"Have you?" he coaxed deeply while his free hand glided over her body.

"Remember the night a long time ago. Well, you probably don't remember, but you gave me some of your drink when I had trouble sleeping."

"The hell if I don't remember that," he let his thumb rest heavily on her nipple. The simple act made her throb. Leaning down, he captured her lips in a hot slow kiss bringing her closer to him. Feeling his hot length against her stomach, she swallowed hard. "God I bet you don't remember what you said to me that night?"

"What?" She didn't remember saying anything.

"You said you wished you were the woman in my bed that night."

  "Oh my God."

"Yeah it nearly killed me," he grumbled still obviously frustrated from her words years ago. "From that to you telling me you love me every day, and you undressing me with your eyes every damn day. I'm proud of myself I held back for this long."

Laughing she snuggled in closer to his heat. His large body seemed to radiate so much heat she had to fight off the lull of sleep. How could she be sleepy when he just mentioned getting a new place together. Her heart swelled at the permanence of his words alluded to. Please God, she hoped this lasted forever. But she didn't want to just hope.

A few minutes ticked by as she internally wrestled with her doubt. She wanted to just ask him point blankly, but what if she reached the moment. Or worse ruined everything. What if her asking him is the same mistake all the other women before her made? Now the swelling in her heart to a clenching vice.

"Ok what are you thinking?" he asked she could hear the frown in his voice.

"What?" No, I was..." she tried to make her voice light and playful, but she failed miserably.

"Misha," his unspoken command did not go unnoticed in the simple statement of her name. "Your whole body went from soft to tense, and I can feel you eyelashes blinking against me. What are you thinking?" He pushed her away from him just far enough so he could look her in the eye. For the first time in all the years living with the silent criminal, he looked unsure.

"Are you having second thoughts," he paused, the grip on her shoulders tightened.

"No, no of course not," she rushed to reply. "It's just that, I was just thinking," God now the words were getting twisted in her head from fear.

Taking a deep breath she continued.

"I'm scared that you might grow tired of me. I mean what can I do differently that your girlfriends in the past could not do."

"Girlfriends?" Mikhail's eyebrows furrowed together in confusion as he stared at her before relaxing in clarity. "I see."

Mikhail sat up in the bed and for a second of pure panic she thought he was leaving, instinctively she grabbed his arm. Looking at her hand and her fear stricken face Mikhail paused before sighing in what seemed to be disappointed.

Quickly letting go of his arm Misha grabbed the covers to get up as well, she needed to apologize. The whole mood was ruined, and she was the cause.

Propping himself against the headboard he pulled her into his lap just as he did the other night. Pushing her tangled hair out of the way with one hand she clutched the sheet to her breast with the other.

With their faces inches apart Mikhail gave her a self-depreciating smile.

"I am not proud to say that all the women that I have been with have been paid in one way or another."

He paused letting the information sink in.

  "All of them?"

He did not respond to the question. "I know I have everything working against me Misha. My past, my career choice, the fact that I have never been in any meaningful relationship. Before I meet you, I never knew what love felt like. Of course, you hear about it but I never believed in it. I probably would have experienced it if I wasn't robbed of my sister." his grip around her tightened. "But then one day a little girl comes into my life and tells me every day for over nine years straight that she loves me. And the by some cruel twist of fate I became infatuated with you. I was actually afraid I would somehow fuck things up, so I distanced myself. But that nearly made things worse. I finally came to terms with it my sweet little Misha. I'm scared shitless because I love you very much. I have never felt anything this fucking great and debilitating at the same time. Please believe me then I tell you I want to spend the rest of my life with you."

Somewhere along the way she started crying. Wrapping her arms around his neck she pulled herself close, feeling his arms wrap around her in kind. It seems for so long they were both lost one way or another but now they were found.
