Chapter 1
Van
Another day, another girl. If you ask the guys, I’m your typical playboy. Never one to settle down, never one to go back for seconds. Why should I when there are so many willing girls throwing themselves at me every night? I’m not old, and I love to live my life. Maybe I just haven’t found the right girl yet, or maybe I have, and I blew her off after round one. It’s hard to say, really. Not that I care. I don’t need an old lady right now. I’m not ready for kids, and all that family shit some of the others have. It’s good for them but not so much for me.
“You gonna take this back?” I ask Jill, one of the old ladies. I’m holding her newest addition, which I don’t mind, or being around them. In fact, I like kids, but when they start to cry, it’s time to go back to mom.
“I think you’re doing fine,” she tells me with a laugh. The littlest of the Soulless Bastards lies in my arms, squirming and making noise as I look to his mom for help. I’m not used to babies this small in my arms.
“You should get one of those,” Mask says as he nods toward the baby in my arms.
“Yeah, I don’t fuckin’ think so,” I reply, causing him to laugh.
“Why not? Looks good in your arms,” Pike chimes in.
“Everything looks good in my arms, but that doesn’t mean I want one,” I tell them.
“The little ones seem to like you,” Free adds as he nods toward the baby, who has since calmed down in my arms. All babies like me. I don’t know why. It’s like a fucking gift or some shit.
“I have a gift. Since I was little, babies just calm around me. Don’t be jealous,” I tell them, making them all laugh. Jill finishes her drink before she walks over and takes the little guy from my arms.
“Thanks for holding him.”
“Anytime, darlin’.” She smiles and walks away, heading for the other girls as the guys give me shit.
“The goddamn baby whisperer,” Mask teases. I flip him off.
“Don’t be a jealous man, Mask. When you have kids, Uncle Van is gonna be the soothin’ one.”
“Oh, for fucks sake,” he grumbles.
“You know it’s true.”
“Speakin’ of babies, don’t forget Nicole’s friend is gonna be stayin’ here for a little while.”
“Who is that?”
“Chyanne. A friend of Nicole’s needs a place to stay. She’s pregnant. Boyfriend beat her ass, and she left his ass,” Mask explains, pissing me off.
“Beat her ass while she’s pregnant?” I ask to clarify.
“Yeah, I know. It doesn’t sit well with any of us, but it is what it is.”
“Fuck that shit. It is what it is. What the hell is that, Mask? We could easily handle a little bitch like him,” I tell him.
“No shit. I know we can, but that isn’t our choice now, is it? We’re not just gonna go around beatin’ people’s asses because we can.”
“Why the fuck not? It seems like a good reason to me.”
“I agree with him on this one. Anyone who puts their hands on a pregnant woman deserves what they get,” Pike adds.
“Maybe so, but this isn’t our problem. Nicole asked if the girl could stay awhile, and that’s it. I didn’t say yes to get involved in that mess,” Mask says as he brings his bottle to his lips.
“How long she stayin’?” Free asks now.
“As long as it takes her to save up a little money. That means she might be havin’ the baby while she’s here,” Mark informs us. Just what we need. A baby here all the time. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind kids being here, but the thought of having one here at all times just doesn’t sit well with me.
“You tryin’ to mess up the pussy situation?” I ask him.
“What situation is that?”
“The one where the pussy comes to the party, and I get it. Havin’ a baby here full time is gonna fuck that up,” I tell him.
“So you’re more concerned about your cock than the girl who’s gettin’ beaten?” he asks, anger in his tone. I get it. I do, and I do care about that, but damn, what about us? We can’t just change who we are and what we do because some girl is coming to stay here.
“No. That’s not what I said, brother. A man has needs,” I remind him. He chuckles and shakes his head, running his free hand over his face.
“Your needs can still be met. She isn’t takin’ over the clubhouse, Van. For fucks sake, brother.”
“I’m just sayin’. A baby in the clubhouse is gonna change the dynamics. No smokin’, no loud music.”
“Why no music?” Pike asks, looking confused.
“The baby will be sleepin’ and shit,” I remind him.
“The walls are thick. I don’t think that’ll be an issue. You need to calm down a little,” Mask tells me.
“I’m just thinkin’ about the situation,” I tell him.
“There isn’t a situation, Van. Besides, it might be nice to have shit calm down around here a little.”
“Are you goin’ soft on us?” I ask teasingly. Mask flips me off as he shakes his head.
“Hell no. I just see the benefits of it calmin’ down a little.”
“Which are?” I ask.
“Fuck off, Van. I’m about sick of your ass today. Always questionin’ me.”
“You’re tryin’ to make a point, and I’m tryin’ to understand it,” I tell him with a smirk on my face. I know Prez hates when I fuck with him like this. Hell, that’s why I do it. I like getting a rise out of him.
“The goddamn point is fuck off, Van. She’s stayin’ here, and if you don’t like it, go get a room somewhere, you asshole,” he snaps at me. We laugh as his face turns red. That’s just the reaction I wanted from him.
“You sure get pissy easily.”
“You get annoyin’ as hell. I can see why you don’t want a woman around. You’d piss her off in a heartbeat.”
“That’s not true. Ladies love me.”
“I bet they do.”
Chapter 2
Chyanne
Nicole is helping me pack up my stuff. I never thought it would come to this. I never thought I’d be pregnant and moving into a biker clubhouse because I have nowhere else to go. This wasn’t what I planned for myself. It isn’t what I wanted out of life, yet here I am.
“Don’t cry,” Nicole says soothingly as I wipe the tears from my cheeks.
“I can’t help it. I’m an emotional mess,” I tell her truthfully.
“I know you are, but this is for the best. He can’t bother you there. He won’t be able to come anywhere near that clubhouse,” she tells me. I know she’s right. I know what she said, and after talking to Mask, I know I’ll be safe there.
“I know. I know all of this, and yet I still feel sick to my stomach,” I tell her.
“Derrick doesn’t deserve your tears, babe. He never has. He didn’t want this because if he did, he wouldn’t have put his hands on you. Look at the bruises, Chy. You’re doing the right thing,” she tells me before walking over and pulling me into a hug. I hold onto her for dear life, afraid to let go. I know this is the right thing to do, but there’s still a part of me that wishes I didn’t have to.
I know what Nicole does at the club, and it scares me. What if the guys think that’s what I’m there for? What if they try to touch me? Mask assured me no one there would bother me and that he announced my arrival. That still doesn’t make things good in my mind.
“Everything’s going to be fine,” she says once more before pulling away from me. “Let’s finish this before the guys get here,” she adds. I nod my head, and we finish packing up my boxes before stacking them near the door. I need to do this while Derrick is at work. He has no idea I’m leaving today, and hopefully, he doesn’t know until he gets home tonight. By then, I’ll be out of here.
A knock on the door pulls our attention. Derrick wouldn’t knock on his own door so I assume it’s the guys here to help us move. I walk over and pull the door open to a few guys standing there.
“We’re your official movin’ crew. Where’s your shit?” the one in front asks. The other slaps the back of his head, making me smile a little. It’s been a long time since I’ve smiled like that.
“Stop talkin’ shit and grab the damn boxes, Van.”
“What did I do?”
“Talkin’ shit,” the one behind him says before walking past him and into the apartment. He grabs a few boxes and walks back out to the waiting truck, loading them in.
“I was talkin’ shit?” The man, Van, asks me. I shake my head slowly as a smile tugs across his face. He’s a good-looking guy. In fact, all of them are, and it’s a little unnerving to have them all in my apartment at the same time.
“Oh, good. They’re here,” Nicole says as she walks out of the bedroom and drops another box on the pile.
“We’re here. This all of it?” One of the others asks.
“Yeah, that’s everything,” I tell him.
“Not much stuff here,” one comments. I shrug like I don’t already know that. I know there isn’t much, but that’s okay with me. I don’t need much to live.
“Is there room for all of it?” Nicole asks as one of the guys pulls her into his arms and hugs her.
“We got room, darlin’.” I find myself smiling and wondering what the dynamics are like at the clubhouse. How she plays into things. The guy, Pike, his cut says, kisses the top of her head, and she pulls away from him grabbing a box and passing it to him. He grins as he walks out the door and out to the waiting truck. Thankfully, our apartment is on the first floor, and they don’t have to carry it too far.
After a few minutes, all the boxes are gone, and there’s nothing of mine left in the apartment. I stand in the middle of the room, just looking around. I can’t believe it. After three years, this is how it’s ending.
Derrick wasn’t always like this. Lately, he has been, and it’s scary for me. I never know what to expect from him.
“That’s it,” Pike says, looking around the room.
“Yeah, that’s it.”
“Let’s go before he shows up, and I have to kick his ass,” the other guy, Van, says. I smile and glance over at him, but he isn’t looking my way.
With everything in the truck, I grab my purse and phone and head for the door, with everyone following me. We all step out, and I close the door on my past behind me, on a relationship I couldn’t stand any longer. I almost feel like a failure.
“Whatever you’re thinkin’, it’s not your fault.” I nod my head before looking over my shoulder at Van. His face looks serious as he stares at me.
“I know.” Do I know that? There’s a part of me who wants to blame myself for all of this. A part of me that should have known better and saw this coming, but I didn’t. And now look what this has become.
“Let’s go,” Nicole says, wrapping her arm around my shoulder and leading me toward the car. I walk along with her until she pulls the door open for me.
“We’ll be right behind you, just in case,” Van says. I nod my head, and Nicole thanks him as we climb into the car. Once we’re both in, I sigh.
“You okay? I know this is a lot on you.”
“I’m good. I’m just thankful to have you. I wouldn’t know what to do without you, Nic.”
“Good thing you’re stuck with me,” she tells me. I smile and grab her hand in mine, squeezing it.
“You’re the best friend I could ask for.”
“I’m the only friend you need. I got you, girl.”
“You always do. So, what’s this going to look like? How’s it all going to work?”
“Mask has a room set up for you. He said you can stay as long as you need to, even after the baby is born. He’s informed all the guys you’re going to be there, so they all know.”
“I don’t want to inconvenience them,” I tell her.
“You’re not. They’re used to having girls around anyway. A lot of the club girls stay there,” she assures me.
“Do you?”
“Not all the time, but I’ll stick around more now that you’re going to be there,” she answers. I sigh, thanking god for that.
“You just need to relax and keep working. Focus on the baby,” she says.
“I’m going to try. As long as Mr. Phillips doesn’t get a hair up his ass and fire me,” I tell her.
“I truly hate that man.”
“I do, too. I don’t know what his thing is with pregnant women,” I tell her.
“Me either. It’s like a weird obsession,” she laughs.
“Right? It’s like he likes to see women like that. It creeps me out,” I tell her.
“If he ever does anything wrong, you quit. We’ll find you something else. You hear me?”
“I hear you. And I was thinking of applying over at the gas station on third.”
“That sketchy place? I don’t know about that place, Chy.”
“I know the area isn’t the greatest, but it might be better than the grocery store. Besides, I have a bad feeling Derrick is going to show up at my work. I can’t afford to get fired without a backup plan.”
“I guess you’re right. Let’s just get you settled in first, and then we can go from there.”
Chapter 3
Van
We unloaded all her boxes into her room, which weren’t many. I always thought girls had a lot of shit but not her. She didn’t seem to mind that fact either. Now the girls are in there organizing it with her. My cock is hard, and I need some relief, but they’re all busy right now. I should pull one of them out of there and make her suck me off, but that would be rude. And I’m not a rude person most of the time.
“You gonna sit there all day, or you gonna get somethin’ done?” Mask asks me as I lounge in the chair.
“I moved that girl's shit. What else needs to be done today?”
“We have paperwork to get done,” he reminds me. I roll my eyes.
“Don’t we have people for that?” I tease.
“Yeah. You’re lookin’ at them. Come on,” he says before turning and walking toward the back tables, where I see a shit ton of papers spread out. At least he has them ready for us.
“What’s all this anyway?”
“Shit for the store and the club. The shop has a few things that need to be handled, too.”
“Who you have runnin’ the store?”
“Kirby is for now,” he tells me. I don’t like that motherfucker much. I don’t know why, either. I just don’t.
“What’s goin’ on with the strip club?”
“Renovations are done. We’re ready to open it up,” he reports.
“There done already? I thought it was gonna take at least another month,” I ask as we sit at the table. That’s when I saw her walk out of the back hallway. Chyanne. The girl who’s going to be living here. She’s nice to look at even pregnant. She isn’t far along, I wouldn’t think, but she does have a little belly. I think it’s cute on her.
“Stop eyein’ her like that.”
“Like what?”
“Like you’re gonna fuck her next,” Mask says.
“I’m not fuckin’ the pregnant chick. What kind of man do you think I am?” I ask him.
“The kind who would fuck the pregnant chick.”
“I’m shocked.”
“No, you’re not. Don’t tell me the thought hasn’t crossed your mind,” he says.
“So what if it has? I’m curious what sex with a pregnant chick feels like.”
“She’s off limits, Van.”
“I know that. Doesn’t mean I can’t think about her when I’m jackin’ off.” He looks up at me now, and I nearly laugh at the look on his face.
“You’re a sick man,” he says as I laugh. That catches her attention. She turns to look over at us and I nod once at her. She smiles and goes back to what she was doing when I see her wipe her eyes. I don’t like seeing women cry. It makes me feel like I need to make it better, even if I can’t.
“Shit, she’s cryin’.”
“Don’t do it, Van.” Ignoring his words, I shove out of my chair and walk over, leaning against the wall next to her.
“Why the tears?”
“I’m just emotional right now.”
“He isn’t worth the tears, darlin’. No man is. Especially one who can hurt somethin’ as precious as you,” I tell her, bringing my hand up to wipe the tear falling down her cheek. The spark I feel when I touch her isn’t one I expected to feel. I jerk my hand away like I’ve been burned and narrow my eyes at her.
