As always, my wife, Debbie has stood by my side through the difficult weeks, getting to grips with formatting and printing, editing and reviewing and I shall never be able to thank her enough.

A huge thank you to Helen Gray who has worked hard to cast a professional eye over the text.

I feel now is the time to mention people who are the vital cogs in the success of many of my books. The book bloggers who give of their time to read and review the books. I will never be able to thank you enough.

Caroline Vincent, Bits about Books, has supported my work from conception and has been my guardian angel throughout. During the highs and the lows, she has always been there to encourage, cajole and be a critical friend. My sincere thanks, Caroline.

There are many unsung heroes who support the writing of a book, the ARC readers who give accurate feedback about the story and any inconsistencies. Stef O’Leary, Kath Middleton and Carrie Heap. Thank you.

Georgie and staff at Cordings, Harrogate who immediately offered to launch the book at the shop. I am honoured. Thank you.

Georgia from Imagined Things Bookshop, Harrogate has supported the series from the off. I was so proud to be labelled the shop’s number one bestseller in 2018.

One of the most difficult tasks for me as a writer is to find character names. I welcome volunteers who would like to be featured within the pages of my books. On this occasion a thank you to Wendy Momen and Bill Clark for allowing me to add their names. To Emma and Martin Truelove also… surprise! I hope you like your characters.

I would like to say a special thanks to Bloodhound Books who originally saw something in my style of writing. We worked together for seven books and I shall always be grateful for their support for my work. I wish them well in the coming years.

As always, my thoughts are with Emily Shutt – a princess, a warrior and a little angel.

Andrew Forsyth – my sincere thanks for your fabulous support.

Stephen Barr – thank you for your support investigating the games world.

Escape room staff in Manchester, Harrogate and Warrington. My thanks for your help.

Dan O’Brien – I appreciate your technical support.

  Ian Cleverdon – thank you.

Fellow authors – Robin Roughley and David Evans – thank you.

The most important part of this section of the book is to say a massive thank you to you, the reader. Goodness, you have probably followed DCI Cyril Bennett and DS David Owen through thick and thin. I hope, like me, that you have come to know them and look forward to seeing what life has to offer between the pages of the next book.

If I have forgotten to mention anyone then please accept my sincere apologies.

  Until book nine.
