First Rule of the Cutthroat Vampire Collective, page 3
“Shut up,” she commanded weakly as she squirmed hard against her touch. As Alethia moved quickly, finding the rhythm that made Francisca stop breathing, the woman’s powerful body stiffened.
“Don’t stop,” she growled before falling completely still and silent. Alethia maintained her pace and was rewarded with a loud guttural moan. The sight of her gorgeous, trembling body and sound of her ecstasy was almost enough to send Alethia over the edge with her.
As Francisca struggled to catch her breath, Alethia smirked with self-satisfaction. The moment didn’t last long. In one fell swoop, Francisca carried her off the bed and pinned her body against the headboard. In a moment, Alethia’s fuzzy head registered she was being held up by her thighs by the woman now kneeling on the bed.
“Well, fuck me,” she said in disbelief. No one had ever had their way with her quite so literally.
“I intend to,” Francisca replied before plunging her tongue so far into Alethia that it snatched the breath from her body.
Francisca’s biceps bulged and her back strained as she kept Alethia upright while devouring her. The targeted onslaught made Alethia’s eyes roll in the back of her head. She tangled her fingers in dark hair to keep her balance and forced herself not to succumb too fast. She wanted to revel in the white-hot, euphoric experience. Between the skilled Amazon’s ministrations and the intoxicating effects of her blood, she didn’t stand a chance. Within moments, her body betrayed her and she careened off the edge with Francisca’s name on her lips.
“Now you really should rest,” Francisca said as she gently returned Alethia’s body to her bed. They spoke no further after Francisca eased herself in next to her.

“What’s the plan?” a young woman asked no one in particular as they gathered in the living room.
“They’re on the Southside of the island,” another reported.
“How many?” Alethia asked. Her body still buzzed from the influx of extraordinary blood and a spectacular evening in bed. She felt like she could take a hundred of them on her own now.
“Four.”
“That’s it?” Alethia scoffed.
“That’s all that’s left,” the woman replied, cracking her knuckles in an exaggerated display.
“Cheers,” she replied with a grin.
As soon as the sun was close enough to the horizon, the group, having lost only one of their members in the prior evening’s attacks, set out in the direction of the invaders.
Alethia held her sniper rifle close to her body, grateful that one of Francisca’s crew had retrieved it. They moved silently despite their numbers and listened for the whistle of alarm from the scout they’d sent ahead.
“This is strange,” Alethia whispered seriously against Francisca’s ear, but the group didn’t stop despite her misgivings about the lack of confrontation. This group wouldn’t just wait like sitting ducks on a boat.
“Maybe they’ve left?” another whispered as they approached the edge of the cliff to look down where the boat had been moored. There was no sign of them now.
Alethia shook her head. They wouldn’t leave such a prize behind. Morris might have offered them even more than he’d offered her. It would’ve been plenty for Alethia to retire permanently, even with her expensive tastes. She couldn’t imagine what that sum of money would mean for much younger vampires.
Before Alethia assembled her rifle and scurried up the nearest tree to get a better look from above and through her scope, a blood-curdling scream broke the silence. Her eyes went black and her fangs tore free.
Four had been a terrible estimate, she decided, as ten vampires swarmed them from all sides.
“Frankie, behind you!” Alethia called out just in time for the Amazon to turn and catch two springing vampires, one in each hand. The third, flying in from out of nowhere, Alethia caught with her teeth.
The poor creature let out a terrible shriek as Alethia crushed him between her jaws and inflicted a grievous injury from which there was no recovery. From the corner of her eye, she confirmed Francisca had the situation well in hand and then leapt to the aid of one of her crew.
The woman’s neck had been sliced open, but before her assailant could inflict a mortal wound, Alethia jumped on his back.
“Put pressure on it!” Alethia called before plunging her fangs in the vampire’s neck and severing his spinal cord. Her trusty blade finished the job just in case he’d survived the first injury.
The girl on the ground was bleeding profusely. Alethia’s eyes darted between the fight and the girl. Her life force was fading, but there were still so many to eliminate.
I’m too nice, she decided with an eye roll.
“Alright now, don’t try to be a hero,” she said, tearing her own clothes to make a tourniquet. By the time she’d managed to stem the bleeding and return the girl’s pulse to a faint presence, the battle was over.
“I wouldn’t have taken you for the Florence Nightingale type,” Francisca said casually as she wiped her enemy’s blood on her shirt.
“I believe the words you’re looking for are thank you, darling. And you should know, I charge extra for resuscitative aid.”
“Duly noted,” she replied as seriously as she could before ordering two women to carry the injured back home.
When they’d burned the bodies of the fallen would-be assassins, Francisca sent the rest of her team ahead and led Alethia in the opposite direction.
“You’re a pretty good fighter, for a vampire.”
“I don’t see how you would have gotten on without me,” she replied soberly.
“Have you ever looked inside a volcano?” Francisca asked abruptly.
“I can’t say that I have,” she replied casually and followed a sprinting Francisca, who was already several yards ahead.
* * *
“It will be daylight soon,” Francisca announced as she pulled off her ash covered clothing.
“Funny how that happens when you spend hours scaling up the side of a volcano and wading around tide pools. Almost as if you wanted to squander the moonlit hours.”
Francisca shrugged before throwing the remainder of her dirty clothes in the corner and approaching Alethia, who was leaning against the doorway to the bedroom.
“I suppose you’ll have to stay until nightfall. What a shame,” she tutted.
Alethia fought the urge to smirk. “A shame indeed.”
Francisca peeled off Alethia’s clothes and tossed them into the pile. “Might as well launder these,” she added as her lips lazily grazed Alethia’s neck, leaving a trail of goosebumps in her wake.
“Very reasonable suggestion,” she replied, her eyes closing to indulge in the sensation.
“I suppose I should wash you up too,” she said, walking Alethia backwards toward the bathroom.
“Only logical,” she whispered when Francisca’s hands found the small of her back and pressed their nude bodies together. She wrapped her arms around her neck reflexively and allowed herself to be taken to the shower as they kissed.
“You can stay a little longer than that if you like,” she added as the open shower filled the room with steam. “I don’t get many visitors,” she added with a murderous gleam in her dark eyes.
“I can’t imagine why lovers aren’t breaking down your door when you live in such an accessible and hospitable place. Especially when you have a reputation for being so sweet and welcoming.” Alethia grinned as she stepped in behind Francisca and ran her fangs over her shoulder blade. “Though I suppose you have plenty of gorgeous playthings to keep you company.”
“You know what they say,” Francisca replied as she pressed Alethia’s body against the tile and situated herself between her legs. “Variety is the spice of life.”
“They certainly do say a lot of inconsequential things, don’t they,” she offered while surrendering her lips to Francisca’s advance.
* * *
“Are you sure you can’t stay a little longer,” Francisca asked as they watched the sunset from a safe distance.
“I wish I could, but my romantic flings cap out at a week, darling,” she said, leaving a kiss on her knuckles and enjoying the mix of their scents.
“Has it been that long, already?” she asked, lazily rolling onto her back so Alethia could enjoy her naked form for a final time.
“Time flies and all that,” she replied, her fingertips running over the smooth expanse of her abdomen. “You’re not getting sentimental on me, are you?”
Francisca laughed her loud boisterous laugh and pounced on an unsuspecting Alethia. “I didn’t know you were so gullible,” she said, still laughing.
“Very funny,” Alethia snapped, turning the tide and flipping her onto her back. “I know you’re going to miss me,” she added with her chest puffed out.
Francisca chuckled but didn’t say anything else before pulling Alethia down on top of her. “Make sure you stop by whenever you’re in town.”
“I’ll be sure to do that,” she replied, her fangs extending reflexively as her excitement grew.
“You’re insatiable,” Francisca said seriously. “Don’t get used to this, by the way. This is only because you were hurt and you saved one of my girls when you weren’t obligated to do so.”
Alethia nodded eagerly despite her usually cool exterior. She’d miss the intoxicating effects of Amazon blood.
“Not there,” she warned as Alethia picked up her wrist where no evidence of even a scratch could be found.
Alethia’s dark eyes found hers, as the woman beckoned her forward for a kiss. When she’d released her swollen lips, Francisca whispered against her cheek.
“Think of this as a parting gift and the last time you’ll taste me unless your life depends on it.” Francisca tangled her fingers in wavy red hair and pulled Alethia’s head to the tender skin of her exposed inner thigh.
* * *
Alethia whistled as she let herself in to the dark office. The locked door posed no match for her and her tried-and-true tools. Once inside, she found herself a perfect spot between hanging coats and waited.
It wasn’t long before the light switched on and a tall, thick body filled the doorway. She twisted the silencer and secured it to the barrel of her semi-automatic gun.
The high-backed chair groaned when the weight fell upon it, and the wheels squeaked their complaint. She considered making a speech. A series of insults or maybe something wry and witty, but ultimately decided against theatrics. Theatrics were often her favorite part, but today she didn’t relish in her task.
Before he could turn on his computer monitor, she fired silently and coated the screen with his hopes and dreams.
“You shouldn’t have fucked me over, Morris,” she offered casually to the corpse as she slipped out the door, grateful his assistant wasn’t at his regular post.
After the long trip home, Alethia was relieved to arrive at the small Swiss village she’d called home for over two centuries. It was a time capsule for a simpler time. The remote village had rejected modern advances. There was no noise from cars. No constant chatter from television sets. Even the telephones were at a minimum.
As soon as Alethia walked into her house, she was bombarded by her nervous housekeeper.
“Miss Carlisle, so happy to have you home. The Queen has been calling the satellite phone,” she explained in a single breath.
“Lucy? Whatever for?” she asked, wondering if she’d heard about her exploits.
“She says she needs to speak with you urgently. She needs you to go to New York but wouldn’t explain the problem.”
“How did she sound?” Alethia asked in an effort to gauge how much trouble she was in.
The housekeeper hesitated.
Alethia sensed her fear at saying the wrong thing. “You can tell me. Was she angry?”
The woman shook her head. After several seconds she peeled her eyes off the floor and looked directly at Alethia. “She sounded scared.”
