“Don’t judge me though, Octavia, please,” Jholee said.

“I won’t. As long as you’re done with TK.”

“I am,” Jholee said, not knowing whether she would go at his beck if he called.

“Hey, bitches!” Riley spoke before sitting down.

She had her ear buds in her ear, pretending to be on the phone. She stared at Jholee who looked like she had never been beat up. Her bruises had cleared all the way up. She was now staring into her phone grinning and it was making Riley angry.

“Yeah, TK. I told you that I loved you back, damn,” Riley said, and kept her eyes on Jholee to see how she would react, but the smile on her face never faltered, so she had to keep going.

“You are wild. You said you don’t fuck with no other hoes. How am I supposed to believe that? Just because you eat my pussy,” Riley said and grinned.

Jholee looked up with a scowl on her face, and Riley thought she had gotten her rattled. “What’s up? You got a problem or something?”

“Yes. I have a problem when you are talking about getting your roast beef ate over my damn food,” Octavia said.

“Yeah, right, Riley. I agree,” Jholee said before sliding her phone in her pocket.

“They are being some haters, babe. I’ll talk to you in a little bit. Love you too, bye,” Riley said and pushed the button on her earbuds, pretending like she had hung up the phone.

“So, what’s been up with you, Jholee? You straight up ghosted us and everybody that cares about you had to find out that you got your ass busted from the goddamn Facebook. I thought that we were better than that,” Riley said.

Jholee was getting ready to open her mouth to speak, but Riley held her hand up. “I’ll be back, I’m about to go get a plate.” Riley stood and walked away.

Both Octavia and Jholee watched her walk away from the table.

“Wow, that was something. Anyway, what are you doing this weekend?” Octavia asked.

“Girl, probably going to the movies or something with Major. I do owe him a date.”

  “Mhm. A double date?”

“Yes! Perfect. I haven’t seen my brother in forever,” Jholee said.

“Hush. You don’t come around. He be looking for you too,” Octavia responded.

Riley was heading back to the table and they both got quiet. “What y’all was talking about?”

Before Jholee could open her mouth, Octavia said, “Meek’s new album.”

Octavia lied because she didn’t want Riley to try and make their double date a triple date with whoever she was fucking for that week.

  “Oh.”

Riley knew they were lying, and she couldn’t believe that Jholee was letting Octavia play her like that. Just because her and Octavia had been friends the longest, didn’t mean shit. Riley had kept a lot of hating ass hoes from jumping on Jholee, especially when she used to come to class every day with new purses, shoes, and whatever her daddy spoiled her with the following day. Riley was lowkey happy that Joe-Lee had gotten hurt because she was jealous that all the niggas that she fucked with wanted to talk to her. The only reason that none of them never talked to Jholee was because Riley would tell them that she was dating somebody that went to school in Daytona. Now that Major put in her head that Jholee was fucking with TK, she knew she needed to keep her enemy close. All the hoes knew the Kincaids got all the fucking money, and if she could just get pregnant by him or even become the main chick, she’d have all the fine shit that Jholee used to have. It was time for Jholee to be jealous of Riley.

Riley was going to know what they were talking about because she had her recorder from school still going in her bag. She was going to listen to it when she got home and hoped that Jholee said something that she could let Major listen to.

“So, Jholee what are you doing this weekend? I got a date with my boo, TK,” Riley said.

“I have a date with Major,” Jholee said and looked back down at her phone.

“Is that who’s got that big smile on your face?” Riley asked her, being nosy.

  “Yes,” Jholee lied with ease.

There was no way that Jholee could tell Octavia or Riley who had her smiling on the phone. She was chatting with a young man by the name of Fahad Al Gaz on his fake Instagram account. Jholee was ready to take matters into her own hands and she did by searching the hashtag Dubai on Instagram and his profile was the first one to pop up. Excitedly, she wrote him and explained in a couple of sentences what she wanted to do. Since she was going to cut out the middle man, she asked for the whole one hundred and fifty grand. She thought it was a long shot and she thought she was stupid until the guy responded a day later from his fake Instagram account. She was leery of the account because it had no followers, no pictures, and wasn’t following anyone, but Fahad reassured her it was him by screenshotting Jholee’s original comment to him.

JISAF: I can’t wait to see you. Have you been thinking of a date? I promise not to be so hard on your sexy ass. We might have to make it a regular thing. What you think?

Well, I don’t know. You stay twelve whole hours away from me. Can’t just hop on a plane whenever I feel like it.

JISAF: Depends on how good you are to me, I’ll be more than happy to accommodate you.

  Will you pay every time?

JISAF: To have a beautiful girl like you on my arm every weekend, of course, but… you’d have to be mine and mine only. I’m not big on sharing. I’m sure you have a lot of men over in the States wanting you.

  Not a single one.

JISAF: I can’t believe that. You are so beautiful. On your pictures, your hair is always up. When you come see me, I want it hanging down. I have to get to work now, baby, so I’ll contact you later.

  TTYL

Jholee looked up to see both of her friends staring at her with blank stares on their faces. She didn’t do anything but shrug her shoulders. Once they were finished eating, they were all walking out to the parking lot.

“Can one of y’all take me to the studio?” Jholee asked.

Riley volunteered before Octavia could even open her mouth. Jholee hugged Octavia before getting in Riley’s Camry and buckling her seatbelt. They had a twenty-minute ride with the traffic. For the most part, Jholee didn’t say anything.

“So, where you and Major going this weekend?” Riley asked.

“The movies girl. I owe him a date.”

“Awww, okay. We can make it double date and I’ll bring TK,” Riley said and Jholee looked at her and smiled.

“I’m happy you’re happy, Riley,” Jholee responded instead of saying what she really wanted to say.

While looking ahead, Riley squinted her eyes because she didn’t know if Jholee was playing her or not. Riley knew Jholee was smart, but not smart enough to play games with her like that. If dancing or her degree didn’t work out for her, she could definitely go to acting school.

“Well, thank you, friend. Let me know what movie y’all are going to see and text me. Maybe we can add dinner after the movie.”

Jholee nodded her head and looked out the window. Deep down, she felt some type of way about Riley and TK, but she’d never let anyone know about it. She lowkey missed TK. She hadn’t talked to him since the day they got into it and she smacked him. Jholee knew that TK was back messing with Riley because Riley was bound to run her mouth to her about him. She would take what TK had done to her to her grave. She hoped that he didn’t show up to the movie, but knowing him, he would, just to torture her.

When Riley came to a halt in front of the studio, Jholee started grabbing her things from the backseat.

“Let’s take a picture best friend,” Riley said.

Jholee leaned over and smiled for the camera. With the help of some cocoa butter and scar cream, all the scratches she had on her face had faded away. Next to her smooth, blemish free, and dark skin, she loved her smile. People always thought that she had gotten braces, but she hadn’t. Jholee had inherited that beautiful smile from her father. After Riley took a few pictures, Jholee had gotten out of the car. Riley watched her walk in the studio and she opened up her text messages to send a text along with the picture of her and Jholee.

*1 image attached* This is my best friend Jholee. You want to double date with her and Major to the movies?

Riley waited for him to respond. She didn’t know how he would respond because he hadn’t responded to none of her texts since he told her that they needed to chill out. Moments later, her phone chimed. She looked at the phone and rolled her eyes because TK had responded.

TK: Fa sho. What movie and what time?

It was at that moment that Riley knew that Jholee and TK were indeed messing around. He had never responded to her that fast and it really pissed her off.

She’s going to text me the details. You ain’t never text me back this fast. I thought you wanted to chill on me.

TK: My phone was in my hand. I am chilling on you, ma. It’s just the movies and shit.

Well come over tonight after the date.

TK: Hit me up with the time and date.

She slammed the phone down in her cup holder and sped away from the studio. Riley couldn’t help but wonder how both TK and Jholee were going to act once they got in each other’s presence.

Jholee was standing in the mirror putting the finishing touches on her make-up. Major would be pulling up in front of her house in about ten minutes. She had on a pair of nude boots that stopped right under her calf, a pair of heavily ripped jeans, and a green and red plaid shirt that she had tucked in her jeans, so they could see the shirt through the rips. Jholee had pulled her hair up into a pineapple ponytail with a green rag wrapped around her hair. She may have gotten rid of her bags and stuff, but she was not going to get rid of her clothes. Jholee loved fashion, just as much as she loved dancing. Her phone vibrated against the sink and it was from Maj.

  Maj: I’m outside, babe.

Jholee grabbed her purse and walked outside towards Major’s car. Major got out the car and opened the door for her. She hugged him, and he kissed her on her cheek before she got in the car.

“You looking fly as hell, ma,” Major said once he pulled away from her house.

  “Thank you. I be trying.”

“You ain’t got to try too hard.”

“Don’t hype me up, Major,” Jholee said and blushed.

Major slid his fingers in between hers and held her hand as they drove. They were going to the movies in Orange Park, so it was a forty-minute drive. Every other minute Major would peek over at Jholee and she was sitting back looking out the window. No matter what Riley told him, there was no way that Jholee could be fucking TK.

“So, did your daddy ever find out who did that to you?” Major asked her, hoping that she would tell the truth about it.

“Nah, he hasn’t. I don’t even want to talk about it anymore. I’m feeling fine and I’ve put it past me.”

“Why would somebody fuck with you though, Jholee? You don’t bother—”

“Major, I really don’t want to talk about it.”

  “Okay, ma. My fault.”

The ride was quiet while Jholee was getting a little worked up about the conversation that Major was trying to have about Chey whooping her ass. She was going to sign herself up for some self-defense classes or something like that.

“Can you spend the night with me, tonight, Jholee? I won’t do nothing that you don’t want me to do, I promise. I just want to hold you. Is that cool?”

  “Yes,” Jholee said.

If that would take his mind off asking her about Chey, she would agree to anything. This was going to be her first time staying with a man that wasn’t her father and she was getting nervous. She thought about her nightly hair and facial routine. If she skipped one night, her hair and face would be looking tore up the next morning.

“Wait… I have a nightly and facial routine that I do every night—”

“We can go buy that shit or we can stop at your house and get it. Stop making excuses, Jholee, and recognize a good nigga when you see one ma. I ain’t trying to hurt you or none of that. Just give me a chance. You told me that we could be in a relationship and that we would talk about it later, but you ain’t said shit about it since,” Major sniped.

“Don’t get an attitude, Major. We’ll talk about it tonight, I promise,” Jholee said and leaned over and kissed him on his cheek, making him smile a little bit.

Twenty minutes later, Major was pulling into the movie theatre. Luckily, he found a parking spot right at the front. He came around the car, opened the door for her, and helped her out. Major latched on to her hand and even though her heels made her a little taller than him, she leaned her head on his shoulders. As they approached the movie theatre, Jholee’s breath got caught in her throat. Standing next to the ticket kiosk was Kiandre smoking a blunt, and Riley waving them over. Her palms started to get sweaty and she was trying not to lose her shit. She looked him up and down and a shockwave went through her clit. TK had on a fitted, money green sweater that stopped right at the waist of his dark blue Balmain jeans, paired with a pair of brown Chelsea boots. He had on a gold chain with ‘TK’ at the end of it and several small gold chains. Her heart felt as if it was about to beat out of her chest.

“’Bout time y’all made it. You must had to get you some before you came,” Riley said.

“What? No girl,” Jholee said, wishing that she could disappear.

“She gon’ stop playing with me, one day,” Major said and bumped his pelvic into Jholee’s ass, annoying her. “Oh my bad, baby, this is my boss, TK,” Major introduced Jholee to TK.

“Hey,” Jholee said and smiled at him as if she had never seen him a day in her life.

TK looked down at Jholee and it was taking everything in him to keep it together and not choke the hell out of her. He missed her, and he hated to admit it. The only reason why he even agreed to the date with Riley was because she had sent him a pic of Jholee and her, and his lil’ boo was looking good than a mothafucka, but he hated the impression that Jholee was going to get, especially with him telling Riley in front of her that they needed to chill. It was something about Jholee’s naïve demeanor that got to him, but he ain’t chase no girls, and he wasn’t about to start with Jholee.

Instead of TK speaking, he threw his head back and blew smoke Jholee’s way, prompting her to fan the smoke out of her face. She was getting ready to go off on him for doing that, but she heard Octavia’s voice behind her.

  “Babbbeeesss.”

Jholee threw her arms around Octavia and hugged her tight like she didn’t just see her the day before. “I’m about to lose my mind, Ocky. I want him badly,” she whispered in her ear.

“Well, you see who he here with, so, leave him alone,” Octavia whispered back.

Jholee sighed and pulled away from her to embrace Octavia’s boyfriend, Marcus.

“Lil’ sis. It’s been a minute. You don’t even fuck with cha boy no more. I keep telling you I got a homie that’s trying to fuck with you,” Marcus said, like Major wasn’t standing behind her.

Marcus was a hood dude, much like Major and TK, but he wasn’t with the cheating and shit. He didn’t care what he said or who he said it around because he knew that couldn’t nobody whoop his ass. Octavia liked men that looked like linebackers, so Marcus was six foot two and weighed almost two hundred and fifty pounds.

“My G, don’t act like you don’t see me standing right here. Jholee ain’t single no more. Watch ya mouth about that one, for real,” Major said, pulling Jholee back to him, and wrapping his arm around her.

“Like I said…” Marcus said and walked up to the kiosk to get him and Octavia’s tickets.

Major went to the other kiosk to purchase their tickets while TK went to the ticket booth to purchase his and, they assumed, Riley’s tickets. We walked in and everybody gave the lady their tickets.

The lady stopped Riley, and said, “Where is your ticket?”

  “TK, you ain’t buy my—”

“You know damn well I ain’t buy your ticket. What you think this is?” TK snapped.

Riley had to go back outside and purchase her ticket and come back inside. Everybody was standing in line before Major had to take a phone call. He walked away, leaving Jholee standing there with Octavia, Marcus, and TK. Riley was behind a few people that wouldn’t let her pass them, but she definitely kept her eyes on TK and Jholee.

“You look nice,” TK spoke so low that only Jholee could hear him as Marcus and Octavia were engrossed in their own conversation.

“Don’t talk to me,” Jholee whispered back.

  “I ain’t about to beg—”

“Then don’t. You have company anyway.”

“I only came because I wanted to see you, Jo.”

Jholee’s body stilled and her body started to feel light. She couldn’t believe that TK had said that.

  “Well—”

“Baby, I got to cut out,” Major came over and interrupted her sentence to TK. “Please forgive me, I have to make a couple moves, ma. I’m going to try and make it back before the movie is over, if not, I’m really sorry.”

“Can it wait? This is our first official date, Major.”

“There will be plenty more, I promise. Ride home with Octavia if I don’t make it back,” Major said and kissed her on her forehead.

Major had to leave because Chey had been blowing his phone up and was threatening to post his business on social media if he didn’t come and dick her down. He had to get on down because he ain’t want to chance it. Jholee watched him walk out the door. She tore her eyes away from the door when the man at the counter called for her. She approached the counter and wanted to get the pizza and drink, but she hadn’t been to work in three weeks, so she barely had any money in her bank account.

“Uh, I’ll just take a box of skittles,” Jholee said.

The man handed her the skittles and she paid for it and went down to the counter to wait with Octavia and Marcus.
