God Awakened, page 2
He must of really pissed her off to have her changing routine. Very likely causing her to reveal more of her true colors. Refreshing as it was, she was still a nasty woman. Really whiny too. How anyone could stand to be around her, let alone work with her? Baffled him.
Her behavior only made him laugh harder and for her face to redden further. He needed to remember he was playing a character and should behave a certain way. In order to stifle the laughter, he bit his lips while trying to inhale through his nose. It was hard and took him a couple of minutes. He failed the first few times, earning him glares from where she worked on their food.
It felt good to laugh. He couldn’t remember the last time he had. How sad was that? This mission was screwing with not only his head but his emotions as well. Best it ended soon.
Shaking his head and closing his eyes, he regained his composure and pulled the character he needed into place. The lovesick puppy dog.
Following a quick apology, which surprised him, she accepted. They began conversing about nothing at all. She always surprised him with how she could talk endlessly about anything. How she managed it was a skill he doubted no one else had or wanted. It likely was the only real thing about her he had ever seen. Something she didn’t share with everyone, either.
Sitting at her little table and chairs, they ate their meal, continuing to gab throughout. The more they talked, the more relaxed she seemed. Which was strange. Sally always seemed to be wound tighter than any spring. He doubted she realized she was revealing some information, albeit sporadically and unintentionally. Causing him to wonder how she actually gained her position as a True Guard team leader. Internally shaking his head, he focused instead on finishing his meal.
They continued to chat long after lunch, taking the conversation to her sofa. He was thankful for the break in their usual hot and heavy routine. As much as he wanted answers on the mission, he could only take so much. The dealings with this woman have changed him and his desire for a partner.
Thinking about it, he had a gut feeling that tonight would be their last night together. Silently sending out a thanks for it, he was worried about the why. His instincts were telling him he might not like the outcome, causing them to delay the inevitable as long as possible.
Like always, he waited for her subtle cues he needed to be her sexual submissive. Such as she called him, when in reality he was just a human sex toy. A toy giving her all the gratification, not once ever caring about him or his needs. To her, he had none.
At first, that had hurt him. Her view of him and the role of a submissive. Now, however, he understood she was simply selfish. Only caring what she could get for herself. Might as well get this over with so she would fall asleep and he could at least get some rest before the morning. He never could fall asleep with her around. Never trusting what she would do. It was better to rest and simply pretend to sleep.
Watching her stand and crook a finger his way, he slowly rose to follow as her slimy smile spread across her face. The pleasant woman he had been chatting with was now gone, and the wicked witch was back. Time for the show, he thought.
Once in her bedroom, he moved into his usual position on the bed after he disrobed. Watching as her eyes glittered in delight. At least she found him attractive. That had allowed him to get somewhat hard for her. If only she knew the truth of what he thought of her, and everyone else, for that matter.
Telling himself off for allowing his mind to wonder. Now was not the time for that. At least not yet. He needed to pay attention. Saying all the right things, doing all the right things. This had to be believable. He doubted she suspected otherwise. He was safe, at least for now.
From the foot of the bed, she crawled, making her way toward him. Stopping when she reached for his semi-erect cock. Looking at him, she wrapped her icy fingers around him. Smiling with an evil glint in her eye, she bent, wrapping her lips around him, swallowing him whole.
Fisting the pillow, his eyes rolled to the back of his head with pleasure. This was one thing this woman could do well. All he had to do was close his eyes and pretend it was someone else, anyone else.
However, one person always came to mind when this happened. It was always her. Honor.
Her plans went down the drain. Everything she had schemed yesterday went to waste. She had received an incoming message that woke her up long before her alarm. There was a change of plans for today. She needed to get up and move pronto. Her daily duties had shifted.
Fucking Jasper and his meddling. It had to him. Which pissed her off. He could never leave well enough alone. That one is always the center of attention. When he wasn’t, he threw a tantrum.
Who else could it be? He had forever pulled crap like this. He treated her more like a tool to use than a team member. It made little sense.
Learning they assigned her to watch and monitor the live feed in the archives today pissed her off. What had she done to deserve such a treatment? Had she given herself away yesterday in her efforts to find any and all information about the Faxon twins? That couldn’t be possible. She had, however, covered her tracks, knew she had.
Being the one that everyone in the compound always went to, to find out information regarding any tech-related trace within their beloved dome. She knew there was no way any of her team could find out what she had been up to yesterday via a tech search. Her being the tech guru and all. The only other compound member with stills close to hers was Caden.
The reason of why she was chosen to observe the library live remains unclear. They recorded this feed and watched it the next day. It always comprised the same three team members. Each was a member of another True Guard team. The intent was to keep it fair. So they claimed.
How Jasper had gotten the assignment made her wonder. Removing the other team’s members, then putting her on it. Scared her. It was clear he had an issue with Caden and Harlow and always had. However, as the years passed, he became more charismatic about his feelings. Hiding them with subtle and polite jabs here and there for those higher up. Usually, the slights went right over their heads. Another thing to inflate his ego. Likely why he believed himself above them all.
Once again, she had no proof of this, only her personal beliefs. Seemed to be a trend as of late. Finding any proof against the Faxons was difficult, if not impossible. She thought she would just have to put her plan in motion based only on her instincts and the menial tidbits she had overheard. It sucked she was being excluded yet again from her team. Likely, something big was about to go down. Her team leader didn’t trust her, which made her laugh. He was right; she had picked a side, and it wasn’t his.
Placing her here meant she wouldn’t gain any knowledge of their comings and goings. Well, they were the ones who would be in for a surprise. She had a live show of Harlow’s actions today with the new plan of helping her in any way she could.
She wasted no time in getting ready for the day and her new assignment. Hoping that what she had planned would work. It needed to work. All this crap with Jasper was getting old and inflating his already to big ego. The man was a menace.
Getting to the recording booth early, she set up quickly. Going over every permeable option, just in case. Wanting to be as prepared as possible. With so many curveballs being thrown at her lately, she wanted to avoid making any mistakes.
Watching intently, she waited for Harlow to arrive. She had all the past recordings pulled and was ready to use. She planned to make her newfound friend the invisible lady. All she needed was to see the outfit she had on today and she could pull the appropriate video.
Scanning the other feeds in the compound, she looked for a view of her target. Once she appeared, her fingers flew across the touch screen, doing what she needed for her plan to work.
By the time they noticed today’s live feed was a recording, Harlow will have done whatever it is she needs to do. They would notice too, of that she was positive. She had noted there was some tampering with the feeds and cameras. Thankfully, with her arriving extra early, she had reworked the tampering. If just a little.
Hopefully granting them both more time. Allowing them to do all they needed to do. She had crossed her fingers, saying a little prayer just in case it didn’t work out.
What baffled her was how she knew today was the day that the Faxons were making their move. She didn’t know. Was it her reassignment this morning? Or her gut feelings. They were something she had always trusted. Her gut instincts had never failed her and were eerily accurate. Having kept her safe for all these years, now she would use them to keep others safe. Protect them as best she could from those in the compound who wanted to harm them.
CHAPTER 3
Becoming aware slowly, he cursed himself for falling asleep. It was not a safe thing for him to do at the moment. Sally’s suite was an unsafe place. The need to be alert at all times was a necessity here. Soon, he could truly relax and get the much-needed sleep he wanted. He hoped. Only time will tell.
Cautiously, he opened his eyes, scanning the bedroom. Not only was he alone in bed, but the lights were off and the door was closed. Exhaling, the breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. He relaxed against the headboard for a moment. Taking the time to center himself with some meditative breathing. Swinging his legs over the edge of the bed, he got out as quietly as he could; making his way to the door.
While staying away from the sensor, not wanting the door to open. He placed his ear near the door. Hearing noises on the other side, it took him a moment to realize what he was hearing. There were people on the other side having noisy sex or someone was killing the other. His bet was on the latter. When Sally finally started begging for more after her grunts, groans, and moans.
Turning up his nose in disgust, he shook with a spine-chilling shiver. The sounds of sex and pleasure with the venomous woman turned his stomach. It sounded like the lovers were enjoying themselves, at least.
Given the task of seducing the woman for information, this exposed an entirely new side of her. Suspecting that this version of her tea was hearing was the real woman coming through. He could feel the difference vibrating in the air.
This was not the same version of the woman he saw. Him having to always be submissive to her pleasure. The sounds indicated the situation had changed. She was only too happy to please her partner. Intrigued, he pressed his ear firmly to the door, hoping to hear more. Sally was a talker by nature. She would always chatter before, during, and after.
They rewarded him for his patience. When they completed she started her inquiry. Her line of questioning furthered his suspicion as to the identity of her partner. Being rewarded again when he heard Jasper snap at her. He didn’t like that she allowed someone else to touch and have her. That she belonged to him and only him. The fact Caden touched her was disgusting.
Her sharp reply was that the reason for a Faxon touching her was because he had ordered it. That he had wanted a spy on the inside with intimate knowledge of them. So he could just shove it. He had to hold back a chuckle, listening to them bicker. So his instincts that they were truly a couple were now confirmed. It was a fact that they had both received the same assignment. He suspected, however, that she hadn’t gained the information from him that Jasper wanted.
While he at least gained knowledge of a few things before they had happened and could quickly react to combat. At other times, he had to allow them to happen in order to not reveal his hand. As a result, Harlow took the brunt of their ill-treatment. Further, making him feel guilty. He would make it up to her someday.
Listening further, he learned Jasper’s full hatred of them. He had always known that, just not to the full extent. Why such hatred though and not jealousy would have to be a problem for another day. Learning the plan was to act on Harlow, and soon. Hopefully, today if Jasper had his way.
The confirmation that they were after her and not him hurt and scared him. She was not a True Guard member, thus she didn’t have the necessary training needed to defend herself.
She couldn’t handle an integration. Especially one with Jasper. He would use any and all tactics to gain the information he wanted. Not excluding torture. He would have to break his cover if need be and help his sister. There was no way he was leaving her under the guise of that monster.
So there was no telling what he would do to Harlow. He guessed they weren’t using his twin as a pawn to get to him, either. He also strongly suspected that was the true cause of Cora’s death. The information they wanted she wouldn’t share, and now they thought Harlow had it.
Which made little sense. His sister wasn’t a member of Ravens Night. A secret society he knew Jasper suspected existed. So why they were after her and not him was odd? He was the one who was a member. So too was her son. She is completely unaware. What information could she have that they wanted?
All the bread crumbs they within the society had left all led back to him. Not Cora or Harlow. Could Jasper know more than he was letting on? Or was he wanting something else and stinging him along for the ride?
He knew she had received the Ravens Night box. Their sacred box. The one that at one time contained their sacred book. A book they have been searching for, for generations. They feared it was lost forever.
Did Jasper know about the book? Was that why he was after his twin? There was a rumor of a saving grace hidden within the depths of the archive. On multiple occasions, saw people searching the library. They had found nothing to show the truth of the fairy tale. Could the fairy tale and the book be one and the same? If so, how had Jasper learned about it? That was worrisome. His sister could be in real danger.
As a nonmember, his sister did not know of the sacred book. How could she? Ignoring his train of thought, he continued to focus on the chatter in the other room. Needing to learn all he could about their plans for Harlow. The assignment and his plans just changed. As far as he could tell, they didn’t suspect him of knowing any of their nefarious plans.
When he heard them in the telltale signs of sex once again, he made for the shower room. His emotions were running high and affecting his judgment. He needed to clear his head in order to think clearly again. Jumping in under the spray, he made quick work of cleaning himself.
When he finished, he was entering the bedroom at the same time as Sally. Her shocked look gave away her otherwise intended enticement. How she could have sex with multiple men, one after the other, baffled him. How they believed they were deceiving him too also baffled him.
Not caring anymore, he greeted her with only a head nod. Turning his back to her, he dressed quickly, pulling items from his bag. Turning again when he finished, he looked at her confused expression.
He said as politely as he could.
“Morning Sally.”
Making quick work of grabbing his clothes from yesterday and shoving them into his bag.
Standing, he looked at her, saying.
“I’ve gotta go. It is necessary for me to stop by the office. I failed to let Sloane know about something before I left.”
Let her take that statement for what it is. He needed to see his sister. She was in trouble.
Continuing, he said.
“Then I need to head back home. I need to apologize to Harlow.”
Sally stood there, her mouth a gape staring after him as he maneuvered his way around her and exited her suite. He could later hear her repeated shouting as he rounded the corner. This time, he laughed loud and free. He didn’t fear how anyone watching on the cameras would receive it. He was free and one step closer to completing this mission.
Watching as Harlow went through her normal, boring routine gave her pause. Perhaps she wasn’t about to do something that caused her team leader to take a great interest in her. Why else would he assign someone to watch the camera feed live, instead of the usual recordings a day later? Had she mistaken her internal warning? It would be a first.
No, she decided she had to be right. Her insides were still uneasy. Something was definitely about to happen. Looking closely, she saw a slight tremor in the way Harlow moved, handling the books she loved so much. Harlow was nervous. Why, though? What was she planning? She wished she knew.
When she got up from her chair and made her way to the back of the library, she knew this was it. Her instincts were right. Harlow was making her move, now. Thinking on the fly, she wanted to keep her the invisible woman. It was her way of helping. Now, which pathways could she be heading toward? She knew there was a maze of halls not used anymore attached to the rear of the library.
Following her instincts, once again, she allowed her finger to fly across the touchpad, giving this woman all the protection she needed. As a failsafe, she disabled all the motion sensors in the rooms along the hallways. Those rooms contained all the old equipment and supplies needed in the olden days to survive the Wasted land.
Was that where this woman was going? If so, that was worrisome. It took True Guard members many years to learn how to navigate, let alone survive there. It wasn’t a tranquil place to be. Why else would they all be living in a specially designed state of art dome? Well, it was at the time of its creation. Now, however, it was falling apart piece by piece.
It was why they were in such a race to find a solution. Not to mention find a way of bringing the planet back to life. If that was even possible anymore. All they had to relay on were rumors and fairytales. Telling of ways in which humanity will persevere.
With her worry increasing at Harlows’ direction, her curiosity increased. Why would she need such equipment? What could be out there that she would want or need? When she had all the sensors toggled off and empty hallways playing on a loop, she made quick work of protecting the system setting. Making sure no one could tamper with it or find out what she did. It was important to protect herself as well. As best she could, anyway.
Grabbing her things, she did a quick tidying of the screening room. Double-checking everything looked as it should, she left. Thankfully, she could plan on the fly. Running the potential scenarios around in her mind, she navigated the maze of hallways.
