“I think that’s fabulous, and I’m so pleased for you,” Willow smiled.
Autumn looked at her watch and got up hastily from the bar stool. Just in time, as a group of customers walked into the shop.
“I’d better go. It’s time for the wrap-up meeting of the masked ball committee. I guess there will be a lot to discuss.” She wasn’t particularly looking forward to facing Mrs. Hayman again, but at least she now had the high ground, with the killer caught.
“Enjoy.” Willow grimaced sympathetically as Autumn headed for the door. Then, her sister’s voice made her pause in the doorway. “Hey, I just thought. If they ask you to be on the committee next year, what will you say? Will you agree or refuse?”
Autumn hesitated. That was a good question. Her initial thought was to refuse. Enough excitement was enough. She hadn’t been of much use there, anyway. Or maybe she had, Autumn thought. Maybe she had.
She found herself grinning at her sister.
“The answer might surprise you,” she said.
With that, she and Max headed out, walking down the quiet street, in the direction of the town hall.
