“Now that school’s out for the summer, there’ll be no excuses for you not to rest.”
“But there are so many things Emma and I want to do before the children come back in the fall.”
Ross’s eyes gleamed as he stared at her. “I still can’t believe you talked me into letting both you and Emma teach next year. If I were in my right mind, I’d hire another teacher.”
“Sissy’s going to be helping us this fall, and you’ve got to admit, the situation is perfect. I’ll watch Emma’s baby when she’s with the students, and she’ll watch our baby when I’m at the school.”
“Just make sure you let me know if it ever becomes too much for you. You’re too precious to me, and I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
“I will.” She hooked her arm in his and they started to walk home. As they strolled down Main Street, waving to their neighbors, she said, “It’s hard to believe I wanted to leave this place.”
“When you signed that piece of paper, I knew two years would never be enough.”
“Perhaps we should write a new contract with a lifetime guarantee.”
Ross hugged her against him. “Lifetime, eh? I like the sound of that.”
