I drag back my hips and shove my cock in her throat again, trying to bury what I can’t reveal publicly inside her. She moans around my flesh and squeezes my thighs as I just keep pushing the limits of what she can take. But she’s paid well for this—for giving me the one thing I can’t get anywhere else.

  Release.

From this name. From the collar I have to wear every day. From the confines of that prison people call a church. From the charade I’ve been living for two decades.

It isn’t too much to ask. A few moments of pleasure. What we all deserve as living, breathing human beings. Yet, I haven’t been free to indulge in my vices. Not really. I’ve been bound by the decision we made that fateful day. Trapped in a life that was meant for my brother. Only able to satisfy my base needs on rare occasions…

  Well, not tonight.

Tonight, I’m going to do what I would if we had never made that pact. If he had never killed those people. If we had never switched places. This is where I would be. My rightful place. Instead of pretending to be Rose, I would be the man people feared. The man everyone thinks controls one of the largest and most vicious cartels in the world.

The gall he has to think he can push me out and take over for himself makes me tug on the whore’s hair even harder, push even deeper with more urgency, trying to fuck out my anger and annoyance at the man I shared a womb with. To dissipate the frustration I feel over not being able to do this to Rowan.

These auburn strands twisted in my fingers might pull from her head with the tight grip I’m maintaining and use to hold her still, but she takes it like the good girl she is. She knows why she’s here—what her role is, especially after what happened last time. She won’t make the mistake of thinking her time with me means anything more than a paycheck for her.

And the only thing that would make this better is if it was another redhead on her fucking knees in his hotel room, sucking my cock.

Just thinking about finally doing what I’ve wanted since the moment I saw Rowan starts a low tingle at the base of my spine, signaling the release I've been seeking.

I thrust into her mouth harder and faster, driving down her throat until my body jerks with the pleasure coursing through my veins and hot spurts of cum finally shoot from my cock. She swallows, the movement of the warm, wet, rippling muscles along my dick only dragging my orgasm on further.

For a few moments, the entire world disappears, and all that exists in the bliss of release and the feeling of floating on air I can only get like this. It’s what I imagine a drug addict must feel like when they finally get that high they seek so badly. That high we provide to them. What someone who is truly religious must feel when they are in God’s presence. Maybe standing before the Pearly Gates. But this is the only place I feel it. The only way I feel this kind of absolute ecstasy.

  Truly paradise.

But I don't even have time to pull my cock from her mouth before the elevator dings and the doors to the penthouse slide open.

Fuck. Just what I didn't need today—another complication.

Valerian and Galen step from the elevator car, smug smiles on their lips and weapons aimed squarely at me where I stand near the windows in the main living area of the suite.

Any warmth or sense of calm I got from that brief moment disappears in a split second, replaced with a cold sense of dread.

No one should have been able to find me here. My deal with the manager assured me that no one would be in the lobby when I entered except him and that the penthouse would be listed under a false name. It has worked flawlessly since my arrival in Chicago. And the whore drives in from Milwaukee for all our meetings to ensure Kat could never get wind of what’s going on here through the Chicago grapevine.

  So, what the fuck happened?

They couldn’t have followed “Rose” here when I came straight from the church and this late. I would have noticed someone tailing me even if they had gotten wind from Detective Lopez or elsewhere that there may be something of interest there.

That only leaves two other possibilities. Either the manager sold me out, or the whore with my dick still in her mouth did.

Valerian examines the woman on her knees in front of me and motions with his gun for me to pull out.

I release my death grip on her hair and grunt as I pull my cock free. She glances over her shoulder at the intruders. A flash of recognition there is all I need to confirm she’s the one who told them where I would be and when.

Perhaps what I said to her when we saw each other on Sunday set the wrong tone. The bitch obviously thought I really cared about her. Enough for her to betray me this way.

Apparently, I haven’t learned from my brother’s mistake in trusting a woman on any level.

Valerian points his weapon at her, and before she can move or protest, he pulls the trigger and puts a bullet straight through her forehead. She crumples to the floor in front of me, naked, with my cum still dribbling out of her lips.

Shit. This day just keeps getting better and better.

I glance down at her and her red hair spread out like a burning halo around her face, now marred by a hole in the middle of the otherwise flawless skin of her forehead.

At least Valerian has saved me from having to do it myself later, for betraying me, but it’s just one more mess to add to the long list lately. Still, I wouldn’t have shot her in the head. Now, she can’t even have an open casket.

Nos vemos en el infierno, cariño.

With all the sins we’ve committed, we’re both sure to end up there.

  FATHER FELIPE

I return my attention to the two men standing in front of me and slowly tuck away my semi-hard cock into my pants before I zip and button them. “Gentlemen. To what do I owe this surprise visit?”

This bitch dead on the floor in front of me must have decided the only way to make me pay for breaking her heart was to hand me over on a silver platter to the two men looking for Rose.

She didn’t know any better. Couldn’t have understood what she was really doing when she betrayed me—signing both our death warrants. They never would have let her live, and neither would I.

  ¡Puta estúpida!

Valerian checks the rest of the suite and motions for me to take a seat in the armchair to my left while Galen keeps his gun trained on me. “A lot has changed since we last sat down together, Rose.”

I raise a dark eyebrow at Valerian and smile smugly. “Yes, from what I understand, one of your casinos got raided and your amigo here lost a pretty big gun shipment.”

In reality, I have no fucking clue what went down when Rose was in Valerian’s clutches since my brother wasn’t exactly cooperative when he awoke at the church and wasn’t about to tell me everything that had happened. He was already so far off the deep end on his power trip that there was no way to get that information.

But Valerian took him after Kat made her move and because he believed Rose was the way to get to her and what was stolen. The only reason he even escaped Valerian’s clutches was that he managed to shoot his way out with Genti. And they wouldn’t have gotten very far shot up like they were unless I had shown up to rescue them.

Bad move on my part, but I had hoped to give him one more chance to come to my side. To make the right decision.

Instead, he’s declared war and I’m left to balance between playing him and upholding my duties to the church until I’m ready to unleash everything I have planned on the Windy City.

Valerian issues a low growl and steps toward me. “And you and Kat's goon took out a fuckload of my men.”

I issue a little half-shrug. “You should find more competent employees if you want to hold people captive, Valerian.”

It was far too easy for me to locate where he was holding them. A few phone calls and questions in the right area of the city led me straight to the old hospital they were using as a torture location.

The angry Russian sneers at me and points the gun at the leg he shot on my brother that Sister Agnes patched up to save his life. If the dumbass had bothered to pay any attention when he burst in, he would have seen there was no healing scar there and known I wasn’t the man he shot. “You want another bullet in you?”

I sigh and lean back in the chair. “I would prefer not.” I point to the bottle of scotch on the small table next to me. “But I could use a drink. Mind if I pour myself one for this conversation?”

Galen bobs his head, granting me permission, and I casually pour two fingers and take a sip, letting the spicy, smokey liquid burn down my throat.

“Really, gentlemen, your timing could not have been worse. So, let’s cut to the chase. What can I do for you?”

Valerian crosses his arms over his chest, gun still held tightly in his right hand. “You can help us get that bitch. Tell us where we can find Kat.”

I swirl my drink in the glass and raise it to them. “Well, I don't know if you've heard, but she and I are no longer partners, which means I don't give a fuck what you do to her, and I have no way of helping you get to her.”

Galen sneers at me, the move twisting up the scar on the side of his face from the bomb Kat set to try to take out every other family in Chicago. “And you expect us to believe that?”

“I barely got away from Valentina and Cutter with my life. Why would I protect the cunt who put me there?”

Valerian narrows his eyes on me. “How did you get away?”

That’s a very good question I don’t have the answer to. When Kat gave my dear brother to the Marconis, I had plans to go in after him. If Valentina let Cutter take him out, my entire plan to step in as Rose would be dead along with him. As much as I may hate him, I need my brother alive long enough for me to replace him and convince everyone nothing has happened. It does me no good to allow someone else to end his life before I’m ready.

“I have my secrets, boys.” I take another sip and sigh. “Speaking of which, I hear Valentina may be giving birth as we speak.” I raise my glass and tip it toward them. “So, my congratulations to the new mother and father, but as for Kat…You two can do whatever the fuck you want to her, but I'm not going to help you do it because she’s mine to end.” I tighten my hand on the glass hard enough to whiten my knuckles, ensuring these volatile men see physical evidence of my wrath. “I want to be the one who watches her die a slow, agonizing death.”

Galen raises an eyebrow. “Are you responsible for one of her cars getting bombed today?”

Seems news spreads fast. I wonder what else they know…

I shake my head. “No, but I have heard something about it.”

Valerian glances at Galen. “We did, too. We heard there was someone very interesting at the location.”

  Apparently, they know that.

There isn’t any point in denying it. If what Detective Lopez discovered was told to anyone else in the precinct, the news would have spread like wildfire by now. “Yes…my brother. He is the priest there.”

The two men exchange a look and wait for me to elaborate, which I have no intention of doing. I down the rest of my drink and grab the bottle to pour myself another. Another to drag this out and make them wait. Men like Valerian and Galen hate silence. It unnerves them.

I take a sip of the second one and relax back into my chair casually.

Finally, Galen sighs. “And just what was Kat doing meeting with your brother?”

I shrug. “How the fuck should I know? Probably trying to get information she can use against me, and since he and I aren't exactly on good terms, the bitch may have succeeded.”

Valerian snorts. “Were you the one who set the bomb?”

I smirk at him. “No. Were you?”

He scowls. “I wish I could say I was. We've been trying to get to her ever since she came back from Albania, with no luck. She’s staying well-hidden and away from her club, Kat’s Cradle, and her other locations.”

“Well, gentlemen…” I push to my feet and hold up my drink. “I hope your luck changes. And if it does and you get a gun to her head, you tell her it’s from me too before you pull the trigger.”

Galen holds up a hand. “Stop right there. Do you really think this is the end of this conversation?”

I raise one shoulder and let it fall nonchalantly. “It is for me. We’re all in the same boat. All betrayed by that same snake. There isn’t any point in us fighting each other and her.”

Valerian issues a low, rumbling laugh. “I seem to remember her suggesting something similar during my last meeting with her. She told Galen and me that she wasn’t working with you when she really was. That was a bald-faced lie, so why should we trust you now?”

I take another sip and roll the glass between my hands. “Kat may have fudged the truth a little bit back then to get you boys on her side. But I am not Kat, and things have changed since she took out Michael and took over the Albanian crew. Things that never would have happened before. Overstepping on her part. An alliance between our three families would be hard to stand against, especially for Kat. She doesn’t have any allies. No friends.”

My words hang in the room around us, but they don’t speak, mulling over the idea I’ve planted loosely in their heads.

“I have something that will be of great interest to you boys.” I set my empty glass on the table and nod toward Valerian, then make my way toward Galen. “Something I think you especially will find very interesting, amigo.”

He watches me for a moment, his cool eyes assessing my vague statement. “I don’t like you, Rose. Don’t like the way you or your former girlfriend do business, trying to push your way into territories that were established long before either of you were even born.”

I hold up my hands. “I don’t blame you. But I’m not just going away, and neither is Kat. At least, not without a bullet to her head like Valerian did to her.” I motion back toward the dead hooker on the floor. “I assume you’ll clean that up since you made the mess.” I glance at Valerian. “If I find Kat and can end things, I’ll let you know, but until the time one of the three of us succeeds in ending our mutual problem, I suggest we keep things amicable. Deal with one enemy at a time while we at least consider the possibility of future alliances.”

Valerian doesn’t react, just watches me stoically, not giving away anything.

“What’ll it be, amigos?” I wave a hand toward the elevator. “Are you going to shoot me in the back while I walk out of here?”

They exchange a look, and Galen turns toward me.

“We’ll hear you out, Rose. Because we want Kat gone more than we want you gone, and if you can help rid us of her faster, that only benefits us. But make no mistake, if we find out you’ve been in the same fucking room as that cunt and didn’t blow her head off, then you’ll be right there with her when we do.”

I flash them a classic Rose smile and incline my head. “Understood. I’ll contact both of you soon with some important information. Information that will change everything.” I wink. “And I’ll keep an eye out for our lady friend.”

The two men watch me walk toward the elevator, but I don’t look back until the doors have slid open and I’ve stepped inside and have to turn to face them. They aren’t happy about what just went down tonight. They anticipated spilling my blood or finding a way to Kat.

I guess I should thank her for betraying my brother and giving me a way to create a bridge between the Irish and the Russians.

While their little visit couldn't have come at a worse time, it's actually playing directly into my hands. Now, let's just hope everything else goes the same way and there aren’t any more unexpected surprises.

  FATHERN FELIPE

I unlock the back door of the rectory and slip inside as quietly as possible. Sister Agnes has better hearing than most women half her age, almost like she has some sixth sense for knowing when people are up to something they shouldn’t be. The woman was born to be a nun and sniff out sinners, so it makes sense she gave up her nursing career after serving in the army to become a member of the clergy.

The last thing I need is for her to find me sneaking back in this late at night with the smell of the hooker on me and blood spray on my pants and shoes if she flips on the lights and looks close enough.

That would lead to a lot of questions I can't answer yet. And though the little visit from my Irish and Russian friends tonight was an unexpected surprise, it wasn't wholly unproductive.

It may actually help me achieve my goal quicker than I planned…

Valerian and Galen are out for blood, but at least it isn't mine anymore—or should I say Rose’s. What Kat did to my brother by turning him over to Valentina and Cutter and betraying him creates the perfect alibi for me and the ideal excuse for them to trust me when they didn't only such a short time ago.

The only complication will be the other Rose and his refusal to step down. If they try to contact him, he will know I’ve been masquerading as Rose and making moves behind his back. I had hoped it wouldn't come to this, but if he's not willing to take over here at the church and step back into the role he was destined for before that fateful day, then he's dug his own grave.

  Literally.

There can’t be two of us anymore, not when we have divergent goals and don’t trust each other. The status quo that has stood for the last two decades has to change before everything blows up in our faces.

While nothing was finalized tonight, the boys did let me leave and promised to take care of the mess they created in the suite. It’s the very beginnings of an alliance that will only solidify in the future once I’ve revealed all to them. One where I reign over the Windy City and eventually the entirety of North America.

If I can get to my room and out of these clothes fast enough…

I make my way down the hallway toward my room, careful to tiptoe past Sister Agnes’ door, but it’s another one that swings open with a creak that seems to echo off the hard floors loud enough to wake the dead.

  ¡Mierda!
