Red Rider (Little Ruby Red Book 2), page 28
“Ever,” she says sternly.
“We’ll work on it,” I whisper to Ryan with a wink as he chuckles to himself.
Ryan steals Toby from me, taking him over to where all the guys were crowding each other, chatting boisterously with Dante as I look at him my heart fluttering while he stands with my friends and family.
He was going to be my husband in just a few days and the biggest news of all, he was going to be a daddy and I couldn’t wait to see his face when he found out. Having been trying for a fair few months now we weren’t sure it was going to happen at all. Though I had had the operation to help, having just one ovary left felt like it had slimmed our chances tremendously. The doctor had offered to send us for fertility treatment if we had had no luck within the next year but now it looked like we would be just fine.
I had an appointment tomorrow with the doctor and wanted the scan picture to be able to give to Dante on our wedding day. My only worry was going to the appointment alone tomorrow, but I didn’t want to spoil the surprise and I didn’t want anyone else to know before him either.
“You were staring sweet thing,” Dante wraps his arms around me as he smiles at me before kissing me with his soft lips, my fingers running through his hair as I shiver at his touch.
“We should stop before we do something we shouldn’t do in front of all these people,” I whisper seductively in his ear, hearing him groan as he pulls me in closer.
“Just wait until I get you home Ruby, you won’t be able to walk straight for days when I am done with you,” he says, his voice sending shivers of lust down my spine.
“I look forward to it,” I wink at him, kissing him once more before pushing him away playfully before he starts tickling my sides, making me burst into laughter as the others watch us with soft smiles.
The rest of the day flew by as Ryan had so much fun at his party but I knew exactly what he was going to ask before we left and as if by magic he found me an hour before we were going to leave.
“RUBY, RUBY, RUBY, RUBY! Can we go on the bike?! Please! Please! Please!” He begs as his friends had mostly left to go home, leaving mainly his family, my friends and my family.
“Yes, but only if you put all your new leathers on, plus helmet as your mother would kill me if you don’t,” I nod as he fist-pumps the air and runs towards the house to grab the leathers he had been bought for his birthday, throwing them on quickly.
“Good thing I brought your bike too huh?” Colin throws my keys at me, handing my helmet over too.
“You sneaky devil,” I laugh.
“Shaun thought it would be a good idea, we thought the kid would want to ride next to someone,” he adds.
“I should have thought about that too, my brain has been so busy lately,” I chuckle.
“I’m not sure I want to watch this,” Lou murmurs walking towards us as everyone begins lining up by the fence, the dogs bouncing around them excitedly, getting as much attention as they could.
“He’ll be fine I promise,” I smile, walking out of the gate towards our bikes.
“This good?” Ryan grins at me, proud of what he was wearing.
“You look great Ryan, make sure your helmet is on properly, clip it underneath, yours is a little different to mine, plus my bike has more power, so a few things will be a little different. Ok, on you get,” I smile as Shaun and Alex head over too, showing him how everything works, the gears, the throttle and the best ways to keep it in control.
“Are you ready for your first try?” I call out as I mount my bike. He looks at me a little nervously but he revs his bike, I can see the happiness in his eyes.
“Ruby will show you what you will do a few times,” Shaun says nodding to me as I begin driving around the driveway, luckily they had a huge drive.
“I think I’ve got it,” Ryan nods as I stopped right beside him.
He looks a little wobbly at first but takes the bike around the drive slowly as I sit side-by-side with him, our engines purring together. He’s concentrating but I can see the happiness still in his eyes.
“Let’s try a little faster,” I call out as he nods making the bike go a little faster as we go round and round.
“RYAN! WATCH OUT!” Shaun and Alex bellow as he makes the bike go too fast too soon. I can almost see it in slow-mo as the bike flies off, throwing him off, I rush to get off of my bike, skidding to his side, throwing off my helmet as he lays on the ground.
“Ryan? Are you ok?” I say in a panic as the others all run towards us.
“THAT WAS SO COOL!” he bellows with a laugh as I sigh with relief, bursting into laughter as I take his helmet off, checking that he was ok.
“No, that’s it, no more bike,” Lou says.
“Oh come on Lou, it was his first time and he’s just fine, look, he’s laughing. We’ll teach him some more and make sure he knows how to keep control, but in all honesty that was pretty successful for a first go. Ruby went over sideways on her first time,” Shaun says laying a hand on her shoulder.
“I… Just… fine but just don’t do it in front of me, I don’t think my heart can take it. If he ends up hurt though, I’m blaming you guys,” she points sternly to us all before grabbing Kate who was giggling at her brother and going to go clean up.
“That was wicked, I can’t wait until I can race you guys one day,” Ryan grins up at us before Shaun holds a hand out to help him up.
“We’ll get you good enough to give Ruby a run for her money, just like we did with Toby,” Shaun grins at me.
“I am not losing my title,” I say playfully, crossing my arms.
“We’ll see,” Alex smirks.
“We’re heading off, the twins are getting grouchy and Poppy needs to chill out before bed, thanks for the invite guys, happy birthday Ryan,” Tess walks up to us with her buggy.
“Thank you for my present, bye Poppy,” Ryan smiles waving at Poppy as she giggles nervously, blushing with a wave.
“We’ll see you guys in a couple of days,” I smile hugging them goodbye.
People began to slowly leave while I helped Lou and my mum clean up.
“What are you up to tomorrow?” Mum asks me, she knew I had booked off the next couple of weeks because of the wedding, I had sorted that Luke was in charge at the club but Shaun would help too.
“I have a few things to sort out for the wedding but I could pop over for a bit tomorrow afternoon if you want?” I reply.
“Sounds great, I was going to do a nice dinner for the family seeing as Toby is home early,” she smiles.
“Ooo what are you cooking?” I grin cheekily.
“I was thinking of doing a roast dinner,” she answers.
“Oh! Yum! I haven’t had one of your roasts in ages! I will definitely be there,” I answer excitedly.
“I thought food would get you there at the very least,” she chuckles.
“You don’t have to tempt me with food mum to get me home and you know it,” I say hugging her as she holds me tightly against her.
“I know, I just miss the full house sometimes,” she sighs.
“I’m sure you can fill it with something else,” I answer.
“Like what? Grand-kids?” she smirks at me.
“Maybe,” I shrug not looking her in the eye as I continue to tidy up.
“Ruby Rider…” she says behind me.
“Am I in trouble?” I raise a brow at her.
“Are you…” she tilts my head with a finger, looking around to make sure no one was around us.
“I wanted him to be first to know… God damn it,” I mumble as she gasps, a huge grin lighting up her face as she giggles in my ear hugging me.
“Why haven’t you told him yet? Oh my god, I’m going to have another grandchild,” she tears up.
“Another… you still count him?” I whisper, eyes watering.
“Of course I do,” she nods kissing my forehead softly as my hand grazes over my tattoo for my lost little boy.
“I was going to tell Dante on our wedding day, I wanted him to be first… shit, should I tell him today? I have an appointment tomorrow, but I really wanted to make it a surprise,” I bite my lip nervously as I see all the guys hanging out near the cars.
“Keep it a surprise, I won’t tell a soul sweetheart, I promise, but let me come with you tomorrow, you shouldn’t be going to appointments alone, even if I sit in the waiting room, after everything, you shouldn’t go alone,” she says as I nod.
“That would be great, thanks mum,” I smile as she wipes away the small tears escaping my eyes.
“My baby is having another baby and getting married, when did you grow up?” she whimpers as my eyes dart to behind her as Dante and dad are heading this way. We clear our eyes turning to them with smiles.
“Everything ok my darling?” Dad asks mum, noticing her eyes were a little red.
“Fine, we were just a little teary about the wedding, I’m getting emotional over my babies having flown the nest,” mum says, she wasn’t lying in a way, she just didn’t tell the whole truth. I knew she hated lying to dad.
“Time to head home sweet thing,” Dante kisses my neck with a little nibble, smirking as he winks at me subtly.
“Yes, what time did you need me to help you with your shopping tomorrow Ruby?” Mum asks slyly.
“I should be ready to come to get you about ten if that’s ok?” I reply.
“Ooo what are you buying?” Dad asks as we walk to the car.
“Wedding present stuff,” I smile, I wasn’t lying about that either, I wanted to make a little wedding present package for Dante.
“But we did those the other week,” Dante frowns.
“I haven’t got you something yet,” I smile kissing his cheek.
“You don’t need to do that, marrying me is enough sweet thing,” he says cupping my cheek and kissing me softly.
“I still want to get you a little something,” I say, who knew that that little something would come as a small package in the months to come.
Chapter Twenty-Six
Dante hadn’t been kidding when he said I would barely be able to walk after he was done with me, most of the night we spent making love and rough fucking, I wouldn’t be surprised if our neighbours a field over could hear us.
I was sore this morning, not a bad sore, that ache when you knew you’d had a good night with the one you loved. Though I had been a little worried that I would be having a scan today and we’d had sex so much I was sure something might leak out of me when they did it. I washed thoroughly this morning praying nothing embarrassing happened, but they are doctors and nurses right… they’ve seen all this before, I shouldn’t be worrying, but I was.
“Babe! I’m going, I won’t be back until tonight as I’m staying at mum’s for the day!” I call up the stairs.
“Hold on!” Dante bellows out as I hear the water being turned off and he walks down in his naked glory, my eyes drifting over his body.
“Damn, why do you have to come down here all naked like that?” I bite my lip as he chuckles deeply.
“We could go again quickly,” he says lustfully, nipping my lip.
“I can’t I have to go,” I groan kissing him.
“But baby…” he moans as I feel him harden against me. I want to stay and let him fuck my brains out, but I cannot miss this appointment.
“I’m sorry babe, I can’t I have to go, I love you, we’ll make up for it later, promise,” I smile.
“Ok, have fun today, don’t spend too much,” he winks before kissing me passionately.
“I’ll try not too. Love you, bye babe,” I smile waving.
“Love you too,” he answers as I grab my keys and head out to the car Dante had bought for me a few months ago, he bought it for me so I didn’t have to keep borrowing other people’s cars when I needed to pick people up. It was nothing special, I just wanted a little run-around.
I was running a little late as I turned up to my parent’s house, beeping my horn twice as mum came running out the door and jumps into the car with an excited smile.
“You have no idea how hard it is to keep a huge secret like this from Toby and your father, it’s like they have a sixth sense sometimes,” mum says as I start driving to the hospital.
“Have you told them?” I ask.
“No, thank god your wedding is the day after tomorrow though, any longer and I think they would get it out of me,” she replies.
“It’s ok, I get it, I know you hate lying to them, but keep it as long as you can, but if you do let it slip, please tell them to keep their gobs shut and to pretend they knew nothing,” I say.
“Of course sweetheart,” she nods smiling, squeezing my hand softly before watching the world through the window until we get to the hospital.
“I feel sick,” I murmur as we head inside.
“It’s going to be just fine sweetheart,” she takes my hand in hers as we head inside.
“Ruby Rider, I have an appointment,” I say to the receptionist.
“I’ve signed you in, take a seat,” the lady smiles as I sit with Mum, my leg bouncing nervously.
“Calm down, deep breaths,” mum says softly as I nod, taking deep breaths to calm myself.
“Ruby Rider,” a male voice calls as I see Doctor Tomlin, the same one I had scan me from before.
“Are you coming with me?” I ask mum as I stand up nervously.
“Do you want me to?” she asks.
“Yes, I don’t want to do this on my own… just in case,” I nod, gulping from nerves as she nods taking my hand and leading me inside.
“Nice to see you again Ruby, let’s see what we’ve got shall we?” He says gesturing to the bed.
I lift my t-shirt and pull my trousers down slightly so he can get to my stomach to check that first, the cool gel hitting my stomach as mum continues to hold my hand.
“There we are, Ruby look,” the doctor says turning the monitor slightly so I can see the little bean-like shape.
“Oh my god,” I say as my eyes tear up.
“Looks like you’re going to be busy young lady,” he smiles looking at the screen moving the probe around.
“What?” I frown in confusion.
“Well… Baby A, baby B and it looks like baby C is right there,” he smiles pointing out three distinct blotches on the screen.
“Three… Triplets?” I say in shock.
“Yes, congratulations, is the father involved this time?” he asks.
“Yes,” I nod, still in shock.
“Couldn’t make it then?” he replies.
“No, I haven’t told him yet, I wanted to surprise him on our wedding day… You can’t tell my dad if you see him either,” I reply.
“I can’t tell him anyway, patient confidentiality,” he answers.
“How far along is she? Do they look healthy? No other issues?” Mum asks.
“I’d say you’re about ten weeks along from the information I had sent over when you filled in your forms online. They look healthy from what I can see, doesn’t look like there are any other issues, we’ll keep an eye on you a little closer due to your history but I think you’re going to be just fine Ruby,” he smiles at me.
“Thank you,” I smile, teary-eyed.
“Would you like photos?” he asks.
“Yes,” mum and I say in unison our eyes lit with happiness as he chuckles, printing out some of the scans.
“Triplets… I’m having triplets… That’s so crazy mum,” I whisper, my hand sliding over my stomach softly.
“Three little versions of you and Dante, the world better be ready for that,” mum giggles as I shove her playfully with a grin.
“Here you go, I’ve grabbed you a pregnancy pack too, I will get you an appointment with the antenatal clinic so we can get you an appointment with a midwife sooner rather than later,” Doctor Tomlin smiles handing over several pictures. I look at them in awe, a smile on my face as my finger grazes over them.
“Thank you,” I reply as he nods handing me a pack which I put under my arm as he shakes mum and I’s hands before we leave.
“Where are you going to hide that?” Mum asks pointing to the pack.
“In my car, for now, I will put it with the other bits once I’ve got everything from the shops, I need to grab a few things for the surprise, now do you need me to drop you home before I go shopping?” I ask.
“No, I am free to come with you, your father knows that he may have to sort the meat out for me for tonight, he can manage while I spend some time with my daughter,” she smiles as I nod driving towards the town centre, hiding the pack in the boot when we park up.
