There, a gigantuan red mass could be seen. It was over a hundred miles wide in diameter. It slowly expanded and deflated like a heart. Located on its surface was the symbol of a black tattoo. As soon as the computer component reached the red mass, it melted and dispersed into motes of light. The light was then absorbed into the red mass.

After a few moments, the red mass trembled. For the first time, it thought its first word, “Earth...”

The black and red planet suddenly shook. Mountains collapsed, and massive rifts ran along the ground. Gigantic red tentacles broke through the surface of the planet. Thousands upon thousand of smaller tentacles split off from the main tentacles before transforming into black spaceships. They looked exactly like the spaceship that brought the computer component!

The giant tentacles split apart and connected themselves to the spaceships. After this process was done, the spaceships flew forward at full speed, dragging the tentacles behind them. The tentacles were attached to the core of the planet, and therefore, were dragging the entire planet with it!

The planet was slow at first, but as time passed, it flew faster and faster. The local star slowly grew smaller, until eventually it was just a small dot. The planet’s destination was a particular solar system with eight planets.

Meanwhile, on Earth, military leaders from around the world were currently in a meeting of unprecedented importance. Ace, Vincent, Sasha, and Dragon were among them, their expressions solemn. The meeting had been going on for some time now, but the discussion mostly revolved around what ifs and potential situations. After all, there was little information about the enemy.

“If they are indeed an enemy...” a decorated general expressed his doubts.

“They destroyed our scouting ship without any contact. I’d say they are our enemy,” another general said.

“Hmm,” General Tott slowly drummed his fingers against the table. He was one of the most important figures in the military, and had been one of humanities leaders since before the tattoo arrived. When Tott hummed aloud, everybody grew silent and looked towards him.

Tott’s hand stopped as he looked around. He spoke slowly and clearly, “Whether they are an enemy or not doesn’t matter. Our response is the same. We must locate the other parties origin!”

“Their origin?” The members in the room nodded in agreement.

“Yes, we must find their planet.”

Tott continued calmly, “Once we know their location, then we can measure their response. If they are hostile, then they are enemies, if they greet us, then they might be allies. It all depends on their response. A single destroyed spaceship doesn’t mean jack shit when it comes to war!”

Tott was right. How often had small skirmishes occured in humanities past, and yet the countries involved were still allies? If war were to occur, a single destroyed spaceship wouldn’t be the spark. It would be something much greater.

Another high ranking member with sharp eyes spoke up, “I recommend we halt our exploration of the milky way galaxy for now, and send all of our scouting ships to the location of the incident. Then we can slowly spread out a net.”

The members voiced their agreement. Ace had been paying attention to the meeting, and didn’t have any concerns. He wasn’t a strategist, so he didn’t know what was best. If he were to liken himself to him something, he would be a nuclear bomb! Even so, he spoke up, “I’ll have a clone of myself board some of the ships. I’ll act as humanities leader should we make contact.”

“Good idea,” the generals didn’t find any problem with this.

And so, as a result of the meeting, the exploration of the milky way galaxy was put on hold. After five decades, only 50% of it had been explored, and it wasn’t even a full exploration. The main goal was to find civilization, and that only required brief observations of a planet’s surface. Now that they didn’t need to explore, the scouting ships demonstrated what they were good at: their tremendous speed. In a few months, they would reach the location of the incident.

  Chapter 132

In a bar on Typhen, Ace, Vincent, and Vero were drinking beer. After decades of doing missions together, Vero’s habit of drinking rubbed off on them. There was no way they could become drunk with their superhuman bodies, so they just enjoyed the flavor.

“We have a situation going on back at our homeland, so we won’t be able to do any missions for awhile,” Ace sighed heavily.

Vero drained his beer and set the glass onto the counter. After a moment of thought, he glanced at Ace and said, “Need any help?”

Ace shook his head, “I appreciate it, but we can handle it.”

They had all gone through numerous life and death battles together, but Ace still didn’t want to explain the situation fully. This matter was too important!

“Take care then,” Vero nodded slightly. If Ace said they could handle it, they could. Vero knew how strong Ace and Vincent.

They chatted casually about recent news before splitting up. As they waited for their teleport to earth to activate, Ace looked deeply at Vincent. He could sense something different about him. Something threatening.

  “What?” Vincent grinned.

A thought entered Ace’s mind and settled there. His jaw fell as he said, “You, you fused lifeforce and soulforce?”

Ace knew that Vincent had spent years experimenting on how to fuse lifeforce and soulforce together by copying klexi blood, but he never made any headway. At the time, Vincent speculated that Ace could do the same thing as well.

Vincent laughed joyfully, “Haha, yes. I did. Now I don’t fall behind you at all!”

Ace slapped Vincent’s shoulder with a hearty laugh, “Good, good!”

Ace was glad from the bottom of his heart. He knew Vincent had grown frustrated that he had been falling behind because all of humanities points were going towards Ace. Ace continued hesitantly, “What about…?”

“Alas,” Vincent shook his head, “You need to be in control of lifeforce to be able to begin the fusion process. Even though you have it, you don’t control it. Perhaps, though, you might be able to fuse your soulforce and qi.”

“Hm? Fusing soulforce and qi?” Ace didn’t even know how to begin such a process.

“I’ve actually researched this subject when I was trying to find a method for myself. For some reason the technique is much more expensive to purchase than mine,” Vincent explained.

  “How expensive?”

Vincent stared at Ace as he said nonchalantly, “500.”

  “500…?”

  “Billion.”

Ace gulped, astonished at the large number. 500 billion? That was an enormous amount of points. He shook his head, “That’s out of my reach for now.”

The teleportation process activated, cutting their conversation short.

At the same time in another part of space, a planet was traveling through the void. Deep in the planet, a red mass could be seen. Before, it never thought a word, but after absorbing the destroyed A.I., all it could do was think. Still, it didn’t hate this new experience. It found it fascinating.

“Distance to Earth is 44,000 light years away. Current traveling speed is insufficient. Must travel faster than speed of light. Spaceship acquired from tattoo possesses the ability of faster than light travel. The planet I inhabit provides significant points from owning territory. To leave the planet it is inevitable that it be destroyed. Calculating pros and cons. Processing. Determined that the solar system that earth inhabits will provide more points than my planet currently provides. Must assimilate earth.”

The red mass determined that the home it knew all its life was insufficient. To become something greater than itself, it must leave. The giant red mass trembled before burrowing through the planet. Massive rifts split through the planet as it cracked apart. Ravines hundreds of miles long ravaged the land. Gigantic red tentacles rose from the ravines, shattering the planet into pieces. The planet broke apart as a red mass escaped from its core.

Now free, the red mass split up into a million pieces. The pieces transformed into the form of a spaceship. The spaceships disappeared as they activated faster than light travel. Their destination was earth.

The spaceships collectively thought, “Calculating. At current speed, will reach earth in 3 months.”

At the same time, the scouts from earth were traveling towards the incident. One of them was heading towards the incident from earth. Boarded on the ship was Ace. This was his clone, and had 5% of his stats!

One and a half months passed. Ace was sitting cross legged on the scouting ship. Suddenly, his eyes snapped open as a beep rang. The voice of the A.I. swept through the ship, “One million objects identified.”

Ace narrowed his eyes, “One million?”

Ace stood up and walked over to the console of the ship. After a moment of thought, he said aloud, “Initiate contact. Say we come in peace.”

  “Understood.”

The A.I. sent a transmission to the one million ships. Simultaneously, the ships slowed to a stop. The A.I. of the ship informed Ace of this.

“That’s a good sign,” Ace’s eyes lit up.

The scouting ship slowed to a stop. Ace could see the other parties spaceships. There was something familiar about them, but he couldn’t recognize their design. Red lines ran through the ships like veins.

“Initiate a video call,” Ace commanded.

  “Understood.”

The video call was accepted, but only black could be seen on Ace’s screen. The other party didn’t speak, so Ace coughed awkwardly, “Hello. My name is Ace. I’m the representative of humanity.”

The other side was eerily silent. No matter how much Ace talked, they didn’t respond. After a few minutes, Ace realized something, “Perhaps they can’t speak?”

You needed vocal cords and air to speak, among other things. Not all species in the universe would have such abilities. Ace smiled as he explained about telepathy in the tattoo shop. He wasn’t worried about the other party not understanding him. He already had an ability to speak to any intelligent species in the universe. If they had spaceships, they were clearly intelligent.

A minute later, an emotionless voice sounded in Ace’s mind, “Ace.”

Ace felt like he was talking to his A.I. He responded calmly, “That’s me. What’s your name?”

  “Name?”

“What do you call yourself,” Ace rolled his eyes.

  “I have no such designation.”

Ace coughed again. Nobody told him communicating would be this difficult. He decided to move to another subject. Ace spoke slowly, “We come in peace. We don’t want to go to war if we can avoid it.”

“War is unavoidable,” The voice replied emotionlessly.

  “Huh?” Ace was startled, “Why?”

“Must grow stronger. Must evolve. No other purpose.”

Ace grew solemn. This was a unexpected. There was no negotiation? Just straight up going to war?

Ace ground his teeth against each other before saying, “Are you sure you want to do this? Humanity is strong. You might die.”

  “Strong? Good.”

A beep suddenly rang through the scouting ship. Ace’s eyes widened in surprise. They were shooting at him! He acted immediately as he fled the spaceship. Just as he exited, a beam of light pierced through the spaceship. It was destroyed immediately. It was to be expected from a scouting class spaceship.

Ace narrowed his eyes as his soul spread out. One beam of light shot towards him one after the other. As soon as it entered his soul, he moved. He twisted his body, narrowly avoiding each beam. It wasn’t because he was slow, but because he only moved as much as he needed. Why waste energy?

At the same time as he dodged, he got closer to the enemy spaceships. More and more spaceships began to target him, so it became increasingly difficult to dodge. He had to activate his qi to make things easier. When he made it halfway, the ships suddenly stopped. Confused but alert, Ace took this chance to charge forward.

The spaceships suddenly merged with one another. A red mass could be seen, wriggling and squirming in space. As more and more spaceship entered it, the red mass grew bigger. Eventually, all of the spaceships disappeared.

Sweat poured down Ace’s forehead as he frowned, “That’s as large as the moon…”

Giant red tentacles shot out of the red mass. They instantly appeared in front of Ace, leaving him barely any time to dodge. Ace now used all of his abilities to evade. At the same time, he unleashed a fist attack on the tentacle. When his fist met the tentacle, it burst apart. A moment later, another tentacle swept up the remnants of the tentacle and absorbed them.

Ace narrowed his eyes as he saw this. Before he knew it, he was completely surrounded by the tentacles. He tried to break out, but the tentacles reformed instantly. The power of the clone was too low to break out. Still, Ace’s eyes held hope. Based on the power of this creature, his main body could easily destroy it!

Small tentacles from every direction shot towards Ace, leaving him nowhere to dodge. Ace didn’t move. It was pointless. He assumed he would be destroyed, but something strange happened. Shocked, he looked down at his body. The small tentacles had entered his body. Ace felt his qi and soul slowly grow weaker.

Ace’s eyes flashed, “It’s absorbing me!!”

A taboo ability! Abilities like this were banned in the federation. The only reason someone like Vincent was fine was because he absorbed lifeforce from dead creatures. Ace’s thoughts grew slower as he grew weaker and weaker. His body grew faint and transparent. The only thing that was clear were the red tentacles spread throughout his body. Soon, Ace’s clone disappeared in its entirety.

The giant red mass suddenly shook. Its entire body trembled with glee. The red mass shrunk down. It shrunk down from the size of a moon, to an asteroid, to a building, to a car, to a person. The red mass now had the same appearance as the clone it just killed, Ace!

It looked down at its hand as a white glow rose from its body. This was actually qi!

Ace was half right when he assumed the creature absorbed him. It not could only absorb, but assimilate! The creature’s eyes flashed with intelligence as it thought, “A name…”

  Chapter 133

“No other purpose besides evolving?” A high ranking member of the military uttered in a quiet voice.

Ace had been relaying everything that his clone was experiencing in real time. When his clone was destroyed, Ace’s eyes narrowed as he said, “It absorbed my clone.”

The room fell silent. The worst case scenario had just occurred. They encountered intelligent life in the milky way that was hostile towards humanity. General Tott asked Ace, “Describe in detail the creature that you encountered.”

Ace nodded slightly, “When we first met, there were around a million spaceships. They were black and triangular in size, with red lines running over their surface. They could attack and move just like any other spaceship, but what was strange was that they combined together to form a massive lifeform the size of the moon. The lifeform was bright red in color, and could create countless tentacles.”

“Hmm,” An intelligent scientist spoke up after hearing this, “It sounds like it can transform into anything it wants? Not only that, it can retain the abilities of whatever it transforms into.”

Humanity wasn’t so ignorant about other species anymore. They had long since joined other factions in the universe to grow their power. As a result, they grew more knowledgeable about the myriad species that existed.

“Can you handle it, Ace?” Tott looked towards Ace as he asked this.

The rest of the room focused their attention on Ace. His answer would determine how they would respond. Ace thought for a moment before nodding, “Yes. If I go all out, it will die.”

The members of the room let out a sigh of relief. They had become anxious at the appearance of a hostile species, but were relieved that Ace could handle it. Their decision to give him points these past few decades was correct.

A general spoke up at this time, “Should we let our forces fight against it first?”

“Why should we do that?” A female general shook her head.

The general who spoke up looked around the room as he said, “We have been training for decades just for this eventuality. A significant number of my subordinates have been getting arrogant in recent years. Why should we hide from the rest of the universe? Aren’t we strong? They have thoughts like this. If we let them fight, it would be a good training exercise and would humble them. The universe isn’t so to be messed with! That’s what they’ll learn.”

  “Hmm…”

“I have felt the same from my subordinates as well.”
