  Right?

Absolutely right. Breathe, Quinn, we got all dressed up, let’s go and try and enjoy the night.

“Let’s go do the party thing. Plus you said the food would be good and I’m starving.”

Hunter grins at me, shaking his head. “Of course it’s the food that keeps you here.”

“Hey, good food shouldn’t go to waste,” I tease, quickly sticking my tongue out at him as Meyer releases me and comes to my side before putting his arm around my waist once more.

“Come on then, Kitten. Let’s go show these rich assholes just how good you look and let them wish they were us for a night.”

I roll my eyes at him, but say nothing because I know he’d just argue back with me. Instead, I straighten my shoulders and lift my head up high. This crowd might not think I fit here, but I fit with these three, wherever they go, and that is the only knowledge I need to get me through whatever the rest of this night holds.

So far, this night has been so much more fun than I thought it would be. I’ve danced, laughed, and enjoyed the company of my guys. I mean, I’ve also been bored to tears by some of the conversations that I’ve been privy to, but I’m taking the good with the bad, especially since the good has outweighed it.

Meyer got dragged away by the politician of the night a few minutes ago when the dinner dishes were taken away, and Rory went to try and save him not long after, leaving me with Hunter, who has been coming up with fake stories for the socialites here tonight. To say it's been amusing would be a hideous understatement. I’ve laughed so hard that I’ve almost cried.

The food has been divine too. My dessert is currently staring up at me and I’m wondering just how much of it I can eat without bursting out of this dress.

“One day, you’re going to look at my dick the way you’re looking at that brownie,” Hunter murmurs and a laugh falls from me so loud that the rest of the table looks at me. I’m kind of over the judgment of the people here tonight and part of me wishes Shae was here because watching her run circles around these people would’ve been great, but also, I wouldn’t want her to be lulled to sleep by some of the dreary conversation.

“Play your cards right,” I say back to him quietly. “And maybe I’ll look at your dick like that before I choke on it. Maybe even before we leave here tonight.”

His eyes go wide, his spoon halfway to his mouth, frozen, almost in disbelief. “You start making promises like that, Angel, and I’ll tear you away from this table quicker than you can say boo.”

“Boo,” I tease, before taking a bite of my brownie. I moan as the bitterness of the dark chocolate mixes with the tart raspberry puree. Goddamn, that’s good.

“Moan like that again and you won’t be finishing the dessert,” Hunter promises, his hand running up the slit of my dress, his fingers caressing the skin at the apex of my thighs.

Two can play at that game.

I use my other hand to take another mouthful of the brownie, moaning as I rub his dick through his pants. He jerks up in his chair and I smirk at him when his eyes narrow at me. “Oh, Angel, you have no idea just how badly you’re playing with fire.”

“I’m pretty sure I do,” I tease back. “Maybe I just like the idea of getting burned.”

His eyes practically glow as he stares over at me, his entire body leaning in toward me. I can feel the excitement and anticipation rolling from him. “You want to play, Angel?”

“I don’t know what you mean,” I say innocently, fluttering my lashes at him. “Games aren’t really my bag.”

“Oh, I’m fairly sure I know just how to get you to join the team sport, Angel. In fact, I bet I can get you to scream as loud in here as I did that night in the elevator, even though you tried real hard not to.”

My cheeks flame and his smirk back at me tells me just how much he’s enjoying my reaction to him.

“Never,” I prod. “I don’t think you even really made me come that hard that night. It was the tequila making me fuzzy. Probably couldn’t make me scream here if you tried.” Baiting him like this is more fun than I thought it would be, even if it does still feel a little foreign. Especially in a place like this.

“Oh, really?” He asks, leaning in so close that I can feel his breath on my skin. “Want to test your theory, Angel? Because I am more than willing to rise to that particular challenge.”

“And how exactly do you suggest we give you that opportunity?” I ask, licking my lips slowly, his eyes following the movement avidly. “Plus, wasn’t I the one that was supposed to be devouring you like I’m devouring my dessert?” I take another bite, moaning again. Partly for effect, partly because it’s just that good.

“Oh, Angel… I’ll let you devour me good and right, don’t you worry. I wouldn’t dream of denying you. Now how about you head to the bathroom, the one just as we came in, and wait for me. I won’t be long.”

I stare at him wide eyed for a minute, wondering if he’s serious, but when he holds my gaze, I know he is. A wave of apprehension rushes through me, but I push it back. Playing with him is way more fun than giving in to fear. Fear has taken enough from me, I’m not going to let it keep winning.

Taking the last bite of my brownie, I dab at my mouth with my napkin like a goddamn lady, then stand and walk away from the table without a word. Thrill rushes through me at the prospect of the game we’re playing because this is what life is supposed to be about. Fun, exciting, risk taking.

I can feel his eyes on me as I head toward the entrance of the room and spot the bathroom to the left, right next to where the three of them huddled with me when we arrived.

At least this will be a much more fun memory of the night.

I duck into the bathroom and step in front of the mirror, straightening out my hair, laughing at the obvious excitement on my face. In a moment of madness, I lean forward and peel off my panties, because why not make it a little more fun.

My breath hitches with excitement when the door opens and I stand up straight, glancing in the mirror, ready to see my blond haired Adonis.

Except what I see turns my blood to ice and I’m frozen in place, despite everything inside of me screaming at me to run.

Trent steps forward, the gun in his hand pressed against my back, and I want to vomit when he leans forward and sniffs my hair. That’s when I notice the blood spatter on his white shirt. He’s dressed in a tux, except his tie is loosened around his neck, and there’s a tear in the shoulder of his jacket.

  This can’t be happening.

Tommy was supposed to be watching him.

  How is he here?

Icy fear trickles down my spine and every part of me that’s been training to fight him freezes. I can fight, I can’t run, it’s like everything shuts down and I can’t even scream.

He runs his nose up my cheek and I gag, swallowing the vomit that rises. He takes the panties from my fingers and presses them against his face as he pushes the gun harder into my back. Glancing at the panties in his hand, his sadistic grin widens. “Oh, Sweetheart, I knew you’d be missing me, but I didn’t think it would be this much. It took a lot to get to you, but I made a few new friends who helped. Even if it took spilling a little blood, we both know that wasn’t going to keep me from you after all this time.” My heart stutters, because I don’t know who he’s talking about.

  Tommy?

  Hunter?

He should be here by now.

  Why isn’t he here?

He moves slightly and pain splinters through my head. It takes a second to register the sight in the mirror, the gun above my head where he hit me with it. My vision starts to falter and I feel my legs go weak. I try to grip the counter, to stay conscious, to buy time for someone, anyone, to find me. Just something.

But then I see the syringe in his hand, and in a blink, a stinging pain explodes in my neck as he plunges it into my flesh. “I imagine after slutting it around like you’ve been doing, you have a whole host of new things to show me. Now, you sleep. I’ll get out of here before one of your little thugs decides to come and find you. By the time you wake up, we’ll be home. You belong to me, Quinn. You should know better, but I’m going to make sure you can never leave me again.”
