his arm in the Kehmet greeting, his nodded. “Ahmose, Clan of Hawk.”

Alton released his arm and glanced to his brother who stood leaning against the door jam, “My cousin, Grant. I apologize for his behavior from before his blood runs a bit hotter than what would keep him safe.”

Not bothering to disagree with Alton. Ahmose instead said, “Where is my Rachael?”

Alton smirk turned into a smile, a cunning smile that Ahmose knew he had to be weary of. The band that tightened on his wrist had made him feel powerless immediately.

“I’ll gladly lead you to her, but,” the wolfish look came to his features, “if I do will you listen to what it is I have to say?”

Thinking it over, Ahmose weighed the male before him. While he would have preferred to take his woman and leave these young Kehmets choking on their blood. He would gain nothing from their destruction, instead he would most likely gain the wrath of their parents. Who he knew must still remain, as it was very rare for a matched pair to die before their thousandth year.

Also, if these men had any idea how he’d come to be pulled form his crypt and in the middle of the sea on a ship. It was best for him to learn as much as he could. Especially with his Emorisa’s safety in the balance. He gave a jerky nod. “I will listen to your story.”

The cunning smile shifted to one of welcome, “Follow me.”

Soon after they were making their way through white walls that gave a view of the outside from within. The blue sky hovered over them, before it statically switched to a menu for that day.

Ahmose didn’t flinch at the technology, instead his mind was focused on returning to his Emorisa’s side. So, he was startled when they turned the corner, only to see a man getting hit with a bar and hitting the ground in a slump.

All three males watched as a cursing Rachael came out of the room muttering under her breath. Her dress covered in what may have been food, and as she frisked the male lying face down she pulled his handgun from his strap and expertly fiddled with it before pulling the top. The click made all three men flinch, when she turned suddenly lifting the weapon with an expert pose.

Her eyes narrowed and deadly, but as her eyes finally took in who stood before her.

“Ahmose?!” She was suddenly running towards him, gun forgotten as she jumped him wrapping her arms around his shoulders. Her body trembled as he held her, finally shaken from his surprise he rubbed his hand down her back.

“Sh, it’s okay…it’s okay my Amouri.”

She sniffled pulling away from him, she glared at him her eyes filled with anger and relief. “Don’t you ever leave me alone again!” she commanded.

He gently smiled realizing how afraid she’d been, he could feel the shadow of it but now he knew she’d suppressing most of it in an effort to remain logical and pull her own escape.

  “Yes, Amouri.”

She threw herself back against him, keeping a tight hold of him.

A throat was gently cleared, and his Emorisa didn’t hesitate to pull away from him and pointing her gun at the Grant male. He smirked, lifting his hands slowly.

“Oh no-, don’t shoot.” Ahmose wondered if the man lived on taunting others.

  ~LBK~

It took some convincing, but Ahmose was finally able to get Rachael to lower the gun, but only after she’d made a point by slamming the bottom into Grant’s head. The man winced, but otherwise maintained his hyena like grin.

When he thought she would try to make him loose it, Ahmose reached forward wrapping a hand around her waist pulling her soft body against his.

Turning his attention to Alton, he said “Lead us.”

Alton nodded, and quickly lead them to a room that had been seat up to appear like conference room. With seven chairs on each side, and large table in the center.

Rachael took it all in, realizing that she’d been taken by some pretty legit people. As they entered the room, she moved to take her own seat. But Ahmose seemed to have other ideas, the man dragged her over to the head of the table and sat down pulling her into his lap. A bit embarrassed she elbowed him and muttered. “Don’t think I’m not mad at your for leaving me to get nabbed.”

He leaned forward, brushing his cheek against hers. A silent apology that oddly managed to work on her even though she was known to hold a grudge for a long time. She flicked her gaze to the other two men, but both seemed accustomed to Ahmose’s behavior. Which made her wonder if this was the norm for a Kimit? Kehmet?

He wrapped his hands around her waist nuzzling until his attention was grabbed by Alton’s next words.

“First and foremost, I would like to apologies for my cousin,” Alton sent the Grant guy an irritated look. “He was too eager to battle an ancient and forgot his manners.”

Ahmose didn’t verbally acknowledge his apology but lifted his chin. Alton continued.

“He was sent so that I may inquire into your captivity. We have been noticing for the last 30 years that someone, or something has been buying and breaking into crypts of Kehmets, at first it was dismissed as a grave robber and half the time it was, but soon we learned that there was a group of people employing these man to steal corpses from specific graves, those belonging to Kehmets who’d all chosen to sleep.”

Curious, Rachael asked, “Sleep? I mean I get that Ahmose…and you are all immortal?” At that Alton merely smiled patiently waiting for her to finish, “but how could you be mistaken for dead and buried without someone, anyone catching on?”

“If a Kehmet grows tired of life, he merely needs to grab a bit of Rhodium and stab it into his heart. He will immediately cease all functions,” Grant answered, tapping his fingers against the top of the table. “Most Ancients chose this wrought, when they lost their Amouri or Emorisa. Most having sought their Amouri for all their lives, couldn’t see themselves continuing on without her.”

Rachael blinked at that. Then that had been what Ahmose had done, he’d killed himself to rest beside his Amouri. Letting his body remain in a pose of death, until someone had stolen him from his beloved side. While gothicaly romantic, she couldn’t help feeling a bit of jealousy towards a woman she didn’t know. To have a man love you to that extent was a wonderful thing to have.

“Amouri, Emorisa…what exactly is the difference?” Rachael asked. Still not to clear on what an Amouri or …Emorisa was.

Alton glanced at Ahmose, who gave slight shake of his head.

Clearing his throat, Alton briefly explained, “Emorisa are changed, and become like their mates. Immortal, with a few abilities. While an Amouri remains human.”

“Okay, so if a girl becomes immortal she’s considered an Emorisa.” Rachael nodded, her mind moving to her next question. Since she wasn’t planning on becoming an Emorisa she didn’t think it meant anything to her.

“So-,” she frowned, “these people have been taking these men and doing what with them?”

“That’s what we’re trying to figure out,” Alton answered, a look of frustration coming to his face. “We’ve been tracking their actions, but so far despite being as…gifted, as we are. They seem to have figured out how to allude us well. Also, since we only learned of them 30years ago we’ve been playing catch up.” He turned his attention to Ahmose, “You are the first Ancient to escape and the first to be brought here…is there anything you can tell us of what happened to you?”

For a long moment Ahmose didn’t say anything, instead his expression thoughtful; he brushed his fingers along his Amouri’s arm. He couldn’t remember much, aside from the pain from trying to breathe once he’d escaped the metal box. The feeling of cold wind slashing his skin, and then the metal piercing his flesh. He shared this, and where he’d thought the information would be nearly useless the look on Alton’s face showed he’d shared something important.

“Ships,” Alton glanced at Grant, “No wonder there was not singular location they are transporting their bodies on the ships.”

In Ahmose explaining to Alton, Rachael had remained quiet but now she spoke up. Her mind, which had always been good adding things together spoke. “…Ahmose said he’d had a hard time breathing even after he’d gotten out of the box, is there may be a gas…or something that would keep the others from waking up?”

Grant frowned at that, “No…the only thing that can weaken or harm a Kehmet is Rhodi-!” his eyes widened at that, “they’ve made Rhodium into a gas!”

Rachael nodded, unsure if her assumption was correct. “Once they take the bodies, they remove the piece from their heart and gas them which keeps them in the sleeping state.”

“But what are they doing it for?” Alton added, “What could they possibly do with the bodies of sleeping Kehmets?”

All four of those in the room remained quiet, until Rachael thought of something. “I-,” “No.”

Rachael stiffened, and both Grant and Alton looked at the Kehmet who’d growled his order.

Rachael jerked her head around to glare at him. “You don’t even know what I was going to say!”

“I do.” Ahmose said, his face hard. “You were thinking to use yourself as bait, I will not allow it.”

“C’mon! This isn’t the dark ages, if I want to help I can.” Rachael argued, “Plus I can’t simply do nothing, knowing that these people are being taken and being used for god knows what. I’m sure you guys can save me, plus I wouldn’t be the bait.”

Ahmose who would have preferred to rise and leave with Rachael that minute, felt only frustration as he already knew his Emorisa would not be happy if he did such a thing.

She smirked, looking from him to Alton. “You would be.”

All three men looked at her blankly. Seeing this Rachael sighed, “I would be their bait in capturing Ahmose…c’mon! You all can’t been that slow.”

Rachael couldn’t help laughing when they all looked at her clearly insulted.

  Chapter Fourteen

The moment the three males realized that her plan wasn’t to simply walk into the enemy hands without some safety measure their expressions relaxed. Sure, she was making it up as she went, but Rachael figured that having been mined melded with Ahmose, and then dragged on the little adventure she could be the one to bring it all to its end.

At least that way once she returned to her normal life, she wouldn’t feel like she hadn’t done anything but get dragged around by him the entire time.

Later after Grant and Alton had excused themselves to look into whether or not her plan was feasible.

Rachael and Ahmose were left alone, and Rachael took that chance to remove herself from his lap.

Before she could utter a word, he observed her coolly with his toffee colored eyes. A glint of knowing that irritated her a bit. “You are upset with me, but Emorisa you are wrong to think you will be leaving me.” There wasn’t a question.

She nodded, rubbing her hands along her goose priced arms. “Yes, but I can’t fully blame you for it-, Wait?!” She had given him her back as she’d walked over to the window to look out. But now she’d was staring at him blankly, “Who’s your Emorisa?”

Ahmose motioned towards her, and Rachael shook her head. “No, I’m not.”

“You are, Rachael,” he reached out towards her, but she retreated.

“How can I be?!” Rachael couldn’t believe it, wasn’t something like that supposed to come with flashing light, sirens…hell a motherfucking ritual. “When did this happen?!”

Ahmose gave her such a look, that Rachael could hear loud in clear the smutty, dirty thought he had. Along with a bright red sticker giving her date and time.

“Oh, God!” she groaned, wishing a pit would open up around her. “Fuck me, fuck me so much.” She muttered.

Inhaling deeply, Rachael crossed her arms “No, no I won’t let you distract me.” She gave him her back. “You left me alone, and I’m pissed that you did. When they grabbed me, I was so scared. I didn’t know what was going to happen to me. And I didn’t know if I would ever see my family again.” Her nails dug into her arm, as the fear from before rushed back.
