Find Me, page 26
Five others, all men, and one was bald with prayers in kanji tattooed on his scalp. “Where to, Boss?” that one asked.
“Back to the hospital.” The man with the box turned away from Reiko, and when he walked to the car, a cat bell jingled in the box.
“Excuse me.” Reiko ran after him. “What do you have in there?”
He looked at her but didn’t answer and put the box in the backseat of the car.
“Do you have a bell in the box?”
“What are you, the police?” he asked.
“No.” Reiko frowned.
“Then it’s none of your business, right?” And just as he said it, she realized why he was so familiar.
Although the appearance was much different, it was his eyes. The windows to his soul reminded her of someone vivid in her mind.
“Goodnight?” she asked.
A single eyebrow arched up. Then he bowed. “Rest well, Mistress. The tourist area is back that way.” He pointed. “Be safe.”
“Wait!”
But he didn’t wait. He got in his car and slammed the door. Bike engines growled all around her, and unaccustomed to such loudness, Reiko covered her ears. Leaving her standing in fumes and coughing, the taillights disappeared into the night.
From the Author
Thank you for reading. You are much appreciated by this tiny indie author.
I started the trilogy knowing the ending of the story. It was the very first scene I saw, but it’s been a journey trying to get there. Hopefully, it doesn’t turn into shambles and end in tears as I try to bring closure to the story in Keep Me, Book 3. Let’s find out together.
