  Chapter One

“The fuck?” Savage is standing there with his arms over his chest, just glaring at me like I’m a mirage.

“You fucked me up,” he accuses.

“I’m not far behind,” Rian, his old lady adds. I look between them, both silent and starring.

“I think I like this version of you better than the other. You’re both fuckin’ quiet and shit,” I tell them with a chuckle.

  “Fuck you, brother.”

“What the hell did you do to them?” Cypress, Savage’s brother, and our newest prospect asks.

“Gave them some new shit. You like?” I smirk at him.

“Damn, Wiz. I’ve never seen her so quiet.”

“That’s what the fuck I’m sayin’!”

“That’s going to be some good shit, Wiz.”

“That your newest?” Scout asks when he walks up next to us. I nod. I’m nailing playing the chemist. Mixing and matching is something I’m good at and always have been. Drugs? Hell, I can do all sorts of things with that shit.

“Fuck this shit,” Savage mumbles but doesn’t move. It’s like he’s frozen in time, and I can’t stop the laughter that erupts out of me. The others follow, and so does Rian. Yeah, she’s fucked up chasing the high she needs.

“I’m goin’ to see my sister this weekend.” My announcement pulls everyone’s attention to me. I haven’t seen her in years, haven’t had the urge. I needed space after our parents died, and I took a ten-year vacation. I’ve kept in touch with her, but not as I should have. I’ve been an asshole, and watching Savage lose his brother and nearly lose Cy, was a wake-up call, and I knew it was time for a change. I can’t be that guy anymore. I need my family.

“Are you kiddin’ me?” Scout asks as I shake my head.

“No. Lilly has a birthday, and I’m goin’. I watched Savage spiral, brother. I don’t want to be that asshole. I can’t not see my family,” I tell them. Scout nods his head as Bebe walks in with their little one, Larkin and Plugg’s little girl next to her. That, right there, is what I want. What I think I need in life. I’m not a hardass like the others. I can be if the situation warrants it, but I used to be a family man for the most part. The club just kinda happened for me. I needed an outlet, and they provided it.

“Hey, Plugg. I was gonna see if you wanted me to take Nelly with me. She might have a good time,” I tell him. His eyes flash with something before they soften, and he shrugs.

“Ask her. You tryin’ to hide behind my kid?” he asks with a laugh.

  “Somethin’ like that.”

“I’ll go with you if Nelly doesn’t want to go alone.” I turn to find Becca, Plugg’s sister standing behind us. I didn’t think to ask her, but I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to have another reason to dip out early if I need it.

“Yeah?” I ask. She nods her head, her long hair tumbling over her shoulder. I know what she’s doing. She’s trying to hide her face from me, from all of us. When Nelly was taken, they left Becca to bleed out all over the goddamn floor, and now she’s covered in scars that embarrass her. I thought she’d run once she healed, but she didn’t. She’s still here, and I understand why. This place holds no judgment for her.

“Yeah, I don’t mind. Unless-” Plugg cuts her off.

“Unless what? Don’t start that shit!” He roars. Becca jolts but stands her ground.

  “Shut up, Plugg.”

  “Fuckin’ hell.”

“All of you shut the fuck up. Wiz, what do you have to go out right now?”

“Well, Zombie is ready,” I say, nodding toward Savage and Rian, still standing there like Night of The Living Dead extras. Hence the reason I called it Zombie.

“That’s some shit,” he whispers as he moves to stand in front of them. “You fucked up?”

“Fuck off. I can’t move.” I laugh once more when Savage lifts his hand and flips me off with the wrong finger. Everyone else joins in the laughter at this point. How can you not when your brother is this fucked up?

“I’m goin’ to take a shower. You need Zombie bagged?” I ask Scout. He nods his head.

“Yeah. Do what you can. I’ll get someone to come and help you out.” With that, I head toward the basement instead of a shower. I trail down the stairs when I hear the door close behind me. Glancing over my shoulder, I see Becca.

“Can I help? If I sit in that room any longer, I’ll go insane.”

“Yeah, come on. Gotta wear a mask and gloves,” I tell her. She follows me down the steps and into my work area. Plants grow on one side, and the other side has all my chemist shit set up.

“So, you’re a genius.” It wasn’t a question. It was a statement, and when I look up, I find her looking around at everything.

“There’s times I feel like my brain doesn’t shut down. It can be a curse,” I inform her. There are some days I wished it would shut down and take a break, but it doesn’t.

“So, you do this stuff?” she asks while I pass her a mask and a pair of gloves. She takes them and slips them on before giggling.

  “What’s funny?”

“I look like I’m going into surgery.”

“Looks good on you. Maybe I should get you down here more often,” I wink. Becca appears to be smiling under her mask, but it’s hard to tell.

  “So, what do I do?”

“I’ll weigh it out, and you just pour it into those bags. Seal them up, and that’s it.”

We set about getting things sorted, just like Scout wanted. We’re both silent until Becca speaks again.

“Do you guys make good money for this stuff?”

“We do. Costs me about three dollars to make, and we make fifteen back on the street,” I tell her.

“Are you kidding? That’s pretty damn good.”

“It’s not bad considerin’ the amount we put out.”

“Maybe I need a new job,” she giggles once more.

“Nah, you can get paid for helpin’ me out down here. You don’t need to be involved in the leg work. Hell, we don’t even do that shit. We off it to someone else at a higher price, then they unload it onto the streets. Keeps them comin’ back for more.”

“Things like this have always intrigued me.”

“Drugs?” I chuckle as I keep weighing the product.

“Not so much, drugs. The idea of selling things at higher prices, though. I know it’s the same principle for guns and even women. What I don’t understand is what makes people want to pay more for something they can get elsewhere cheaper?”

“The quality. You saw those two up there. They are fucked up, outta their minds. People will keep comin’ back for that shit,” I tell her.

“So, you’re a genius. What else can you do?”

“I can hack into just about all computer systems. Nothing is safe, and I even hacked the Government shit once. They wanted me to work for them, but I went off the grid, and now I’m ten times more careful than I’ve ever been.” That might have been one of the biggest fuckin’ mistakes of my life. I didn’t think they’d catch onto me, but they did. Now I’m even more careful.

“I’ve heard of that, I think. Like re-routing the servers or something?” she asks, glancing up at me.

“A girl after my own heart. Stick around, and I’ll show you some shit,” I tell her.

“I’ll take you up on that.” With that settled, we fall back into a comfortable silence and get back to work. I like having her down here beside me. It gives my mind a chance to calm and focus on something else, like talking to her.

  Chapter Two

I yawn as I shove off the bed and stand, stretching my back out. I’m rolling my head from side to side when I hear the first shot. I throw on my boots and grab my gun and run out the clubhouse door. I was up late getting shit ready for the deliveries today.

“What the fuck?” Scout roars when we see Becca at the shooting range at the back of our property.

“What the hell is she doin’?” I ask.

“Fuck if I know. Where the hell is Plugg?”

“He left early to drop some shit to the Dank Crew. I’ll get her,” I tell him. I stroll over toward Becca, Scout’s laughter echoing in my ears. When I’m closer, Becca fires another shot.

“You ain’t even holdin’ that straight,” I call out to her. She looks over her shoulder, and her eyes roam my body. It’s then I realize I’m in nothing but my boxer briefs and my boots. Fuck me.

  “Forget something?”

“Well, I was woken by gunshots,” I tell her. She gives me a soft smile, I don’t return, before stepping up closer to her. “You okay?”

“I’m fine. I just… I’m a little rusty with a gun, and I wanted to up my game.”

“Up your game for what? Plannin’ on shootin’ someone?” I know the past still haunts her. It still bothers her even though she tries to keep that hidden from all of us.

  “Not if I don’t have to. It’s just… since the shit with…”

“I get it. Here, I’ll show you.” Stepping up behind her, I reach around and help straighten her arms, holding my hands over hers. “You gotta breathe. Don’t tense up,” I remind her when I feel her body begin to stiffen.

“Kinda hard when your cock is jabbing me,” she giggles.

“Can’t help it when there’s a hot woman in front of me. The fucker does what he wants.” Keeping my arms around her, we raise the gun. “Now, you ready? You have the target lined up?”

Becca breathes in and out before she pulls the trigger, hitting the target. We do this a few more times until she is comfortable and has the hang of it, then I move away. Stepping back, I let her position herself, and she fires the next few shots perfectly.

“Holy shit! I did it!” She squeals and jumps up and down.

  “Never shot before?”

“I have, but I wasn’t very good, and it was a long time ago. I didn’t shoot much.”

“Keep practicin’. Just not at eight in the mornin’.” With a chuckle, I turn around to walk away when she stops me.

  “Hey, Wiz.”

  “Yeah?”

“Thanks for helping me.” I give her a salute over my shoulder and head back inside, ready to start my day now that I’m wide awake. As soon as I step through the doors, I see Plugg.

“Where the fuck are your clothes, man?”

“In my room. Your sister decided we all needed a wake-up call with her shootin’.”

“Why the hell is she shootin’?” he asks, concern etched across his face. He worries about her, and I like that about him. They seem to be pretty close.

“You know why,” I remind him. He blows out a breath and runs his hand through his hair.

“She hasn’t left the clubhouse, Wiz. Not since she’s been back.” Fuck I hadn’t realized that. I go home often and don’t usually sleep here, but late nights in the lab have me crashing in my room here at the clubhouse. I assumed she was going back to Plugg’s, but I was wrong.

“Fuck, brother. I didn’t know. She said she’d come with Nelly to my sister’s. That’ll get her out.” Hopefully, she doesn’t change her mind. She can’t hide out here forever, although I understand why she’s doing it. Fear can be a bitch.

“Yeah. Appreciate you takin’ her. I don’t know how to help her, Wiz. She’s not herself anymore, and I can see it deep down in her eyes. Becca’s lost, brother,” he confesses to me.

“Wish I knew how to help you. I don’t know shit about that stuff.” Plugg nods his head, blows out a breath, and walks away as I head into my room to find my clothes. By the time I’m dressed and have a cigarette between my lips, the prospects already have the van loaded up. I stroll toward the driver’s side and climb in, watching Savage give orders before walking over to me.

  “You ready?”

“I’m sittin’ in the goddamn van, ain’t I?” I smart off. He shakes his head and nods toward his brother.

“Cy’s ridin’ with you. Scout wants him to get some experience.”

“You don’t think he needs it?” I tease.

“Fuck you,” he growls, turning on his heel to walk away. I smirk as Cy jumps in and buckles.

“Think I’m gonna throw you out the window?” I ask, nodding toward the seatbelt. I don’t wear one in the cage, but Cy isn’t like us. In fact, he shouldn’t even be here; that’s how different he is.

  “It’s for safety, Wiz.”

“It’s for pussy’s, Cy.” He shakes his head as I laugh louder and start the van up. Pulling out of the compound, I see Plugg and Becca in the rearview mirror. Whatever they are talking about looks heated. She’s outside, so that’s a start, at least.

“What’s with that shit?” Cypress asks, noting where I’m looking.

“Fuck if I know. She doesn’t leave the clubhouse from what Plugg is sayin’.”

“Think she has PTSD from what happened?”

“Highly likely. Becca’s scared to death. You can see that much lookin’ in her eyes.”

“Heard you were looking pretty hard too,” he laughs. Asshole.

“You think I’d fuck my brother’s little sister? You think I’m that kind of sick fuck?” Cy shrugs his shoulders and grabs my cigarette from between my lips and bringing it to his.

“Don’t know, old man. Maybe you oldies like those young fresh ones. Hell look at Savage and Rian,” he adds. That’s a whole different ballgame right there. Those two were meant to be together.

“She’s too young. I can get her out of her comfort zone if Plugg can’t, but that’s about it.”

“Cock too old to handle her in the bed?”

“Why the hell are you with me, anyway?” I ask, now annoyed with all his comments and questions. I know it’s his way of coping with his brother’s death. Oden’s death still sits freshly in everyone’s minds, so I let it all slide.

“Gotta have that experience, Wiz. You know it takes a lot to pass out drugs to the dealers,” he laughs again, and this time I join him.

“You holdin’ up? Sure this is what you want?” Before the shooting, Savage would bring the guys around, but he would’ve never let them join the club. If they so much as looked at a cut, he would have lost his shit, but losing one brother is hard enough, and now he wants to keep track of Cy. His leg is too fucked up to play football anymore, and that pisses me off. He was good, they both were, but one greedy piece of shit took that all away from them. Killed their dreams along with one of the brothers. Damn hard thing to get past.

“I’m good. It’s hard, brother. Waking up each day and not having him there, seeing him. Some days I look at myself in the mirror, and I can feel his eyes staring back at me.” I don’t know how that feels, but I understand loss.

“Heard that. You two were close.”

“I’m slowly moving on. It’s hard as hell, though.”

“Yeah, I feel you. Here we are,” I announce, pulling up to the old warehouse we use to exchange the product. After opening the garage door, I back in the van and park. The other side opens, indicating they’re here too.

“You ready?” I ask Martin, the man I’m delivering to.

“Goddamn right. I got motherfuckers practically begging for your shit, Wiz. I’m telling you this is going to jump off.” His enthusiasm is why I like to work with him. He doesn’t care what it is; he will work that shit until we’re all happy.

“Then let’s do this,” I tell him. Cy walks around to the back of the van, and I pull the doors open, ready to handle this and get back home.

  Chapter Three

Judy’s husband had to work this weekend, changing the plans for the party. Instead of going over there, Scout said they could come here. I was a little unsure at first having them around the clubhouse, but he made sure it was cleaned up, and everyone was on their best behavior if they were hanging around. My sister knows what we’re like, having been around us once or twice before. It’s just strange having my blood family here where my other family congregates. The two of them don’t usually mesh, but it’s nice to see.

“Did you meet Nelly?” I ask Lilly as she watches me. She nods her head, a strange look on her face. “What is it?”

“Nothing. You just look a lot like mom.” I nod my head and glance up at my sister, squinting my eyes against the setting sun.

  “Well, we’re family.”

“Did you know I’m growing boobs?” she asks. My eyebrows shoot up as I drag my gaze back to hers.

  “You’re growin’ what?”

“Boobs. Mom said it’s a girl thing, but my best friend Jonas said it’s nasty. He said girls shouldn’t have boobs because then they have to wear bras, and no one should hide those melons.” I choke on my spit, and that’s when I hear the giggles behind me. I turn to see Becca trying her hardest not to laugh out loud.
