So instead, I took a calming breath before I looked at everyone else in the room. Robyn and Mo sat on either side of me, and Fiona, Julia, and Tasha had taken the other seats around the living room.

Willow was still upstairs, but the girls didn’t appear to be concerned about that, so I wasn’t, either.

“Basically, Samantha and I talked while we were outside, and...”

“You talked,” Samantha cut in. “I told you exactly how I felt.”

“Isn’t that the same thing?” Fiona snickered.

“Sorry, do you want to tell the story now?” I raised my eyebrows at the sullen witch. “I thought you were happy with me explaining everything.”

“Yeah, sure.” Samantha threw another chip toward her mouth, but she missed and it landed on her chest.

I rolled my eyes at her childish attitude.

“To cut a long story short, Samantha now thinks we should try and find Chrissy,” I said, to which everyone in the room gasped. “Regardless of what happened that night, it’s important you all know the truth, her family can finally get some answers, and you won’t lose yourselves to theories, either.”

“Even if she doesn’t want to be found, it’ll be nice for us to sleep peacefully for once,” Tasha said with a small smile as she quickly unwrapped a blue lollipop and popped it in her mouth.

I looked over at Samantha as Tasha said that, and although she was still munching on her chips, she did have a thoughtful expression on her face.

“Tasha…” Samantha sighed, and then she sat up straight and placed her bowl of chips on the table beside her. “Look, there’s a chance Chrissy might not have a say in whether she wants to be found or not…”

A heavy silence filled the room, and Tasha brought her lollipop out of her mouth and stared down at the sucker as her brows came together in a frown.

“We know,” Fiona said quietly. “Because there’s a chance she might not be alive anymore.”

  “You knew that?” Samantha frowned.

“Of course, we did,” Tasha replied. “We’re aware of the… dangers of someone going out alone, especially in the state Chrissy was in that night.”

“Then why didn’t you say anything?” Samantha asked.

“Because we all saw how hard you tried to protect us.” Fiona smiled sadly. “You never said anything when we discussed the possibility of Chrissy coming home, but we saw through you, and we knew you were hurting. But we wanted to remain positive, and sometimes you would smile with us when we planned things to do with Chrissy, so we didn’t want to take that smile away from you.”

Samantha played with her bottom lip as sadness coated her eyes, but she removed that expression from her face before it stayed there for too long.

“But there is the chance she’s still alive,” Julia said hopefully. “Maybe she just needed to be free, and maybe she wanted to get away from the void. After all, the void caused her to act like that during the party.”

I smiled at the pastel goth, and I really wanted to hold her in my arms and place kisses all over her pale face. But I locked my fingers together instead, and I did everything I could to ignore the urges.

“Yes, but if that’s the case, then why hasn’t she tried to make contact with me?” Samantha asked. “And why… Why can’t I hear her thoughts anymore?”

“If…” Robyn paused for a second. “If the void caused Chrissy to change and act differently, is there a chance she might have forgotten who she was before that night? Perhaps she doesn’t remember this house anymore?”

“Yeah, and maybe she’s too far away for you to hear her thoughts, Sam,” Julia agreed.

“Anything can happen when it comes to the void,” Tasha explained. “If you get caught like a fly in a spider’s web, the void can make you see and think whatever it wants. It is possible Chrissy didn’t know where she was, or even who she was on the night she disappeared. But it’s also just as possible that she ran from the house, maybe with the intention of letting off some steam, but then something awful happened to her after that. There are plenty of theories for us to discuss and digest, but there’s only one way for us to really find out what happened…”

Everyone glanced over at me, and I almost wanted to laugh at the six pairs of eyes trained in my direction.

“Okay, how do we do this?” I asked. “Do I just tap into Chrissy’s energy like I did with the ghostly witches the other night?”

“I’m thinking that without knowing where she is, that’s not really possible.” Julia smiled. “You tapped into the witches’ energies the other night, but you were right near where their souls were. Where their magical energy resides to this day. But we have something that you may be able to tap into. Something that should hold Chrissy’s energy in it. Sam?”

“Okay…” Samantha sighed, and then she heaved herself off her chair and left the room.

She didn’t sound annoyed, she sounded scared. Almost like she knew this had to happen, but she was hesitant to get started.

However, despite what she thought, Samantha returned to the room a couple of minutes later, and this time she held a small plastic baggie with a gold chain inside.

“This was Chrissy’s conduit.” Samantha gave me a stern look. “Imagine you’re holding your damn hamster. Do not even think about messing around with this.”

“I’m not going to do anything to damage the necklace,” I said honestly. “It’s just as important to me as it is to you.”

“Hmm, I doubt that,” Samantha mumbled, but then she handed me the bag. “I’ve kept this safe since the night we found it, and apart from my own conduit, this necklace is the only thing I’d run into a burning building for.”

“Grayson isn’t going to damage the necklace, Sam,” Julia spoke up. “He’s our master. Our coven is incredibly important to him.”

“Where did you find it?” I asked as I inspected the golden chain.

It wasn’t exactly dainty, but it wasn’t overly thick, either. The gold was slightly tarnished, so I imagined the necklace was old, and hidden beneath the coiled chain was an oval-shaped pendant. I couldn’t see if there was anything on the pendant, but I kept the bag closed until I was ready to use the conduit.

“It was lying on the sidewalk outside.” Samantha motioned in the rough direction of the library. “Chrissy never took the necklace off, but the lock was broken when we found it, so we assumed she pulled it so hard that the chain broke.”

“Daaaamn,” Mo whistled. “She must have had some Hulk-like strength to break that.”

“Chains aren’t that difficult to break,” Julia replied. “Trust me, sometimes I like to test out the durability of some chains to see if I can break free from them. Plus, the adrenaline must have been pouring through her veins, so that could have also resulted in her having the strength to break it.”

I tried desperately hard not to think about Julia tied up in chains. But in my mind, Julia was tied to a bed with her entire body on show, and I was the puppeteer who controlled her every move.

“Okay,” I cleared my throat to remove the mouthwatering sight from my mind. “Shall we go down to the basement, then?”

Julia gave me a small smirk, but she removed it before anyone else saw.

“Follow me, Master!” she giggled as she jumped to her feet.

“Are you okay to stay here?” I asked Robyn with one hand on the small of her back.

  “Of course.” She smiled.

“I’ll keep her company, bro.” Mo punched my shoulder lightly. “Tasha mentioned something about more Nutter Butters in the kitchen, so we’ll be able to keep ourselves entertained.”

“That sounds like a great time,” I chuckled, then I gave Robyn a quick kiss before I stood up from the couch. “I don’t think I’ll be too long.”

“Take all the time you need, Master,” Fiona said. “Tasha and Julia are setting everything up in the basement, but don’t feel like you need to rush anything once you’re down there.”

“Okay.” I nodded as I let out a deep breath.

The tethering process was somewhat daunting to begin with, but tapping into Chrissy’s energy was completely different, and there was a lot riding on it. I knew the girls would understand if I couldn’t connect myself to Chrissy’s conduit, but I also felt like I had to do this, not just for my coven, but for Chrissy, too.

I just had to get down there, start the process, and see what happened after that.

Tasha and Julia were in the middle of setting up the candles when I walked into the basement.

“One of us will stay with you, Master,” Tasha said as she placed a lit match against the wick of the candle. “But we can’t sit with you, otherwise you’ll connect to our energy instead of Chrissy’s. We’ll stand at the door, whisper the spell, but the rest of it will be down to you.”

“I can do that,” I replied. “And can I remove the necklace from the bag? Will the conduit even work if something’s covering it?”

“It’ll still work.” Julia nodded. “We just keep it in the bag for protection, but you can remove it if you want to.”

I held the plastic bag securely in my hands, and I almost felt scared to hold it because of how valuable the necklace was. With that in mind, I made the decision to keep the necklace in the bag. I didn’t want to risk anything happening to it.

“Okay, Master.” Tasha blew out the lit match, and a stream of smoke wafted toward me. “Julia will stay with you, but do whatever you can to ignore her. You need to focus on Chrissy.”

I almost laughed, because I hadn’t been able to ignore Julia for two days. But Tasha wasn’t in on the secret, so I bit back the smirk before it appeared.

  “I’ll… I’ll see you upstairs when I’m done, I suppose.” I smiled.

“Take all the time you need.” Tasha pulled her long blonde hair over one shoulder, and then she gave me a smile as she turned on her foot and ran up the basement stairs.

“It would be so easy to take advantage of this silence,” Julia whispered once the basement door closed behind Tasha. “And I know you heard what I said about chains.”

“Don’t, I’ve only just removed those images from my mind,” I snickered.

Julia gave me the cutest smile, and then she placed her hands on my shoulders as she leaned up to give me a kiss. The sweet scent of her perfume blew over me like a cloud, and my cock twitched against my pants simply from the way her lips brushed against mine.

“You’re a fucking tease,” I growled as I gave her ass a squeeze.

“I know.” She smirked. “But now it’s tethering tiiime!”

I gave Julia’s ass a quick slap, only because it was so tempting underneath that tiny little skirt, and then she let out a quiet shriek as she skipped for the stairs.

To soothe the horny, devilish creature inside me, I thought of anything and everything that would extinguish the flames. I pictured Mo, in nothing but his boxers, eating a giant slice of pizza and washing it all down with a can of root beer.

“Okay, that did it,” I laughed as I sat down on the wooden floorboards with all five candles around me.

I placed the plastic bag carefully in front of me, but then I held my hands over the bag with the hope that would form a stronger connection with Chrissy and her conduit.

“Alright, Master, whenever you’re ready,” Julia said from the stairs.

I evened out my breathing, closed my eyes, and then I gave Julia the signal when I was ready to go.

As Julia began to whisper the spell, I pictured Chrissy clearly in my mind. The picture in the living room showed a girl with wild, curly brown hair that had been tamed back with a yellow headband. Her eyes were the color of melted chocolate, and her smile was warm and inviting.

I focused on the chaotic state of her hair, and I imagined that was something Chrissy was famous for. I remembered that she wanted to be a dancer, but that she also couldn’t decide whether to study ballet, criminology, or cooking.

Everyone who spoke about Chrissy had nothing but loving things to say about her. She was highly intelligent, sweet, and compassionate. Her older brother, Jamie, still lived in Brooklyn with their parents, and they had always been a close family.

I didn’t know an awful lot about Chrissy, but it was enough to create a profile in my mind, and I pictured this crazy-haired girl dancing through my mind as the tethering process continued.

All of a sudden, as the figure twirled around in front of my eyes, purple, pink, and silver lights began to flash around me. Some of the lights twisted around the dancing girl, and it began to look like they were performing rhythmic gymnastics with colorful ribbons spinning around her flexible body.

I followed the lights as they began to move, and I leaped through the darkness of my mind. It all felt like a festering ball of uncertainty, and as the lights began to travel off in different directions, I had to make sure I chose the right route to follow.

The looming presence of the void was always at the back of my mind, and there was the chance one of the lights could have taken me straight into the void’s trap.

I couldn’t allow the void to take control, and I had to find Chrissy’s magical energy. But I was completely alone, with only my thoughts as company, so only I could make the decision.

I wasn’t sure what caused it, but for some reason I felt more inclined to follow the pink light, so I began to follow it before I could change my mind.

I briefly returned to the basement as I followed the light, and I felt the edge of the golden chain beneath my fingers, as well as the soft plastic that covered the necklace.

The necklace was the only thing I had to connect myself to Chrissy, and I focused intently on the conduit as the other half of my brain kept a close eye on the pink light.

All of a sudden, as I ran my finger across the coils of the chain, an electrical buzz began to zap through my skin. As that happened, a bouquet of flowers began to bloom around the pink light. Some of the flowers were wilting, whereas others were full of life and color.

  It was Chrissy’s gift.

Her gift involved flowers, and she had such a love for gardening.

The flowers in my mind were various shades of blue, yellow, red, and purple, and they began to sprout all around me, like the most colorful meadow on a shiny, summer’s day.

The buzzing in my fingers increased as more flowers bloomed around me, and I knew that was Chrissy’s “flavor.” I’d tethered myself to her magical energy, and even as I retraced myself and returned to the basement, it felt like Chrissy was standing right in front of me.

I knew that wasn’t possible, and it was more than likely just the tethering that made it feel like that, but it showed me how strong the connection was, and that the process had definitely worked.

“Grayson?” Julia whispered. “Are you okay, Master?”

“I’m okay,” I said as I slowly opened my eyes. “That was… a lot.”

The blue light around the closet was shining bright, one of the candles had blown out, and there was still a light buzz in my fingertips.

“You can say that again,” Julia laughed. “I’ve never seen the closet shine quite like that before. It was flickering on and off like a broken flashlight.”

“Huh.” I frowned. “It didn’t even feel that powerful, either. It actually felt quite easy to connect myself to Chrissy’s energy.”

“You did it?” Julia gasped. “Oh, my god, Grayson! You did it!”

I picked up the necklace and stood up just in time for Julia to race over. She danced around the candles as she blew them out, and the excitement practically exploded from her.

“We have to tell the others!” she exclaimed. “Holy shit, I can’t believe it worked! I mean, I can, of course, because you’re excellent, but there was the chance it might not have worked, you know? Does that even make any sort of sense?”

“I know what you mean, and yes, it made sense,” I laughed.

“Ahaaaa!” Julia launched herself into the air, and her skirt flew up to her stomach for a brief second to reveal the black thong she had on underneath. “Chrissy, Chrissy, Chrissy!”

“I like seeing you so excited.” I smiled.

“I like feeling excited!” Julia jumped around, and then she placed a loud kiss on my cheek. “Come on, come on, we have to tell the others!”

Julia took a hold of my hand before she skipped up the stairs, and she didn’t let go of it until she’d taken me into the kitchen where the others were waiting.

“Grayson did it!” she announced to the room.

Fiona and Tasha shrieked before they ran over, Samantha’s eyes widened in shock, and even Willow looked intrigued.

I was surprised to see her in the kitchen, but it was nice to see that she didn’t want to hide from me forever.

Mo and Robyn were at the marble breakfast bar with a packet of Nutter Butters in front of them, and they also came over to me once the girls had returned to their seats.

“What was it like, bro?” Mo asked. “Tell me everything.”

“Give him a minute to recover first, Mohala,” Robyn said sternly. “Grayson might need to unwind before he explains everything.”

“Thank you.” I smiled at my English Rose. “Honestly, I’m okay, it was just a lot.”

“Tell us!” Fiona bounced lightly on her barstool. “What did you feel? What was it like?”

Tasha moved off her stool to give me a place to sit, and everyone seemed to lean in closer as I made myself comfortable. I handed Samantha the necklace back, and she held it close to her chest before she slipped it into her pocket.

“It was…” I paused as I tried to remember what even happened. “Well, I thought about what Chrissy looked like, and how she was a great dancer and loved flowers. I also thought about how intelligent and compassionate she was, too. I also had the feeling her curly hair was almost famous because of how chaotic it was.”

“That sounds like Chrissy.” Samantha smiled at the breakfast bar, but that expression quickly changed to one of sadness. “She put everyone before herself, and every morning I heard cries of anger coming from her room as she tried to tame her hair. Apparently she’s had hair like that since she was a baby, and everyone who knows Chrissy describes her wild hair.”
