“I want to talk to my son.” Jake told her that she no longer had a son. “Yes, I do. I have my son, and I want him here right now. There isn’t any way that he is telling you this shit, and I want to know who he’s been talking to.”

“Why do you think it’s him that is giving this sort of information to us? I mean, he was only an infant when you shoved your husband’s car off the road and into a ravine. Also, you’ll be happy to know that we were able to match the paint from your mother’s car to the paint scrapes on the back of the car that we found Tony in. A perfect match, as a matter of fact.”

  “I’m not well.”

She was sick too. Fear was making her ill. Even if half of the things they were telling her were true and they had this sort of information, there wasn’t any way that she was going to be going home again. Not ever. She had to think of—

“It was my mom. She forced me to do all those things, even leaving my child behind. She didn’t like him, not then or now. This is all on her. There is no way that I would have left my son there to die. Nor did I help her in killing Tony. This was all on her. My mother did this.”

“Funny, from what I’ve been told, she’s saying the same thing about you. That you were the one that forced her hand. That she wanted to raise Lyle up as her own, but you said that he was better off dead.” Sunshine wanted to shut them out, to be able to think. But they wouldn’t stop talking to her. “You also killed your father. Then you accused your dead husband of it when you realized that there wasn’t any way for him to dispute your word, didn’t you, Ms. Graham? I mean, how else would he have been able to kill his father-in-law when he was at home with his son when you came home covered from head to toe in blood? He said that you were making fun of him when you told him how much fun it had been to see your father suffering so badly. Why? What did he do to you that you had to kill him? He was, from what I’ve heard, a good man and a better husband than your mother deserved.”

“I want you to shut the fuck up. I can’t think with you going on and on about this.” She started rocking, mumbling about quiet when they continued talking. “I didn’t kill him, even though I should have. But he wouldn’t be aborted. Tony acted like Lyle was the best thing that had ever happened to him. What was I? Huh? What was I? Chopped liver or something? He had to die, but it had to be done in a way that it wouldn’t come back and bite us in the ass. We worked it out perfectly, getting away with not just one, but two murders. Now all these years later, all they want to do is ask me questions. Questions that they shouldn’t even be able to ask me. On top of that, my fucking brother is trying to take my kid from me. I should have thought of selling him to him. That would have worked out well. Then I could have left the country. No one would have known where I was to pin this shit on me. Why couldn’t he have just stayed where he was? Tony hated that I was such a clever person and could get away with everything. I did too. This is all bullshit. There isn’t any way that anyone could know that Mom and I killed them both. No way in hell.”

Sunshine kept talking. On some level in her mind, she knew that they’d never be able to hear her unless they had supersonic hearing. No one had that. As she talked and talked, her mind was working out how to get free from this. How she was going to be able to leave here and take care of business. And as of right now, Sunshine had plenty of business to take care of.

“Ms. Graham, you were told that you were being recorded. Twice, as a matter of fact. We’re taking down every word that you’re saying right now.” She continued to mumble, answering them by telling them both to fuck off. “Be that as it may, you’re confessing to the crimes that I’ve laid out before you.”

“I told you that my mother did it. She forced my hand. If you got any more than that from this so called conversation, then you have put it there.” She smiled at them. “I want you to find me a lawyer. I want the best in the country, and you’re to charge it to Oliver. He’s the one that caused all this in the first place. His better-than-we-are attitude. Did you know that he sucks cock? I should have told someone that a long time ago. But I forgot. Christ, he’s going to be teaching my kid that stuff too, isn’t he?”

“I think that Lyle is smart enough to make his own way in this world.” She snorted at him. “A lawyer will be assigned to you as soon as we leave here. As for Oliver paying for it, you’ll have to discuss that with him. However, I don’t think he’ll do it, just because he doesn’t care if you have a good attorney or not. He, for his own reasons, as well as the things that you’re being charged with, doesn’t like you.”

“I fucking hate him too, so we’re fine with that. I told you what to do, and you’ll do it or else when I’m out of here—and I will be—you’ll be the first person on my list that is taken care of.” He asked her if she was threatening him. “Of course I’m not threatening you, you fucking moron. I’m making you a promise that if I don’t get what I want, I will hunt you down and fucking cut your head off. Did you get that? I’m making a promise, you fucking dick, and you’ll do what I say because I’m the one that will end your fucking life if you don’t.”

“I’m not even going to point out the things that are wrong with that statement. Not to mention how threatening a sitting judge is against the law as well.” She told him to fuck off. “Oliver was right about you and your mother. You do use the word fuck a great deal.”

Both men stood up, and she tried to as well but fell back on her ass. When they both laughed, she screamed at them. It not only hurt her throat but made them laugh all that much harder at her. The mother fuckers were going to pay for this. She was going to make sure.

As she sat there, waiting for someone to come and get her, to do something, she felt a chill in the room. Not just like a breeze, but like someone had stuck her in a freezer and closed the door behind them. Looking around, she saw the glass, which was frozen up like on a cold morning, start to do something. Someone was writing on it, she realized.

“Very funny. As if I don’t understand that you fucking bastards are trying to scare me. Well, you fucking dicks, I don’t scare that easily.” She heard someone say that’s too bad. “Who’s there? Who is that trying to scare me? I have news for you, you’re going to pay for that as much as those other two cock suckers are.”

“Did you really think that I wasn’t around, Sunny?” She felt the chill race over her spine as the voice came to her. It sounded like Tony. And he was the only one that called her Sunny. “That’s because it’s me, Sunny. I’ve come back to remind you what happens to a person when a steering wheel is rammed into their chest. You didn’t care, I’m sure, but I’ve been given special permission to come around and show you what you did to me since you never came to make sure that our son was all right.”

A ghostly cloud started to form. As it became clear that it was a person, Sunshine looked around for whatever was making this happen. She even told the room that she knew it was nothing more than mirrors and cameras.

“There are no cameras in this room. Just you and I. Didn’t you wonder why the officer didn’t come back in the room with you? It was because I was allowed to come and visit you.” The form was that of a man. He had on a Hawaiian shirt that Tony had worn a great deal, as well as the shorts that had a lot of pockets in them that he favored. She saw his face first. “I’m going to show you what I looked like the night I left you. You’ll then know that it could only be me. Remember these sandals? I only wore them because you hated them.”

He was there. Tony Graham was standing in the room with her. Sunshine couldn’t believe that someone so handsome, so well-built, could have been so fucking stupid about shit. She watched him as he moved around the room, telling her what it felt like when she and her mom had rammed him from behind.

“I was dead before I hit the bottom of the ravine. Watch. You can see what happened to me. Then what I looked like when someone came to find me.” He morphed then. His chest seemed to have exploded open as what she could only assume was the steering wheel hit him in the chest. “My face was also broken when I hit the windshield.”

His face, his beautiful face, was smashed back. It looked like someone had taken a hammer to him and had beaten it into the back of his head. Blood began to pour from his face and chest. It was pooling under his feet like he was actually having the accident right in front of her.

Then his face began to fall off. The skin and his eyes that were damaged in the wreckage were drying up, falling to the floor, along with some of the bones that had been broken. Worms began to appear. Birds began picking pieces of his body off and taking them away.

Her belly began to swim as more and more of him was pecked and eaten away. Bones fell to the floor then. Tony explained how they had been on the floorboard of the car, not really on the floor here. As he spoke, his mouth didn’t move right. Teeth fell out. His nose was nothing more than an open cavity. As her belly protested more, he became nothing more than a pile of bones with parts of his hair and skin still attached.

“You see. You did this to me. And I’m going to haunt you like this for the rest of your days, Sunny dear. You and I will then have an eternity to be together. I’m looking forward to that more than I did the birth of my only child.”

His laughter rang around the room and became a part of her. When she thought that he couldn’t do her any worse, his skeleton came at her and flew right through her body.

She left the coldness seep into every part of her. Then, when she thought she couldn’t take much more, Sunshine felt her heart seize up and stop working. She knew then that she was as good as dead. Her heart had been destroyed by her husband.

Honey wasn’t going to say a word. Whatever they said to her, she was going to just sit in her seat and ignore anything and everything they said to her. She could do it. Honey would just have to keep her temper under control and make sure that if she did find herself wanting to speak, she would shove her nails into her flesh until she bled if she had to.

“Ms. Moody, my name is Jake Winslow. I’m the sitting judge for this county. This is Quincey. He’s here in the event you begin to get out of control.” The bigger man smiled at her, and she had no trouble seeing his fangs. She supposed that was what he wanted her to see. “I’m afraid that I have some terrible news for you first off. Your daughter Sunshine died.”

“I’m sorry, what did you say?” He repeated everything to her, including his name as well as the big vampire’s. “Not that, you fucking moron. What did you say about Sunshine? There isn’t any way that she would have died. There wasn’t anything wrong with her.”

“I’m not sure what to tell you. We had a meeting with her, and she said that you made her do each of the crimes that she, as well as you, are being charged with. Perhaps after getting things off her chest, it was just too much for her.” She told him that he lied. “I’m afraid not. I’d never lie to someone about the death of a loved one anyway. The ambulance hasn’t arrived yet. If you’d like, I can take you to see her when they get here.”

“I want to see her now.” Jake told her that it wasn’t possible. “Why the fuck not? You murdered her, didn’t you? You fuckers murdered her, and now you think to blame everything on me.”

Neither of the men said anything. Honey tried to tell herself that her daughter wasn’t dead, that these men were up to something. However, deep in her heart, she knew the information to be true. Her baby was gone.

Laying her head on the table in front of her, she tried to tell herself that this was a bad dream. The men were talking, but she could no longer hear what they were saying. Her grief was so profound that she could barely take it in. Sunshine was gone, and there wasn’t anything she could do about it.

“I’ll have to make funeral arrangements for her.” Jake asked her what she’d said. “You’ll have to let me go now. I have to go and take care that she has a wonderful funeral. There isn’t anyone that I would trust to make the arrangements for her. You’ll have to let me go see to that.”

“That’s not going to be possible, I’m afraid.” She sat up and looked at the man and asked him why not. “You’ve been arrested for multiple murders, Ms. Moody. I’m afraid that you’ll not even be allowed to attend the funeral unless I can get some cooperation from you.”

“You mean if I confess to everything you lay before me. Even if there is no way that I did it.” She smiled, her mind getting out of control with these people. “Yes, I murdered Abraham Lincoln. I was sitting next to what’s his name, and everyone just assumed it was him that did the killing. Anyone else I can be blamed for? I mean, if that is all it will take for me to see to the funeral of my only child.”

“You have a son, as well as a grandson.” Had she been loose, she would surely have leapt across the table and bitch slapped the man. “No one has been notified but you. I’m sure that Oliver would gladly take care of the arrangements for—”

“I don’t fucking want him near her. Do you understand me? He is not to touch a thing that has to do with her. Had he died when we tried to kill him, then none of this would be happening to us. I’d have all the money, my daughter would be alive, and I’d be happy. Mother fuckers, don’t you see? He’s the cause of all this. Him and his father. I wish to Christ that I had killed them both sooner.”

“Ms. Moody, you have just confessed to murdering your husband as well as attempting—”

“I fucking know what I’m saying. I killed him. And Tony’s brother when he started nosing around in my business. I also ran Tony off the road with the little shit Lyle in the car with him. Did he die? No. He was like a leech even before he was born. Lyle is no grandson of mine. I wish every single day that he would have just been left where he was and died. It would have been a long, satisfying life for me to have had that thing taken care of. Lyle’s father? Yes, we ran him off of Meadows Road the night that Sunshine and I both killed her father. The fucker was filing for divorce, and since he wasn’t useful to me anymore because the will said I got everything, we killed him. Then I found out that he’d changed it so that I didn’t even get a quarter of his estate. His precious baby boy got it—the jewels, the money. He left me millions of dollars and a house. He should have fixed it so that there was money all the time. He fucked me over even from the grave.” Jake asked her about Oliver. “Yes, I had Lyle find me two dopers. He did that in spades, did you know that? I never told him why. I guess I should have told him then why I needed them, but he didn’t ask and I didn’t tell him. But as soon as I heard back from them that they’d killed Oliver, I went there under the pretense of paying them and killed them both. Sunshine and I had a good time with them. Then, the mother fucker calls me and asked me a.... He knew, didn’t he? Oliver knew that I tried to have him killed, and that was his way of fucking me over too. Who saved him? I saw pictures of Oliver when they were finished with him. Who saved him?”

“I did.” The vampire. Of course, he had. “He is now my child, and in that, he will live forever. No matter what you did to him after that, he would have lived.”

Honey started laughing. She could hear that it was a little manic, but she’d been dealt a great deal of shit today, and she didn’t think she could handle much more. The vampire didn’t even change his expression when he told her that Oliver was a good man. Like that made any difference to her in how much she loathed her son.

“He’s always been able to make money. When he was ten, he needed to sell some kind of candy in order to go on this trip he wanted to go on. Since every other brat in the area was selling it, I told Oliver to do something I knew he could never achieve. He had to sell more than anyone else in the district, and then he’d have his trip paid for by the school. But I wasn’t going to give him any spending money. He’d have to make that on his own too.” Jake said that he made enough to go. “Not only did he win the first prize of that trip he wanted to go on, but he actually went out to all the fucking neighbors and did work for them. Nickle and dimed them to death, I bet. But he got to go, and he also had over two hundred bucks to spend. Do you know what that shit did? He purchased gifts for those that helped him. Not me, but the people that let him do odd jobs around their places so he could have money to spend. The ungrateful prick didn’t buy me a damned thing.”

“Why is it that you think he should have given you anything? Did you buy any of the candy that he was selling? Did you perhaps add to his account of spending money?” She told Quincey that Oliver had done it on his own. “Then he was correct in making sure that others, ones that helped him, were able to have a nice surprise from his trip when you did nothing for it. I liked him before this, but I have more respect for him now than I did. I’m betting that this is why he’s such a good money maker now. He had learned the value of thanking those that helped him get to where he is now. Despite your need for him to die, you raised a good man. One that I know you’ll never be proud of.”

“What, are you fucking him? Is that why you are complimenting him? Don’t worry. I’m sure Oliver has taken a lot of big bruisers like you to his bed. You’d be no exception.” The vampire just stared at her. Just when she was about to ask him if he was thinking about Oliver, he threw back his head and laughed. “What the hell is so funny about that? Unless, of course, you know already what a lousy lover he might be. It disgusts me if you want the truth. Christ, men and men together? What the fuck for?”

“They love each other. Very much so.” She asked him who he was talking about. “Your son and his mate. He has a good mate that will make him happy for all time. They have adopted Lyle too. He is forever their son. You have missed a great deal in tossing away the love of someone like Oliver. But then, you’re very good at tossing things away from you that don’t comply with whatever sick things you have going on in your head.”

“Ms. Moody, since you’ve confessed to the murders of your husband, Richard Lyle Moody, Tony’s brother James Allen Moody, the attempted murder of—”
