“— Chicken nuggets, I suppose I can make those.”

  “Sprinkles?” Sophie asked. “On pancakes?”

Walt shrugged. “I can do chicken. It’s—”

  “No, no. Sprinkles, Uncle Walt.”

Cody buried his face in a throw pillow and laughed.

“We’ll make pancakes with sprinkles, then. Only Cody doesn’t get any.”

“But Uncle Walt, Cody is my friend.”

Walt sighed, and Cody peeked over the pillow at him.

  “Fine.”

Sophie threw her arms around Walt’s neck and hugged him. He made a very suspicious sniff and made sure he wasn’t looking Cody’s way. Like Cody hadn’t already figured out that he was a giant softy.

“You have to stir,” Walt said grumpily. He picked Sophie up and sat her on the counter. “I don’t want to hear any arguments.”

  “I can stir.”

“I know you can. Now tell Cody to get his ass…uh…dorable self over here and put away the rest of the groceries while we work.”

  “Uncle Walt, what’s ass-dorable mean?”

Cody couldn’t remember the last time he’d laughed so hard. Walt glared at him again as he got out the ingredients for pancakes so Cody forced himself to calm down and got up to help with the groceries. He pecked a kiss on Sophie’s cheek, earning a sweet giggle from her, before he unloaded the bags and began finding logical spaces to put things. He’d worked with Walt long enough to know how he organized the kitchen at the bar, so he tried to find a similar way of sorting. When he wasn’t sure, he asked. Walt always glared at him like he was an idiot, but then he told him where to put stuff. Walt seemed to be the most anxious of the super commandos about what was going on, so Cody figured keeping his kitchen space organized would help him with his worries.

He finished putting everything away when he felt something weird. He got goosebumps on his arms and the hair rose like he had spidey senses that were tingling, but he didn’t and they weren’t. It was weird. Walt let out a sigh of relief and mumbled, “That’s better.”

  “What happened?” Cody asked.

  “What?”

“Look Uncle Walt, I got the goosebumps!” Sophie held up her arm. Cody held his up, too.

“What just happened?” Cody asked again.

“Uh… static electricity. The… uh… air…uh… get to work, both of you!”

Cody rolled his eyes, but Sophie shrugged and stirred the pancake mix. Instead of waiting for an answer, Cody went to the front door and pulled it open once more. He caught a flash of something… it looked like a fire in the woods but it was gone a second later. Cody rubbed his eyes tiredly before looking around for Sol. He found him walking out of the woods where the flash had come from. He’d probably been using a flashlight or something, which explained what Cody had seen. Although it was still mostly dark so why didn’t he still have it on?

Sol walked straight to him and hooked his hand around Cody’s neck. He didn’t understand why they did that all the time but Cody liked it. It was like a freaking hug, which made no sense at all. “Walt’s making pancakes.”

  “Good. You need to eat.”

Cody arched a brow. “Pancakes don’t have iron.”

“I don’t feed on iron. I feed on sugar. Get your blood sugar up and I’m a happy vamp.”

  Cody cackled. “Jerk.”

“I like seeing you smile,” Sol said quietly. “You don’t smile nearly enough.”

Cody’s breath caught and he looked up into Sol’s golden brown eyes. “It’s hard to find a reason to, most days.”

Sol grunted. “We should fix that.”

  “You volunteering?” Cody asked.

Sol looked down at him and the intensity in Sol’s gaze sent another round of goosebumps through Cody. He shivered and his heart began to race. “And what if I am?”

Cody swallowed. He arched his neck to the side. “My blood sugar is yours.”

Sol leaned down and slowly pressed his lips to Cody’s neck. “Go eat,” he whispered against the skin. “Then get some rest. Take my room, okay?”

  “What about you?”

  “I’ll be in soon.”

Cody couldn’t help but frown and he didn’t fully understand why. He wanted Sol inside where he could see him. God, he must be more tired than he realized. “Okay.”

It wasn’t okay. But he stepped back and tried to turn. Sol’s arms around him stopped him. “What?”

  “Nothing.”

Sol growled. The vibrations went down Cody’s spine. “I don’t lie to you. You don’t lie to me.”

Cody froze, his entire body tensed for a moment as the words went through him. “I’m sorry.”

Sol huffed and tucked his face into Cody’s neck. He nipped at the same spot Cody had teasingly offered him a minute before. “Tell me.”

His breath heated the skin of Cody’s neck, sending a different kind of shiver through him. “It’s stupid.”

  “Cody.”

“I want you to stay where I can see you, okay? I know it’s stupid and you have other things to—”

  “Okay.”

Cody shivered again. “It’s not okay. It’s ridic—”

  “Walt, enough pancakes for me?”

  “Ask Sophie.”

The little girl beamed from her position on the counter. She had a little shaker bottle with multicolored sprinkles in her hand. “We can share, Uncle Sol. Do you want sprinkles?”

  “Extra sprinkles for me.”

Sol gave Cody a gentle nudge and guided him over to the counter. The cooktop was in the central island and the once impeccable butcher block counter was covered with flecks of pancake batter and sprinkles. Cody was pretty sure there were sprinkles all over the floor, too, but Walt— who kept the kitchen at the bar so clean you could eat off the floor— was nodding at Sophie as she shook the bottle with all her might like she was an expert sprinkler who could do no wrong.

“I think I’m in an alternate universe. Can vamp… uh, you know whats… induce hallucinations?”

  Sol snorted out a laugh.

Walt glared at him. “Don’t say shit…ake mushrooms like that.”

Luckily, Sophie was too busy adding an extremely colorful amount of sprinkles onto the pancakes in the pan. Walt had his arm between her and the stove to keep her from leaning too close.

“That was clever,” Sol said. “Nice save.”

Walt grunted. “Time to flip ‘em, Soph. You done?”

She nodded. The pan was a sprinkle-covered mess of melting goo, but Walt flipped the pancakes and scraped off the mess like a champ.

“Eat ‘em while they’re hot,” Walt said. He moved a couple small ones onto a plate and pushed it to Cody. “Cut ‘em up for her.”

  “Sir, yessir!”

Walt gave him yet another glare.

Cody leaned into Sol— who was still really close behind him and why hadn’t he realized it before?— and then went to get utensils from the drawer. He returned to his previous spot and Sol stepped back into him. He let out a breath and cut Sophie’s pancakes into bite-sized pieces.

Walt took another batch of pancakes off the stove and handed the plate to Sophie.

“Order up!” she called as she beamed at Sol and held out the plate to him.

“These look amazing. Come eat with me?”

She chewed her lip and looked nervously at Walt. “But Uncle Walt needs me to do the sprinkles.”

“We’re all done until the next order comes in, Chef Sophie,” Walt said. “I’m going to clean up and get ready for the next batch.”

  “Okay.”

Walt helped her down and she skipped around the counter to the table. Walt shoved the bottle of syrup toward them before looking down at the mess. Cody took the syrup and carried it to the table where Sol was helping Sophie into a chair. Shelly came in with her hair damp from a shower and dressed in pajamas. She sidled up beside Walt, then glared down at the floor as the sprinkles pressed into her bare feet.

“I’ll clean it up,” Walt grumbled.

  “Good. Make me some?”

“’Course.” He kissed her forehead and she came around the table and sat down beside Sophie.

Cody couldn’t help but sigh. They were as good together as Shaq and Drew were. He stole a glance at Sol and found Sol staring at him with hunger in his eyes. He couldn’t help but shiver in response. He ate the pancakes Walt put in front of him a few minutes later. When he finished, he started to gather the dirty dishes, but Sol put a hand on his arm.

“Come here.” He led Cody toward the master bedroom. “We’ll clean up. Go take a shower and get some rest.”

  “I’m fi—”

“I know you are. Just… do this for me. Please?”

Cody searched Sol’s gaze and tried to find some answer to the thousand and one questions he had floating around in his head. “Okay.”

Sol ran his thumb along Cody’s jaw before cupping his face in his hand. He held him that way for a moment, staring into Cody’s eyes. Then he turned and walked away.

Cody chewed his lip as he grabbed his bag and went into the bedroom. He undressed and started the water in the shower. He stood there for a solid three minutes, staring at the water as it began to steam up the glass. Instead of stepping under the water, Cody grabbed his phone. Enough was enough. He was tired of unknowns and dancing around Sol. The whole super soldier secret was enough. He needed the HellBent one to go away.

Goldilad: I’m getting in the shower. It’s so big. There’s room for two.

Goldilad: Would you fuck me in the shower? Make me come all over these pretty tiles?

Goldilad: I want you to. I want to feel you for days.

  HellBent growled at you.

  He had him.

He set the timer on the camera and angled it on the little soap dish on the wall so Sol would see what he had to offer. His cock was already hard, just thinking about Sol finally giving in and actually touching him the way he’d promised in their chats. He let the water pour over him as he waited for the timer on the camera to click. When it did, he attached the picture.

Goldilad: I’m waiting for you, Sol. Are you going to make me do this without you?

  Solomon

Once Cody went into the bedroom, Solomon went outside to check on the others. When his phone began to buzz, he ignored it until he’d assured himself all was well with his pack. He took the phone out and nearly swallowed his tongue.

Goldilad: I’m waiting for you, Sol. Are you going to make me do this without you?

Cody knew. He’d called him by name. And was naked in Sol’s shower, waiting.

Sol stormed inside, his body heating as his brain processed the image that had accompanied those words. Cody had angled the camera so his entire body was seen, face and all. Walt and Shelly sent him puzzled frowns as he practically ran past them. Sophie had curled up on the couch between them and didn’t pay him a second of attention, thank the goddess. He’d have probably terrified her with the look on his face.

He shut the bedroom door and went into the bathroom. Steam filled the air, but not enough to blur the image of Cody. He’d leaned against the tile and was stroking his cock.

  “Took you long enough.”

Sol swallowed a growl. “You knew.”

“You aren’t that subtle. Shut the bathroom door. You’re letting cold air in.”

  Sol shut the bathroom door.

“You…” Sol had no idea what to say. He’d been planning on telling Cody the truth anyway. It had gone further than he’d imagined, and much faster than he’d ever thought possible. With their connection deepening in real life, Sol hadn’t wanted to keep the ruse going. It had served its purpose and broken the ice, even if Cody hadn’t realized who he was at the time.

  “Take your clothes off, Sol.”

Sol looked up and met Cody’s gaze. There was something there, a tiny bit of hurt and confusion beneath the sultry stare. Sol stripped his shirt off and unbuttoned his jeans. “If we do this, it changes everything. You get that, right? You say yes to me right now, and you’re mine. Only mine. That app goes away. No one else sees you but me. No one touches you but me.”

Cody swallowed. “I can do that.”

Sol kicked his boots off before he shucked his jeans. He straightened and crossed his arms over his chest. His cock filled, aching to touch Cody the way he’d been imagining. But they had a few more things to clear up, even if it meant he had to fight the urge to stop pretending and make Cody his.

“I meant what I said. I’m not looking for a quick fuck.”

  Cody nodded.

“I couldn’t figure out a way to tell you I wanted to bend you over the bar and fuck you senseless. Every time I spoke to you, all you heard was my frustration.”

  “Sol, you don’t have to—”

“Yes, I do. I wanted you the first time I saw you. I was so pissed that you were hurt and scared and I wanted to hunt down that asshole you were dating and punch him right in the face. Do you get that, Cody? From day one, I wanted you.”

  Cody gulped. “You did?”

“I did. And you weren’t ready. So I swallowed it down. And then you decided it was Shaq, not me. So I swallowed it down. I swallowed it down so much I started to choke on it.”

Cody began trembling, and Sol finally moved forward the last few steps. He shut the shower door behind him and closed the distance between them. Cody reached for him and Sol lifted Cody’s chin, forcing Cody to meet his gaze as their bodies pressed together. The hot water poured over him, but he ignored it all. He stared into Cody’s eyes and finally let his emotions free.

“I didn’t want to lie to you, but I didn’t know how to get over it and start fresh. And I needed a fresh start.”

“It worked,” Cody’s words were low and husky, but the trickle of hurt and confusion had faded.

“Yeah, it did. Too well. I had no idea how to dig myself out of the hole I found myself in, but I was going to figure it out, Cody. Because I wanted all those things we talked about, and I didn’t want them with a stranger on the phone. I wanted them with you.”

  “Sol.”

“If you’re not serious, if you don’t want to see where this thing goes, you need to tell me now, Cody.”

“I want this. I’m serious. I could have walked away when I figured it out, Sol. I didn’t. I don’t like that you’re keeping secrets from me. It’s scary and too real. Promise me you’ll tell me, Sol. If I have to promise I’m serious about trying, you have to promise to tell me the truth.”

  Sol breathed in. “That’s fair.”

“You’re totally a top secret covert government operative who took a super serum and—”

Sol leaned in and kissed him, taking the words into his mouth. Cody groaned and pushed them together, wrapping his arms around Sol’s neck as the hot water pelted over them. He devoured Cody’s mouth, eager to taste the sweet lips he’d been dreaming about for years. A little of his anger and frustration seeped in as well. Cody tasted so damn good, and he could have been tasting him for so long. A growl threatened to slip free and he pushed it down, pulling away to let Cody gasp for breath.

Cody looked up at him, his lips pink and swollen. “You’re mad at me.”

  Sol’s eye twitched.

Cody grinned. “You really wanted me the whole time. I must have driven you insane.”

  Sol’s nose twitched.

“I seem to recall a few times when I drooled over Shaq’s—”

Sol growled and kissed him again, if only to shut him up. He pulled back when Cody laughed into his mouth.

  “Sol.”

  “Brat.”

Cody laughed again, but his laugh faded and he looked into Sol’s eyes with an openness he’d not seen before. “I wish I’d known. I didn’t see it. I…I didn’t know, Sol.”

  “I know.”

Sol ran his hand down Cody’s back and cupped his ass. He shivered when Cody pressed closer, his smaller body fitting into all the dips and crevices of Sol. They fit together, even if Cody hadn’t seen it and Sol had given up thinking it was possible.

Cody moaned before he gasped Sol’s name once more.

“I like it when you do that,” Sol grumbled. He teased his other hand down Cody’s back before gripping his ass and lifting Cody. Cody wrapped his legs around Sol’s waist and grabbed his shoulders.

“Super strength from super serum, Sol,” Cody teased, but his eyes closed as he began moving his hips and pressing his hard length into Sol’s abs.

  “You’re not that heavy.”

Cody scoffed. He bit his lip as his head dropped back.

Sol couldn’t have stopped his smug grin if he tried as Cody’s hands explored his shoulders, his back, down his arms, and over his chest. Teasing touches that Cody didn’t even seem aware he was doing.

  “Open your eyes.”

Cody lifted his head and opened his eyes. His beautiful gray blue eyes were a bit glassy. His pupils were blown. His breath was coming in short pants as his heartbeat quickened. “Sol.”

  “What do you want?”

Cody blinked at him and dove in for another kiss. Their mouths crashed together and Sol pushed Cody against the tiled wall of the shower. He demanded entrance to Cody’s mouth, pushing his tongue inside to tease with Cody’s. He tasted pancakes and sprinkles and the pure sweetness that was all Cody.

Sol broke away after another minute, fighting the red haze that threatened to break free. His beast was very happy with his choice. “Let me tell you what I want,” Sol said.

Cody nodded and tucked his face into Sol’s neck. He nibbled and sucked his way up to Sol’s ear.

“I want to get you nice and clean and opened up for me. Then I want to take you to bed. I’ll bend you over it and spread that sweet ass wide. I want to be inside you, fill you up with me. I want to fuck you, hard and fast. I won’t be able to do slow this time, Cody.”

Cody groaned and raised his head. “Fuck, that mouth of yours! Do that, Sol. All of that.”

Sol kissed him again, unable to resist the temptation, then put Cody down. He backed away slowly, even though Cody had him by the shoulders and didn’t seem inclined to let him go. “Stay here.”

Cody moaned and leaned against the wall. He took his cock in his hand, but Sol grabbed his wrist. “Mine.”
