One of her team members, David, spoke up. “We’ve hit a few snags with the integration. The new features are causing some unexpected issues.”

Eva frowned slightly. “Alright, let’s prioritize those issues. Can we get a status update on each one?”

As the team discussed the problems and brainstormed solutions, Eva felt a sense of determination. Despite the challenges, she was confident they could pull through. She listened intently, offering suggestions and making decisions to keep the project moving forward.

“Let’s focus on the critical issues first,” Eva said. “We need to ensure the core functionality is solid before we move on to the additional features. David, can you lead a small task force to tackle the integration problems?”

“Absolutely,” David replied. “I’ll get started right away.”

“Great,” Eva said. “And everyone else, keep me updated on your progress. We need to stay coordinated and communicate any roadblocks immediately.”

As the meeting wrapped up, Eva felt a renewed sense of purpose. The day was off to a busy start, but she was ready to tackle whatever came her way. And with Alex’s message still lingering in her mind, she felt a little extra motivation to make it a successful day.

Eva worked late into the evening, feeling a mix of exhaustion and satisfaction as she wrapped up her tasks. The team had made significant progress, and despite the long hours, she felt a sense of accomplishment. As she drove home, her thoughts drifted to Alex and the message that had brightened her morning.

  Chapter 44

When Eva arrived home, she found Ana sitting alone in the living room, her friend already asleep in the guest room. Eva smiled, happy to have some one-on-one time with her daughter.

“Hey, sweetheart,” Eva greeted Ana, giving her a hug. “How was your day?”

“It was good, Mom,” Ana replied, returning the hug. “We had fun at the park, and then we played some games at home.”

“I’m glad to hear that,” Eva said, sitting down beside her. “I had a busy day at work, but we made a lot of progress.”

They chatted for a while about their respective days, sharing stories and laughs. After a moment, Eva decided to bring up something that had been on her mind.

“Ana, can I ask you something?” Eva began, her tone gentle.

“Sure, Mom. What is it?” Ana replied, looking curious.

“What do you think about my friend Alex?” Eva asked, trying to sound casual. “Do you like her?”

Ana’s face lit up with a smile. “I like her a lot! She’s really fun and nice. Why do you ask?”

Eva felt a wave of relief and happiness at Ana’s response. “I’m glad to hear that. I just wanted to know what you thought. She’s become a good friend to me.”

Ana nodded, then her expression turned a bit more serious. “Mom, can I tell you something?”

“Of course, sweetheart. What’s on your mind?” Eva asked, giving her full attention.

“Lily has been feeling a little homesick,” Ana said softly. “And I was thinking… maybe we could go to Slovenia for a while. I miss the seaside and my friends there.”

Eva’s heart ached at the thought of Ana feeling homesick. “I understand, Ana. I miss it too. I’ll talk to Grandma and see if we can make it happen. It would be nice to spend some time there.”

Ana’s face brightened. “Really? That would be amazing, Mom. Thank you!”

Eva hugged her daughter tightly. “Anything for you, sweetheart. We’ll figure it out.”

They continued to talk for a while longer, discussing their plans and dreams. Ana shared stories about her friends in Slovenia and the fun times they had at the seaside. Eva listened, feeling a mix of nostalgia and excitement at the thought of returning to Slovenia.

“Do you think Grandma will be okay with me staying for a while?” Ana asked, her eyes hopeful.

“I’m sure she will be thrilled,” Eva replied. “She loves having you around. And it will be good for you to spend some time there.”

Ana nodded, a smile spreading across her face. “I can’t wait. It’s going to be so much fun.”

As they wrapped up their conversation, Eva felt a sense of peace and contentment. She was grateful for the close bond she shared with Ana and the support and love they had for each other. But she also hoped to stay here longer, to spend more time with Alex.

After saying goodnight to Ana, Eva headed to her room, her mind still buzzing with thoughts of the evening. She couldn’t help but think about Alex and the possibilities that lay ahead. The connection they shared felt so right, and she was eager to see where it would lead.

As she lay in bed, Eva allowed herself to dream about the future. She pictured herself and Alex navigating the challenges of their relationship, supporting each other through the ups and downs. She imagined the joy of introducing Alex to her family and friends in Slovenia, and the happiness of building a life together.

With a heart full of hope and a mind buzzing with dreams, Eva finally drifted off to sleep, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation for the future.

The next morning, Eva called her mom to discuss the possibility of Ana coming to Slovenia. Her mom answered on the second ring, her voice filled with warmth.

“Hi, Mom! How are you?” Eva greeted her.

“Oh, Eva! It’s so good to hear from you,” her mom replied. “I’m doing well, but it’s been quite lonely without you and Ana around.”

“That’s actually why I’m calling,” Eva said, smiling. “Ana has been feeling a bit homesick, and we were thinking it might be nice for her to come stay with you for a while.”

Her mom’s voice brightened immediately. “Oh, that would be wonderful! I’ve missed her so much. But… are you sure it’s safe for her to travel alone?”

Eva nodded, even though her mom couldn’t see her. “I was thinking the same thing. I might accompany her and stay for a few days to help her settle in. Plus, it would be nice to spend some time at home.”

“That sounds like a great idea,” her mom said, relief evident in her voice. “I’d feel much better knowing you’re here to help her get settled.”

Eva hesitated for a moment before adding, “I was also thinking about inviting Alex to come with us. She’s become a good friend, and it might be nice for her to see Slovenia.”

Her mom paused, then replied warmly, “If Alex is important to you, then she’s welcome here. It would be lovely to meet her.”

Feeling reassured, Eva decided to talk to her boss about working remotely for a few days. She knocked on his office door and stepped inside when he called her in.

“Good morning, Eva. What can I do for you?” her boss asked, looking up from his desk.

“Good morning,” Eva began. “I wanted to ask if it would be possible for me to work remotely for a few days. My daughter is feeling homesick, and I’d like to take her to Slovenia to stay with my mom. I can manage my tasks from there and ensure everything runs smoothly.”

Her boss leaned back in his chair, considering her request. “Actually, that might work out perfectly. We have some ongoing projects at our Slovenian office, and it would be beneficial to have someone manage things on-site for a few days. How soon can you leave?”

Eva felt a surge of relief and excitement. “I can leave as soon as tomorrow, if that works.”

“Great,” her boss said with a nod. “I’ll arrange for you to coordinate with the Slovenian office. Just make sure to keep us updated on your progress.”

“Thank you so much,” Eva said, feeling grateful for the support. “I’ll make sure everything is taken care of.”

As she left her boss’s office, Eva felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. The trip to Slovenia was coming together, and she couldn’t wait to see her mom and spend some time at home. She also felt a flutter of anticipation at the thought of inviting Alex to join them.

Eva took a deep breath and dialled Alex’s number, feeling a flutter of nerves. She hoped Alex would say yes to her invitation. The phone rang a few times before Alex picked up.

“Hey, Eva!” Alex’s cheerful voice came through the line.

“Hi, Alex,” Eva replied, trying to keep her voice steady. “I wanted to ask you something. Ana and I are planning a trip to Slovenia, and I was wondering if you’d like to come with us. It would be a great chance for you to see where I grew up and spend some time together.”

There was a brief pause, and Eva held her breath, waiting for Alex’s response.

“Are you kidding? I’d love to!” Alex exclaimed, her excitement palpable. “Thank you so much for inviting me. That sounds amazing!”

Eva let out a sigh of relief, a smile spreading across her face. “I’m so glad you can come. Also, would you like to come over for dinner tonight? We can spend the evening together and talk more about the trip.”

“I’d love to,” Alex said warmly. “What time?”

  “How about 7?” Eva suggested.

“Perfect. I’ll see you then,” Alex replied.

“Great! Oh, and there’s something else I wanted to tell you,” Alex continued, her voice filled with excitement. “I got invited to a big event next month. They’re giving out awards for acting in series. It’s going to be a huge deal.”

“That sounds incredible,” Eva said, genuinely impressed. “Are you excited?”

“Very,” Alex admitted, a hint of a smile in her voice. “It’s a great opportunity to meet people and celebrate the industry.”

“That’s amazing, Alex. You deserve it,” Eva said, feeling proud of her friend.

“Thanks, Eva. I was actually hoping you might come with me,” Alex said, her voice softening. “But we can talk more about that tonight.”

Eva’s heart skipped a beat. “I’d love to hear more about it. See you at 7.”

“See you then,” Alex replied, and they hung up.

As the evening approached, Eva felt a mix of excitement and anticipation. She prepared dinner, setting the table and making sure everything was perfect. When the doorbell rang, she took a deep breath and opened the door to find Alex standing there, a board game in hand and a warm smile on her face.

  Chapter 45

Alex arrived at Eva’s house with a board game in hand, ready for an evening of fun and connection. The girls were excited to see her, and the atmosphere was filled with warmth and laughter. They all sat down for dinner, and Alex fit right in, her playful and funny nature making everyone feel at ease.

Eva watched as Alex interacted with Ana, her heart swelling with affection. Alex’s ability to connect with her daughter so effortlessly made Eva fall even deeper in love with her. Ana, too, seemed to adore Alex, laughing at her jokes and enjoying her company.

“Alex, you’re really good at this game,” Ana said, giggling as Alex made a funny face after winning a round.

“Thanks, Ana! I had a lot of practice growing up,” Alex replied with a wink. “But I have to say, you’re giving me a run for my money!”

After dinner, they gathered in the living room to play the board game Alex had brought. The room was filled with laughter and friendly competition, the game providing a perfect backdrop for their growing bond. Eva couldn’t help but feel grateful for the evening, seeing how well Alex fit into their little family.

As the night wore on, the girls eventually went to bed, leaving Eva and Alex to chat a little longer. They talked about their plans for the trip to Slovenia, sharing stories and dreams. The conversation flowed easily, and Eva felt a deep sense of connection with Alex.

“I’m really excited to see Slovenia,” Alex said, her eyes lighting up. “I’ve heard so many wonderful things about it.”

“It’s a beautiful place,” Eva replied, smiling. “I can’t wait to show you around. There are so many places I want to take you.”

When it was time for Alex to leave, Eva walked her to the door. They stood there for a moment, the night air cool and crisp around them. Alex reached out and hugged Eva, the embrace lingering a little longer than necessary. Eva breathed in Alex’s scent, feeling a rush of warmth and affection.

“You smell amazing,” Eva whispered, her voice soft.

Alex smiled, her arms still wrapped around Eva. “Thank you. Tonight was wonderful.”

“It really was,” Eva agreed, reluctantly pulling back. “I’m so glad you could come.”

“Me too,” Alex said, her eyes shining with warmth. “I can’t wait for our trip.”

They shared a final smile before Alex stepped back and headed to her car. Eva watched her go, her heart full of emotions. The evening had been a success, and she couldn’t wait to show Alex Slovenia and spend more time together.

As Eva closed the door and headed to bed, she felt a pang of disappointment that Alex didn’t try to kiss her. But she corrected herself, reminding herself that they were only friends. Still, the thought lingered in her mind, and she couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to take that next step. She sighed, pushing the thoughts aside, and focused on the wonderful evening they had shared. It was a start, and she was grateful for it.

  Chapter 46

The next day, Eva, Ana, and Alex were all packed and ready to fly to Slovenia. The excitement was palpable as they headed to the airport. The flight was smooth, and the travel went off without a hitch. When they landed, Eva’s mom was waiting for them at the airport, her face lighting up with joy at the sight of her daughter and granddaughter. Lily went home with her parents, while Eva, Ana, and Alex went with Eva’s mom to her house, where Ana would be staying.

After settling Ana in, they stayed for dinner at Eva’s mom’s insistence. The meal was filled with laughter and warmth. Eva’s parents made a valiant effort to communicate in English, and it was both endearing and amusing.

“So, Alex, what do you do?” Eva’s mom asked in her charmingly accented English.

“I’m an actress,” Alex replied, smiling. “I work in television.”

Eva’s dad nodded enthusiastically. “Ah, television! Very good. We watch many shows.”

Alex chuckled. “That’s great! Maybe you’ve seen some of my work.”

Eva’s mom leaned in, curious. “What shows? Maybe we know.”

Alex listed a few of her recent projects, and Eva’s parents exchanged excited glances.

“Yes, yes! We know this one,” Eva’s dad said, pointing at Alex. “You are very good!”

Eva couldn’t help but be amazed at how well her parents and Alex managed to communicate, despite the language barrier. They shared stories, laughed at misunderstandings, and bonded over the meal. It was a relaxing and heartwarming evening, and Eva felt a deep sense of contentment seeing her family and Alex getting along so well.

“Alex, do you like Slovenia so far?” Eva’s mom asked, passing her a plate of homemade pastries.

“I love it,” Alex said, taking a pastry and smiling. “It’s beautiful, and everyone has been so welcoming.”

Eva’s mom beamed. “We are happy you are here. You must come back many times.”

“I’d love that,” Alex replied, glancing at Eva with a warm smile.

After dinner, Eva and Alex said their goodbyes and headed to Eva’s Slovenian house. The drive was peaceful, the night air cool and refreshing. When they arrived, Eva unlocked the door and led Alex inside.

“Welcome to my home,” Eva said, smiling as she turned on the lights.

“It’s beautiful,” Alex replied, looking around. “Thank you for inviting me.”

Eva felt a rush of warmth and happiness. “I’m glad you’re here. Let’s get settled in and relax. It’s been a long day.”

They unpacked their bags and made themselves comfortable. As they sat on the couch, sipping tea and talking about the day’s events, Eva felt a sense of peace and anticipation for the days ahead.

They unpacked their bags and made themselves comfortable. As they sat on the couch, sipping tea and talking about the day’s events, Eva felt a sense of peace but also could feel the tension building between them. Alex had such a warm voice. Every glance from Alex made her feel hot, and she felt every accidental touch intensely.

“Your parents are wonderful,” Alex said, leaning back and looking at Eva. “I had such a great time tonight.”

“They really liked you,” Eva replied, smiling. “I could tell. And you handled their English so well.”

Alex laughed. “It was a fun challenge. Your dad’s enthusiasm is contagious.”

Eva nodded, feeling a warm glow inside. “I’m so happy you’re here, Alex. I can’t wait to show you around Slovenia.”

“I’m excited too,” Alex said, her eyes shining. “There’s so much I want to see and do. And I’m glad I get to experience it with you.”

Eva hesitated for a moment before asking, “Alex, can I ask you something personal?”

“Of course,” Alex replied, her expression open and encouraging.

“Tell me about your family,” Eva said softly. “I realized I don’t know much about them.”

Alex’s smile faded slightly, and she took a deep breath. “Well, it’s a bit of a sad story. My parents both passed away when I was young. I have a distant brother, but we were never very close. After they died, I was in and out of foster homes until I was old enough to take care of myself.”

Eva’s heart ached for Alex. “I’m so sorry, Alex. That must have been incredibly difficult.”

“It was,” Alex admitted, her voice steady but tinged with sadness. “But it made me who I am today. I learned to be strong and independent. I had to grow up fast, but it also taught me to appreciate the good things in life.”

Eva reached out and took Alex’s hand, squeezing it gently. “You’re amazing, Alex. You’ve turned your life around so beautifully. I’m so impressed by your strength and resilience.”

Alex smiled, her eyes softening. “Thank you, Eva. That means a lot to me.”

They sat in silence for a moment, the weight of Alex’s story hanging in the air. Eva felt a deep sense of admiration for Alex, knowing how much she had overcome to get to where she was today. The silence between them was comfortable, filled with unspoken understanding and respect.
