  Epilogue

  Introduction

  Hello, lovely readers!

First, let me say thank you for purchasing this novel. Please be forewarned that it contains mature language, explicit detailed sexual scenes, and mild violence.

This book is the second in my Men in Uniform series. I hope you all enjoy getting to know Journee and Killian and have fun on their sweet and steamy journey.

That’s enough from me. Go ahead and turn that page!

Journee rummaged through Kaydence's closet as her friend sat at her vanity doing her make-up. She had gone through the closet so many times that she always knew when Kaydence had purchased something new, and as was her duty as a best friend, Journee always made sure she borrowed it. She saw nothing new since Kaydence had purchased a new pair of heels two weeks ago.

Picking up the shoes, she looked them over. She hadn't gotten a chance to get a good look at them the first time she saw them, but now that she had, she could envision the perfect outfit to wear.

“I have an event I'll be planning in a few weeks, and these would go well with the outfit I want to wear,” Journee spoke, turning to Kaydence.

Her friend looked over. “You do know that my closet isn't a department store, correct?”

“Yes, but why buy clothes all the time when my best friend is a fashionista that can serve outfits to the gods,” Journee retorted with a smirk, and Kaydence laughed, shaking her head.

“Stop acting like you can't do the same. But sure, you can borrow them for your event. I will have worn them by then anyway.”

“Thanks,” Journee responded with a smile, placing the shoes back where she had gotten them.

She hadn't intended to try to wear the shoes before Kaydence; that wasn't how they operated. Neither of them minded the other borrowing something of theirs as long as they had already worn it first. Afterward, it was fair game, and their one rule was to return something they'd borrowed within three days, which meant they had an abundance of clothes, shoes, and jewelry at their disposal.

Journee had tried the same thing when she was younger with her sisters. But Aariah never was one to return anything that she borrowed, always feigning ignorance as if she never had it when Journee asked for it back, and Aryah would lose the item. However, Journee was sure that Aariah was taking them.

Once Kaydence was dressed, they went down the hall and into the living room to wait for the other women to pick them up. They were going out to some bar tonight. Journee wasn't usually fond of bars, but it was Zuri's turn to choose where they went, and that had been what she'd chosen.

It was also her baby sister's turn to be the designated driver though she knew Aryah wouldn't mind too much. She wasn't the biggest drinker.

“Season two of our show will be on Netflix next week,” Kaydence told her.

“I'm so ready to see what's going to happen. You can make us snacks, and we can binge it.”

“You just want me to bake you something,” Kaydence responded as they heard a horn blow, and Journee didn't deny her claim.

Once they were in Nova's Durango, Aryah driving, they headed to pick up Talia, Kaydence’s older sister, and Alivia. Journee had to prepare herself for the latter-named woman mentally. She had never gotten along with her. Even when she was a freshman in high school and Alivia was a senior. There had always just been something about her that Journee felt craved attention far too much and went out of her way to get it.

But because she was Talia's friend, Journee tolerated her in a group setting, though she never went out of her way to strike up a conversation with her. The opposite was actually true. She tried her best not to talk to Alivia, but it never failed that the other woman would say something stupid, and Journee had never been one to hold her tongue. If she had to guess, she would say the other women felt the same way as she did about Alivia, aside from Talia and possibly Nova and Aryah.

Like Journee, they all pretty much hung out with Alivia in group settings because of her friendship with Talia. It wasn't unlike how most of their friendships started. Journee had first begun hanging out with Zuri and Nova because her sister Aryah and Zuri had become best friends when they took dance classes together for a few years when they were younger, and Zuri was Nova's cousin. With them, however, unlike with Alivia, she had formed actual friendships.

They pulled up to Talia's house, and the two women got in. Journee spoke to Talia, though she would not go out of her way to be rude, so she made it sound like a general greeting.

The ride to the bar only took about fifteen minutes, and once they'd all gotten out of the car, Journee brought up the rear of the group, rolling her eyes as Alivia began talking way too loudly as a group of men walked by. She hadn't known she'd scoffed until her little sister bumped her.

“Try not to get into it with her tonight,” Aariah requested, and Journee would have been offended that her sister thought she would do such a thing if it weren't for the fact that it always seemed to happen.

“As long as she doesn't irritate me, then we'll be fine,” Journee told her with a shrug, slinging her arm over the shorter woman's shoulders.

“Her breathing irritates you.” Was spoken from the other side of her, and she found Zuri shaking her head. Journee couldn't even defend herself because, well, she wasn't wrong.

They had only been seated for a few minutes when Journee looked up and saw Axel approaching them. Her eyes slid to Alivia only momentarily to find her looking intensely over a drink menu. Turning her head just in time, she watched Axel kiss Kaydence as if he'd never see her again.

She didn't pay attention to what was said because one of the men in the group Axel had come from caught her attention, and from the way those intense eyes looked her over, she seemed to have his as well. When her friend’s boyfriend walked off, Journee noticed some of the men in the group placing money in his hand.

“I know he didn't just use me in a bet,” Kaydence stated, and Journee found herself trying to hide an amused smile, mainly because she knew that even though her friend tried to sound as if she were mad, she wasn't.

When Axel returned, he invited them to join him and his friends, and before any of them could say a word, Alivia had spoken for all of them. As if he'd issued the invitation to her only. It took everything in Journee not to roll her eyes. She followed behind the group of women, taking a seat in one of the empty chairs in the new area, and she could feel those eyes on her.

Journee looked on as her sisters attempted to play darts. She used the word attempted because they'd only each gotten two darts on the board in the several games they'd played. As she watched them, Journee saw Aryah’s hand slightly shaking as she brought it up to throw her next dart.

“Ryah,” she called, gaining the youngest twin's attention. Her baby sister looked over at her. “When was the last time you checked your blood sugar?”

Her sister thought for a moment. “Maybe about four hours ago.”

“Check it for me, please,” Journee requested.

  “I feel fine,” Aryah responded.

Journee knew that her sister didn't like being fussed over, but she also knew that Aryah couldn't always immediately tell when she felt ill.

“Here,” Aariah stated, pulling Aryah’s small monitor from her crossbody purse. It never failed that one of them always had an extra on them if Aryah forgot hers. “Just check it.”

Journee watched as her sister checked her blood sugar, it only taking a moment to display the numbers on the screen. Then Aariah began to dig through her crossbody a

gain.

“I don't have any peppermints. It's a bit low,” Aariah informed.

“I'll get you some orange juice,” Journee stated.

“We're in a bar, Journ,” Aryah informed her as if she'd forgotten.

“A bar with mimosa on the menu, so they have orange juice.”

Deciding that she would take drink orders from everyone, she went around asking, going over to Axel and Kaydence last since they seemed to be finishing a conversation.

Kaydence volunteered to go to the bar with Journee to help carry the drinks back, which she was grateful for because she hadn't thought of how she would return with them alone. They had just finished placing the orders and were waiting when she heard her name being called.

  “Journee.”

Turning around, she saw David standing there, and she refrained from rolling her eyes. She had hoped she'd never bump into him again after they broke up. She did not enjoy talking to exes, even less when they'd broken up with her, as shallow as that sounded.

“I thought that was you,” he spoke, then turned his attention to Kaydence. “Hey, Kaydence.”

“David,” her best friend responded, and Journee knew that it wasn't just because the two of them had broken up that Kaydence wasn't a fan of him. She hadn't been when they started dating, and though she tried not to show it and be supportive of the relationship, Journee knew her friend well enough to have been able to tell.

“I haven't seen or spoken to you in a while. How have you been?” he questioned, full attention back on Journee.

That was on purpose, she thought to herself, but answered, “Fine.”

He paused for a moment; and glanced over her shoulder at Kaydence, who she knew was probably not looking at him but was, indeed, paying attention to their conversation.

“Look, can we go somewhere and talk in private? I…I miss you, and I think it's worth giving us another try.”

Journee heard Kaydence snort, and she couldn't blame her. She knew he could not have been serious. Especially since he had demanded that she change, and when she tried to compromise, as you did in relationships, he told her that it wasn't good enough. He was looking for something opposite to who she was, which hadn’t made sense because she'd fallen into habits unlike herself because she'd cared about him.

“We can go back to my place if you want. Have a few more drinks…eat some ice cream.”

The audacity of this man. “You want me to go back to your place to fuck?” she questioned, deciding not to sugarcoat it. She and Kaydence only used that phrase in the presence of their parents when they wanted to tell the other that they planned on getting some, but she knew it wasn’t hard for others to pick up on. “You didn't have to spew that entire lie about missing me. If you wanted to get your dick wet, just say that.”

It was a challenge because she knew he couldn't be standing in front of her asking to fuck after not speaking to each other for months. Especially on the terms that their relationship ended.

“Okay. I want to get my dick wet.”

This motherfucker, Journee thought to herself. She was about to go to jail. She took a step toward him, and had every intention of giving him a piece of her mind and her fist when an arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her back into a firm, muscular body.

  “Who is this, baby?”

Journee didn't have to look over her shoulder to know that the voice belonged to Killian. She had been introduced to him when they'd first joined the men, and it had caressed her then in the same way it was doing now. She hesitated for only a second.

  “Um, this is David.”

It was quiet for a split second, and from the way David shifted uncomfortably, she knew he was probably getting a once-over. She’d be uncomfortable, too, if she were in his position. He was a slim man, standing only two inches taller than Journee at five foot ten, and Killian’s presence dwarfed her, so she was sure it made David feel small. Killian was at least six inches taller than him, with a solid frame.

“So, this is David. You were right,” he started, playing his part, and Journee felt him shift slightly. “There is no competition.” She felt him turn back to his original position. “I can't see why I was almost worried about you.”

Shit, Journee thought to herself. That had probably cut David to the white meat. Killian turned her, tipping her chin up.

“Do you still want ice cream when we leave here?”

Journee found it hard to breathe for a second, and the look in his eyes had liquid starting to pool between her thighs.

  “I…yes.”

Killian began to run his thumb over her lower lip as that look in his eyes darkened, causing her pussy to clench. She was getting the distinct feeling that this was going beyond him helping her get rid of David.

  “Yes, what?” he questioned.

Journee tried to communicate to her mouth that responding with what he wanted was dangerous. She didn't know why that was exactly, but every part of her knew it to be true. Unfortunately, her mouth was not listening because her brain had gone foggy.

“Yes, Daddy.” She found herself saying, and it felt like she'd just signed some invisible contract with the devil.

“Will you two get the drinks?” Killian asked, turning his attention to Kaydence and Axel, and Journee felt as if she could breathe again now that those intense, gray eyes didn't have her trapped. “I need Baby for something.”

She vaguely heard Kaydence answer, but Journee was too busy figuring out what sort of spell this man had momentarily cast over her. She felt her feet moving and noticed they were heading back toward the others.

  “Are you okay?” he asked.

“Yeah,” Journee pushed out before demanding she get a hold of herself. “Thank you for stepping in and deterring him.”

“You're welcome,” Killian told her. “Though I was serious. I can give you all the ice cream you can handle.”

Journee's breath hitched, and she looked up at him as they came to a stop, finding that he was already staring down at her. Those eyes held the exact look they had before.

“That doesn't have to be the only time you call me daddy tonight.”

Journee didn't know what to say, which was why she was happy someone called his name, gaining his attention.

“Just say the word,” he told her before heading off in the direction he'd been called to, and Journee made a mental note to stay away from that man. She didn't like the loss of control he'd made her feel in under five minutes. He was the worst kind of demon.

  «─•─•─•─•─•─•─»

She was ignoring him. That much Killian could tell. When they’d all finished at the bar, they’d decided to visit another one that stayed open until the early morning hours and served food, where they were now seated, several conversations being held at once. However, Journee was going out of her way to ignore him. She’d purposely sat away from him as far as she could and made sure she constantly conversed with someone else when she suspected he would say something to her.

Killian couldn’t help but smirk to himself. It wasn’t as if he didn’t know why she was doing it. Hell, if he was her, he may have as well if some man she’d just met said the things to him that he’d said to her less than two and a half hours ago. He had been completely serious with her, though.

Honestly, Killian knew that her physical appearance was attracting him to her. He wasn’t naïve enough to think he was drawn to her by some unknown force. He was a realist, and that wasn’t his style. That didn’t mean he was against getting to know her. It just so happened that when he was attracted to someone, he tended to like to claim them. He didn’t believe in this dating more than one person at a time bullshit that many people did, even if you were only in it for the physical aspect.

Killian had never been one to try to split his time between women when he was casually dating. He wanted his focus to be on one, and if it didn’t work out with them, he’d move on to the next one. So, he expected the same thing in return. He was done if someone couldn’t give him that or claimed they could, and he found out they weren’t.

To him, dating wasn’t a competition, and having someone attempt to date you and another person, regardless of non-exclusivity, made it one. He competed enough in his line of work, though most people wouldn’t look at it that way. He didn’t want to have to do it when he was dating.
