The Alpha By Her Side, page 16
There had to be another war, but this one was not going to be as bloody. As far as he was concerned, only two people had to die. Unfortunately, those two people were his parents. He was going to be the one to make sure that they actually paid for their crimes as publicly as they possibly could. He also wanted to dissolve the council as much as possible. It was only right for the people in the local areas to make the laws. At no point were they ever going to make any sense otherwise. Gabriel didn’t have a clue as to what happened on any one of the continents where their people were. Customs change period and he was willing to bring in a new era for their kind.
Chapter 45
The two spent the days in the cabin. They learned more about each other, and they also learned about the past and the future. Desiree could see both when she looked through the timelines to a spot. She knew the future wasn’t written completely, but she was glad to see that they were there and together.
“How many kids do you want?” she asked as she laughed to herself. She had already seen them in the future and she knew the answer already. She knew most everything for their future already. She also knew because she knew that some things could change. They were not set in stone as a fixed point.
“I don’t know one?” he said as he looked at her. “That is normally what the royal families have with maybe the exception of certain things.”
“Just one?” she said with a smile and he knew that she was really asking him and not wanting the political answer. She wanted what he really wanted as an answer. At least to know what he wanted. If it was just one, really, he would be surprised at the end of their lives.
“Okay, I want as many as we can have, and you not be hurt.” Gabriel said as he smiled. He let out a sigh as he said it. He had to make sure he was completely open with her. He was surprised that she could even look at him at times. With everything they had learned about what went on and the families involved, he wouldn’t blame her for hating him.
“That is more honest.” She said with a smile. “Well, we have a few in the future. Those are the things that are not written in stone. Though things may happen to change a few details, we are set piece of history.”
“A few?” he asked with a grin.
“A few.” She said as she looked at him.
“I think what I saw was only a few years ahead of us. You were the main alpha, and you were restructuring the way we do things.” Desi said as she looked at him. “You and our son were there doing that, but he wasn’t more than five.”
“And?” Gabe prompted.
“The others were there as well.” Desi said with a smile.
“And how many of our children were there?” Gabe asked.
“Four others.” She replied.
“Four?” he asked. “So five children altogether?”
“And another on the way.” She smiled.
“Desi.” He whispered as he looked at her. “You are telling me we have a pup every year?”
“I think so.” She smiled as he swept her up in his arms.
“Also that in five or so years we have a son?” he asked.
“Yes.” She replied. “He looks like you.”
“And he is near five?” Gabe asked with even more of a grin.
“Yes.” she said as she looked into his eyes and knew what he was thinking.
“Then maybe we should work on creating him, don’t you think?” Gabe asked.
“Maybe we should.” She replied, as she already knew that he was going to love her until the world stopped spinning. This was something that she would never be able to get enough of. Though the words had never been spoken, he showed her every chance he got how he truly felt about her.
A few hours later, they laid on the couch together, knowing they were not going to be disturbed by even the others, who seemed like they were trying to get the two to breed. Though he didn’t want to think of it like that, he also knew they also had their own agenda. They wanted his parents gone.
He couldn’t blame them. Desi had told him of many things that his parents had gone back on. How his ancestors had promised the others many things as well, but they never followed through. He wondered why they had even let him be born.
When he talked about that fact, Desi smiled. “Gabe, you do realize they can see through time, correct?”
“Yes.” He replied.
“Then you know they helped my line of ancestors and myself for reasons.” She spoke softly as she looked him in the eye.
“Yes.”
“Then why can’t you realize they let all of that happen so you would be born?” she asked.
“What?” he asked as he looked at her and then kissed her nose.
“Gabe, they knew I would be here. The other child who was also a full werewolf. I am both. They knew I would be here, and they knew I was going to need someone like you to protect me in the long run. A warrior with a good heart.” Desi replied and Gabe knew then he was as destined in this life as she was. They were supposed to happen. All the doubt. All the feelings faded away to the point of him realizing that they were a fixed point in history. They had to happen. This was more than just something good for him. He knew now he was important to time and their kind without just being his parents’ son.
They needed each other as they were supposed to be together. They pulled their strength from each other. That was one of the reasons the others were hiding them. They needed the young creatures to find the bond that should have always been there. Though the fact they had been separated was not their fault and it would only serve to strengthen the bond these two would have in the long run. They were going to be the strongest of their kind.
Desi was already. She just didn’t know it. He threw out the terms he had grown up with. “I wonder if the others have a ceremony like we do for becoming untied.”
“You mean like a wedding?” Desi asked.
“Yes.” He said as he looked at her. “I think that we should commit to each other under their rules and not the werewolf ones.”
“Why?” she asked.
“Because we owe them more than we do any werewolf one.” He said as he grinned.
“Is this you asking me?” she asked as she turned and looked at him.
“Yes.” Gabe replied as he moved to look her in the eye. “I want to commit myself to you in every way. Not as alpha and Luna. Not as the leaders of our clans. I want to have you as my partner always Desi. My full partner. I accept you as you are and even the other part of you. I want that in my life forever.”
“Then it is done.” Desi said, and she smiled.
“What?” he asked.
“That is, it.” Desi said. “According to the others, only a real pledge to each other is the most binding thing. A ceremony takes too much, and it is not about the commitment the two must have to each other. We are married by the way of the others now.”
Chapter 46
“That’s it?” he asked as he looked at her, knowing there had to be more to the ceremony for the timeless creatures. It couldn’t be that simple, though he knew that was it. They were that simple in the long run. The idea that they were long-lasting creatures that might even be really immortal because no one ever knew how long they lasted on this plane of existence. It could easily be forever, and no one would ever know. They didn’t interact with many species, they just did what they were supposed to. As far as anyone knew, they helped keep the balance of the planet, but no one really knew they were there. They were the guardians of time and things that happened within any timeline.
“That’s it.” Desi said as she looked at him. There was nothing else she could say as he had to understand by their standards they were also already married. The moment they mated, it was a pact between them. The more powerful the encounter, the more they were bonded. They both knew that they were bonded beyond just the ceremony that was there at their beginning. Love wasn’t something that most had a chance at having. However, Desi could see that they were different. Gabriel showed all the signs of being protective and possessive when it came to her. Those were factors of love. Desi didn’t know what it was either, but she hoped they could have it all.
“How simple.” Gabe said with a chuckle. “Leave it to them to simplify something like this.”
“Well, at the base, it is the best way to be. Simple. When it comes to your mate for the rest of your lives together, a declaration is the easiest way to go.” Desi responded as he walked over to where she was and then wrapped her in his arms.
“You are correct.” He said as he looked down into her eyes. “Now that we have checked off two different types of committing to each other, I think we should move upstairs to the loft for a little while.” Gabe said as he brushed some of her hair off her cheek.
“Why?”
“Because as much as I don’t mind the others coming and going anytime, they wish to, since they are the ones that are hiding us both and keeping you safe. I really don’t want them to come in right now while I am making love with you to really make all our dreams start.” He said with a deep chuckle.
“Gabe.” She spoke. Then she found herself up in his arms quickly as he continued to the smaller staircase that led to the small area they deemed their private area in the cottage. They both knew that they would not be bothered, but she sent a silent warning to the others that lived outside. It did seem that as she was close to the hive, she could do that. It was tapping into her basic nature.
That was her last thought for the rest of the day as the two spent the rest of the day in bed together. Though they were both worn out, he smiled at her as he continued to kiss her and then working them both up to a fever pitch that they both knew was not normal for their kind. The nice part was no one was around. They weren’t even really on the island anymore. They were in the void of time, though it seemed that they were there watching the sunsets off of the coast where the house normally was.
That was something they could stay there for all time and then return and take their places at the head of the kind of that they were. Later in the night, when they could think again, he started to understand what the plan was for the small little creatures.
“They are holding us here for a reason.” He said.
“They are.” She said with a smile.
“You knew?” he asked.
“That they want to avoid more bloodshed, yes. They do not like when things fight. They do not want any more death.” Desi said.
“My parents?” he asked.
“Are being dealt with in a different way.” She replied.
“How?” he asked.
“Magic.” She said. “Soon we will be called to move into our spots.”
“Our spots?” he asked.
“At the head of our clans. At the top as rulers of our kind.” She said as she looked at him. “You will be named the Alpha and me your Luna.”
“No.” He replied.
“No what?” she asked.
“You are not my Luna.” He said with a smile. “You are my alpha.”
“No one will buy that.” She said with a giggle.
“However, I do everything for you.” He said as he kissed her again and then decided to make sure that they could not think again for the rest of the night.
In the brightness of day, they knew their time was going to come to an end soon enough at the cabin. They knew they would have to join the ranks of the rest of their kind. They didn’t want to.
“I want to stay here where it is safe, and it is just the two of us.” Desi said one night as they knew they were there but at the same time they had no idea how long it had really been on the outside of the small cottage. It seemed they had been there for a month, maybe a little more.
That was when it hit him as he looked at her. He knew. He knew the real reason they were there it wasn’t to prevent a war. It wasn’t because he knew too much. The others wanted to make sure they left here as three.
Desi was already breeding. They would have their own child soon enough. That was what this was all about. Something they would have to fight for. He walked over to her and placed his hand on her abdomen. She was surprised, but then she seemed to understand all he knew as well. She looked up at him and his blue eyes. They stood there together, and he leaned down and kissed her hard.
“I will always protect you and our cub.” He whispered in her ear.
Chapter 47
That was a complete surprise that Gabe could figure out what was going on with Desi. It would seem that the others had completely taken over their life in one particular way. They wanted them to continue their lines. For whatever reason, the others were just as invested in the future as they were. He knew what the timeline said because Desiree had already told him that they would be there along with their children, and they would have taken over the entire island themselves. He didn’t know how he was going to accomplish what he actually wanted to accomplish when it came to abolishing the seven royal families. That wasn’t something that people were going to give up very easily, even though he knew that they could. They would have to be in a somewhat ceremonial position instead of an actual ruler. So much damage had already been done to their kind because the seven families were always going to be at each other’s throats to become alpha.
He had known the children of the other families his entire life as he had been brought up with them, except for his time apart from the island during the war. It was almost hilarious to him that he was sent off to Europe, and she was sent off to the Americas. and both of them were completely looked down upon because their parents had tried to save them. He probably knew deep down that other people realized what his parents had done and even though he had accepted it. It was still a huge issue that he was going to have to deal with when he took over for his family. Knowing that Desi was there next to him was going to be one of those things that was going to help him in the long run. She had had her complete life ripped away from her along with her bloodline birthright. By a fluke of nature, he had been able to find her even though he now knew that he was assisted by things that he didn’t want to see at the time. He was grateful that the others had pointed him in the right direction, probably more than once. He knew that everything had to be connected and one day he would be able to figure it out even more so than he already had.
The one thing that he always knew was that he didn’t want to be like his family. His mother had been pretty hands on with him as a child and even when he came back, she didn’t want to let him out of her sight. They only had one child and therefore it was all on game to make sure that their line continued. He would end up having to become alpha, so he was going to have to learn how to battle and how to also manipulate people into believing whatever he said. That he had learned at his father’s knee. Though he was never a good at it. He just simply didn’t want to have anything to do with trying to. He always thought that honesty was the best way to go. Even if he was making a difficult ruling, though, he was never actually allowed to do much of anything. It was almost like his parents had thought that they were almost immortal, which led him to believe that they were slightly delusional and everything that they had done. He didn’t really want to think that both of his parents were extremely horrible people. It was hard not to though after realizing that they had started a war and ended up killing their best friends.
He sat against the chair as he looked at her across the room as she made a simple dinner for the two of them to eat. That’s when the idea actually hit him that they had actually started the war to kill their friends. It seemed to that they were going to right from the start. This wasn’t something that he actually ever wanted to think about knowing that. Whatever, it was going to be a huge deal when he had to deal with his blood mate. He also realized that was part of it. His parents had killed his best friends and who were her parents and sent her away. It wasn’t his mother that had sent her away like he had been told to keep her protected. She had actually seen the timeline where it was her mother who had been the one to actually send the woman off the island. In the end, though, his mother had taken credit for it. The woman wanted to look good to the other people. She would have to talk, too. That was the reason Desi was never returned. She couldn’t be.
Everything that he had ever been told in his entire life had been a lie. Right from the start. The blood ceremony had been his parent’s idea. He knew now that it had to then some kind of coverup. They had been planning to do what they had done for years beforehand. Since they had gotten matched together. They were going to be the ones to rule their kind for the rest of existence. That meant one thing to him. He knew that the two options that were ahead of him were not what he ever wanted to think about. The war was supposed to completely take out all of their kind, which really didn’t make any sense to him, as his parents needed other werewolves to feel important because they were the first family. The other option was that they were going to be the ones to rule forever, which also didn’t make any sense because they were not immortal. They had the same lifespan as most humans. He had watched his parents’ age. He didn’t understand what the heck they were thinking or planning in the long run. The fact that they were now in the market to completely erase their own son by hunting him down was not something that he was willing to think about. They had already taken way too much from him and now he knew that he was going to have to battle with them in a way that they were much more experienced than him.
He looked at Desiree, who was cooking. He now had everything in his life the exact way that he had always dreamed it to be. There wasn’t anything else that was going on in his brain other than the fact that he was still celebrating the fact that the two of them were going to have a cub. Now he had everything in the world to fight for. His son would have a completely different world around him with two parents who actually cared about him and any other cub that came after him, as well as each other.
