The Fear Makers, page 27
They say if I follow the treatments and the exercises I might be able even to dance with you, now and then. We’ll find another sea-green dress. You see, while I’ve been waiting here, I’ve found out. I’m not scared any more. I had to know if it was more than merely something that could be removed by another operation. Until I found out for sure, until I went through it again in my own head and knew for sure, I couldn’t have you come to Boston.
It’s all right now. I’m finished being in the catastrophic realm. And I love you. I believe I’ve always loved you, even before I saw you. When I first saw you that night it was as though I’d previously seen you, remembered you from some place before. Maybe we’ll find that place together.
I wanted to start at the beginning so you would understand how it was when I arrived in Washington, D. C., and I want you to know that I know, myself, now. Please don’t ever forget. Please remember it always, no matter what happens tomorrow.
You showed me how. You opened all the doors. I’ve got home, at last. I’ve done with running from all the hobgoblins and fear makers.
