We chatted a bit more about what was going to happen to her, as well as the general state of the clan. “Thank Jaxson, too. I know he had a big hand in solving this case.”
I smiled. “He did.” And so did Iggy.
“I know I should be telling you that it is wrong for you to insert yourself into so many of our cases, but I have to admit, your information has proven to be invaluable once more,” Steve said.
Heat flushed my face at the unexpected compliment. “Thank you. I’m guessing you were able to prove that Carl killed Dirk?”
“Yes, we found the green bowling ball he used in the back of his closet. Not only that, the scoring mechanism never showed they played a game.”
Just as I suggested. “I’m glad the case is closed. By the way, this weekend, I am hosting a small get together here to celebrate the opening of our new business, and I’d like you two to come.”
“We’ll be there. Thank you.”
“Since I’m inviting all of the gossip queens, it might be in your best interest to make a connection with them.”
Steve smiled. “I’m working on it.”
“Oh, before you leave, I have a favor to ask.” I held my breath, hoping he’d agree.
“I knew all of your information wasn’t for free.” Steve’s smile told me he was kidding.
“Since my father doesn’t have a ring like Nash’s, I thought maybe he could borrow—”
“The garnet necklace that we keep in the bank’s safety deposit box?” Steve asked.
“Yes. I know both necklaces belong to Emma Paxton, but I bet I could get her to agree to lend it to us. I don’t want Dad to have it for longer than necessary. If those clan members ever found out, who knows what they would do,” I said.
“I agree,” Nash said. “That’s why Hunter and I are working on a cure that we will only give to those we trust.”
My knees weakened. “For real?”
“For real.”
“Who will you ask to do the spell?”
“We aren’t sure, but we’ll find someone,” Nash said.
As soon as they left, I raced down the back staircase to give Jaxson the news. He was on his computer. If I had to guess, he was ordering wine and maybe some cheese.
He looked up. “You seem happy.”
“I am ecstatic.”
Jaxson closed the lid. “Tell me.”
I started with how Steve—using our information—was able to prove that Lucy Owens killed Carl Edwards, and I ended with Steve being willing to lend my father the garnet necklace for when the moon was full.
“You did it! If it weren’t for you, Lucy would be a free woman,” Jaxson said.
“You played an equal role.”
He puffed out his chest. “I did, didn’t I?” Then he laughed. “You do realize that once Iggy gets wind of all of this that he will be impossible to live with.”
“He already is impossible to live with.”
“I say this calls for a celebration to a job well done.”
“I’m always up for celebrating. What do you have in mind?” I asked.
“I’d like to try that steak restaurant again in Hudson. This time we won’t be so focused on avoiding Nash.”
“That is a great idea. Doesn’t it seem like a lifetime ago?”
“It does. And to add to the celebratory vibe, I, too, will be decked out in pink.”
I laughed. The more time I spent with Jaxson Harrison, the more I liked him.
I hope you enjoyed seeing more of the townsfolk of Witch’s Cove, and experiencing the life of her familiar, Iggy. Opening her own Pink Iguana Sleuth company with Jaxson Harrison certainly brought a whole new dimension to her life.
