A Treat for the Pirate
He says he’s a pirate but there’s no way a man feels like he does.
Work sucks.
My boss left me in charge of the entire company fall festival and everything is going wrong. It gets worse when there are rumors about a set of pirates at a ship in the middle of the forest! This was not in the contract!
Except it’s weirder than potential creeps in the forest. One pirate stands out with his constant presence and bad pirate speak. silver with sharp teeth and green eyes. He’s nice, sexy and he keeps trying to help me. His skin doesn’t feel like body paint. He thinks this whole event is a holy event!. While I educate him on the basic fall festival, He’s helping me keep this fall festival afloat. The more he follows me around, the more I am sure he is not human at all. I can’t turn away from the feelings developing inside.
Can I survive this fall festival with my heart intact?

“Look at this! It’s magnificent, right?” I asked as I waved my hands towards my ship as I talked to my best friend, Bxylr.
Bxylr’s gray skin darkened. “What is this?”
“It’s a pirate ship.” I put my hands on my hips with pride. I had spent years building this with wood. A space and water faring ship like the ships from Earth.
Bxylr turned to me in a state of shock. His bright green eyes locked on mine. “This isn’t a Xyrl-type craft. What is this?”
It was ingenious, really. Take a small space fairing ship and make it look like a human pirate ship. It had taken a few years to build it, but it was a close replica of the ships I had seen from the Earth documents. It would be easy to blend in to study Earth culture. This was my ticket to the perfect paper to re-gain admittance to the Institute.
“Why a ship? I don’t think that’s accurate. What Earth records are you looking at?”
Tapping my comm, I sent him the records I studied from, hoping he would find them useful. His view screen appeared in front of him and his eyes zoomed across the records. He shook his head. “I don’t think these are current records or accurate.”
“I told you years ago, this was my dream: to study primitive cultures. This is going to make my report amazing.”
“But Taxlyz, this can’t be right. The Lady Heather never mentioned sailing across the seas.”
“Let me tell you the best part. I’ve plotted out my course and I’ll be arriving on the high holiday of Halloween. This will be amazing! I have my historical outfit ready. I will be the best pirate in the area.”
Bxylr waved his hands. “This isn’t accurate. Have you ever paid attention to any of the interviews she gave? There are no pirates and roving boats!”
I tapped my comm. “But the records.”
“This has to be a children’s tale…I think. There’s no way humans don’t have land or air vehicles. Most primitive societies move from water transportation unless it is a water planet.”
“It doesn’t matter. I’m leaving tomorrow. To fully experience their culture, I need to be there during their high holiday. I have my historical garments. It will be great!” I exclaimed.
“Look, we all know that our planet has been behind the times due to the rule of Ambassador Cryx, but there is no way they are this backwards.”
Waving my hand, I did a last check on my ship. It looked like a perfect replica of a human pirate ship. It was perfect, and I was ready to leave. This would be an adventure of a lifetime. I couldn’t wait to reach my dreams of being a genuine scholar. My paper on humans would change my trajectory. I smiled as I looked at my ship. This was my pride.
At the doors, I turned back to Bxylr. “Would you like to come?” I asked.
Bxylr looked concerned and frowned. “Yes. I will come just to make sure you’re okay.”
“What do you mean?”
“I told you. You’re wrong.” He waved at the comm screen. “This is all wrong. And you know it’s illegal to be on Earth, right?”
“That’s why we are going to wear a historical garment!” I ran up the plank to the captain’s room. I pulled out an extra garment and handed it to Bxylr. “There’s an extra one just for you. I’ll send you all the information you’ll need to be on the ship.”
“Do you think the humans will know if this is an alien spaceship?”
“They shouldn’t. It will be perfect.”
“You keep saying that, but I don’t think you know what that means. What about our skin? It takes a few weeks to get a good shifter. We don’t have that time.”
“The high holiday of Halloween, the humans dress up in all colors and shapes and costumes. It makes it even easier. They will just think we are silver pirates.”
“Why would primitive people do this?”
“It is supposed to keep away the evil spirits that haunt the land once a year. The veil is thin on this day.”
“I don’t think it works like that. None of this makes sense.”
I shook my head. “This is a perfect plan. Make sure you download English into your translator!”
Bxylr nodded and winced. “Yeah, I’ll do that. I’ll get here in a few hours for our departure.”
“Excellent.”

Kayla
My shoulders slumped as I sighed. Here I sat in the middle of this pumpkin patch waiting for another person to ask for a picture with the prop setup. This was supposed to be the big corporate fall festival. My boss had rented out the entire farm and they set it up with the best fall activities the farm could provide. A family walked by with a small girl holding her mother’s hands. The father turned to his partner and pressed his lips against her forehead. A faint smile ghosted her lips as her child tugged on her hand. I practically could feel the love radiating from the family. Another sigh wracked my body. I wanted something like that. Love. Family. There was no one on Earth that caught my eye like that.
A small child ran past me, hitting me in the leg as they did.
“Mommy! I want to see the pirate ship! There’s an alien pirate on there! It’s so much cooler than the movies,” he screamed.
My brows furrowed. I helped set up this entire festival. There shouldn’t be a pirate ship. I flagged down Celeste, one of the other assistants working the fair.
“Hey! Can you watch this photo booth right now?”
She made a face and her shoulders slumped. “Why?”
“Did you see the pirate ship? I heard a kid mention it.”
“Yeah, it’s cool! But the two actors are weird. Accent’s weird. I think they are from like the Netherlands.”
“But there shouldn’t be a pirate ship.”
“Maybe it’s new?”
“Can you please watch this one?”
She groaned and plopped onto the hay bale. “Fine.”
Grabbing my bag, I ran to the kid. Maybe I should have asked Celeste instead. “Where’s the pirate ship?”
The kid turned and pointed towards the woods. There were a few walking paths inside the woods. Everyone was welcome to use them, I remembered from the pamphlets. From the top of the tree line, I could see a flag blowing in the wind. My mouth fell open. That looked like a cheesy pirate flag. Did my boss know? He
Groaning, I looked up, and there was a shadow of a man peering down at me. He was wearing a billowing white shirt, tight black pants, and a cliche pirate hat. He looked like he had stepped off a movie set. But this was Halloween. Everyone was in costumes. His skin wasn’t normal, though. It was silver and glinted slightly in the sunlight. The man smiled at me as his weird eyes devoured me. His eyes were green in the sclera with vertical black pupils. He smiled, and it looked like vampire fangs were in his mouth. The fangs were red, but the others were pearly white. What a weird mash up of a costume.
“Ahoy! What are you honoring in your costume, matey? I see you didn’t color your skin like some others. I saw a blue fella a small rotation ago!”
Was this guy supposed to be a pirate? Was this some cosplay about some pirate I didn’t watch? I winced as I tried to sit up. Today was a chilly day. So I opted for my favorite leggings underneath a short red skirt and a tight red tank with a red cape over it. My cape was choking me as I had fallen on the flowing bits of it. I was supposed to be Little Red Riding Hood, but a few kids laughed at me when I told them today. “It’s from a fairy tale.”
I wiggled to get the cape from under my bottom. His mouth fell open as he watched my boobs bounce as I did that. A rush of heat coursed through my body. Without the cape, this outfit was quite profane, especially with him looming above me.
“What fairy tale? I must research it if there is a deity as pretty as you.”
“Little Red Riding Hood.”
I stopped my jiggling. My eyes widened as I rolled over to stand up. Just as I was about to stand up, I felt a pair of powerful arms wrap around me and lift me off the ground. “Let go of me!”
“I am trying to help!” he proclaimed.
“You don’t touch women like this!” I elbowed him in the ribcage, but his skin wasn’t soft. It was pure muscle. His hands let go of me and I stumbled forward.
“So you do not help others here? I was only helping you.”
I turned around and stepped into his space. “You don’t touch women like that. Or I guess anyone. Too many bad people and I could have trauma. You could have made me spiral out. You may ask if you can help, but you don’t touch without permission!”
He smirked and nodded. He pulled out a small tablet from the pouch attached to his side. His fingers slid over the screen quickly. The tablet looked strange. Strange tablet for a strange man. “Never touch a female without permission. Got it.”
“Are you taking notes?” Oh no. What if this person doesn’t know social cues? Guilt wretched through me for yelling at them.
“Yes. Every good scholar takes notes. Have you seen my friend?”
“Does he look like you?”
He smiled. Those fangs were really weird. “Yes.”
“So what are you?” I asked. I waved down my body and his eyes eagerly drank me up. My belly did another flip, and I bit my bottom lip. “I told you what I am.”
“I’m a pirate. I thought that was a normal thing to dress up as.”
“Why do you have silver skin, fangs and weird contacts? That’s not pirates.”
His eyes narrowed. “It is Halloween, after all. I just searched your fairy tale. Where is your wolf?” He grinned as he looked around.
“What?”
“The wolf in the story? The one that has teeth that are better to eat you with?”
My eyes widened, and my mouth fell open. Who was this man? Was he flirting with me?

This human was beautiful. My people didn’t have biological mates. That was fine. It meant we could pave our own way and, currently, the way I wanted was this luscious ‘Red Riding Hood.’ Her thick legs were ensconced in tight leggings with a red skirt covering her wide hips. Would exploring this human be good for science? How could my bifurcated tongue explore every curve of her body? Her tank top showed off her delicious cleavage. Her long red hair flowed around her shoulders. She pushed them off as she tightened the red cape around herself, preventing me from seeing more of her body.
“I don’t have a partner to do a partner costume. Plus, I’m working. I would never bring a boyfriend here.”
My head tilted. “You are working?”
“Yes. That’s why I came here. Are you working with the farm? Is this an extra attraction?”
Hmm. I would have to lie to her. “Yes,” I said.
Her eyes narrowed. “What is your role?”
Remembering the kids that loved the ship, I pointed behind me. “Ahoy! My pirate ship. Have you seen it yet?”
“No.”
“Argh! May I hold your hand? I want to show you. It’s amazing. Perfect in every way. Ahoy! My ship awaits.”
Her plump lips parted. “Okay. Yes. Thank you for asking.”
With a wide smile, I eagerly clasped her hand. This made her cape open up again. Maybe I should hold her hand more. I would like to see more of her curves. Her skin was warm and slightly sweaty. I wonder how much I could ask her for my research? The path to my ship was narrow and overgrown, but I managed to pull her through it. Bxylr stood by the ship. Her hand relaxed and fell out of mine as she gasped behind me.
“It looks so real,” she whispered.
“Argh! My shipmate is here! Who’s that scallywag with you?”
She tittered behind me. “It’s just me, Kayla. Surely your boss told you about me? I was the contact with the farm.”
Bxylr looked at me in a flush of panic. “Uh,” he said. “Taxlyz?”
I turned to Kayla. “We forgot the name of everything. We’ve been focusing so much on this event. It’s our first. It had to be just right.”
She worried at her lip with her teeth. Her teeth didn’t have blood teeth like mine. What did they consume with those blunt teeth?
“I don’t think you got the costumes right.”
“Argh, what do you mean, lassie?” Bxylr asked. His irises widened.
“You’re weird vampire teeth and silver skin. Pirates wouldn’t look like that. Unless it’s like an anime.”
Bxylr glared at me as I frowned. “It is the high holiday of Halloween. You dress up like others?” I replied.
Her head tilted as she looked at me. “I mean, I guess some people do mishmash costumes and all.” She crossed her arms, which pressed her breasts together. It was a lovely sight to see. “It’s just weird.”
“Well, lass, it is what it is.”
Her eyebrows furrowed as I turned back to Bxylr. “Are you staying here? I need to go to work.”
Bxylr nodded. “Aye. Get along.”
“May I walk you out of the forest? Make sure no wolves catch you?” I asked. I wanted to be the wolf to eat her. My teeth ached to be inside her skin and my anchors deep inside her.
Her eyes widened and her lips quirked up. “No wolves in these woods.”
“Please?”
She sighed. “Fine.”
“May I hold your hand?”
She smiled again. “Okay.”
“Bxylr! I am going to get some grog!”
“No drinking!”
“Fine! I will dance the hempen jig!”
Bxylr stilled. “What?” He tapped on his wrist as he was trying to translate. I chuckled as I watched him. He didn’t study up as well as he should have.
A child screeched, and Bxylr stopped searching for a translation. Kayla reached out, and I grabbed her hand. Bxylr was talking to a small child as he brandished his cutlass and showed him some moves. They weren’t authentic because I recognized the old txytxx maneuver. They might find us out because of his errors.

Kayla
Why was I letting this weird man walk me out of the woods? Don’t get me wrong. He was handsome as all get out. Muscles peeped out from under his white shirt. Did he have a six-pack or more? Like those stacked body builders? As weird as he looked in all the special effect makeup, somehow it suited him. When we stepped out of the woods, the silver in his skin was even brighter. It shimmered and glittered in the sun like those vampires in those books. Was this some sort of meta joke? As I let go of his hand, I let my knuckles drag against his forearm. He stumbled and looked at me in shock.
