Obsession: Forbidden Alphas, page 5
They’ll help regulate her body temperature and keep her feeling safe.
For good measure, he also places his black hoodie near her head, so his scent will cover her.
Hopefully, when she wakes up, she’ll be more…amicable to their situation.
He’s not counting on it, though.
He sits in her cozy recliner next to the couch, watching her intently as he takes a syringe out of the duffel bag. He injects himself with his Rut suppressant, thankful that he thought to take as many as he could with him.
If he didn’t have them, he’d turn into more of a monster than he already is.
The thought makes him chuckle. He’s not sure if he could get any worse than he already is.
“Mrupp.”
Well, at least someone disagrees with him.
The cat hops onto his leg after he puts the syringe away and nestles into his lap almost immediately. Her purr is ridiculously loud, and he takes his time stroking her soft fur.
Cats were never on the Alpha military island. He had almost forgotten what they were like until he ran into the black feline for the first time.
“Do you think she’ll be nicer to me when she wakes up?” he whispers to the cat. “I brought her food. I fed you, and you like me. So, I’m hoping this works, too.”
He scratches Pearl gently under the chin, and she purrs louder.
“Yeah,” he mutters, frowning. “I don’t think it’ll work either. I am kind of a bastard.”
Audrey starts to stir, small whimpers escaping her throat as she kicks at the nesting blankets.
The sound both excites him and squeezes his chest with fondness at the same time.
Go to her. Care for her.
He’s up and out of the chair before he realizes it.
CHAPTER 8
AUDREY
She’s warm. She’s safe.
And so, so comfortable.
Her head still aches and her body is still cramping, but there’s a bit of relief as she lays bundled up in the softest fabric she’s ever felt.
She’s surrounded by luxury, with the gentle, delicious scent of pine and cedarwood.
She’s home. There’s a sense of peace she hasn’t felt in weeks. It’s as if a weight is finally lifted off her shoulders and she’s truly at ease.
Her eyes open, and she kicks off the blankets with a gasp.
These aren’t her discount sheets.
These are high-end nesting blankets. She’s felt them before in the lab; they’re soft, luxurious, and the designer ones cost a fortune.
Then, she meets a pair of intense blue eyes, and it all comes back to her.
She gasps in fear, frantically trying to escape from the bundle of fabric before he gets too close.
But her body still aches, and she’s hardly fast enough to evade his grasp.
“Audrey. Baby. Hey,” he says, his expression soft as he grips her shoulders. He’s on the floor, kneeling in front of her, face inches from hers, and she jerks away from his grasp.
“Don’t touch me,” she hisses, but his hands simply move to her forearms to hold her tighter, pinning her in place.
But even his touch, as harsh it as is, clears her head. Her migraine is gone, and his scent swirls around her, sending a calming, soothing sensation throughout her body.
It’s the hormones. That’s it.
“I told you I would come back,” he says, his eyes bright with amusement. “Do you not remember our conversation, baby?”
“Stop—stop calling me that,” she stutters, because no one has ever called her babe or baby, and she hates the tiniest bit of secret delight she feels at that.
Objectively speaking, he’s attractive. Objectively speaking, blonde hair and blue eyes has always been her type.
I can blame this on the hormones, she thinks to herself. It means nothing. It’s science.
“What would you prefer?” he says softly. “Dear? Sweetheart? Darling?” He whispers the last one, and it sends a tingle through her spine. His grip on her has relaxed, and she’s not actively struggling against him anymore.
“I’d prefer you to leave me alone,” she answers. “Turn yourself in. They’re looking for you.”
He releases her and sits back on his knees. “Turn myself in?” He laughs, and she’s never been more terrified of him. “To whom? The police? The Beta army?”
He won’t stop laughing, as if it’s the funniest joke he’s ever heard, and it makes her want to scream and run.
“Oh, sorry,” he chuckles when he catches her expression. “I’m frightening you. Sorry, babe, that’s just…wow, that’s just really fucking funny.”
She swallows, and she’s not sure whether to apologize or ask him why he’s so amused.
But he answers before she can respond. Leaning forward, he cups her face in his warm hands, and his smile turns into a smirk. The tension in her body melts at his touch, but not the tension in her heart.
“Do you know what would happen if I turned myself in?” he whispers. “If I did what you asked of me?”
He leans closer, and for a moment she’s scared he’s going to kiss her.
“Everyone in that building would die,” he promises, “and I’d be back here with you by the end of the day.”
Even though his claim is ridiculous, she believes him.
The smile falls from his face, and he frowns. “I’m scaring you,” he says to himself. He removes his hands from her face and watches as she struggles to scoot to the other side of the couch and away from him.
But her movements are stilted and her body aches in pain. She lets out a startled yelp as her womb cramps and she barely makes it a few feet away from him before she collapses, her legs caught in a twisted mess of blankets and pillows.
It hurts, and the only time she felt remotely better was when he was closer to her.
It’s just biology. It means nothing.
“Why can’t you just leave me alone?” she whispers. “Just go, please.”
She expects a clever retort, but he simply shrugs. “I don’t have a choice anymore,” he says solemnly. “And neither do you.”
“That’s not true,” she insists through her pain. “There’s always a choice. You can choose to leave, right now, and never come back.”
Her voice cracks on the last word. She doesn’t want this monster to see her break down.
“I won’t even call the police,” she promises. “You can go to Canada, or wherever they’re offering you asylum, and…and this can be done with.”
He stares at her, his expression blank, and anxiety rolls in the pit of her stomach.
The Alpha in front of her is nothing but chaos, and she can’t welcome that into her life.
His gaze falls to her mouth, then to her trembling hands, and he shakes his head. “You need me,” he says finally. Then, he reaches behind the coffee table and pulls out a small paper bag. “And you need these,” he says. He hasn’t moved from his spot on the ground, and he doesn’t come any closer as he tosses the bag onto the couch. Whatever is inside rattles, and Audrey’s eyebrows raise in surprise.
She grabs the bag and dumps out the small pill bottle. She recognizes the label immediately, and suddenly she’s not as fearful of him.
“How did you—” she starts, but he stops her.
“It wasn’t easy, I can assure you,” he says. “But I’m nothing if not determined. They should have always been accessible to everyone, anyway.”
He watches her intently as she twists off the cap and drops two of the white pills into her palm.
He’s brought her emergency-grade suppressants. If she didn’t work in her field, she wouldn’t recognize the significant shape or brand of the pill, but she knows she’s holding a medication worth thousands of dollars in her hand.
She’s speechless as he holds out a bottle of water to her, which she takes tentatively. Their fingers brush for a moment and a jolt of electricity runs down her spine.
Alpha cares for us! a little, foreign voice inside her rejoices. He did this for us!
She takes the little voice and its accompanying thoughts and shoves them into a box for later when she doesn’t feel like she’s at death’s door.
“Thank you,” she whispers, and she pops the pills into her mouth. She swallows them down as he watches intently. His expression softens as she sips from the bottle.
When he’s not saying something outlandish or frightening, he’s extremely handsome. In his sweater and jeans, he looks like any Beta she might have dated.
But it’s the eyes that give him away. Although he looks to be in his late twenties, his eyes are haunted, showing eons of pain.
“There are enough suppressants in that bag to last you at least five more Heats,” he says, breaking her out of her trance. “And the nesting blankets should keep you calm as well.”
She’s unsure what to say. He could have broken in here, taken what he wanted and hurt her repeatedly, like she was taught an Alpha would.
“You’re staring,” he says softly, and he chuckles when she looks away. “So, you don’t think I’m so bad looking after all, huh?”
She scoffs in disbelief.
He’s impossible.
He finally stands and makes his way to the other side of the couch, and she doesn’t attempt to run.
She probably should, but the man just broke federal law to make sure she had the medication she needed.
“You were smart to not go to the hospital,” he says. “Have you been watching the news?”
“Not since the other day,” she admits, relief flowing through her as the suppressants start to kick in.
He can stay a little longer, she supposes. Then, she’ll kick him out.
“Hmm. You probably shouldn’t then. It’s not a good time to be an Omega,” he says, smirking. “You never know what could happen to you.”
His scent, calming and delicious, caresses her. He shouldn’t smell so good; he shouldn’t be so tempting.
Snap out of it. It’s hormones.
He’s still a stalker, still a literal psychopath who broke into her home—
“Luckily, you have me now,” he adds.
She swallows down her retort, knowing she’s not in any condition to argue with him.
And partly because a tiny part of her likes that idea.
She’s never had anyone. Of course, she’s had her parents, her sister, her boss…but no one has willingly wanted to belong to her.
It makes her head spin.
“I don’t even know your name,” she says as evenly as she can. “You’re still a stranger to me.”
He shifts closer on the couch, and she knows she should move away, but she stays in place. “Really? You let a stranger tuck you in, cook you dinner, and feed your cat? I can’t wait to see how you treat me when we’re finally on a first name basis.” He smiles, and the dimples show again.
He’s equal parts terrifying and sexy.
IT’S JUST THE HORMONES!
“I didn’t let you in,” she argues weakly, doing her best to ignore the ache in her chest. “You broke into my house. Twice.”
“More than twice, actually, but we can agree to disagree,” he says, amused when she gives him a startled look. “I know, baby, you’re tired. It’s okay. You’re still the smartest girl in the world to me.”
She squirms uncomfortably, suddenly aware of the fresh gush of slick dripping out of her cunt.
He must smell it, yet he keeps his distance on the other end of the couch, his body language open and relaxed.
This is madness.
“I really need you to leave—”
“Julian.”
“What?”
“My name is Julian,” he confirms. “Now I’m not a stranger to you.”
Her heart does a strange little flip, but she ignores it.
She sighs. “Look, you can go to Canada and they will offer you asylum…thank you for everything, for bringing me these suppressants, but—”
“Audrey,” he says, turning his body so he’s directly facing her on the couch. It’s unnerving, and he pierces her with his gaze. “You’re not understanding, baby. I’m not going anywhere without you.”
Alpha won’t leave us!
Her irrational internal voice is back, jumping with joy at his words.
If she hadn’t felt like she’d been hit by a truck for the last few days, she would argue with him more. Deep down, she knows this isn’t right. She may be an Omega, but that doesn’t mean she has to have an Alpha. And certainly not the one that’s looking at her like that.
Her state is in shambles, the government is a shitshow, and the last thing she needs is to be harboring a fugitive.
But the longer she looks at him, the more she wants.
The less her head hurts and the more her nipples ache.
She’s still bundled in the blankets and wrapped in her robe, but she feels exposed before him.
The longer she’s around him, taking in the supplies he brought her, the less she’s afraid of him.
That could just be the suppressants doing their job.
But she doesn’t want to run anymore. She may not even want to kick him out of her house just yet.
Maybe he can stay for a bit.
“You don’t even know me,” she offers weakly. “I don’t know you. This is all hormones. I don’t really feel like this—”
He gives her a knowing smile, and his dimples reappear. “I read your entire file at your research center. I studied your work.”
Pride swells in her. “You did?”
She hates how delighted she sounds. It shouldn’t matter what he—Julian—thinks.
“Of course I did, baby,” he murmurs, his eyes falling to her lips again. Before she can think, he’s mere inches from her, and reaching out to caress her cheek.
He’s unhinged. He’s dangerous. He’s…
He’s hers.
My Alpha.
“My smart girl,” he whispers, his finger tracing down her cheek to her lips. She parts them slightly, her breath coming out in sharp pants. “You were doomed the moment you snuck in that night. You know that by now, right? How could I ever leave you alone after that?”
She’s stunned by his words and his gentle touch. She leans into it, tingles of pleasure dancing through her body until she’s suddenly pulled onto his lap, the blankets falling away. Her thighs are on either side of his hips, and she grips his shoulders for purchase as she straddles him.
“You need me,” he growls, gripping her chin roughly and forcing her to meet his eyes. “And do you know why?”
I don’t need anyone! she wants to say, but she’s frozen in his hold.
“Not just because of the suppressants,” he whispers against her ear, as she shivers. She fights back a moan, embarrassed by her reaction. “And not just because I’ll stuff you with my knot until you can’t move.”
His voice, low and raspy, makes her whimper. She presses against his lap, rocking herself against his erection, biting her lip from the pleasure.
She waits for more seductive words, but his next sentence stuns her.
“Because I have the answers you want, baby.”
CHAPTER 9
JULIAN
She’s soaking his lap.
She’s beautiful, her dark hair tangled and her creamy skin flushed pink with arousal.
He’s so fucking hard it feels like he might combust, but he’ll be damned if he doesn’t hear those words first.
Only when she’s fully admitted that she needs him, will always need him, will he fuck her senseless.
But feeling her rock back and forth on his clothed cock with her sweet slick dripping down both of them is enough to make him rethink his decision.
So, he tells her what he can offer her, and it makes her sit back in confusion.
“Answers?” she breathes, her pupils blown and her eyes glassy.
So fucking beautiful.
“The things you’ve wanted to know about Alphas and Omegas,” he says, delighted at her expression. “The way our bond works. All of it. Things you could never have studied in that laboratory.”
And just as he suspected, she’s hungry for the knowledge. Her eyes widen in disbelief, and her scent sweetens.
This is how she smells when she’s happy.
He wonders how often he can make her produce that aroma.
Then she shakes her head, and her expression falls.
“That’s what those classified documents are for. I already read them,” she says slowly. “Everything I need to know is in there.”
Got her, he thinks to himself. He grins, and her scent deepens with fear.
“And who do you think leaked those?” he asks. “Hmm?”
She takes a moment to put it together. Her brain is probably murky from presenting, but once she realizes what he’s implying, it’s an absolutely delicious sight.
She stares at him in bewilderment.
“No, you didn’t,” she says slowly, shaking her head. “It couldn’t have been you.”
He chuckles. “But it was, baby. I had so much fun doing it, too. Almost caused a riot.”
After he anonymously uploaded the documents to the internet, he had watched with delight as every news station reported it. He enjoyed every moment of outrage after the truth came out about how Alphas were treated and how Omegas had been lied to their entire lives.
It was wonderful.
And every person who died because of it, every government official that was attacked, made him smile.
It was the happiest he had been in a long time, until he met her.
“You…” she breathes, as his hands fall to her waist. The sash on her robe is slightly undone, revealing delicious skin underneath. “You leaked it? Why?”
“Because what’s happened here is wrong,” he says. “And it’s time everyone knew. Including you.”
She blinks and then surprises him by leaning into him and brushing her mouth against his. She kisses him greedily, and he responds immediately, gripping her waist and pushing her down against him hard. He hasn’t kissed anyone in years, much less tasted an Omega, and he finds it’s intoxicating. Her tongue is in his mouth, and she grips his biceps, her hands feeling and enjoying his muscles.
