“Chase me, Ivy, tease me. The hell hound in me wants you. He wants to howl to the moon that we caught you.”

“But I’m the one chasing you.”

“You think.” He went up and caught her mouth in a scorching kiss, his tongue invaded her taking over every movement and thought. She followed him battling for supremacy knowing she was going to lose. Nothing better could happen. His taste moved through her like a drug it seeped into her blood and branded the pores of her body demanding that she always carry his scent.

“Damn,” she broke off the kiss panting desperately for air. “I think you can hold your breath longer than I can.”

The glimpse of his white teeth told her she was right.

“Crazy hell hound.” She pulled him over her and got back to kissing him. When he broke off and bit her neck, she gave a howl that was half pleasure with a tang of pain seeping in there.

“What are you a cousin to the vampires?”

“Yeah, sort of. I want to taste your blood, but I know you're not ready for that.”

Taste her blood? She thought of Hal and then of the darks that chased her. Vampiric spiders crawled across her mind trying to make her scared of everything fangy. Then she looked into Cay’s blue eyes and every fear she had disappeared. She lived with the male she knew him. Hurting her wasn’t on his agenda.

  “I’ll think about it.”

He leaned over and kissed her gently. “I can’t ask for more.”

He wasn’t trying to take more than she could give and there was a lot she wanted to give. Her leg went over his as she adjusted to the feel of his weight on her body.

“Are those really flashing lights, or is your kissing taking me to a different sphere?”

He jumped up. “Someone is trying to breach our wards.”

She jumped up with him when he called his portal, she was right there with him.

  “Nice shorts Ivy,” Ly’zel snarked.

“What’s going on?” Ca’yal moved to the security screen his eyes turned a darker blue as he watched several people try to break the wards.

A face looked up staring directly into the camera.

“That’s the woman who gave me the keys to my apartment. I swear something is weird about her.”

Me’akal grabbed an iPad and pulled her up. “Samantha Smith, she identifies as white. Thinks she is a descendant from one of the last great witches several centuries ago. She started a new coven with the hopes of taking over Misty Hollow and being revered as the new grand witch.”

“Grand witch?” Ivy asked watching her hands and mouth move.

“The one in charge of every witch across America,” Ca’yal supplied.

“I’m surprised she wasn’t going for the earth.”

  “Give her time,” Ly’zel uttered.

“Let’s go face a witch.” All she wanted was kisses and maybe some hot naked action and that witch with a B in front of it spoiled her time. She was gonna kick her ass.

“You’re not coming,” Ca’yal stopped in the midst of calling a portal.

“Yes, I am. Her and the others like her made it my fight. I will not hide while my big strong male goes to war for me!” She stomped while she pointed to Samantha on the screen.

“The human has spoken, go take care of our witch problem.” Me’akal turned away trying to hide the trembling of his lips.

Ca’yal called a portal and waited for Ivy to walk through before he followed her.

“You,” Samantha snarled when Ivy walked through the portal.

“Me, all you had to do was ring the doorbell to get my attention.”

Samantha lifted her hand drawing a symbol in the air. A ball of lightning came for Ivy. She raised her hands dipping into a world of color, purple, black, and gray spread between her hands. The lightning hit the shield she raised and fizzled out.

“You raised a shield who taught you that?” Samantha demanded like Ivy cheated by knowing a move to protect herself.

Ivy wanted the answer to Samantha’s question. She had never used her colors like that before, in fact, she didn’t think it was possible. A million questions were assailing her, but Samantha was raising her hands again and this time she was chanting something.

Ivy dipped her hands back into the well of colors as Ca’yal took his hell hound shape and went after the members of the coven surrounding Samantha.

“I knew you were going to be trouble the minute I laid eyes on you.”

Ivy listened to Samantha even as the screams of her coven reached her ears. She didn’t dare take her eyes of the witch who wanted to be in charge.

“Where are you going?” Samantha screamed taking a minute to turn her attention away from ivy.

Ivy used the time to get closer to her while pulling the same shield she used earlier.

“Oh, not this time. May your help rest in peace.”

What she meant came a split second too late as Samantha threw the darkness around her hands at Ca’yal.

Ivy screamed as she launched herself between the darkness and Ca’yal. Her hands moved outward sending the shield she was building to him even as that dark energy slammed into her back.

  *~*~*~*

Ivy’s body jerked as she tried to sit up. “What happened?”

“Stay still, humans aren’t all that easy to treat you know,” Ly’zel huffed out. “Losing my brothers mate in the first battle won’t look good on my resume.”

She laid back down if Ly’zel could snark she was going to live. Ca’yal was holding her hand with his head pressed against her stomach. The reason she couldn’t sit up.

“Cay?” She ran her hands through his hair.

“You almost died,” his voice was ragged like she swallowed cut glass.

  “I’m here, I’m alive.”

  “This time.”

She saw his point and raised him one because she would feel the same way.

“I guess it was too good to be true.”

“What are you talking about,” Ca’yal raised his head to look in her eyes.

“You and me. Not every relationship is meant to be. I can’t imagine being okay when you put yourself in danger and I know I’ll never be the little woman waiting at home to see if you come out alive.”

“Some people do it every day.”

“You’re right, they do. Much respect to the men and women who sit at home with the prayer that their loved one will come through the door. You’re not a cop, a firefighter, or even in the armed services. This is something different something we can do together.”

“I know what you’re doing, but you're right. We’re in this together or apart but we’re both in it.” He dropped his head back to her stomach. “If I said apart?”

“My heart would break, but I’d keep fighting until the end.”

“I was afraid you would say that, not that it matters. I’ve given up a lot in this life, now that I have you I won’t give you up.”

“I was hoping you would say that.”

“Now that we’ve all had our sappy moment move away from my patient so I can tell her how she’s still alive.” Ca’yal moved back, but he still held onto one of her hands.

“You have my attention; I was sure I was going to die.”

“I was watching, and I thought the same. There was no time to help. Turns out your shield doesn’t just cover your hands or the front of your body. It’s made inside of you which means it circles your body. When you pushed it out with your hands, you extended it enough to cover Ca’yal, but you were still covered.”

“That’s good to know. Here is the harder question. How did I make a shield?”

“I’m working on theories, but they are just theories. When you met Mother Earth, she changed or accelerated part of your gift when she claimed you as her own.”

“That’s possible, we could ask Adem and his brothers they may have some insight into this,” Ca’yal came closer.

“I like the theory, but I used colors to make a shield.”

“Why not,” Me’akal was leaning against the door watching them talk. “It makes more sense than most of the theories. Humans color coordinate everything. Cut the red wire not the blue one. He’s so angry I can almost see smoke (gray) coming from his ears. You made a shield you simply used the colors you're familiar with to put the shield in terms you understood.”

“You’re right I think and see in colors and that makes sense to me.”

“Theory two,” Ly’zel butted in. “Triggering Ca’yal’s light triggered a deeper level of your abilities. That might also explain why the evil trying to rise wants you. You have newly awakened abilities that no one knows the extent of. You’re like an all you can eat buffet of mystery food put out by the best restaurant in the state.”

“I think your hunger and your theories are merging,” Ca’yal threw him a piece of candy from the drawer behind him.

“Thanks, Bro I needed this. Theory three and my personal favorite. There’s a line of sups that are low level which keeps them off the radar. They have been held back in reserve for the fight that’s about to happen.”

“I’m not sure what it says about you that this is your favorite.” Unfortunately, her stomach was whirling with the feeling of dread. “What if that theory has merit? I’m thinking of my sister right now, but I bet there are others like me who feel his thing is some low-level kind of magic given to them to complicate their lives. Maybe I should have Vi come here?”

“No,” Dante was standing against a wall. “No one asked for my help but I’ll give it. There will be no interfering with another life. If your sister or anyone else decides to make Misty Hollow their home, it must be of their own free will. The fallout from being forced would be devastating.”

  “Okay, but… and he’s gone.”

“That’s Dante for you. You’ll get used to him. He won’t tell you anything he’s not ready to divulge. I swear I think he spends all day sitting in front of a crystal ball eavesdropping on all of humanity.” Ca’yal shook his head.

Dante’s laughter echoed through the room. “You wish.”

Ivy couldn’t stop the smile; she knew she was going to like him.

  Chapter Fourteen

“What now?” Samantha was in their version of jail. When they looked in on her, she was screaming obscenities that would make her mother blush. Interrogating her was on hold until she calmed down a little.

“Dinner and bed,” Ca’yal was holding her as they sat on the couch together looking out one of the wide windows in his place.

“I guess, have you wondered at the timing?”

“Timing?” His shoulders fell, and he pulled her closer. “I did, I wanted to think it was coincidental.”

“It might have been, but I think if both of us are thinking it.”

  “Then it’s not.”

“Yeah, what does that mean for us? Do we hot pause on anything physical and wait or do we scream screw fate and we’re screw?”

“Ahh, I love the way you phrase things, Ivy,” he chuckled lightening the mood. “What did Dante say? We don’t get to influence anyone else, that means no one gets to influence us.”

“If we decide we want to make love,” her voice was sexy and needy. She was tired of evil and anyone who felt they had a right to decide what she did or who she did it with. More importantly, she was tired of keeping her hands off Cay. She wanted him from the first time she saw him in the store. She had given herself a list of reasons to stay away from the too hot to be real guy in the store.

Now? She turned over and kissed him. If he wanted to take it slow, he’d have to put the brakes on.

“I want you, Ivy, it’s only fair that I tell you that. I don’t just want one time; I want the future. I gave up on ever having a mate, that makes you precious. I might have stopped to say let’s think about this thing, but I wanted you long before my light triggered. I want you Ivy, not the woman who triggered my light.”

“Lucky for you we’re the same person.” She turned around in his arms until she was on her knees. Her hand was flat on his chest stopping him from moving. She leaned back down for another kiss before she jumped up. She pulled her shirt over her head and let it dangle on the tips of her fingers until she tossed it at him.

“If you want to see the rest of my clothes on the floor, you know where I’ll be.” She walked off making sure her ass twitched for everything it was worth. There was no need to look to know he was staying just far enough back. Her hands went to the back of her bra undoing it. She held it up and then dropped it before she disappeared into her room.

A deep masculine sound wrapped around her making her pussy do the panties dance. Yep, she was wet. She’d high five herself if it wouldn’t look strange.

She stopped halfway to the bed and got rid of the pesky shorts she was wearing. That left her wearing nothing but a black thong. She put her knee on the bed.

“You promised I’d see all your clothes on the floor,” his voice was thick.

“I did, didn’t I?” She backed up and shook feeling the globes of her ass shake before she placed her hand on the waistband. His breathing increased making her feel like the sexiest diva to walk the streets. This was how the right male made you feel. Her pulse jumped as she leaned down to push her panties off.

She leaned all the way down allowing him to get a good look at her ass as well as a flash of her hungry pussy before she shook it again. Then she climbed on the bed hoping it was as sexy in reality as it was in her mind.

He climbed onto the bed behind her his eyes were flashing red as the light from his chest steadily lit the way. She reached up placing her hand over it.

  “Will this always be here?”

“Until we mate or one of us dies.”

She sucked in a breath; it was like being sucker punched to think of him no longer being here.

“Steady tiger, we already talked about this. I’d like to think it’s you and me until the end.” He swooped down to plunder her mouth.

If they gave out kissing awards her male, heat blasted through her at the thought of her male, would get the award every time, but only if she were the judge.

He ran his hand down the side of her neck causing a slight laugh when he touched a ticklish spot.

“I’ll be coming back to that spot later.” He blew on it before licking it and running his hands down her arms. You’re so sensitive, she shivered wherever he touched her.

His hands felt like live wires on her touching every nerve ending she didn’t know she had.

“Ca’yal,” her voice was a whine as she pulled him over her. His upper body laid on hers. The feel of his chest rubbing against her nipples was enough to make them hard and needy. He pushed up, the muscles in his arms bulging as he held himself over her.

“Yes please,” she let out with a moan before he lowered his head and took one nipple in his mouth. He sucked hard making her body jump from the feel of pleasure flooding her. She felt it all the way down to the wicked spasm that went through her pussy. This she screamed in her head; I’ve been looking for this.

He lowered his body next to hers before taking her other nipple between his fingers and giving it a pinch. The pleasure overrode a minute of pain and she found herself trying to get her hands on her clit. When he smacked the back of one hand, they went to his body.

If she couldn’t get herself off then, she was going to touch him and tease him until he was as desperate as her.

“Tiger,” he growled as one nipple popped out of his mouth and he took the other one in. His hands roamed her breasts, caressing and pinching, then soothing while his mouth sent erotic shots of pleasure through her.

Moans and sighs of pleasure came from her that made her needier with each sound she uttered. Her hands found their way down his back playing with the base of his spine before running over the top of his ass. He was firm everywhere she loved it.

His mouth began a trail down her body leaving her breasts that were standing up at attention while her nipples begged for a little more of his mouth and hands.

  “You’re beautiful.”

She hadn’t felt beautiful since her ex told her in brutal honesty what he didn’t like about her body. Sure, she told him to go screw himself, but hatred like that had tentacles that bombarded her shields until it wormed its way in. She was always left wondering if maybe he was right.

“I love your pale skin.” Ca’yal’s voice brought her out of her thoughts. His touch lit her up again.

She couldn’t tan for anything, both her sister and her dad made fun of her.

“You do?” she craved to hear what he had to say. Not because she was that needy or needed that much affirmation. It was because it was Ca’yal the male who wanted to spend eternity with her.

“I do. You’re a beautiful canvas waiting for me to draw a sensuous picture on.” He took his fingers and drew them over her ribs before did down to her abdomen. “I love how soft and thick you are. I want to settle on you and spend my whole life loving you. When life is over all I’ll want to do is go back to the beginning and love you some more.”

She blinked her eyes fast not wanting him to see the tears that were trying to accumulate in the corners of her eyes. More than once had she called B.S. on a guy, but she believed him. The words resonated in her heart.

“Make love to me Ca’yal. I want to know what it feels like to be yours.”

He touched her everywhere, caressing her, licking her, while making sure to nip her to claim her as his and leave beautiful love marks on the canvas that was her body. He slid lower his hands trailing over the top of her mound. She pressed against his hand wanting to feel him deep inside of her.

“Beautiful,” his hands caressed the neat black curls. His eyes looked like he had just been given the keys to the city.

He took a finger and stroked it along her pussy lips. Ivy bit her tongue to keep from screaming as her body arched up demanding more. His fingers found her clit caressing it before they applied a little pleasure. His mouth came close before sucking her tiny nub inside.

She stopped biting her lip in favor of encouraging him. Her body was primed, she just needed a little pressure and then… he backed off.
