Breaking and Entering of the Heart, page 7
part #1 of Shadow Bobbies Series
“My son will be fine, Skylar. Why don’t you tell us about this small beast you have that some of the men won’t come near,” Finch’s father asked, drawing her attention.
“Small beast,” Skyler said and smiled as she turned to Felix spread across Finch’s mother. She could hear his purring as Etuphi pet him.
“When he makes that sound, he’s happy. Trevor found Felix in a trash can. He knew I’d love him and brought him home for me. His kind is called Maine Coon Cats and are larger than your normal cats as you can see.”
Skylar joined Etuphi on the couch. “They are very protective, so when Finch’s men tried to get Felix in the cage, well, it didn’t go so well.” She laughed. “Ever since then, Finch has been leery around Felix, but I think last night the two started to bond a little. I swear, Felix knows when I need him. Ever since Trevor’s death, he’s been curled around me when I sleep or when I’m sad.”
The scanner crackled, and she froze hearing the chief’s voice. “10-7 bank now,” he ordered, and she frowned, getting up, moving to the windows again.
“What is 10-7?” his father asked.
She looked over her shoulder at him. “Out of Service, why do you think—” she started to say when the building rocked and loud explosions down below lit up the sky. “Oh my god, he’s trying to blow up the building!”
“Remain calm, my son and his men have already reinforced this building, we should be fine,” his father said right before he yanked her away from the window and yelled, “Down now!”
One thing was for sure, Finch’s father was as big as his son as the air was knocked out of her. Her ears were ringing, and she swore the heat in the room rose to a point where her arms, face, and legs were burning.
“The chief finally got what he wanted,” she cried out as someone lifted her up, but Skylar could see nothing. This was not the worst of it, she couldn’t seem to get enough air into her lungs, it burned to breathe. Yea, the chief had kept his promise, she would belong to no one if he couldn’t have her.
“Skylar!” Finch yelled at her, but she couldn’t answer, she was just too tired, and every part of her hurt.
“I swear, if you don’t open those eyes, I’m going to spank your ass,” he growled.
“Don’t, it’s the only part that does not hurt right now, and quit yelling,” she finally got out as she tried to open her eyes.
“They are stuck,” she said.
“Here, place this over her face, it will help with the healing, and the scent will help her breathe easier,” someone, not Finch, said as a cool, very thin cloth was put over her face. At first, she swore they were trying to suffocate her, but when Skylar finally could take a deep breath, the pain inside her seemed to ease. Her breathing was getting easier, and the skin on her face cooled to the point it didn’t hurt.
“Put her down on the table, we need to strip these burnt clothes off of her. How are your parents?” she heard the man say, and that is when everything again started to come back to her.
“How long was I out? Are your parents okay? Oh my god, your father he covered me.” She gritted her teeth as the pain soared again as she opened her eyes. “Finch?”
Everything was black. She could see nothing. “We might have a small problem here. I can’t see anything.”
Chapter Eleven
Finch was furious as was every single one of his men. Not only was their building in pieces, but his folks and his forever soul could also have been killed. If the chief weren’t dead, Finch would personally find him and destroy the man slowly.
Hearing and seeing the pain his woman was in, even though his father had tried to shield her as best as possible was tearing his heart apart.
His parents’ protection shield had saved them from getting hurt too badly while his woman bore the brunt of the injuries this night and day. It had taken them three hours to reach his folks, and now, after healing most of his woman’s internal wounds, she had finally awakened after hours.
He had come close to losing her. “Relax, little mayor, you are still healing; your eyesight will come back. Luster, if you will leave the pounits, I will personally see to my woman from here.” Finch looked up at Breaker. “I owe you much for saving her. You and my father both.”
Luster shook his head. “She is part of you, you are our leader, friend, so she is also part of us always. If you need me at all, do not hesitate to reach out. I’ll inform your parents she is going to be fine.”
Finch nodded and slowly started to peel away what clothes were left on her. They had waited to peel them away allowing the pounits to soak through her clothes and work their magic.
“Where are we?” Skylar asked.
“We are in the building next to the one we were in. We were slowly transforming it into our permeant housing. My men have honored us with the first unit to be completed.
“Tell them thank you for me. Explain to me what happened last night. It was last night, I take it?” She flinched when a piece of cloth tugged at her delicate skin.
“We cornered the chief and most of his men. He had over ten boys, girls, and a few women to be transported to another city. They are now getting help at your local hospital. What we didn’t expect was for him to try and take out the whole building, and for that, I am truly sorry, Skylar. When I heard him give the order and we were on the other side of town...” Finch stopped what he was doing, closing his eyes for a second when he felt her gentle touch on his arm.
He opened his eyes to see her staring at him. She smiled. I see your shape, and I have to say, you are awfully big, just like your dad. I can’t wait to give him a big hug. I know I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for him.”
“You are his daughter now. If we lost you, my soul would be lost, too. We are one,” he told her and started again to remove the material.
“Will I be able to do some of the things your people can do?” she asked. “Like protect myself?”
“Somewhat, yes, but you will always be a little vulnerable. Being born on our planet, for some reason, we have extra protection to our skin that helps keep us safe. You will never have this, I’m afraid, but you will live as long as I do,” Finch explained, removing the last of her clothes on her left side while covering her with new pounits.
“How long do you think it will take to heal?” She yawned.
“A few days at least.” He leaned down and gently kissed her lips. “Rest, my little mayor, you are safe. The chief is gone, and my men are rounding up the last in this city that we know of.”
Skylar sighed. “Don’t forget the one in the state police, we need that one, Finch. Oh, have I told you that I love you yet?” Skylar started to mumble, and he knew she was going to go into a deep sleep to heal.
“We will work on your timing, my little mayor, but I love you, too, my forever heart.” He placed a kiss on the top of her head and continued stripping her of the burnt clothing. His love for his woman was beyond anything he had ever experienced in his life. Now he understood what his father and mother had been trying to teach him.
His life, his forever soul, his little mayor.
