She found Gavan waiting outside, scrolling his phone. “Why didn’t you tell me Sam called you?”

“You didn’t need the distraction, sweetie, you were writing,” Gavan explained. “Besides, he stopped calling.”

“You could have told me and let me decide.”

“Dedra is that you?” a familiar voice called from a short distance.

She turned to find where it was coming from. She spotted Julie walking toward her. “Julie. How are you?”

Julie held out her arms for an embrace. “And Gavan. It’s so good to see you again.” She hugged him as well.

"Hello, Julie,” Gavan greeted her. “I hate to hug and run, but I must go.” He laughed. “I have a hot date with a pilot.” He touched Dedra’s arm. “I’ll call you later.”

“I loved your book,” Julie said.

“Thank you,” Dedra said, watching Gavan disappear into the darkness. She wanted him to stay so she could let him know the line he had crossed by not telling her about Sam’s calls.

“That Andrea character was something else.” Julie snickered.

  “Wasn’t she, though?” Dedra agreed.

“You know, it was weird that she’d go after men and attention like that, but her singlemindedness was kind of admirable.”

  “How so?” Dedra asked.

“She knew what she wanted, went after it, and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Kind of like you and your writing career. You didn’t let anything stop you, and look at you now.” Julie stepped back and locked her gaze on Dedra.

Dedra couldn’t speak. Julie was right. She had let nothing stop her from getting where she was right now. Not even Angie.

“It was good to see you.” Julie waved as she walked away.

Resolve solidified within her as she watched Julie fade into the distance. She was ready to close this chapter of her life, to learn from it, and to continue growing. With her newfound clarity, the path forward seemed a little brighter, a little more promising. It was time to embrace the future, with all its uncertainties and possibilities.

As the city streets unfolded before her, Dedra’s mind buzzed with possibilities. The experiences she had navigated, the emotions she had felt, and the people she had met were all threads in the rich tapestry of her story. Glancing around at the couples and families around her, she realized new ideas were all around her, vibrant and waiting to be captured in the pages of her next book. All she had to do was open her heart and mind to them, to let the world in with its endless inspiration.

She smiled to herself, a sense of anticipation building within her. Her journey as a writer was far from over. In fact, it was just the beginning. With every step, every observation, and every interaction, she was collecting precious material for her stories. She was more than ready to surround herself with these new ideas, to let them guide her pen and continue her journey as a writer and as a seeker of truth and beauty in the often chaotic yet wonderfully inspiring life.

With a renewed sense of purpose and an open heart, Dedra knew that her writing journey would continue to be an exciting, ever-evolving adventure. One that she was more than ready to embark on…alone.
