"I'm at your disposal, Your Highness," Julian said, sitting again on the chair, still trying to piece together the situation but failing in the process.

"I'll speak freely and be direct." She didn't wait for him to answer. Julian thought that was probably common in royalty, so he shut his mouth and listened. "We've been in and out of war with the Orc King of the Twelve Isles for a century now. Are you aware of it?"

"Yes, Your Highness. I studied our kingdom’s history."

"Good, we can skip that, then. The thing is, our sources informed us that the enemy has acquired a new ally."

  "Baron Strazz."

"Yes, my sources informed me it's Strazz. He's deformed and speaking as if he was someone else. Someone called Fenrir, a god from old tales. He's promising an army to our enemy and has proven more than once that he can perform a powerful new kind of magic."

Julian listened to everything carefully. He wasn't sure what he could confide in these people and their real intentions. Still, they had shared information he was desperately seeking. For that, he could be grateful.

"The thing is, Julian, that Lord Strazz was never a welcome guest at the capital. He knew some of my father's secrets, which earned him power, but that was decaying over time. Now with father and mother dead, he has no power inside the Capital. I consider it foolish to seek help from those savages at the Twelve Isles, but it's an understandable move. Can I assume this change in him is somehow related to you?"

"I fought the baron after he acquired these new powers. He's strong and has an army, that I can assure you."

"And you are here to tell the tale."

  "Yes, I survived."

  "Can you do it again?"

"I can kill him, yes." Julian's fists clenched with anticipation.

  "You understood the rest, right?"

"Considering your letter, I assume my father is also on one of those isles. Hence, I'll have to enter the place, rescue him, and kill the baron in the process," Julian said firmly, accepting the conditions without needing a formal request.

"All right then, I’ll wait for your arrival at the capital in three weeks. Go back home and fix what needs to be fixed. You'll have a lot to do at the castle."

  "What castle, Your Highness?"

"The one in Silverhold, of course. You're now Baron Julian Lionheart. How does that sound?"

"It sounds great, Your Honor. But I don't want to live in the castle. I prefer to use it to help the people in need in the town."

"And from where are you going to rule, then? From that broken manor of yours?"

"Yes, but as we speak, it stopped being a manor. When all this is over, it will be a castle twice the size of the one in Silverhold," Julian said as a smile blossomed on his face.

"Alright, Baron Julian Lionherart. Good morning to you and your wives. You form a beautiful family," she said with a cold smile as she turned her back and left the room. Suddenly, she didn't look as gangly in that armor. Instead, she was elegant and regal, as if she could walk on water.

"Good luck, boy," the duke said gently. "I knew you were a good one. I knew it." The old man left the room, and Julian's tension left his shoulders as if a wave had washed it away.

Now, he knew where to go, but before that, he would celebrate with the two women smiling broadly at him.

Hey, I'm Alex Prone, a fantasy enthusiast and aspiring storyteller. When I'm not chasing after my little one or tackling chores around the house, you'll often find me immersed in the pages of fantasy novels.
