Jaxon’s hand snaked through the bars and wrapped around the back of Major Crass’s head. He pressed the man’s face between two bars and bent to his ear.
“No,” Jaxon whispered. “I’m here because I’m a sore loser.”
He continued pressing Major Crass’s face between the bars, and he continued to increase the pressure. Eventually the skin on the forehead began to split, and Major Crass let out a scream. He tried to fight. He tried to push his legs against the bars and free himself from Jaxon’s grip but Jaxon was too strong.
He begged for mercy. He swore up and down that he’d leave Jaxon alone. He apologized over and over but the General wasn’t listening. One final, vicious yank and I heard the crunch of bone follow the sight of an eye popping from its socket before I turned away.
The next thing I knew, the screams had stopped, and Jaxon was walking by me towards the elevator. Merrick followed him immediately. I hesitated briefly, and then joined them.
It was an hour after we left the prison and were high in the air, rapidly returning to El Paso, when Jaxon finally turned and spoke to me.
“You wanna go eat?”
I laughed out loud, I’m serious. I was really having a fit, and after a fashion, Jaxon laughed right along with me.
