Caitlin believing what Imogen said replied. “That’s good then because all the tension between you was getting too much. I was half expecting him to throw you off his English literature course.”

Imogen nodded and finished off her chicken sandwich.

  *******

  Two weeks later:

Walking out of the bathroom Imogen came to a stop when she saw Grey outside her bedroom door. “Grey?” Imogen said walking towards her bedroom.

Grey’s hands came to Imogen’s waist, and Imogen turned slowly to face him. “Two weeks and five days and you haven’t bothered to kiss me.” He spoke with his lips pressed to Imogen’s.

“I was waiting for you.” She breathed against his lips.

“I wanted you to make your mind up about us,” Grey said flicking his tongue over Imogen’s bottom lip.

Imogen was at a loss for words, her mind blank. A soft gasp left her lips.

“Do you still want me?” Grey whispered; his body shook with a deep hunger that only Imogen could satisfy.

“Yes, Grey, I still want you,” Imogen uttered against his mouth.

“Then come and sleep in my bed,” Grey said picking Imogen up into his arms.

“Yes!” Imogen replied, wrapping her arms around Grey’s neck.

Grey shut his bedroom door, placed Imogen on the bed and removed his suit jacket placing it neatly on the bed. The bed dipped down when he crawled over towards Imogen, with a passionate look in his eyes. His lips pressed to Imogen’s; she grabbed his tie bringing his body closer, so it was pressed firmly against hers. Imogen frantically unknotted Grey’s tie, removing it from his collar and started to unbutton his shirt.

“Imogen,” Grey spoke her name with desperation when he felt her mouth kiss his shoulders.

Her hands trailed his body, firmly touching the muscles of his abdomen. “Such a beautiful body.” She said, now trailing her hands across the hair on his chest. “I like this, it isn’t too much hair or too little.” She kissed him again bringing her hand to the back of his head, her other fumbling with his zip. She reached inside feeling the warmth of his cock against her hand. “God, Grey.” Imogen moaned his name.

Lifting himself up Grey removed his trousers, and boxer shorts before resuming back to the bed. Once back on the bed he quickly removed Imogen’s clothing. “Enough of all this waiting, I need you now.”

Gripping Grey’s cock Imogen guided it inside her.

Grey took a breath, hard and deep. “Imogen are you sure?”

“Yes, more than anything. I know you have nothing; I trust you. I don’t either.” She cupped his cheek.

Grey pushed himself further in and waited a few seconds. It was intense nothing like he had felt before, he took some breaths. Pulling Grey closer to her Imogen almost let out a desperate sob for him to move. Finally, Grey started to thrust his hips, deep strokes of his cock hitting straight towards Imogen’s sweet spot.

“Oh Imogen,” Grey’s breathing was now raspy, he grasped Imogen’s hands his thrusts getting faster, harder.

The feeling of Grey’s bare cock inside her, made Imogen so aroused she felt her pussy already clamping. “Fill me up, Grey.” Imogen cried out.

That was all it took for Grey to cry out, filling Imogen up. Imogen released a long moan as she felt high from her climax.

Grey rolled over, bringing Imogen into his arms. “That was unbelievable. The best I have ever had.” Grey softly kissed Imogen’s lips.

“You’re the best I have ever had; I want no one else,” Imogen said. She rested her head on his shoulder. She still couldn’t believe this; she went from arguing with him every day to being in his bed.

They lay there in each other's arms, and Imogen wanted to ask Grey so many questions. The things he said before about abuse were eating Imogen up, she needed to know more. “You told me your dad physically abused you?” Imogen felt nauseated saying the words.

Grey’s body tensed. He never spoke about this with anyone, except his psychiatrist and that was a long time ago. After that, he hadn’t told anyone else. “Like I said before my mother died, I could not save her and my father blamed me. There is no reason to go over it.”

“Grey,” Imogen placed a gentle hand on his face. “You’re really bad at opening up.” Imogen wanted to carry Grey’s load, help him through any dark times he had.

“I have never been good at opening up, it isn’t something that I do. I am not good at emotionally connecting myself to people. I would rather spend my time alone. I have been this way since I was a child. My mother was the only person I had an emotional connection to. I have little in the name of friends. The girlfriends that I have had I never invested myself in them, and that is another reason it never worked.” Grey said and right now that was all Imogen was getting out of him.

Imogen didn’t know how to feel. On one hand, she felt wonderful that Grey was here with her. On the other hand, she didn’t want Grey to be distant from her. Imogen knew how she felt about Grey, it was a feeling so deep and powerful. Whenever she was with Grey everything felt right, and it was as if nobody else existed. Taking her chances, she held Grey’s face in her hands. “I am in love you with you Grey. I love you as I have never loved anyone.”

The minutes passed by and Grey hadn’t said a word. Imogen’s throat felt tight, and she was getting anxious.

“Thank you,” Grey replied like he was thanking a student for their assignment.

“Thank you?” Imogen said jolting away from Grey. She stood and started to dress herself.

“Love is just a word, just an expression people use. Most of the time it isn’t even real, and people think they are in love, but they are not. I have heard the word love before from one of my exes and it fixes nothing, it only complicates things.” Grey said and his tone was a little intense.

“What about the ballet, the times you were nice to me or when you showed me how to dance? Does that not mean anything to you?” Imogen shouted and her voice was shaking.

“Yes, they do mean something. I feel an attraction to you, and I like you. But that doesn’t mean it is love.” Why did she have to bring up love? It wasn’t something Grey ever felt. He had never been in love, never experienced it.

“Of all the arseholes in the world, I had to go and fall in love with the biggest one of all!” Imogen said her voice choking up. She walked to Grey’s bedroom door.

“Where are you going?” Grey asked now standing to place on his boxers.

“For a walk!” She said between a sob and a scream before slamming the door.

Grey stood in the middle of his room, wondering if he should go after Imogen since it was 10:30 pm. He left it deciding it was best to let her be by herself for now.

For the last twenty minutes, Imogen had been walking; she had no idea where she was going. The tears blinded her eyes, her throat hurt so bad. She wondered if it was her fault that it had gone so wrong. If she hadn’t said a word, never told Grey how she felt then everything would still be okay between them.

She didn’t realise how far she had walked until she came to an alleyway. She was already halfway down when she heard something behind her. She stopped and there was silence, she looked back to see if there was any danger and nothing. Imogen decided to carry on walking, this time picking up her footsteps. This time she most definitely did hear something! Whoever it was also started walking faster. Imogen started to panic, running as fast as she could go. Until a hand grabbed the back of her coat slamming her into the wall. The attacker turned her to face him, and when Imogen saw him, he wore a balaclava his face hidden like a coward! Imogen clawed at his neck trying her best to fight back, her fist came back to strike him in the face. Taking a forceful hold of her hand, he then hit Imogen hard across the face, causing her to fall to the ground. The attacker knelt on the ground over Imogen who now writhed around in pain trying to get away. The attacker grabbed her wrists pulling them painfully above her head. Unbuckling his belt with his free hand, he pulled himself out, pulling Imogen’s knickers to the side. Imogen whimpered and once again tried to get away, another hit to the face and he had pushed himself inside her. Imogen froze as he moved. Angry, painful, sharp hits, hitting inside her. Everything was silent except for his disturbing grunts, the alleyway undercover in darkness. Her body was paralysed in fear, unable to move. It was hard to breathe, hard to scream. The attacker pulled out and zipped back up. He walked off leaving Imogen on the ground to rot like she was nothing. Still, she was unable to move, her hands firmly pressed into the gravel. Lifting her hand, she removed the small stones that had embedded themselves there. Pulling herself up on unsteady legs she pulls down her skirt and places her knickers back in place.

Grey placed his phone on the coffee table. It was 11:30 pm and he was getting worried. He had already called Imogen fifteen times and his mind was going into overdrive. Picking up his phone again he was about to call Imogen when he heard the front door. He dropped his phone and ran out into the hallway Grey’s feet skidded to a standstill.

  Chapter 16

  It’s okay.

Imogen stood in the hallway in front of Grey, her copper hair was thick with clumps of mud. There was bruising on her face, and a cut to her bottom lip. Her hands were filthy with mud and blood.

“I need a bath,” Imogen said staring into space, her voice dull, monotone.

Grey ran to her, picked her up into his arms and carried her to the bathroom. He turned on the faucets and left the tub to fill up, while he quickly ran to get Imogen a nightshirt.

Imogen stood while Grey removed her clothing, her body was tense, and Grey sensed she was petrified. His heart shattered when he saw the bruises around her thighs. Picking her up gently, he carefully places Imogen in the bath.

“What happened?” His question strangled and pained as he spoke.

Imogen didn’t answer, her eyes were straight ahead staring at nothing.

Grey already knew the answer, and Imogen didn’t have to answer it. “It’s okay,” Grey said taking a sponge and wiping it over Imogen’s back.

Grey knelt next to the bath carefully washing Imogen, the two of them silent. Grey didn’t know what to say, he didn’t have the words. All he knew was he was the one to blame. He should have stopped her from walking out his front door; ran after her. He should have protected her from the clutches of that predator. Just like his mother when he could not save her, his guilt was going to eat away at him, and once again he’d blame himself.

Lifting Imogen from the tub, Grey wrapped the towel around her body and he stood holding her tight. He felt scared, that he had no idea what to do. How to talk to Imogen, tell her everything was going to be okay. That she was safe with him.

“I am sorry,” he pressed his lips to Imogen’s forehead, closing his eyes he left them there for a minute. “I am sorry.” His voice was so raw, that it almost hurt to speak.

Grey took a wet cloth and carefully cleaned the dry blood from the bottom of Imogen’s lip. He then dressed her, lifted her in his arms and carried her to his bed-no their bed.

“I won’t be a minute,” Grey said as he placed the bedspread over Imogen.

Grey took a step into the bathroom, carefully closing the door behind him. Leaning his head against the bathroom door. He didn’t realise how much he was shaking until he took a deep breath. His heart felt like it was sinking, and suddenly it felt like he was drowning. Not being able to bear the pain Grey whimpered into his fist. His body shuddered, and hot tears rolled down his cheeks.

Imogen lay in the bed, her mind constantly on the attack. Until she heard something in the bathroom. Her mind started to focus more and more on the sound. It was only faint but she knew she definitely heard something. Then she heard what it was, it was whimpering. Imogen pulled the bedspread back and got out of bed and made her way to the bathroom.

“Grey?” Imogen said with a knock.

Grey removed himself from the door and walked over to the sink to splash cold water on his face. “One minute.” He spoke through the door. He didn’t sound like himself, his throat felt tight, dry, sharp.

Imogen took no notice of Grey and walked in. “Are you okay?” Imogen said walking further into the bathroom. She wanted to hold Grey, but she felt she had no strength and that killed her.

Grey nodded and picked up a hand towel to dry his face. “You should be in bed.” He took Imogen by the hand and took her back to the bedroom.

Grey climbed into the bed and Imogen snuggled close to him, wrapping her arms around his torso. Her nose nuzzled into Grey’s neck filling her with his scent. The scent she loved, craved, needed. The scent entwined itself around her and she never got enough of it. She needed Grey, needed to smell him, so her mind never smelt that foul smell again. Because that is all she smelt, the smell of her attacker.

Grey pressed his hand to the back of Imogen’s head, pressing a kiss to the top of her head and another kiss to her forehead. Grey felt a need and want to protect Imogen and it was all-consuming. He wanted to hold her in his arms, and never let her go. His heart ached physically, he felt it in his chest. Felt it ever since she had walked out, even more so when she had come back broken, and hurt. He had never felt this way with anyone, and it was confusing to him, alien.

“You need to report this,” Grey whispered gently.

“Tomorrow,” Imogen replied. She didn’t have the strength to talk about this with anyone right now. All she wanted to do was wrap herself up in Grey, and fall asleep.

  *****

“There was a knock at the door, and Grey went to answer it.

When Grey opened the door, he saw a detective standing there with his hands firmly in his trousers pockets. “Can I help you?” Grey asked.

“Grey Thompson?” The detective said with a hard glare in Grey’s direction.

“Yes,” Grey appeared confused, he knew Imogen hadn’t reported this yet and wondered why the police wanted to see him.

“You are under arrest for the rape of Imogen Myers.” The detective said taking Grey by the arm to handcuff him.

The world around Grey began to crumble, everything was out of focus. The detective was reading Grey his rights while walking him to the car, but Grey never really heard a word. Grey sat in the back of the car, his hands trembling, his breath hard and heavy. Sweat had begun to form on his forehead, running down his back and chest. He felt dizzy and sick.

  *****

Grey sat in the interrogation room waiting to be questioned. His mind still not fathoming why he was there. His mind was all over the place trying to go over who would set him up.

The door opened and the arresting Detective from earlier walked in. “I am Detective Mitch Harrison.” He said sitting down on the seat in front of Grey. “State your name for the record.” Detective Harrison said pressing the record button on the camera.

“Grey Thompson,” Grey said looking at the camera in a daze, he still couldn’t believe he was sitting here.

Once again, the detective read Grey his rights.

“I understand you teach English literature at the university?” Detective Harrison asked.

  “Yes, I do,” Grey answered.

“Imogen Myers is your student?” Detective Harrison said looking at the open folder in front of him.

“That is correct,” Grey said moving his hands, the handcuffs becoming uncomfortable.

“You teach a master's degree which takes two to three years to complete. Imogen Myers has been failing your class for the last few months. Why is she still on your course? I thought you would have failed her and thrown her off.” Detective Harrison said.

“Imogen is one of my brightest students, I didn’t want to see her fail and waste her potential. I offered to help her study.” Grey answered.

“In exchange for working for you?” Detective Harrison said furrowing his brows.

“Yes, I needed the help and Imogen needed the money. But you know all this anyway, don’t you?” Grey said feeling annoyed.

“I will ask the questions!” Detective Harrison said his tone agitated. “Tell me why you let a student live with you?” He quirked a brow waiting for Grey’s answer.

“She had financial problems and was going to be evicted from her flat. I wanted to help her, give her one less thing to worry about.” Grey answered because at the time that was the truth.

“This is what I think happened.” Detective Harrison said leaning forward on the table. “I think you coaxed Imogen Myers to live with you, took advantaged of your position and abused your power of trust!”

“No, that is wrong!” Grey said in a firm tone. That wasn’t the truth at all, he would never hurt Imogen.

“You let Imogen Myers live with you, and you used your power as a Professor to manipulate her. Then you savagely raped her!” Detective Harrison said raising his voice.

“No that is a lie!” Grey shouted slamming his hands against the table.

Detective Harrison stood walking around the table until he was behind Grey. “You were seen at the scene of the crime.”

Grey felt uncomfortable he hated anyone standing close to him, and it was beginning to piss him off. “I never went out last night, so whoever has claimed to have seen me, they have it wrong!” Grey replied through gritted teeth.

“You took advantage of a young woman!” Detective Harrison shouted leaning over Grey and slamming his hand onto the table.

“No! No! You have it wrong; I didn’t do this!” Grey yelled. His whole body felt like it was shaking, his heart was beating rapidly and his breathing was becoming more erratic.

“Just admit to what you did. If you admit to the crime, I am sure the judge will give you a deal in exchange for a confession.” Detective Harrison said walking around the table, to pick up his coffee and take a sip. He sat back down, folded his arms around his chest and placed his gun on the table. “A confession is the only way forward.” He spoke while he touched his gun, in a threatening way.
