  Special Note:

You'll find the following Valosian words throughout this text. They are not misspellings but alien terms. Some of the words were kept close to the English spelling—not because I’m lazy or unimaginative as I’ve been accused by some reviewers—but for the sake of readability. Also, they are no longer italicized since they seemed to have been a distraction for some readers.

This is an ever-growing list and may not have captured every single Valosian word. I'm currently working on it, so please don't hate me for not being perfect.

Adrenalyne- A hormone secreted by the adrenal glands in males only, which increases strength, endurance, and stamina for the sole purpose of protecting their spirit mate. Also, this hormone promotes healing.

  About the Book

  Murrox

Everything had been lost in a single blast. Fellow warriors I'd known my whole life, taken before my very eyes, including the one I had trusted the most. As I picked up the pieces of what was left of my clan, betrayal had begun to surface until I had no use for the crown I had been bequeathed.

Anger had become my sole companion as I trusted no others. The truth lay in the ruins of my home. With a new threat looming on the horizon, I was resolute in my determination to go after it. Then my spirit tossed me a distraction of the most feminine variety. Why her? She was even more bitter than me.

  Willow

Obsessed with finding a way off this death rock, there was absolutely nothing that could sway me from my goal—not even him. Especially not him! Definitely not the biggest, brooding a-hole on the planet. Like me, he had a reason to be pissed off, but that didn't mean I wanted to be stuck with him for eternity.

Then he goes and does something colossally stupid, and I couldn't help myself but follow.

  Chapter One

  MURROX

The swarm of Yulineon crafts descended upon us with no warning, proving my point as to why a squad should have already ventured to what was left of the Jurigon Mountains and brought back what could be found of the Gretolic's long-range weapon and what was left of my clan's nutrone. If we'd had those things, we could have reinforced the dome and been out there shooting down these fuckers instead of standing idle, hoping for the best.

"I warned you this would happen," I growled.

"Not now, Murrox!" Wynnter shouted. "Unless you're lending me a hand, stay out of my way. Willow isn't in the mine shaft with the others, so we need to keep an eye out for her."

"Fucking Helios!" A combination of worry and anger churned like rotten chiksin in my gut. Chances were good the female wasn't missing but simply being her usual defiant self and hiding from Sia Jakkar's order that all females were to go below the palace and wait out the attack. "Where could she be?"

"I know she's inside the city. She couldn't have gotten outside the dome without us knowing it. She's here somewhere," Wynnter groused. He knew as well as I did she was probably just being a pain in the ass and hiding. "How's it holding?" He turned to our new alien comrade, Zaku, with a nod at the machine powering the dome.

"Stupid, hard-headed female!" I muttered low, rubbing a concerned hand over the worried knot of my spirit pressing against my sternum. My ancillary heart, which had started beating the first moment I had laid eyes on her, squeezed with an urgency to go in search of her.

I stayed my feet. Willow was merely doing what she wanted, when she wanted, and at the moment, it was deliberately disobeying Sia Jakkar. She was safe and somewhere inside the city. Deep down, I could feel it.

It didn't matter that we hadn't shared our spirits with each other as bonded mates. There was a tiny part of Willow that lived inside me. It was little more than a glimmer of awareness. The smallest of connections formed when our spirits had recognized the other as their companionable match.

Knowing she was here didn't matter to the fresh shot of adrenalyne which coursed through my veins, demanding I set eyes on her. I fought the urge to go in search of her. I was needed here. Willow was inside the dome, and the only way I could protect my troublesome female was to help the techs keep the shielding up and operational.

I eyed the newfangled generator Wynnter and Zaku were examining with disgust. A machine that many techs had worked hard to create, I was still a firm believer in meeting my enemies on the field of battle. Fighting steel with steel. All this alien-derived technology had done was earned us enemies we were ill equipped to fight.

The Yulineon's had only come here because they'd followed the Gretolics to our world. The tech's suspected they knew of the human females because of a scanner the Yulineon's had set out in the jungle. I knew in my gut this was the reason for their attack on the dome.

I growled low. The Yulineons and their stupid rules. Humans found off their world were to be killed on sight. There was no returning them home now that they knew of life on other worlds. Enlightened was what Zaku had called it. The females we were determined to protect were marked for death.

Valosian's were enlightened too, thanks to the Gretolics. Zaku had said because of this, Valosians would have to follow the laws that governed all enlightened species called Universeval Rule. If the Yulineon's thought they were going to come here and kill our human females or force us to follow their Universeval Rule, they were in for the fight of their lives. I would fight until the last drop of my blue blood for Valose. No one was going to take away the freedoms of my world.

Blaster fire rained down overhead making me flinch. We were paying the price for the Valosians who had allied with the various warring factions of Gretolics who had come here. Each of our three clans had been visited, infiltrated, and made hollow promises by the gray aliens.

The Sias, the rulers of our respective clans, who had not bought into their lies, were forced to obey under the Gretolic's mind control. The ones who had gone along willingly, lured with greed to betray their own clansmen, were dead.

Had the little gray fuckers been struck down when they'd first arrived, we would not be in this predicament! The females of my world would not have been eradicated because of a germ that had been meant for the aliens. What made this even more unbearable was the role my Sia, Xennox, had played in the collaboration with the little gray freaks.

Every suns-rise since my home had been blown to bits with a single blast, I cursed my own ignorance. I should have been the wiser of the lies I'd been told, but I had been too trusting. The male who I'd had the most confidence had spewed the most untruths. Sia Xennox, a male I used to hold in the highest of regard, had been keeping a dark secret beneath my very boots.

An alien faction had been entrenched under our mountain fortress, had secretly mined our nutrone, and had been building a machine that could destroy a spacecraft from the ground.

When their masters, the Grites, had come here to collect them, Sia Xennox had acted as surprised as all when their scout ship had slammed into our mountain. His feigned innocence had led me to unjustly question honorable warriors from a rival clan, claiming they had knowledge of the gray creatures when all the while, Xennox knew of them. The very same rival clan who had fished me out of the rubble along with my few remaining clansmen.

Looking back, I suspected the unjust interrogations had been all to do with benefitting the infestation beneath my feet. Intelligence gathering about the other factions entrenched in the other two clans.

The weapon that had been created under my very nose was meant to destroy the spaceship which had already left the planet from the city of Huren with a cargo full of Valosian males and human females, bound for an alien world where they were to be traded for a power source and currency to make something called kripts. I'd heard the transmission Zaku had intercepted with my own ears.

It sickened me my own Sia had been involved with an alien species that would do something so vile. What else had Xennox been hiding from me? What had the Gretolics promised him that would prompt him to betray his own clan?

Every instinct in me tingled to find the truth. I owed it to myself and what was left of my clan to discover why our home had been destroyed and so many lives lost.

The majority of us had not been aware of the Gretolics presence or the feud between the various factions on Valose. The aliens were in a war between themselves. We were nothing but commodities. A species to be used and flesh to be traded to meet their own ends.

Everything I knew had been changed in a single blast. Rival clans were no longer my enemies but allies in this fight to save our world from all who dared to attack Valose from beyond the clouds. An enemy from the stars we had no weapon to fight against.

"The generator is holding, but the energy levels are draining with every blast the dome takes," Zaku replied, then looked to the ceiling of the hangar while another round of Yulineon patrols peppered their laser fire across the top of the dome. "We have to hold them off until they drain their blasters and before the dome fails."

"What do you need?" I snarled, hating that this dome was the only protection we had.

"All the power modules from the open-aired crafts," Zaku said, adjusting some gadget on the generator. "I don't want to pull power from our largest ship in case we have to use it as a last resort to exit."

"What are you waiting for, Trisess?" I clapped Wynnter on the back. I couldn't help but like the male from Clan Trisess. He was an oddity, a warrior-tech hybrid. I'd never met a scholar with fighting skills that could match that of the warrior class. "Let's get moving."

"Grab an empty pack," he ordered me, and we headed out of the hangar at a dead run.

"How many times did I say we needed to send a squad to Jurigon and salvage as much nutrone as we could find?" I barked, hating that we were dependent on a dome, created by the very faction of Gretolic's who had been living inside Huren, to protect us.

"The tragore device Hexxus modified to shoot long-range showed no power sources, Murrox. The Gretolic's ship not only blasted a hole in your mountain but had also mined a massive amount of nutrone in that single beam. They must have taken it all," Wynnter said as we ran through the chaos. Most of what came out of the tech's mouth was lost on me, but I didn't for a sec believe all the nutrone had been taken. The tech's device had to be malfunctioning. There had to be some left along with that weapon. "And the squad at the crashed ship hasn't been able to reach the power source in the wreckage. The only chance of keeping the dome solid is the power modules in these crafts. So, let's get to it."

Sia Jakkar had sent a squad of warriors, led by Nekko, to the crash site several suns-rises ago. We'd all hoped they would have already reached the power source in the spacecraft the human females had crash-landed in. The wreckage had proved difficult to navigate and was taking longer than expected.

We slid to a halt once we reached the old Huren training grounds where all the open-aired crafts had been parked. Two Huren techs were already there, filling their packs with power modules.
