Dashing Devil Omnibus 2: Books 4-6, page 168
“And you think that will be soon?” Stepper probed. Although she tried to hide it, she was unable to disguise the excitement in her tone.
“Yes, dear.” Lilith grinned at the dark elf, eyes sparkling with anticipation and her voice bubbling over with joy. “You saw to that already. I knew you were the woman for the job. Excellent work.”
“Me?” Stepper pointed to herself, her brows scrunched in confusion. “What did I do?”
“Oh, don’t be so modest, dear.” Lilith all but bounced in her seat as she let out a peal of laughter. Calming down, she switched to a perfect imitation of the dark elf and quoted to her, “You may not believe in destiny, but the universe certainly has plans for you… plans that were known long before you were born.”
The demoness grinned at the still-confused young woman and explained, “Maybe you didn’t do so intentionally, but you were infuriatingly vague while implying that you knew secrets about Crimson Paw. Once he is done mourning his loss… and every now and again as he grieves… thoughts of what you said will nag at him. Add that to the other little tidbits you’ve been feeding him, and he will be compelled to find and drag an explanation out of you.”
“Okay... But what makes you so sure that will happen soon?” Stepper asked. “I offered him hidden truths half a year ago, and he didn’t take the bait.”
“Ah, but he was extremely busy at the time, was he not?” Lilith’s grin turned triumphant. “He was training up the lovely Laura and getting pretty little Tinker ready to join them in the field. All while making a very strong run at the most prestigious title for a Hero, still keeping up with his own training, and performing his duties—which included no fewer than fifty hours a week of active patrolling.”
The ancient demoness let out a giggle before she added, “But now he has been forced to take a two-month long vacation. And we all know he isn’t good at sitting idle. My Crimson Paw will come home… curiosity and restlessness will lead him right to us.”
This is the End of Book 6
Afterward
Thanks for reading until the end and I hope you enjoyed every moment of it. I know I certainly enjoyed writing it... well, most of it. Sometimes I don’t like the way I have to treat Boyd for the sake of the story, but I think the payoff was worth it.
He’ll stay on mission, either way.
It would be fantastic if you could take a few moments to leave a review and tell me what you liked or didn’t like. Reviews make a huge difference, both as feedback for me, and in helping other people find the series.
I’m already more than halfway into book nine, and have decided that it will take one more book than originally planned to tell this story right. That means there will be a total of ten books in the series instead of the original nine I planned when I started it.
If you just can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens next, consider joining my Patreon (G.D.Brooks | Patreon). I post the unedited chapters there as I write them, along with images of the characters Dutch and I use to inspire us when writing. Barring occasional interruptions or double releases, I put up three chapters a week.
The feedback I have received there has directly affected each book—especially book six. So, as a bonus, you just might be able to impact the course of the story as well. I won’t take up any more of your time, but thanks again for reading. Until next time, keep adventuring.
Warm regards,
G.D. Brooks
