The Book of Adam, page 17
She smiled against his shoulder. "I did not know that, Dr. Lassiter."
She kissed the side of his neck. "Did you know that one of the best exercises for women is also the most intriguing feeling for a man?"
He smiled, as he pushed her curls from her neck and kissed her right below her earlobe. "I did know that."
She could feel him growing inside her in anticipation. "I'm ready for a workout." She contracted her inner lips. His intake of breath at the motion made her smile. "Do you like that, Dr. Lassiter?"
He nodded. "I do." He pulled her thigh over his, then squeezed her behind. She followed the rhythm of his hand with her inner lips and soon they were moving to a song of their making. Kissing, caressing, loving the newness of his yang to her yin, his king to her queen, their Adam and Amber.
Hours later they fell asleep spooned together with smiles on their faces. The world could be coming to an end for all they knew or cared. For them, this was heaven.
The fragrance from Amber’s hair swimming through Adam’s nostril’s awakened him, stirring his need to have her just one more time before he completely surrendered to the depth of no return from sleep.
Amber felt the moment his arousal touched her backside. His arms tightened around her pulling her closer. The movement incited her inner lips to the point of no return. Now, she had to have him again.
He could feel her smile on his arm where her head lay. "You are asking for trouble." His groggy voice was low and stimulating.
She pushed her behind intimately against him, while taking his forefinger into her mouth. She sucked on it, tracing the length of it with her tongue. "I need you inside of me now, Adam."
Each time she sucked on his finger, he grew thicker, longer, more eager. Placing her thigh on top of his, he slid the tip of him easily inside the warm moist lips that were waiting for him. The vibration from the inner contractions stimulated him more. She bent her body forward more as he moved deeper in. The deeper he ventured, the harder she sucked. The harder she sucked, the more urgent his movements became.
Her breathing became labored as he snaked in and out until both of their faces turned into the pillow to silence the sounds of an all-encompassing orgasm. Neither moved as their eyes closed welcoming the needed rest for their bodies, their souls, their minds.
CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
This could not be happening again, rolled through Adam's subconscious, as he held Amber in his arms. Refusing to accept the interference, he pulled the warm body next to him closer.
The knocking persisted.
"Sleep," Adam called out to the rude person knocking on the door.
"Adam." The demanding voice of Sammy reached the recesses of his mind.
"Yeah," he replied groggily as he attempted to gather his senses. Amber stretched beside him causing a smile. "Hmm."
"Adam!"
"Yeah, I'm coming...I'm coming," he said as he pushed the sheet aside.
"He's coming," Amber giggled under the sheet.
Adam turned back over covering her body with his. "We have jokes early in the morning?" He kissed her face, then scrambled from the bed.
Amber watched as his naked backside walked into the bathroom. "Nice buns," she said as she laid back on the pillow. "Thick thighs."
The next statement stopped both of them mid sentence. "If the Dr. is in there with you, bring her to the Cave when you come."
It took a moment for him to reply. "Okay."
"How did he know I was in here?" A shocked Amber jumped from the bed to gather her clothes. Then she looked at her clothes in horror. "I don't have anything to change into."
Adam watched as she ran from one piece of clothing to another, buck-naked with her hair bouncing with every step. "Why are you so frazzled?"
Amber froze to stare up at him. "Your family is going to think I'm a harlot or something for sleeping in here with you."
He walked over, knocked everything from her hands then held her still by the shoulders. "They will not think that. They will know that you are the person I have chosen to be in my life." He kissed her gently on the lips. Then looked down at her. "You are short without heels on." He turned and walked back into the bathroom.
"You kissed me with toothpaste in your mouth." She frowned at the thought.
"Nice, fresh, minty." He smiled. "It really will be more efficient if you jump in the shower with me."
"Together? Like share the water...together?"
"Yes, together." He turned the shower on as he replied.
Amber stood there for a moment. She had never taken a shower with anyone before. The more she thought about it, the more ridiculous she knew she sounded. "What the hell, we shared more body fluids than that last night."
Adam held the shower door open. "My sentiments exactly.” He grinned as she stepped in.
Twenty minutes later, they were both in the cave with Ned, Roc and Samuel.
"It seems we are a little late to the party," Ned informed them. "According to Queen Akande, young Theodora has taken ill. Their medical facilities are nowhere near the level of ours.”
"What are the child's symptoms?" Amber asked as all thoughts of her wanton behavior dissipated.
"This is all happening within the last hour," Monique, who was now in Asmere, picked up. The transmission was shaky at best.
"Are there any signs of the device there?" Adam asked.
"Inconclusive," Monique replied. "The child was fine when we arrived. King Raheem, Joshua, LaVere and a contingent of Emere soldiers left to secure the mines. Queen Akande is with Teddi in the infirmary. The doctor there has no idea what to do."
"Are they protected?" Ned asked.
"The guard, Sampson and a few men are with us. I'm outside the door."
"Is it possible for us to see the child," Roc, who had an extensive military medical background, asked.
"I'll do what I can." They watched as Monique walked inside a room. The child was lying in a hospital bed with an oxygen mask over her face. The woman standing next to the bed was her mother Queen Akande and a guard stood next to the door.
"Akande, our people want to see Teddi."
Akande turned to Monique. "She is so still. I have no idea what happened." Her voice was thick with accent and worry. "She was playing in the garden as she always has. The next thing I saw was her on the ground."
"I know. We're going to try to help her." She touched the woman on the arm. "Let me get closer." Monique was now standing over the child.
"Let me see her eyes." Monique held up the child's eyelid. The doctor reached over to shine a light. "Fluids," Amber immediately said upon seeing the coloring of the child's skin. She turned quickly to Adam. "How long will it take us to get there?"
"The Supersonic jet will get you there in four hours." Ned began pushing information into the computer.
"She's been drugged," Amber stated. "I don't know with what, but I know that look."
"I concur," Roc agreed.
"But in the other cases people died immediately," Samuel said.
"A child's system is different," Adam replied. "Their metabolism is much faster and able to eliminate a foreign substance sometimes before it can manifest. They probably did not account for that."
"If the poison was administered by J.M.A.L.T.S. the effect of the drug could have been altered by the incorrect assembly of the device." Ned offered. "That strengthens the need for the people involved to capture you, Adam."
"We can't think about that right now." Adam turned back to the screen and spoke to Monique. "Can you draw her blood and send it to me for analysis?"
"That would take too long. Get me to her. We can take the equipment there." Amber took Adam's computer and began keying. "These are the items I will need."
"No." Adam caught her as she was rushing out the door. "You can't."
"Adam, I have to. There are things I can do there that I can't do from here. I will never be able to live with myself if that child dies."
"Neither would I." Roc tried several times to stand, accomplishing it with Samuel's assistance.
"You definitely are not going." Samuel held Roc back.
"Gentlemen," Ned interrupted them. "If that child dies, you will all have a price on your head. Adam, this is what Dr. Nicolas does. Let her go."
"She's not going without me."
"No, Adam. It's clear these people want you. I can't protect you over there."
"I can," Monique chimed in. "What I know is Joshua is not aware of this situation. Believe me when I tell you, we want this situation under control before he finds out."
"I concur with Monique." Roc glared at Samuel.
"Samuel, one of my best operatives will be flying that plane. Adam and Amber will be covered by Monique from the moment they land. This is no longer only about Adam. It's about a small country and a little girl." Ned removed Samuel's hand from the door. "Let them go."
"Sammy, I'll be with Joshua," Adam pleaded. "Every minute we debate this puts that child closer to death."
Samuel looked at Ned. "Is Sly on that plane?" Sly Dawson was the operative who trained Joshua. He did not like the man but knew his skill level.
"Yes," Ned acknowledged.
Samuel pointed to Roc. "You stay put." Then rushed Adam and Amber out the door. "There's certain equipment you need to take with you." They literally walked through a wall when Samuel commanded it to open. The wall slid to the side to reveal a stairwell. They walked down one level underground. Samuel placed his palm on the panel next to the door. Adam looked around amazed. He had never seen the staircase or the room they were about to enter. Samuel opened the door and a light automatically came on.
Adam could not contain his awe. He walked through the closet of weapons on the wall, touching each as if he was a child in a candy store. "I want one of these," he exclaimed, his excitement visible to all.
Samuel pulled two cases off the shelf in the back. He placed them on the table and opened one. "You know what is in this kit, Adam."
"So do I," Amber stated from behind their backs. Both men turned to look at her questioningly. Realizing they did not believe her, Amber began describing the items in the case. "Beretta ARX-160 automatic rifle. Night goggles, and GPS body armor."
They still looked as if she was a ghost. She shook her head. "Men." She took the rifle, assembled and loaded it in less than a minute. "I'm a little out of practice." She shrugged at Adam. "It's been a while."
Samuel stared at her for a minute then took the weapon from her. He broke the gun down, placed it back inside the case, then closed it. He gave them each one then closed the door. They heard the lock go into place as they rushed up the stairs.
Roc met them in the hallway with duffle bags. "Adam, here's a travel bag for you. I put your computer inside. Amber, I have a change of clothes I believe will fit you, along with a few necessities. A medical bag will be on the plane." She stopped at the door as Samuel rushed them out to the garage past vehicles and up another flight of stairs.
Lucy, who was piloting the chopper turned the switch. The blades began to move the moment they set foot on the landing pad. "Let's move it," she ordered.
Within a matter of minutes of the decision being made, they were on their way to Africa. Lucy spoke through the headset. "Once on the sonic jet you will only have four hours to sleep. I suggest you use it. When you land there is no way of knowing when you will be able to close your eyes again. Adam, your mission is to detect if the devices have been released in Asmere. If they have, it is your duty to your country to destroy them. Amber, you have one mission…save the girl. That child must not die."
Ten minutes later they were boarding the jet. A tall slim man dressed in a pinstripe suit, alligator shoes and a fedora stood in the middle of the roomy passenger area of the jet. To the left was a long sofa, to the right four seats with a table in the middle. Towards the back there was a conference table with eight seats, a monitor and several computer stations.
"This is what sleek luxury looks like." Adam raised an eyebrow.
"I guess so," Amber replied, surprised by the travel accommodations.
"There are times when this is the only place you can rest when on a mission." The man removed his hat, brought Amber's hand to his lips. "Sly," he introduced himself as he kissed her knuckles. Adam took her hand from the man. "Adam...Lassiter," he replied in a rather poignant tone.
"Ah, the young genius." He straightened to his full height, then replaced his hat. "Little brother to Joshua."
"Younger brother," Adam replied as he placed his duffle on the seat.
"Sensitive, isn't he." Sly smirked at Amber as he took the duffels and placed them in the cabinet that divided the two sections of the plane. "Alright, younger sensitive brother to Joshua, we have a four hour flight scheduled. Little time for you and I to connect. For now we'll keep it civil." He walked back to where they stood. "I'll keep my hands off the lady if you keep the attitude in check."
"The lips, too," Adam warned.
Sly raised an eyebrow. "Right. I will keep my lips off her." He looked Amber up and down then stopped at her face. "May I gaze into her eyes?"
Adam took a step in front of Amber who was smiling at the charming man. "No, definitely not the eyes."
Sly’s gaze moved to Adam. "The shoes?"
"Okay, enough," Amber interrupted the teasing. "Who are you?"
"Sly is all you need to know. I'll be protecting you in Asmere. You may want to buckle up." He walked over to the monitor then pushed a button. "They are on board, Sir."
Adam and Amber took a seat, surprised to see the President on the monitor.
"Adam, it's good to see you again. I don't like the circumstances."
"Hello, Mr. President. I have to agree with you on that point."
"Ned tells me we have a conspiracy between forces in Asmere and a high ranking official here." He sat forward. "Secretary Davenport tells me we have a lead on this end. I've deployed my best team to assist you and Dr. Nicolas. Joshua and Monique are on land. Sly is flying you over. Whatever the government has is at your disposal. The devices must be found and destroyed."
"Yes, Sir."
"Dr. Nicolas it is not a coincidence that you are on that plane. I cannot impress upon you the importance of Princess Theodora's survival. The region is a boiling pot that we need contained. She is the key."
"Yes, Sir."
"You two have been through a rough few days from what I understand. Putting a mission of this magnitude in the hands of...well, amateurs is not the norm. However, with the aid of our established team, I believe your mission will be successful."
"Thank you Sir," they both replied.
"Sly."
The man turned off the monitor, but continued to listen. "I will, Sir." Sly disconnected the call then turned to them. "Buckle up. I'm going to see how fast this baby can fly."
The man walked to the front of the plane a little too eager in Adam's estimation. "You're flying this plane?"
"Relax, younger brother to Joshua. You won't even know you're in the air." With that the door to the cockpit closed and the engine roared to life.
Adam opened his laptop then connected to Joshua's GPS location. Once he established the connection, he sent a secure message. He waited.
"Adam." He looked up to see Amber sitting directly across from him. "You haven't said much since leaving the house."
His computer beeped. "Hold that thought, sweetheart."
It wasn't what he said but the way he said it. With the emphasis on the word sweetheart.
"Adam, make it quick."
"I'm en route to Asmere."
Joshua paused then brought his watch up to look into it. "What?" The question wasn't asked in a surprised way...well maybe he was surprised, but it wasn't a happy surprise.
"Our investigation on J.M.A.L.T.S. has led us to the same person. I promised Sammy I would contact you as soon as we took off."
"Sammy let you do this?"
"Let me?" Adam shook his head. "It's my investigation, Joshua."
"There is more involved than you know, Adam."
"We've been brought up to date."
"We? We who?"
"That's not important. What you should know is I'll be landing in about four hours."
"You’re on the jet? Who is piloting?"
"Someone going by the name of Sly."
"Ned made the arrangements?"
"Yes."
He slowed his progress a bit more, clearly thinking through the information. "We are nearing the mines."
"Hold on before you go in. I'm sending you a link. Download it now." He pushed a button on the computer.
"Got it. What is it?"
"A tracker. If the device is in the area it will sound an alert."
"Any idea how to stop this thing?"
"If we can find a way to interfere with the neurotransmitter that will incapacitate its ability to transmit or receive electromagnetic waves.” He shrugged.
"What in the hell is that?"
"Never mind, I'll have something in place by the time we land."
"You do that. In the meantime watch your back."
"You do the same." With that the connection was dropped.
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
Adam closed the computer then looked into the eyes of Amber. She was not too happy. Neither was he. A few hours ago she was dressed in a nice white blouse, navy trousers and heels with soft curls framing her face. Now she was dressed in a dark tee shirt, dark jeans and Timberland boots with her hair up in a band. He liked the idea of her being every woman, but he also had a strong desire to know the person he was falling in love with. He put his feet up in the seat across from him, rested his head in his hand with one finger extended. "You have my undivided attention."
The memory of what that hand did last night filled her mind. She closed her eyes and exhaled. She needed to concentrate. Clearing her throat, she opened her eyes then tilted her head. "Your vitals indicate you are a little miffed with me."
"Don't try to entice me with the sexy doctor talk."
