One of them, Chris’ junk, floated on the tranquil bay. The other three had landed near our settlement.
We could see people gathering there, hurrying.
“Three?” Franz exclaimed. “What’s that third vessel doing here?”
I set Owl down gently. I flipped her into normal space. “My God, Franz, don’t you recognize her? That’s Cupid’s Arrow!”
We threw the lock open, shot the gangplank out. Together, Laure and Janet came running up as I rushed out. I took them both into my arms. Bess was close behind them. So was Saul, his squirrel-tail as ravaged as before, Vee Vee and the Gnat clinging to his hands.
“Thank God! Thank God!” sobbed Janet.
’Thank God indeed!” I echoed, kissing her again and again. I looked at Saul, reached out to slap him on the back. “Now it’s complete. We have our world, our loves, our friends!” “Yes,” he said. “And we shall have our own kachinas.”
