All eyes turned to him, some held defiance others confusion.

“We have slept for a long time, Brothers …Sisters, we have let the human world move forward without us and as you see, our people have continued. Respecting choice they left us to our rest, but an unknown enemy would now awaken us and use for their selfish reasons. The era of rest has come to its end! It is time to Rise…Rise heik ki vah tu!

All those who stood in the room flinched when the ancients all shouted, “Heik Ki Vah tu!” (Rise Death, we have come!)

Rachael sleepy voice intruded, “Well…that was impressive.” She lifted a hand and brushed his jaw. “love you.” She muttered before dropping her hand and falling asleep once more.

Ahmose chuckled as he retreated from the room, to return to the boat. Having full confidence that Alton, and Hawk would gather their enemies so that they may be judged.

  ~LBK~

Four days had passed, and Rachael was still trying to piece together everything that had happened to her in a span of two weeks. Which was why she was currently waiting for her mom to be released from the hospital in Berlin.

Rubbing her sweaty hands against her jeans, she silently assured herself that her mother wouldn’t cause a scene. Her mother was a woman of education and class, she wouldn’t do anything that would draw the eyes of the general public or make Rachael feel like she was six.

  She had been wrong.

It all started with a bang. Her mother, Rolanda Watson marched out of the hospital like the dogs of hell were nipping at her heels. The minute her dark eyes landed on Rachael her expression hardened as she stopped before her. The duffel she’d brought with her slung over her shoulder, her stance was easy and not threatening.

You wouldn’t know that her mother was fifty-two, if you didn’t ask. She had a youthful face, which often had people mistaking her genial attitude as easy. Nothing about her mother was easy. The woman had found her second wind and had hardened her body to the point that even her daughters were envious at times.

“Rachael Carey Watson,” her mother drew her name out. Using every bit of southern twang, she possessed in her body, she crossed her arms flicking a glance to the black sedan that was parked behind Rachael. “My eldest, who decided to get dragged into something big, and so dangerous that her momma and her uncle couldn’t even protect her.”

Rachael smiled awkwardly, “Now-, mom…” “Don’t you, ‘now mom’ me!” Her mother snapped, moving her hands to her hips.

“I’ve enough issues with your two sisters, one barely out of her crack pipe marriage and the other whose, ‘Finding-herself’ out of my three girls I didn’t think you would be the one having me flying across the damn ocean, sick with worry!” Rachael knew her mom was getting ready to lecture her and knowing her mother’s endurance it wouldn’t end soon.

“If it wasn’t for the fa-!” “Mom! I can explain,” Rachael rushed in, frantic to get her mother in the car and at least in a place where people wouldn’t be shooting them weird looks. “I swear I’ll tell you everything, just. Get. In. The. Car.”

The look her mother sent her at that statement, Rachael she knew she was lucky five minutes later when her mother actually got in the car with her.

A few hours later, they sat in a private room of a hotel in the city. Her mother had listened to her story quietly, not interrupting or anything. Rachael had appreciated it, even when she’d felt embarrassed at some parts.

“So, you found some dick in the islands of Italy, and lost your fucking mind?”

  “Mom?!”

“What?” her mom exclaimed, shooting her an amused look. “Isn’t that what happened? So, now what? Are you going to stay here, or…?” Her mother trailed off shooting Rachael a heavy look. “Because I am not about to let you marry some man you barely know.”

“Um,” Rachael scratched her brow, feeling her cheeks heat as she avoided her mother’s eyes. “Well, hrm, the thing is I’m kind of, sort of already married.” Rachael had, had hard time grasping that her and Ahmose were a forever thing, not a temporary thing. Not that she was too angry about it, he was everything she wanted in a partner. Though, she’d actually demanded a collar back when Alton had explained why he was everything she wanted. And she was still working through the idea of immortality.

Which is why it had taken her four days to come to Berlin, she’d wanted to learn about the Ahmose outside of the one who delved in her mind. He hadn’t been the least pleased with it, explaining to her that he loved the man she’d turned him into just as much as he loved her. Though what they had, and shared was a lot deeper than love, their relationship held a oneness that couldn’t be found aside from a Kehmet and Amouri relationship. They were “goals” apparently.

But at her mom’s look she quickly tried to explain all this, only to be cut off by said woman.

“No, you’re not.” Her mother’s words held a ring of finality to it, “I wasn’t at a wedding, nor did a man come to my house, and ask me for my daughter hand so…no, you are not married. No matter, what mind sharing thingy you got going on.”

“Then I shall ask for it now-,” What happened next would be burned into Rachael’s memory forever.

Ahmose appeared from thin air as he was known to do, and her mother pulled her favorite weapon from her holster and greeted him with it pressed to his skull. For a long tense second Rachael thought her mom would still shoot him. Instead her mother surprised her by lifting her weapon, a certain spark coming to her eyes.

“Hmm, well,” she looked over her shoulder at Rachael, “At least he’s cute, nothing like you’re last one.” holstering her weapon she gave Ahmose’s body a once over, “Yeah, now I know why you went all Laura croft.”

Groaning, Rachael rubbed her forehead only to add a groan when her mother said.

“So, I’m Rachael’s mother, and boy do I have a huge, huge amount of questions for you my boy.”

  Epilogue

  The lights were too bright.

The ground was hard and pact, like the cement that had held him bound.

He staggered through the streets seeking something familiar but found nothing.

He stilled, feeling the sensation of eyes on his back. Jerking around, red clashed with brown.

Sucking in a deep breath, Rachael found herself sweating and pulled into Ahmose’s embrace. Her chest heaving as she desperately tried to suck in air. Her shaking hands gripped at Ahmose’s arm.

The apartment in Atlanta they had settled into, was one of the more expensive places to leave. As Ahmose had eagerly found all that was his, and immediately gone to work regaining his wealth much to his Grandsons annoyance, since that meant Hawcrian had no real need for his illegal work. Though Rachael was sure the man hadn’t fully quit. Was it odd she was considered his grandmother? Yeah. Weird.

“Rachael, what is it? What ails you?” Ahmose asked, rubbing her back trying to calm her.

Inhaling deeply, Rachael stared fixedly on the mirror across from them. The cold sensation slowly abating. “He’s here.”

Ahmose stiffened, knowing but hoping he was wrong in his assumption. “Who is here?”

“Diablo,” she whispered, “he has come to America.”

  The End.

  Dear Readers…

This has been an interesting write, why? Because I see this book as a new beginning for me as an author. Not only did I get help from many people, such as Beta Readers and Editors, Keely and Boldstrokes editing, I also spent a lot more time on it development wise. So, I hope everyone enjoyed this new world I decided to invite you all into. Though I can’t say it wasn’t fun creating it, I’d been plotting on it for about two years. So, even thought it’s short I hope it made you laugh and a bit hot and bothered.

P.S. Be sure to leave a review.
