“No.” Hailey shook her head. “My grandparents tried to work out how it was possible that I became an omega, but my parents refused to listen to them, so they instantly dropped the matter. I was always treated like the runt of the litter, or the outcast. My parents refused to acknowledge that I was different, and I became an easy target for my brother, obviously. After all, he was older, so he made all the rules.”
“I fucking hate him,” Nikita grumbled.
“As do I,” Hailey muttered. “I just thought I’d grow old and try to live as normal of a life as possible. But then my previous alpha came through my old town one day, and I could smell him from a mile off. I knew from my research that I needed to be with him, it was in my blood, so I packed a bag and snuck out of the house one night and tried to track him down. I never said goodbye to my parents, I certainly didn’t say anything to my brother, and I just left. It was the first time I had ever come across another shifter, so I didn’t want to waste that opportunity.”
“You’re so brave,” Arielle sighed.
“But, can I ask, how did you manage to shift?” I asked. “Without any guidance or protection around you, how did you know what to do?”
“A lot of research,” Hailey giggled. “I would venture off into a forest near my house in the dead of night, shift, let off some energy, and then return before anyone saw me. The first time was interesting, though, because I didn’t think about changing out of my clothes first, so I had to sneak back into my house fully naked.”
“Yeah… I can relate,” I said and cleared my throat as I recalled the morning after my Mini-Mart fiasco.
“You have some balls,” Blair chuckled as she eyed the werewolf omega.
“Yeah, I didn’t make that mistake again,” Hailey replied. “But where was I? Oh, yes. After I left the house, I managed to find this alpha, and he obviously knew I was there, too. I begged him to let me come with him, and he agreed without any thought. Again, at the time I thought the connection we had was natural, so that’s why I was completely blown away when you came along, Jesse.”
I gave her a smug smile and then kissed her cheek sweetly.
“I instantly felt like I had a whole new family, and I was no longer an outcast,” Hailey continued. “That’s when Harry took me under his wing. He was just a beta, but we had more in common than I did with my own family, so he offered to be the big brother I wanted my own to be like. My alpha was in the process of relocating when I found him, and that’s when we headed north to Canada. Then one day my alpha and I had a conversation. He knew my story, so he also knew that my family might try to find me, which is when he told me to change my name. He said to pick any name I liked, so I did.”
“Hailey is ten times better than Sarah,” Nikita mumbled. “No offense to your parents, but you should have totally been Hailey this entire time.”
“Well, now I am.” The werewolf omega smiled. “Um, so, yeah, that’s the story. I never heard about my brother trying to find me, or becoming a fucking were-hunter, but I suppose it shouldn’t surprise me too much. He was always out hunting and taking his rifles into the forests. I also knew his obsession would one day get him killed, and that’s exactly what happened.”
“I can’t wrap my head around everything,” Arielle said with a frown. “You’ve been through so much, yet you’re so strong.”
“I didn’t break out of my shell for a while.” Hailey shrugged. “But I already feel like a completely different person in just the few days I’ve been here.”
“That’s because we are a real family.” I smiled. “We don’t throw the outcasts to the ground. We embrace them.”
“Thank you,” Hailey said, and the smile on her face looked like she had lost all the weight she had been holding onto this entire time. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you straight away, but it was difficult, y’know?”
“Hey, the fact you told us is all we care about,” I replied. “I mean, I’m sorry for killing your brother, but I can tell you would have done the same thing if you were there.”
“Yeah, I would have.” Hailey nodded. “Does that make me a bad person?”
“Absolutely not!” Blair replied. “It makes you a fighter, and a fucking survivor.”
“We protect those around us, and he posed a threat to us, so there was only one thing to do.” I shrugged.
“Yes, you’re right,” Hailey said.
“Also, I know your grandparents tried to find out how you ended up being an omega, so I’m more than happy to continue that task, if you want?” I asked. “Or, if you wanted to get back in contact with your grandparents, and only them, then I’ll also be happy for you to do that, too.”
“Really?” Hailey’s eyes widened. “You’d do that for me?”
“Of course, I would,” I replied.
“I mean, even just finding out the truth is more than enough,” she added. “I know my parents would know I got in contact if I spoke to my grandparents, so we don’t need to go through the trouble of talking to them.”
“Well, whatever you’d prefer.” I smiled. “I’m also curious to know how that works, especially if your parents are non-shifters, so I think it’ll be a fun journey.”
“Thank you, Jesse.” Hailey threw her arms around me, and Nikita had to grab my glass of Scotch before I dropped it.
The blissful emotion that oozed from Hailey caused my heart to shatter into multiple pieces. She had looked so lost and wounded when she came back from the bathroom, so it meant everything to me to see that her smile had returned.
Once Hailey had recovered from her difficult story, and everyone had enjoyed their drinks, I made sure to fully lighten the mood. After all, I had a promise to keep.
I teased and pleasured my omegas one at a time until my name was echoing around the cabin. I took Blair from behind as she used the bed for a support, and then Nikita took control and rode me until I lost my sight. But with Arielle, I decided to change things up a bit, and I slammed her against the bedroom wall and fucked her until my legs were about to give out. Then Blair refilled our glasses, and she offered us the Port and Scotch through straws as I fucked Arielle with everything I had.
All five of us were in desperate need of a nap by the time things came to an end. None of us had expected a fight like that today, and my entire pack and I were still on high-alert.
But as I relaxed on the bed with my omegas around me, I couldn’t stop thinking about Theo Finch. I knew I had covered every base I could today, and I had more than enough betas out there to keep watch, but I couldn’t stop thinking about him looming in my future.
In the course of a week, we had killed over one hundred of Theo Finch’s betas, but I knew what would happen when those betas never returned home.
There was no doubt in my mind that Theo Finch was going to head out and track them down, or he’d send more groups of betas to do the job for him. And one day, potentially one day in the very near future, they were going to come across the littered remains in the field.
And that would lead them straight to me.
Just that thought alone caused a grin to curl across my lips.
Theo Finch may have gained whole states’ worth of territory in the years since he’d slaughtered my parents, and he may finally have me on his radar real soon. But when that time came, the werewolf bastard would be in for the fight of his life.
Because I was already waiting for him.
And he was already on The Alpha’s kill list.
