The Alpha By Her Side, page 15
Chapter 42
A place with no time still had its own timeline. They knew the area that they were in was completely different and completely untamed in their own way. The others were a species that was beyond simple time and magic. They simply knew everything. They simply were timeless. They also had made an alliance with Desiree’s mother and, therefore, had completely changed Desiree to make sure that she would remain the same. She would survive no matter what. That also meant that their timeline was even different if they had to completely change everything.
Desiree was starting to get a complete overload of her senses at times because of the simple fact that she was one of them, but she was still not. Everything was swirling going past the cabin at times and she could actually see different lines inter merging in a way that she had never noticed before. The longer that she stayed in this particular vortex of space with no time, she was becoming increasingly more aware of what she actually was. She was very different from the normal person, or even werewolf. She was simply much more.
She knew one thing about herself and that had never changed or wavered. She was simply just a werewolf that had been touched by other creatures of the night that were never supposed to exist. The things that could possibly be called fairies in the human world. And she knew better than to ever cross them. She would have never asked for help from them by herself and she was almost grateful for the fact that her mother was the one that had to do it. They would come to the house, and they were just enter without ever making any noise. One by one they were to give her information, but only in their native tongue, which she couldn’t actually understand. It took hours for the information to unravel in her brain and then she realized that she must actually understand it, but her human side or her werewolf side this was not something that she could ever get away from. It simply was just there in front of her. She was going to have to learn how to deal with it, just like learning to deal with the fact that she was a werewolf Princess from one of the most admired families of all time. She was different.
She was also the next in line to the complete alpha. That was something that she had never actually understood. She didn’t want to be somebody’s Luna and, in a way, with Gabriel, she was never going to be that. They would be completely equal. She could already see the way that they both would end up ruling their kind through the different timelines that she could pass through. He didn’t quite understand it when she would just stare off into space that she was actually seeing the future or, in some cases, the past. Desi had already witnessed her parents’ murders, and she had already understood that there were things that she could never actually talk about. It was inherent. It was simply just one of the rules that she knew without even knowing the rules in the first place. She was just one of those people that understood the things that she wasn’t supposed to do. It had always been like that from the time that she had been raised and then she also realized that the woman who had raised her was the type of person that had followed the ways from years past. She wasn’t another or another sympathizer. She was simply just one of the ones who practiced the old ways.
That was something that Desiree didn’t quite understand at first, but now she did. Now she was also communicating with the others as well. She had done her job, and she was being punished for it, and the others were not going to take well to that. They had already made up their mind, and they had informed Desiree of what they were going to do if the woman was sentenced to an execution. She was supposed to be in the timeline still. They would have to act without her consent.
They also understood how Gabriel was a part of this. Though he had not been touched by them because of the connection between the two, he was always going to have a connection with them. That meant he was worth protecting as well. To the others, he was going to play a part in her life, and he was important.
Especially as he was the main protector of her. That was when one of the others accidentally let it slip that she should be expecting a child soon. Desiree had looked at the creature and didn’t know exactly what she had just said at first, but it was said in such a way that Desiree finally put the pieces together, and then she looked at Gabriel very quickly as the other disappeared. She knew that it was very possible that she might already be in a breeding way, though she wanted to believe that they still had time. Their particular child, their firstborn, would be the next in line after him. She had to wonder if he was going to be upset with the idea that their child could already be on their way. She was too young, as far as he was concerned. He was willing to wait, even though he had been the one to look for her for years. He had thought at first that it was just the simple thought that he wanted to find her. It wasn’t like that at all. It was a drive, a need. Something that he needed to have fulfilled with her by his side and now that she was, he had been content. Though things were always going to be difficult for the couple, it was one of those issues that they would have to work out. They were going to be exactly what they were. Together. A united front. If war actually came, they would be prepared.
Neither of them wanted that particular outcome to happen. Unfortunately, his parents had become so power hungry that they were willing to go after their own son. Which ultimately identified them as extremely dangerous since they had actually started the first war. Desiree was proof of that.
They both had accepted their roles in the next part of the history of their kind. Though it had not come to them easily. They had found their answers together. They needed the time, but the time had found them in many ways.
Chapter 43
She delved in and out of different timelines and memories of the times that were there. It was only a gift that she had just learned that she had as long as she was near where the others were. She sat out a window and it seemed that it was almost like a computer screen or a television playing some show that she had no idea what it was. For whatever reason, she asked the universe to show her things that were important. One of the things that she did as the universe and the others helped her steer passed through all of their issues throughout all of kind end time.
Desiree didn’t want to see everything. She didn’t want to see her parents’ deaths, even though the others had deemed it was necessary for her to actually see all of that. She hated the idea. She hated the idea even more when she actually saw what had gone on and who had been the perpetrator. She had seen the days leading up to it, including when her mother would hold her in her arms and know that she was going to die sooner rather than later. When the war had broken out, everybody was rushed to the main castle that was standing in the middle of the island. Desiree never actually wanted to see that castle again because she had seen what had happened there. One by one, different members of families that were important or executed in the hallways or in their own rooms. Desiree’s mother was one of the ones who had managed to escape to a more secluded area. That’s when she found the woman who would eventually raise her daughter.
“You must take her period. I don’t care what you have to do to keep her alive, but she has to remain alive.” Desiree’s mother said as she looked at the woman who was now in front of her. She handed a bundle that Desiree could now look into and saw that it was completely full of money. Her mother had been trying to protect her right from the beginning.
“Your Highness, I can’t take her. I don’t know if I could actually get her out of the castle without her being executed like everybody else. The Princess is already too well known for me to try to remove her from the council buildings.” the woman who had raised her said as she had looked at everything that was going around and that’s exactly when her mother pushed her into the other woman’s arms. They could hear the people coming closer.
“Take her and get her off this island. One day she will come back, and everything will be better. She will be the one to figure out everything. She will be the one we have all been waiting for. You will have to raise her in my stead. You need to make sure that she is a strong woman because she’s going to have to be to take on what she’s going to have to in the future. But understand that she is the most powerful of all of us. She needs a chance at life. Make sure that she has it.” Desiree’s birth mother sighed as she held on for just a moment more, and then she pushed the woman out the door. She kneeled down on the ground and looked around her, only to find small beings surrounding her.
“We know.” the other said to her as clear as day, knowing that in this particular memory it must be from her mother. Her mother had been able to actually talk to the others throughout her entire life. Their lines have been connected for years without anyone ever knowing. “We will watch over her period. We will stay with you until the end.”
“Please just make sure that she’s okay.” Desiree’s mother said as she looked at the small beings that were there. The woman was there in the stairwell and she had no concern for herself. She could only plead for her daughter.
“We will.” one of them said. “She is surrounded and will be for all time. One day she will come back. She will fulfill her destiny. Things will take time, but she will be safe. I promise you that from one to another.”
“Thank you.” Desiree’s mother said as she stayed there, kneeling on the ground. She turned around just enough to look at the door that was opening. The small beings that were there flew high, but they were still there. Their presence was there in the room and though the other person who had just walked in didn’t seem to realize that they were being watched from high above the room period, nobody actually wanted to be there because they had already seen this happen. This werewolf that was in front of them was a part of their line from a very long go. That was what made them connected and why they had also helped the young girl. The infant that was no more and then a year old or even less because they had no idea of time on this existence. They helped her for the same reason that they would help one of their own. Their bloodlines were connected and thus they would always protect what was theirs. All of the others wanted to act, but they knew this had to happen. In any of the lines that could have emerged from this incident, there was only one. It was a fixed point in history. This woman had to die.
Desiree’s mother looked at the face of the person who was going to execute her as she just sat there and made sure that she kept eye contact the entire time. She wanted him to be able to see the look in her eyes the entire time period she knew that it wouldn’t haunt him but at the exact same time it was one of those moments where she was not going to allow him to have the power over her.
Desiree hated when they got to this part at of the memory that played in front of her. She had already seen that a few times. Every time she had seen something new, it was like watching a TV show over and over again. The reason why she hated it was because, for the simple reason Gabriel actually looked like his father, it was almost easy to see Gabriel in the same position that his father was in with an axe in his hand.
She knew that they were different people, though. Gabriel would never act like this. He wanted to give up most of his power, whereas his father wanted more. His father was as evil as his mother. Somehow, the two evil werewolves had created a pure soul.
Chapter 44
Gabriel could always tell when she was in lost with one of the memories. She sat in the same spot and actually was looking at the window like she could see what was going on all the time. However, he also knew when she was witnessing something that she probably didn’t ever want to see. The fact that she had confided in him enough for him to know when she was actually seeing the murder of her mother caused by his father. He had held her hand one time, and he also had the ability to see exactly what was there. There was nothing else other than what she was showing him.
He absolutely hated his father and his mother at the moment. Though he knew that he couldn’t let that cloud his judgment. He knew for a fact that if it was ever called upon again, he would never choose his parents’ side on anything. He would make sure that he opposed any type of decision that they made for the entirety of all of their clans. There was nothing that he wanted to do anymore that was going to involve them. He hated them. He hated everything that they stood for, and they had done. He wished that he could go back in erasing the fact they had done any of it. They had brought enough shame to their names if people knew their crimes. He didn’t know how he came from the same blood.
They had hurt her, too. He could see all of the planning that his parents did to meticulously start the rumors that were going to be the ones that were going to end the peace that had arisen on the island. They wanted to make sure that they got rid of all of the families. Luckily, her mother had been smart enough to make sure that she was sent away. If her line had been erased completely, then they would probably be able to completely rule and take over. The distant cousins that the mothers were didn’t matter in the long run. They absolutely didn’t need to be in the same line for one of the ruling families to take over another. The two women who had been raised together and raised as friends and cousins were completely opposite from each other. One wanted the power that came with her title. The other wanted peace and knew her life would be the cost.
Also, through her ability to look through the timeline, they were also able to understand that it was his mother that was the one who had been planning all of this. His father had been completely in awe, and he had to believe almost at this exact same time that he was being drugged. A lot of the things that he said during that particular time made no sense. It was almost like he was repeating things that he had been told over and over again, but they had gotten mixed up in his brain. Not that Gabriel was ever going to excuse the fact that his father had a part of those acts. He had ordered them. He had killed his best friend. He had killed his best friend’s wife. He had been searching for years to find the child they left behind so they could also be murdered as well.
Seeing it for himself was one of those things that he was never absolutely sure that he wanted to do, but at the exact same time, he knew that he needed to. He needed to be able to make any of those decisions rather quickly and though he had never been able to actually understand why the war had taken place in the first place; it was now understood why. His mother had become so hungry for power that she had gone against every rule that had ever been set for anyone. Gabriel didn’t understand how somebody could take a life without hesitation and they had not only started at a complete war, but they had managed to kill people up close and personal. At least they ordered all of the murders. They only killed one person in the entire war. Desi’s mother.
The surprising thing was they never actually did any of the damage that they had done well in their wolf form. Both of them had actually only killed people when they were in a human form. That was something that he was going to take and start trying to dissect with the reason why. If they were in a more humanoid shape, they would be a little more vulnerable, but if they had come as a wolf, most of the people that they had tried to take on would be equal to them. It was a well-known fact that Desiree’s father had been a better fighter as a wolf than anyone else. He had been trained from the time that he was a toddler for him to be the second in command for war. Even though nobody had actually ever wanted one of those to happen, they had prepared for it. Now was the time that Gabriel was starting to understand why they did that. Gabriel also understood why every time she shuddered. She looked exactly like her own mother, as much as he looked like his father.
He didn’t know how she could actually stand for him to touch her after she had seen that the first time. When he tried to pull back in stay as far away from her as possible, it had been a defense mechanism from her being more important to him than even her physical touch. He didn’t want her to hate him for things that his parents did. He didn’t know if she would be able to see past the fact it wasn’t him. It had only looked like him.
It was going to be extremely hard to be able to separate those things from her mind. Though he didn’t actually know if she would ever be able to get over it. It was something that was going to haunt her for the rest of her life. It was like she had lived through it being there. It was a painful thing to see. Even for him. He hurt physically because of it.
It was also going to hurt him for the rest of his life whether he had to make sure that his parents paid for their crimes or if they had to start new somewhere else. He didn’t know if he could actually survive anywhere else for a long period of time in a humanoid form. That was going to be the thing that was going to change for all time. He knew what he had to do. It was just going to be one of those situations where he wasn’t exactly sure how he was going to do that. He would have to learn. He knew that she could, and he had to be with her. Even if she turned away from him because of the actions of others, he would try for the rest of his life to make it up to her. He would follow her to the ends of the earth if he had to.
