ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I have COVID-19 to thank for this book. For months my husband and I were training to hike the Milford Track in New Zealand. My husband had walked it multiple times before, but I wanted to experience it for an idea I had for a book. Months of training occurred and in February of 2020, we were almost set to depart. Except, the world had other plans. Our trip was cancelled as NZ closed its borders, like many countries did at the time.
We made a quick decision to divert our plans to Carnarvon Gorge in Outback Queensland. I had my doubts but as the story idea was one of nature versus modern development, it could still work. We left the kids behind in a blur of uncertainty but in the knowledge we weren’t that far away (8 hours by car). Carnarvon Gorge turned out to be very special and the absolute perfect setting for the story that was developing in my head. It was such a wonderful thing to walk the track, gaze at its wonder and beauty and all the time taking notes, soaking up the atmosphere while forming my characters and the story in my head. So, thank you COVID-19 (for this one and only thing!)

This was an amazing ride, amazing story and very creative throughout, very art oriented...loved the setting for the story, I bathed in a rural area of Australia, a little community where everyone helps out with each other, the dynamics and drama with characters I really enjoyed and kept me interested throughout, no way did I wonder at any point away from the story, the plot twists I loved, absolutely enjoyed reading the whole scenario, a bit sad near the ending but this story wouldn’t be complete without it as the author weaves this as a well rounded balanced climax to the end.
