“That better be duck blood. Dr. Pang would tell you that you need some cooling influence after all your recent excitement,” she warned.
“It is, darling,” Nicolette said as she plopped down another TV tray and her microwaved meal. “Want me to heat you something up too? We’re about to watch a marathon of nineties soap operas.”
“No, I think I’m still a little worn-out. Mind if I head upstairs?” she asked.
“We’ll be fine!” both of the drama junkies said as they snuggled into the sofa.
She gave them a little wave before checking the fridge. Sure enough, there were neat little rows of bottles and baggies full of various Eastern remedies, each marked with the appropriate amounts and day of the week. She noticed the bottle warmer with a rack of pink-tinged bottles next to it, and the row of bar blenders just waiting for something nasty from the freezer.
She smiled at her new normal and took comfort in the sole surviving kitten winding his way around her legs as she wandered up to her room. Once there she slipped on her new necklace and smiled at her reflection with the keys resting squarely over her heart. “Come on,” she whispered pleadingly to her phone.
She ended up curling in bed, petting the kitty for a while until she started dozing off. Just as she entered the first hazy edges of dreamland, a buzzing from her nightstand snapped her back. Her heart skipped a beat as she read three little words painted across her notification screen.
“Mada ikite iru.”
Rules Undying will return in SIX. Even if you have to wait for Georgia for a while…
