Dani and Tommy took off running back down the steps to the first floor cafeteria looking for Jasmine. When they reached it Jasmine was not inside. Tommy glanced out the window and saw Dr. Amadon closing the trunk of his car and driving away. They ran out to their car and sped after him with their sirens bellowing.
In ten minutes they caught up to him on Hwy sixteen. He wasn’t speeding. They got behind him but he didn’t pull over. They flew up alongside him and Dani motion for him to pull over. He complied. They approached his vehicle with both their weapons drawn. Dani on the driver’s side and Tommy on the passenger’s side. Dani yelled at Doctor Amadon, “Put both your hands out the window... slowly!” The doctor listened. Dani handcuffed him and open the door. The doctor said. “Relax Detective I won’t do anything stupid.”
Dani replied, “Doc, I think you did a lot worse than just stupid.”
Tommy open the trunk of the car expecting to see Jasmine but to his surprise the only thing there was a briefcase.
Dani snarled and pushed the doctor hard against the car, “Where the fuck is she you sick son of a bitch!”
The doctor grinned, “I assure you I don’t know what you’re talking about Detective.”
Dani’s cell rang, so she pulled him forward and slammed him back against the car again. “Tommy, read this piece of shit his rights and put him in the car.
When finished on the phone she got back in the car and told Tommy the search warrants were a go and made sure it was said in a loud enough tone that their guess in the backseat overheard.
Chapter Eighteen
Back at the precinct the whole Stoney Creek force were gearing up to go the Amadon property to execute the warrants. Including the chief. When they rolled out there were twenty two black and whites and six unmarks. With all their sirens and lights flashing they made a hell of a presence rolling through town. When they flew past the hospital they took the ramp onto the highway and went speeding signal file down the road, with Dani and Tommy taking the lead.
Dani had one urgency, and that was finding Jasmine.
When they rolled onto the property the double iron gate was closed. Two armed men walked down to them from the security shack and the chief served them the warrants. They looked disappointed but open the gates. Half of the force went to the house and the other half went to the stable. Dani and Tommy opted for the stable.
When they pulled in a Caucasian man came out of the barn and ran towards the woods but was quickly tackled by two officers and put in a squad car. Dougs RV was missing. Dani saw the damaged steel door and felt proud of Jasmine. The office was all cleared out. The desk, computer and phone were gone. Inside, one room at a time were searched. Some had cots in them and some didn’t. The man who ran didnt have time to clear them all.
The last room was on the right and had a red door. Dani turned the door knob and it open. With her Glock in the ready position she proceeded in the room and saw a monster of a man holding an ax above his head. Then she noticed the intended target…..Jasmine. She was strapped down to a stainless steel table with her mouth gaged. Her eyes were big. Dani put the front sights of her Glock on the man’s head and squeezed the trigger hitting her target. The man fell and was dead before he hit the ground.
Dani ran over to Jasmine and took her gag off and stated to unbuckle the brown leather straps holding her down. “You ok sweety?” Crying she sat up on the table and hugged Dani. He forced me out of the hospital by a gun and was going to kill me. Thank you.” She looked at the man lying on the floor with blood coming from the back of his head spewing all over the floor. “Is he dead?” Dani replied, “Yes he’s dead honey.” Jasmine jumped off the table and grabbed a knife that was laying on a silver tray with other instruments and cut the man’s shirt open. Dani grabbed her wrist, “What are you doing Jasmine?” “He’s the one who burned me with the word whore.” Dani looked at the man then back at Jasmine and hesitated and let her wrist go. Jasmine took the knife and cut big letters across his chest, HOPE.
When they walked out of the barn Tommy walked up to them, “Dani you need to come see this.”
Behind the barn a huge fire was smoldering with the missing cots. Under the cots were multiple human bones, some still had flesh. They had re-caught and burned all the girls that escaped that night. Jasmine cried, “Nooo!” in anguish and fell to her knees weeping.
Tommy kicked a mattress still smoking and a small pink hair barrette was under it untouched by the fire. He bent down and picked it up and stared at it in his hand and softly cried.
The Chief found the same situration at the big house. A fire in the back yard trying to destroy evidence but there was still plenty to make sure the doctor would never see the light of day again.
Later in the integration room when Dani had Doctor Amadon remove his shirt she saw his birthmark. It was just like Jasmine described, shaped like an ice cream cone adding to the long list of incriminating evidence against him.
Doctor Novak was able to find out that Dr. Amadon injected a high dose of a methamphetamine into Kittys IV drip and that’s what caused her cardiac arrest. She survived and a few weeks later could go home. Jasmine visits regularly and both see the same physiatrist.
The trial made headlines all over the country for six months and all the money Paul Amadon had didn’t amount to a hill of beans. He was found guilty on all charges and received a death sentence along with Doug. Gregory got a life sentence. Sixteen other men were located and charged thanks to Dougs client list.
All but three of the girls burned were identified. Some had been missing for years.
Three months later the inmates at Seattle’s SeaTac moved Paul Amadons execution date up early. He was found dead with his penis removed and inserted in his anus.
Dougs cell mate was a body builder, and it was rumored Doug was now his little bitch.
Internal affairs found no fault with the Stoney Creek police department. Officer Baker got full blame.
Dani and Tommy visit both girls and take turns patrolling the unincorporated counties. Dani asked the coroner out and she accepted.
Tommy spends more time with his kids and less time trying to hustle women. He keeps that pink barrette in his pocket to remind him how blessed he truly is.
Four months ago Jasmine wanted to die. Today her feeling of DESPAIR is replaced with the feeling of HOPE!
