Fight 4 Us | Book 14 | Revenge, page 6
part #14 of Fight 4 Us Series
The sounds of vehicles speeding through the neighborhood are heard.
“I think I’ll stay right here,” says Charles to Chelsea.
Chelsea hears people yelling outside of her house and she peeks through the curtain of the front window inside her house. As Chelsea moves the curtain, a prisoner sees the curtain move and he sees Chelsea.
“Shit,” says Chelsea as she sees the prisoner look directly at her.
“What is it?” asks Charles to Chelsea.
“They saw me,” answers Chelsea.
Chase walks back into the living room and the front window that Chelsea previously looked out of is blown out by some gunfire.
Chelsea and Chase hit the floor as glass pieces of the front window fly onto the floor around them.
Charles sees Chase and Chelsea on the floor, and he hears two people trying to come into their house through the front door. The front door is well secured with several locks and a steel pole behind it so the people can’t get in.
Chase gets up from the floor and he helps Chelsea stand up.
“You two need to leave right now. Go out the back and hop the fence,” says Charles to Chase and Chelsea.
Two prisoners keep trying to come into Chelsea’s house through the front door and they keep banging on and kicking the front door.
A prisoner tries to come in through the front window, that was just shot-out, but there are thorn bushes by the window and he can’t make it into the window without being stuck by the thorns.
“I’ll hold them off and by you some time,” says Charles to Chase and Chelsea.
Chelsea looks at Charles and she realizes that there isn’t anything that she can do to bring her father with her.
Chelsea starts to get upset and she hugs Charles as he sits at the edge of his recliner chair.
Chase hears a prisoner shout, “Help us with this door! There are people inside here!”
Chase sees a shotgun laying on the ground near the broken window. He picks up the shotgun, loads two shells into the shotgun, and he aims the shotgun at a prisoner that is standing outside by the broken window.
BOOM!
Chase fires a shotgun blast into the face of the prisoner that was still trying to get into the house through the shot-out window.
BOOM!
Chase fires another shot at an approaching prisoner and the shot from the shotgun hits the prisoner in the chest.
Chelsea pulls Chase away from the window and says, “We need to go. Dad isn’t coming with us.”
BANG!
BANG!
Two shots, from the prisoners, hit the front of Chelsea’s house.
Charles calls Chase over, and Charles says to Chase, “You take care of your sister. You look out for each other now. Family comes first.”
“What are you going to do?” asks Chase to Charles.
“I’m going to buy you some time,” answers Charles.
Chelsea runs to the back of her house and she looks into her backyard through the glass sliding door and she sees that the backyard is clear and safe.
Chelsea runs back over to Charles and Chase and tells them that the backyard is clear.
“Go now before these idiots decide to move to the back of the house,” says Charles to Chelsea.
“What about our supplies?” asks Chase.
“There isn’t time, you need to go now,” answers Charles.
Chelsea says goodbye to Charles, and she pulls Chase away from Charles.
Chase fights against Chelsea’s pull and Charles shouts, “You listen to your sister! She will protect you!”
Chelsea and Chase exit the house through the back sliding glass door and Charles thinks about what to do next.
Charles stands up from his recliner chair and walks into the kitchen. He finds several bottles of alcohol in a cabinet and he places them on the counter. A bottle of tequila stands out to Charles and he removes the cork and takes a big chug of tequila.
“Ahhhh, that’s freaking good shit,” says Charles.
Charles turns on his gas stove and turns the dials all the way up to the max setting and opens the oven door.
Charles opens a kitchen drawer, and he finds a thin towel and a lighter. He places the thin towel into the tequila bottle and does the same with two other bottles of alcohol.
Charles finds a handgun in the kitchen, clicks off the safety, and fires five shots at the front of the house near the front door and the shot-out front window.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
The banging at the front door stops.
“I hope I got your fucking asses!” shouts Charles.
Charles grabs one of his alcohol bottles, lights the towel on fire that he placed inside the alcohol bottle, and throws the alcohol bottle at the front shot-out window.
CRASH!
The alcohol bottle breaks as it hits the wall near the shot-out window frame. The drapes, window frame, and exterior wall of the house go up in flames.
BANG!
A shot from a prisoner outside goes into the house and nearly hits Charles.
“You gotta do better than that!” shouts Charles.
Gas from the stove is starting to fill up the kitchen now.
Charles places the handgun into the back of his pants, puts the lighter into his pants pocket, and grabs the two remaining bottles of alcohol that he put towels in.
The fire in the front of the house near the shot-out window is starting to engulf more of the house, but Charles doesn’t seem fazed by it as he walks towards the closed front door.
Charles puts the two bottles of alcohol down on a table near the front door, listens for sounds of anyone outside of the house, and then looks through the peep hole in the front door.
Charles sees that no one is near the front door anymore, so he takes off the steel pole, unlocks the several door locks, and opens the front door.
BANG!
Charles fires a shot from his handgun, and he hits a prisoner in the leg.
The wounded prisoner screams in pain and several other prisoners see Charles standing at his front door.
Charles looks for Chase and Chelsea, but he doesn’t see them.
“I hope you got somewhere safe guys,” says Charles to himself.
Charles fires another shot from his handgun and his bullet hits a tree near a prisoner.
CLICK! CLICK!
Charles tries to fire from his handgun, but he’s out of bullets.
“I’m all out ya fucks! Come and get me!” shouts Charles.
Charles walks over to the bottles of alcohol and he lights one of the towels on fire that is sticking out of the bottle.
A group of prisoners start running towards Charles’ house. Charles shuts the front door and only locks a simple lock on the front door.
Charles grabs the last bottle of alcohol that he hasn’t lit on fire yet, and he walks over to his recliner chair with it.
Charles sits down in his recliner chair and catches his breath.
The prisoners outside of the house try to open the front door but it’s locked. They kick and kick the front door and it’s starting to break.
Charles, while holding the bottle of alcohol in one hand and the lighter in the other, listens to the sounds of the front door being kicked and it’s starting to break.
“I hope the gas line is still working for the oven,” says Charles to himself.
Charles tries to light the thin towel inside the bottle of alcohol that he’s holding, but the lighter is struggling to light.
The front door breaks and the prisoners push the front door out of the way.
The prisoners see Charles sitting in the recliner chair and the lead prisoner points his gun at Charles.
Charles smiles at the prisoners and the lead prisoner asks, “What’s so funny old man?”
“This,” answers Charles and then Charles throws the bottle of alcohol that has the now lit towel in it at him.
BOOM!
The house explodes from the gas that Charles filled the house with, and the house goes up in flames.
“You think all that happened?” I asked Chase.
Chase and Chelsea and everyone in the room look at me.
“It seems super farfetched, but I’m guessing your father caused the explosion or fire in your house and the escaped prisoners killed Dre,” I say as I look at Chase and Chelsea.
“That’s what happened, we were going back towards the house right before it exploded,” replies Chelsea.
“But the question is, what happens with you two now?” asks Phil as he stands near Whitney and Mike’s front door.
“What do you mean?” asks Whitney.
“We can’t just let them get away with what they did. They stole from us and inadvertently killed Jerri-Lynn,” answers Phil.
“Are you going to kill us?” asks Chelsea.
Phil looks at me for the answer and I look at Kiersten and Sam for the answer.
“I’m leaving that up to you Sam and Kiersten,” I say.
Sam and Kiersten look at me but don’t say anything.
“It’s a tough decision but we will honor whatever you decide. They don’t have any way of repaying what they took from you, but I’m okay with you letting them go, or with you taking revenge on them for Jerri-Lynn,” I say as I look at Sam.
“You can’t kill us,” says Chelsea.
No one says anything to Chelsea.
“You can’t let them kill us Whit,” says Chelsea as she looks at Whitney.
I look at Whitney and Whitney doesn’t say anything.
I know that Chase and Chelsea aren’t armed, so I’m not worried about them attacking us, but I’m ready just in case they try something.
Sam makes eye contact with Chase and then Chelsea.
Kiersten looks down at the floor.
“This isn’t an easy decision, and it’s one that I’ll have to live with for the rest of my life,” says Sam and then Sam steps towards Chelsea.
Chelsea looks directly into Sam’s eyes.
“Do whatever you think needs to be done,” says Chelsea to Sam.
“I am,” replies Sam with a quiet voice and Sam reaches towards her side.
I look at Whitney to see if she is reaching for her rifle and I’m ready to grab my handgun if necessary.
It feels like Sam is taking forever, but she finally reaches into her pocket and she pulls out an owl patch.
While looking at the owl patch, Sam says, “My sister was a great person and I miss her every day, but killing you because she died isn’t something she’d want.”
I let out a big exhale and Sam says to Chase and Chelsea, “I don’t want to ever see you around here again, but I’m sorry for your loss with your father and Andre.”
Sam hands the owl patch to Chelsea and Sam says, “Let’s go Kiersten.”
Sam walks away from Chase and Chelsea and Kiersten follows behind Sam as they exit Whitney’s house.
“How are we looking on the cameras?” I ask Mike.
Mike answers, “They are all gone now and have left the area.”
“We done here?” asks Phil.
“Yeah,” I answer Phil and then grab my Ghost mask off the table.
Jon says to Mike, “I’ll look into the power source for R.O.B.E.”
“That would be great, thanks,” replies Mike.
Jon exits Whitney and Mike’s house.
I walk over to Whitney and ask, “They staying with you now?”
“Yeah, I’m not sure where else they can stay,” answers Whitney.
“Thanks for the concern Ryan,” says Chelsea with some attitude.
I turn towards Chelsea and reply, “You aren’t my concern. People that I trust and are helpful are my concern. Not thieves and selfish assholes.”
“I’m sorry for stealing from you and your neighborhood, but it truly was to try and help my father. I know I should have asked for the stuff, but I thought you’d say no,” says Chase.
“It doesn’t make any difference now, but I’m sorry for your loss. Your father seemed like a good man,” I reply to Chase and then exit Whitney and Mike’s house.
Phil follows behind me and Whitney closes and locks her front door.
I walk over to Sam and Kiersten, who are standing with Drew and Brody by Brody’s electric car, and say to Sam, “I think you made the right decision, but only time will tell.”
“I think it was the only decision. I couldn’t kill either of them,” replies Sam.
“We will stand by you and your decision, and I will not order any one from CO to help them,” I say.
“Their fate is left in the hands of god now,” says Kiersten.
“Thank you for telling us they were here and for helping them,” says Sam to me.
“Of course, you’re welcome. I wanted answers and closure just like you,” I reply to Sam.
Sam, Kiersten, Drew, and Brody get into Brody’s electric car and Phil, Jon, and I get into Phil’s electric car.
We drive away from Whitney and Mike’s house and Jon asks, “Are we really going to leave all those dead bodies there?”
“Yeah, that’s their problem now,” answers Phil with a smile on his face.
Phil exits Whitney and Mike’s neighborhood, and Jon says, “I was thinking about all the dead bodies, diseases, bugs, rats, and how diseases are probably being spread around here.”
“That’s a good point, we’ll have to bring that up to William and Isiah the next time we see them,” I reply to Jon as Phil drives behind Brody’s electric car back to Citrus Oaks.
CHAPTER 6
SORRY FOR THE NOISE
It’s the next morning and I awake to the sounds of construction and people working in the neighborhood.
I look at my smartwatch, as it sits on my nightstand next to my bed, that Isiah gave me and it reads 7:42 AM.
“Who is fucking making all that noise so early this morning?” asks Lauren as she rolls over in bed.
“I don’t know, but I’ll go check it out,” I answer Lauren.
I put on some running pants, a long-sleeved running shirt, and my running shoes. I exit my bedroom, walk towards my closed front door, and I’m greeted by Milo.
Milo meows at me and I say to Milo, “I’ll be right back, and I’ll give ya some food when I get back.”
Milo meows at me and I exit my house through my front door.
The sound of saws cutting wood is heard as I stand in my driveway. I look across the street and I see Brody and Phil talking with Saba, Ayo, and several other Ghosts inside Shaun’s garage.
“What the hell is going on over here?” I ask as I walk up Shaun’s driveway.
“Sorry for the noise so early, but Isiah wanted us here first thing this morning,” answers Saba to me.
“What are you doing?” I ask as I see sketches sitting on a makeshift table inside Shaun’s garage.
“They are fortifying this place. The plans they showed me are pretty good,” says Phil to me.
“Did you know they were coming this morning?” I ask Phil.
“No, but they called me this morning and I came to meet them at the front gate,” answers Phil.
“Nicole okay with you getting calls so early?” I joke to Phil.
“Not really, but I doubt it’s going to be a common thing,” replies Phil.
“Do you want to see what we have planned?” asks Saba to me.
“Sure,” I answer Saba.
Saba shows me the sketches and goes over the plans for Citrus Oaks.
“Everything looks good, and I like the idea of hiding weapons around the neighborhood,” I say.
“These measures will help if something happens around here. The escaped prisoners are causing more problems around Tampa Bay and it’s only a matter of time until they try something here,” says Saba.
“What have you heard about them?” I ask.
“Go start at the back of the neighborhood and the West Entrance,” says Saba to a group of four Ghosts.
“Yes sir,” replies one of the Ghosts to Saba.
“I’m going to see if Drew and anyone else can help with the construction today,” says Brody.
“Good idea,” I reply to Brody and Brody jogs away from Shaun’s garage.
Phil looks at Saba and asks, “What can you tell us about the prisoners and their leader?”
Ayo looks at Phil and me and answers, “They are going to be a problem unless they leave Tampa Bay, one way or another. My brother is being held inside the prison as he knows how to operate the controls and software in the prison.”
“Why can’t he leave?” I ask Ayo.
“They won’t let him and the messed-up thing is that he shouldn’t even be there in the first place,” answers Ayo.
“What happened?” asks Phil to Ayo.
Ayo looks at Phil and answers, “He was setup. He’s in jail for murder and he didn’t kill nobody.”
“How long has he been in jail?” asks Phil.
“Freaking six years, and the crazy thing is that he was due for a hearing to reopen his case like a month before the fucking world fell apart,” answers Ayo.
“Why can’t you guys go in there and get him out?” I ask Ayo.
“Trust me I want to, but I wouldn’t make it very far. Denni and his crew have it locked down tight,” answers Ayo.
“Who is Denni?” asks Phil.
“Dennison, he took control of the prison after he killed the previous leader who took the prison from the guards that remained working in the prison,” answers Saba.
“I’m sorry to bring up my brother, we aren’t here for that,” says Ayo.
I feel for Ayo and I feel several different things after hearing the story about his brother being in jail and that he was wrongfully convicted.
“I’m sorry that you, your family, and your brother have been dealing with that craziness,” I say to Ayo.
“What can you do? The legal system failed another black man,” replies Ayo and then Ayo walks away from Shaun’s garage.
Saba looks at Phil and me and says, “We’ve been trying to figure out a way to safely get Ayo’s brother out of jail, but we haven’t been able to come up with a good plan yet.”
“If you need our help with anything, we are here to help,” I reply to Saba.
“Thank you, Ryan, we appreciate that,” says Saba and then Saba exits Shaun’s garage and walks down the sidewalk.
