“Because that’s the part that’s untrue. The lie is that we shouldn’t be together. We should be, all the time. MC can have my room and this house is going to get a lot more personal.”

His hands closed on my waist and moved up and down my sides, stroking. “I’m not sure what you’re saying again.”

“It doesn’t matter,” I answered. “I think you got the important stuff. Just go ahead and kiss me, Kellen.”

He picked me up the way he did at the beach so that my feet wouldn’t get burned. But this time, he did kiss me, and I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him, kissed him, kissed him back. He moved just as fast as he always did up the stairs and I curled around him on that nice bed, but I let go enough that he could take off his own clothes.

Kellen, naked. It was the moon and the stars.

“Here,” he said, whispering the word, as his mouth moved over my breasts. “I wanted to kiss you here.”

“Go right ahead,” I urged, and he licked my breasts and tugged on my nipples, first with his lips and then carefully with his teeth. It made me pant, twisting and pushing into his mouth, that beautiful, hot, talented mouth he had. I tried it on him, too, which didn’t have exactly the same effect, but he seemed to like it. He turned me onto my stomach and ran a finger down my spine.

“I rubbed your back on the boat,” he mentioned. “I rubbed in the sunscreen on your little back, but I couldn’t stop touching you. I couldn’t keep my hands away.”

  “Kellen…”

He did again, but he didn’t stop at my back, because he rubbed my butt, too, which was very, very nice. A lot more exciting than I could put into words so I mostly moaned, and gasped, and a few times I kind of groaned like it hurt, but mercy, it didn’t. I thought it was a great idea when he moved my thighs apart and lay against me, his heavy erection fitted between my legs.

“Turn over,” he growled in my ear, like he’d done before. It made me shiver again, but this time I could flip and rub my body against his, my skin caressing his, my hands on his back and his butt too, which was just wonderful to massage. I felt the muscles ripple under my fingers and he liked that a lot better than my nipple licking. He liked it even more when I reached down between his legs and touched him, massaged him there instead. His breathing sounded like mine and he got the glassy eyes I must have had when he’d thought I was feverish.

“Ah,” he moaned, and then a lot of words in Italian as he bit my neck and then slid himself down the front of my body so that I had to let go. He placed himself between my thighs, opening them with his hands, which was very odd because no one besides a doctor had ever stuck his head right there. And definitely no one besides Kellen had done what happened next, which was to put his mouth right there. He flicked his tongue over me and my hips lurched off the bed each time I felt his touch, little licks of pleasure that grew as he flicked more, and then he used his fingers to rub, and then his tongue went inside me? A lot was happening and I was thrashing on the bed, my legs held apart by his big shoulders. I kept myself from flying only by gripping the sheets.

“Kellen?” He was—mercy, he was sucking—“Kellen?”

It wasn’t just pleasant when I came. It was like when I’d been in high school and snuck away to the amusement park, just like when the big roller coasters dropped suddenly. Like the air left me and my eyes saw stars and my whole body arched up off the mattress and I lost the power of speech and it was just…bliss. That was the word. When he slid back up, smiling at me, his hands on my breasts and then asking, “Now?” I could hardly answer yes. Even with the skills I’d learned about condom application, my fingers shook too much to really help with the process.

“Oh, that’s good,” he breathed when he was inside me. “Is it, micetta? Is it for you?”

I nodded, still gasping. I moved my shaking hands through his hair. “It’s really—” He pumped his hips, moving even deeper, and I only moaned.

“Amazing,” he said, that was right. He held me and rolled us over so that I straddled his hips and looked down at him. I balanced with my palms on his chest as his hands gripped my butt again and my hair tickled against his skin. I moved, settling closer and rubbing myself against his body, and now we both moaned.

“Open your eyes so I can see them,” he said and when I did, I saw him smiling at me. I gripped him inside, holding him tightly, and I watched pleasure fill his face and his mouth go slack.

“I’m going to move,” I choked out, because I kind of had to. I rocked, dragging myself against him, and Kellen’s hips moved too, thrusting up. One of his hands was on my breast, massaging, then he moved it down to my clitoris, massaging more. I jerked out of rhythm, but we both did and I couldn’t hold myself steady as I came again, and Kellen surged up into me. I fell onto his chest, my face back against his neck, his arms locked around me.

“Caitlyn,” he said, and turned his face against my hair. He breathed like he did when we ran together.

I picked up my head. I felt dizzy with everything—pleasure, satisfaction, love. Kellen. “I think I was asking you stuff before we came up here. That was a good answer.”

“That was the best answer.” He smiled. “Are you actually moving in with me?”

“I am. Very soon.” For right now, I moved my hips and shivered at the feeling.

“Because I was thinking of buying a house. Maybe one nearer to Bill and Jenny.”

“To my parents?” I asked. “Really?”

“It’s a good thing to put down roots. It’s good for children.”

I lay back down, smiling. “Yeah, I could see that happening. It’ll be good for your image, too. You know, family man.”

He rolled us over so that I was under him again. “That’s not a consideration. I told you that I don’t care what people think.”

“You care what I think,” I said. I stoked his cheek. “And I think you’re wonderful.”

  “It’s not about image.”

  “No,” I agreed. “It’s about…”

  “Love,” Kellen filled in.

“That’s what I was going to say,” I told him. “Because I love you.”

“I love you.” Kellen smiled again, and then he showed me just how much. It was a whole, whole lot, and it took the rest of the night.

And the next day, too. And forever.

  Epilogue

“Who’s that?” I pointed at the field where the players in orange and white warmed up, stretching and throwing, prepping for today’s game.

Kieran flailed with his little fist. “Dada! Dada!” he yelled, which was what he always did when he saw a Woodsmen player. During away games, he would toddle up and kiss the TV screen when he saw the uniform, no matter who it was.

He was right this time, though. Kellen seemed to hear him over the music and noise as fans filtered into the stadium, and his head came up from the turf where he was stretching. In a moment, he’d jogged to the stands where we stood and Kieran flung himself over the railing and into his father’s arms. Kellen hugged him close and they smiled at each other.

“Your first great catch of the day,” I approved. Our son planted a wet kiss on his dad’s cheek, and I leaned forward to put my palm against the other one. I really couldn’t be near Kellen and not touch him.

“Be careful,” he warned, and caught my hand. “Remember that your center of gravity is different.”

Yeah, it was, once again. We actually hadn’t planned for another baby quite so soon. But as I’d told my husband, you couldn’t plan for everything in life. Some things, like having a little girl in a few months, just snuck up on you.

“I believe that was you sneaking up on me, telling me that no one had ever looked so cute while changing a diaper,” he’d corrected. “That was a very enjoyable evening.” It had involved some of the gymnastics we’d both been working on, and yes, it sure had been. Kellen was really flexible.

We heard cheering and all three of us stared at the far end of the field. “Here they come,” he said, and we watched the Wonderwomen cheerleaders emerge for their own warmup. He looked up at me. “They’ll never replicate the quality that they had a few years ago.”

“When I was there in the orange halter top?”

He nodded. “Maybe you could put that on tonight,” he suggested. He’d managed to find a Wonderwomen uniform for me and really, really enjoyed seeing me in it, even if I was a few months along with baby two. Yeah, I was filling that top, full to brimming. “Danni’s waving to you,” he noted.

She was the captain now and she’d worked a lot on changing the culture of the team, getting it back to what it had been before: fun! I waved too and looked for more familiar faces. Almost all the women who’d been on the Wonderwomen squad with me had moved on to different things now, like Mary Claire was managing the exercise studio where she’d worked and dating a nice guy, and Shae had gotten arrested for public indecency (again) in Winnetka. Before we’d had Kieran, I’d worked with a lot of the girls on the team, and I’d even come in as a guest choreographer a few times which had been so, so fun.

But woah, I’d gotten busy with the baby and the shop and the rest of our lives. Maybe I’d go back to that someday, but right now, my dancing was mostly just with Kellen and our son. Kieran really liked to get his grove on. And that was fine with me, although I did still enjoy putting on the uniform for private performances. Those mostly ended up with nudity and moves which would not have been acceptable on a football field.

“Are you nervous for today?” I asked my husband. The Cottonmouths were in town and it was going to be a battle. Of course Kellen was up for it. He was the best receiver in football—the best ever, I would have said. I did say it, a lot.

“I’m not nervous. I’m prepared,” he answered.

I knew he was. He had statistics and charts and graphs on every player he would face, and their backups. “You’re always ready,” I approved.

“Also, I have the three of you here. There are more important things than a win over the Cottonmouths.” He reached up and palmed my stomach and Kieran kissed him again.

  “Dada,” he said happily.

“Kieran,” Kellen said back, and kissed him, too. I didn’t think I’d ever seen a father love his son quite so much. When I saw them together…

  “Micetta, are you crying?”

I took a tissue out of my purse. When I got pregnant again, I’d pulled out my old, king-sized bag that held the king-sized box. Babies made me emotional. “I’m fine,” I said. “I’m really, really fine.” I blew my nose. “I’m so fine,” I repeated, and held his hand over my stomach.

But he looked concerned. “Will you be careful going up the stairs?” He glanced around. “Let me call Lyle to help you.”

“I’ll be careful. I won’t let anything happen to any of us, so you don’t have to worry. We’ll see you after the game, and we’ll go home, and we’ll have dinner, and we’ll be…”

“Happy,” Kellen filled in. And he was exactly right about that.
