Rebel's Ultimatum, page 32
Milyn
One of the great trade and manufacturing cities in the Gavant Reach. Normally ignored by official inspections, it is the center of the ROSPM.
Milyn System
The planet of Milyn, and its orbital trade and transport station exist in this system. Milyn Station is a massive city in space. The Gavant designation is X-11-Alpha.
Olon Travar
A star system beyond the Obsidian Gate.
Omoon
A world of unrivaled luxury.
Ooo
A resource world with a respectable private garrison. They are careful to remain in good standing with the Gavant Reach, though they act in accordance with their shareholders’ need for profit.
Manufactory XX
Manufactory Twenty (XX) is a system so well known for ship building that its original name, Altar Galus, has been forgotten by most. It is said that a dozen Gavant fleets can come and go from the place and never notice each other in the congestion of ships being built, repaired, or retired there. Every available planetoid, and hundreds of space stations, are dedicated to manufacturing warships to protect the Gavant Reach.
Rosis Moon
A Hellenger colony created to mine rare metals, but converted to an agriculture and ranching community after mineral deposits were quickly depleted. Exotic fruits, hardwoods, and dozens of domestic animals are common there.
Round Spaceship
The Round Spaceship is a shady bar on Milyn Station.
Ryyth
A world of legend that is said to be beyond the influence of the Gavant Reach.
Salas Dudor
An Altion mountain region said to be beautiful.
Tucachutacadoy
A planet famous for a variety of dangerous vipers.
Tyton VI Cinema Complex
An entertainment district on Tyton VI where no unrefereed violence is allowed. Historical action dramas are the most popular genre on all Tyton worlds, and many journey to the T6CC facility at least once in their life to binge the Bosair Defense, a twelve-part live action series. There are all manner of theaters and concert halls attached to the periphery of this area. Non Tytons are generally amazed when they visit, though none to date have appreciated Tyton comedies.
Valley of Trials
Located on Tyton VII, this is one of the most important cultural regions in the Tyton kingdom. Tyton VII has less industry and is located less strategically than other planets. The Valley of Trials is a crucial part of both military and civilian life to a Tyton. Of particular note is the Circle of the Gods, where battle lords must announce their candidacy for the crown to be considered legitimate.
Volod IV
This is an isolated settlement producing a range of raw materials and finished goods. Its poor location hampers growth, and the populace rarely fights against raiders. As a true republic, they have consistently voted to just pay pirates or other aggressors that can’t be detoured by a moderate security force.
Vay’sol’ter
A Taliz world far beyond the Obsidian Gate. Lush and full of life, it was one of their most valuable holdings before an invading force destroyed the Taliz infrastructure there, and then abandoned for seemingly no reason.
RACES
Altion
The Altion have the longest association with the Gavant Reach and have assimilated more completely into their society. They are generally short, petite, and extremely graceful. Unlike their Gavant cousins, they have long hair that cannot be cut without harming the Altion in question. Hairstyles generally conceal the true length of an individual’s hair. This is normally white but can be jet black or vivid red in some instances. In the later cases, this usually causes there to be less of a metallic patterning around the thin eye sockets that reach horizontally across much of their head.
Altion can rise higher in Gavant culture than any race but Gavant. Many others such as the Hellenger, Walen, and Tyton understand this. Resentment against them is common. Most still see them as better than the Gavant rulers, though they are not easily trusted in matters of government.
Arloni
The Arloni are three-eyed ogres from the Calaxa galaxy. Large, brutish, yet intelligent, they are normally green. Arloni are famously tolerant of Cavots, which are small intelligent goats of unknown origin.
Blysir
The Blysir are a humanoid race that was exterminated by the Gavant. They are known as techno-priests and not widely loved in any galaxy.
Boakmin
Some believe the Boakmin to be the same as humans, though both Boakmin and Humans disagree with the premise.
Cavots
Cavots are small, highly intelligent goats of unknown galactic origin. They have an affinity for mischief, and also access to small portals that transport them to regions of the universe unknown to even the Arloni, their protectors.
Extaz
Talcordor, also known as 12X, claims the Monitors belong to an ancient race of aliens known as the Extaz. He also claims his job is to make sure no one knows anything about them.
Gavant
Lords of the reach. Every citizen holds state sanctioned authority over other members of the Reach including the Altion, Hellenger, Walen, and even Tytons, though few assert any kind of demand on a Tyton without a military contingent to back them up.
Gavant are tall humanoids (taller than their Altion cousins and also taller than humans). They have long necks, eyes that are horizontally wide and vertically narrow or short. Most Gavant grow magenta tattoos around their eyes (as the Altion grow metallic versions of the same markings) to accentuate this effect. It often appears as though their eyes continue onto the side of their heads, as though they can always see an enemy coming for them. Their tattoos are status symbols and can be painfully removed when sent into exile or otherwise punished.
Gavant lack the metallic or vibrant color to their skin and are normally ashy gray with haunting eyes and sharp facial features.
The Gavant do not allow merit to elevate non Gavant into their own ranks, but ruthlessly enforce such standards on their own. Gavant officers who fail tend to disappear after one or two major incidents of disgrace. Any non Gavant offer who rises above being a mid-level officer is extraordinarily exceptional, and probably a political pawn.
Gleam
Gleams are one of the more unusual races in the Gavant Reach, a galaxy where the Gavant have forced many societies to coexist under their law. Gleams are known as fun and vivacious, and are the most sociable with humans despite radical differences in appearance.
Gleams appear to have fluid gemstones for skin, usually something resembling diamonds over cool blue. Some have purple or sea green hues. Red crowns or red hands are the mark of mischief-makers, and since they are already spirited, this can lead to significant frustration on alien worlds. A Gleam with both red hands and a red crown is so rare as to be almost mythical, and are shunned for the implications this generates.
Hellenger
The Hellenger are an old race in the Gavant Reach, second only to the Altion in their time of subservience. Generally stocky, slightly shorter than humans, they are physically strong and emotionally stubborn. Other races often notice their neck being the same width as their head and their otherwise flat features.
Hellenger male and females are hard to tell apart and their society makes little distinction in public. Some speculate their true social order is a mystery, because they have been serving the Gavant, and following their laws, for so long.
Hellengers cannot close their eyes and enjoy rubbing them. Some will learn, however, that shielding them with helmets or eyewear brings significant comfort in many social situations and can have technological benefits as well.
Major Noah Gantz fondly addresses his Hellenger friend, Montow, as Soup Can due to the distinctive cranial and spinal junction. By all reports, they are the best of friends despite a growing repertoire of trash talking. For a Hellenger, this is a significant development as they are normally wise and serious at all times.
Maviks
Maviks are large, strong, and agile humanoids with cat-like facial features. They prefer to operate in small groups, though there are certain sects that hunt alone, so to speak. They can engage in banter, but often rely on silence and intimidation to earn high wages as guards. Their bodies are covered with short, tight fur of almost any color but are normally black with vibrant yellow eyes. They are proficient with all weapons used in the Gavant Reach, and prefer rod guns. These most closely resembled the firearms found on United Earth, and the crossbows of Mavik Prime. Energy wounds are thought to horribly disfigure enemies, and their culture requires them to “pierce the adversary with steel” whenever possible.
Paks
Paks are beasts of burden on Jyko some believe to be highly sentient. They resemble elephants with multiple smaller trunks and tails that drag on the ground for twice as long as their bodies. These creatures know the jungles, forests, and plains of the planet well.
Slim
A slim could pass for human, until there is direct interaction to give them away. Their sharpened teeth, for one thing, alarm anyone from Earth.
Taliz
This race is known to be long extinct as a result of the fight for Essal Aon. Three meters tall and resembling land-walking octopi, they are the subjects of horror stories and nightmares.
Tyton
Tytons are the most feared race in the Gavant Reach, though their subjugation has a long and complicated history. Few Gavants will describe one as subservient to their face. Leaders, both civilian and military, have long attempted to form bonds with the then Tyton battle lords—a secret order of legendary military prowess. Their existence is well known, and some believe they understand their martial ways, but there is far more about them that has never been discovered.
Tytons are far taller than humans, and always muscular. They have a thick, durable hide that provides natural armor but also have manufactured gear that is stronger and more advanced depending on rank within their society. No one understands the rules of hierarchy. Males and females are almost never seen together.
All warriors have dangerous horns, and usually maintain a symbiotic relationship with battle tails—fierce organisms even they don’t particularly understand. Contrary to popular belief, most Tytons are not warlike and have only nubs for horns and no tail symbionts. Non warriors keep to themselves and rarely leave their home world even with an escort.
Walens
Walens are thin, awkward humanoids with hearts of gold. Calling someone a Walen is to imply they are a true and loyal friend. Many sentient races take advantage of their good nature.
They have four fingers and two thumbs on each hand and are excellent mechanics. Their dexterity is legendary when it comes to tools or games. Many dream of adventure but few pursue it. There is a very select order of Walen warriors who are without rivals, though no one knows how to join this order of heroes.
Like many races associated with Gavant space, they have necks that are slightly longer than humans. None have hair. They are known for their trusting eyes that close from all directions at once like a camera lens.
SHIPS
Azok
Azok is a living starship thought to be both ancient and dormant. Legend says he kept life-forms hostage to absorb damage when going into battle. The mechanics of this fable are convoluted and vary widely depending on who is telling the tale.
Azok-ki
This one of Azok’s assault shuttles.
Bloody Red Fist of Death and Vengeance
Formerly Mizow’s Delight, the BRFDV became Wozim’s flagship after he was attacked by Larzul’s ca-sil.
Deliverer
The Deliverer is a merchant ship owned and captained by Bilim Kev, a cheap Altion running the trade routes near Milyn Station.
Fies
The Fies, or Firestorm, is a Tyton dreadnought.
Gavant Holin’s Reach
A starship.
Gavant Kon
A heavy cruiser.
Gavant Righteous
A battleship and flagship of General Tatum Collins.
Hoyon
A living ship that may have once been a rogue planet, and produce offspring bearing her name that became seed ships for planetary life.
Kayan
A living starship with the ability to travel great distances and heal her passengers.
Osomic
A Tyton warship.
Pya
One of the first three living starships, known only in legend. The first Kayan, Hoyon, and Pya were interdependent, but it is not known how or why.
ROSPM Righteous Diplomacy
The ROSPM Righteous Diplomacy is a small, versatile warship commanded by the lead espionage agents of the ROSPM during special circumstances.
Sa-erlon
An ancient vessel created by the Jykeen and stolen by the Seer masters.
Sweet Malindi
The modest, but heavily armored shuttle belonging to Kyldan, a fierce Tyton warrior related to Wozim.
Terrible Onyx
The Terrible Onyx is a Taliz supercarrier assigned to the invasion of the Reach galaxy.
True and Rightful Monarch
The new flagship of King Larzul.
UEDSS Journey
The United Earth Deep Space Ship Journey is a seven-person patrol vessel without warp-bubble technology.
Warrus Stryk
The Warris Stryk, or Lightning Rod, is a Ttyon dreadnought.
White Knife
A medium cruiser and flag ship of Tyton Hogg’s White Knives
Judgment of All Action (Haz-iuana-kip-vak-ko)
Tyton battleship captained by Idal of Tyton I.
The Paragon of All Victorious Monarchs (Yol-domma-ik-vak-ko)
The POAVM is one of several warships defending Tyton VII. While she is capable of fast star jumps, she is rarely utilized to travel anywhere other than Tyton homeworlds.
TECHNOLOGY, ARTIFACTS, & OTHER SMALL MIRACLES OF THE REACH
Bashim-dal
A domesticated form of livestock common to Taliz occupied worlds.
Beer
Known as stagger and fall juice or face plant liquid in the Tyton language.
Darkness
A beverage that resembles coffee but tastes like watered down syrup. The actual name for the drink is nearly impossible to pronounce and no one bothers with the word. Few races in the Gavant Reach consume this substance as the primary ingredient is an oil better used for lubricating machine parts. Deadly to Gleams.
DCV
Drone Control Vessel of the United Earth Military Drone program. A DCV is an armored stealth craft that carries a pilot, drone master, and systems expert. All three are cross trained. Though not ideal, one of them could fly the DCV and operate a swarm of thirty combat drones from up to a million kilometers distant.
Gavant Standard Currency
Gavant Standard Currency, or GSC, comes in many forms, including coins of various denominations. Most often it is traded by data-card or wireless transfer. It is rarely as strong to locals as their own money, but holds its value in general.
Moi Folds
These are the closest thing to tacos in the Gavant Reach—meat, cheese, and vegetables packed between crispy flatbread. Sauces created by Slim chefs are regarded as the best addition to this entree.
Oofta
A rare drink that approximates the magic of Earth coffee. Adding sweetener of any kind turns it into a mildly dangerous poison.
Planet-stepping
The Tyton ability to lead ground forces from one Tyton world to another without utilizing space travel. Only battle lords can initiate these portals. Non Tytons, if they’ve heard of them, believe them to be from children’s stories. Planet-stepping is used for one of two activities: civil war or mutual defense against planetary invaders.
Seer Device
A singular bonding device located on Jyko. The Seer resembles a golden spider that attaches itself into flesh, normally over the heart and spreads out like a chest plate. Recovered from a lost civilization, it was used to imprison a small group of surviving Blysir on Jyko. The Gavant military scientists who activated it refused to admit they had very little knowledge of its true purpose. The Blysir believe it whispers lies to its bearer, entering minds and making suggestions. Others maintain that it allows the bearer to use this power on his or her adversaries—and will take extreme measures to ensure the survival of the artifact bearer.
